Best game I've played in a very long time. Every element has a simple strong intelligence behind it. The puzzles were variations on familiar ones, often with no instructions, but the task was apparent to someone with a bit of experience. The game assumes you're willing to think about what your'e doing.
The HOPs made me look at the objects, and interact with them in smart ways.
There was nothing unnecessary here, and not a lot of hopping around for its own sake. It's long enough to feel I got my coupon's worth.
I bought it, and it's a keeper. I will probably let it rest long enough to forget how to do everything and then play it again using another profile. I never use sound, so can't speak to that. Show less

I really enjoyed this and it plays like a sophisticated Collectors Edition, detailed story line, intelligent mini-game challenges, and immersive experience. It does take a while to get used to the buttons and directional movements, but that doesnt take away from the enjoyment of this game.

If you can get used to the unique pace of the game play, you will definitely feel like you got MORE than your money's worth with this one!
Looking forward to more from this developer!

Cursed goes for the classic horror set-up with a selection of stark locations, creepy characters, and otherwordly beasts blocking you at every turn. There are a handful of jump scares that include bats flying at the screen and people transforming into burning skulls, that sort of thing. Surprisingly it doesn’t come off as cheesy or hokey, it actually works in the game’s favor. Just a good old fashioned romp through a ghost town, complete with childrens’ voices whispering in the shadows. The main adventure in Cursed takes you through gray and empty scenery that’s packed with obstacles. Inventory management is minimal at best, with only a few items you’ll have to worry about picking up, carrying around or combining. The game is unusually obsessed with locks that have shapes missing from the front, a somewhat tired adventure game trope, but a puzzle’s a puzzle, right? Mini-games are sprinkled throughout the map, but they don’t offer anything strange or unusual, just a light diversion to take your mind off of the ghost that just threatened to kill you. Hidden object scenes sit at the core of the Cursed experience. They crop up quite frequently and feature a limited list of items at the bottom of the screen, the majority of which are interactive. Pick up, open, adjust and fiddle with the environment to uncover or create the items on your list, then grab them to free up some space. New items appear at the list until the entire queue is exhausted. You can’t grab items that aren’t currently displayed, which feels nonsensical at times. The scenes themselves are also a bit claustrophobic, but the density leans in your favor, cutting out lengthy searches in favor of compact and clever puzzles. Cursed is a stark game on every level. Most of the scenery is sparse, the interface is a bare minimum, and your interactions with the environment stay simple throughout the game. In most titles this would count as a negative, but for Cursed it’s a huge advantage. The horror genre is all about atmosphere, and these minimalist elements set the perfect scene for a genuinely creepy time. The puzzles and mini-games suffer a bit from this lack of intricacy, but overall it’s a net positive for me. And a scary one at that!!! Show less

because BF prematurely ended my free trial. So I am sharing my opinion of the game as fairly as possible. Albert is a very handsome young man who receives a mysterious letter and suddenly takes off without much of an explanation. His fiancée is quite distraught over this and soon decides to follow after him to a mysterious land, hoping to discover what is behind the urgent letter. Something bad evidently happened to Albert after his arrival, something supernatural IMO...and there is a young girl in the story now. She seems to be a guide trying to help locate Albert and provide answers to this mystery.
I cannot provide much more than game mechanics or opinions on graphics, etc because BF took me away from the game too soon! This has happened once before and I certainly do not appreciate it, especially when I am not allowed to resume playing !!
The options provide a custom cursor if you so choose and a casual and advanced mode. The only difference seems to be in how quickly the hint and skip reload, and there is no tutorial in the advanced mode.
The HOGs are attractive with large, easy-to-find items. They are very interactive and that was a plus for me. I loved the one with the snake, The HOGs very quite creative. I was able to play only two puzzles, they were not that difficult, just a little different. There was an excellent jump map that also indicated where tasks were available, also permanently on screen were directional arrows that I'm sure will become very handy once you get further into the game.
The hand drawn graphics were very pretty with an antique look to the subtle coloring. It was very appropriate to the time period. A couple of very menacing wolves made an early appearance...they were extremely ready to tear someone apart and looked very realistic! And the bats swarming above the house were angry and mean-looking., Great art-style with the creatures ! An eye icon appeared where there was something to do or an item was hiding. I think this was probably only in the casual mode, which would be almost too helpful. In the library there were too many eyes at one time in the scene. For me it was distracting and I could hardly wait to get out of the room. Just too much of a good thing, I guess. There was nothing special about the music, it was atmospheric but not overly so. I did not feel a need to turn it down or off as we often do with some of these creepy, suspenseful games.
Well, this is where I exited...wish I could have been more helpful. I think I may enjoy this game, since I always love a good mystery. I really want to know what happened to Albert. So I just may decide to make this a purchase, hoping it was the right decision.
To be fair, I am rating this with 5 stars because it looks promising! God bless...and a Happy and Safe New Year to Everyone. Show less

I’m giving Cursed Five stars for two reasons; First – to draw attention to it and to counteract the negative reviews that I have seen which I believe were hastily submitted without significant game play. And second, because I see something really exciting in this game that I would like others to recognize as well.
In the first few minutes of playing this game I began to notice the quirks, if you will. The inconsistencies with which I believe influenced most of the negative reviews. There were a few glitches with the mechanics and how the scenes transitioned, a couple of programing “hick-ups” here and there. But after a while I notice something else; I noticed that this game was trying to be something NEW and something other than the usual game play. It was actually very refreshing to play in this new type of environment as it was presented. And, although not perfect, it is new.
Aside from the negatives, here’s what I found: Absolutely beautifully crafted scenes. The HOG’s were extremely detailed and realistic. The cut scenes were very fun to watch and the animations were spot-on! Another very important aspect that makes this game stand out is the “smartness” that went into the puzzles and the logic behind the story. There are so many games today that are ridiculously absurd, thrown together with no thought at all, just to make a buck. I just have to stop playing them because they are either stupid or make no sense at all. On the contrary this game made perfect sense at every point and you can actually see the efforts of the team who put it all together.
To the team at Jet Dogs Studios, please do not listen to the negatives coming from these reviews. You are doing the right things and are on the right path. Just keep at it and I anxiously look forward to your next game.
I do have one negative though, I enjoyed the game so much, I had wished it was longer.
Thank you! Show less

Menu items aren't where they usually are, which was interesting (all of the skip, map, queries etc are in a hidden bar ABOVE the playing screen; you have to hover around up there to get to those goodies). The storyline made sense, and things went where they logically belonged, so it wasn't a lesson in frustration, unlike so many new games nowadays, Something a bit more old-school than lately, and very welcome. Not much of a challenge, just pleasant game play. Show less
