Artifex Mundi proudly presents Enigmatis: The Shadow of Karkhala, the final chapter in the blockbuster Enigmatis trilogy.

The demonic Preacher has escaped to the remotest reaches of Tibet in pursuit of a dark secret that could give him ultimate power. He first escaped the Detective and her partner, P.I. Richard Hamilton, in Maple Creek, and then again at Ravenwood Park. This time, it is personal.

After returning to Maple Creek and uncovering new evidence about the Preacher’s plan, the two detectives set out in search of a centuries-old monastery hidden high in the mountains of Tibet, where the immortal Preacher’s lifelong search for world domination could finally meet its end.

Drawn into this ancient struggle between the forces of light and darkness, the detectives must defeat the Preacher at any cost. But will they be able to catch him before it is too late? Will they even be able to stop him if they do, now that he is more powerful than ever? What secrets will they find in the shadows of Karkhala?

TOTAL GAME PLAY: 6 HOURS
I bought + played all three games in this trilogy from start to finish. I loved all of them. Enigmatis, Mists of Ravenwood was my favorite. All three of these games make use of game play in gorgeous locations. You aren't just rambling around an interior location you've seen a million times.
There is not much fantasy in this game.... thank goodness. I have seen WAY to much fantasy this past year. You do see a winged "bird monster" (and in the 2nd edition, Mists of Ravenhood, there was an equally stupid flying monster-crow# but the bird ties in with this rather involved story and is the symbol of good, and Archangel Raphael.
There is a part in the demo where you are looking down, and through, a crashed plane. It reminded me of the PS3 game Uncharted, where Drake hung from a bus. I was blown away how well this area was drawn and the perspective was perfect. Looking over a cliff down on rushing water will make you catch your breath as you watch a hawk fly UNDER you and realize how high up you are.
GRAPHICS- Normally I can't stand hand drawn graphics and prefer the computer gen, due to clarity. But this game is like playing in an oil painting. The colors are bright, locations are gorgeous, and each new scene that came I would find myself "wowed" further. I absolutely LOVED how they kept the game gorgeous despite the fact the subject matter was dark.
HOS, MGs and alternatives: The hidden object scenes are a mix. It has my favorite "list find" with 2 steppers. I did NOT notice and of the silhouette type --which I just can’t stand.
The ALTERNATIVE TO HOS is MATCH GAME. Since the HOS are my FAVORITE part of a hidden object game, I only played it once to see what it was like. It was SO much better then match 3.... too bad it wasn't an alternative to the mini games, which I am not always so fond of.
CHARACTERS: These characters are so perfect they need their own title head. The same voice overs are back from the other games in this series and are some of the best I have ever heard. They speak from where they ARE within the scene. It made the game seem more real for me.
MY FAVORITE PARTS IN GAME: I loved this demo, so chapter 1 and --standard for me--Chapter 3. I am a major Tomb Raider fan, and chap 3 reminded me of "Lara land". You play in mountainous locations; outside, and in the woods some. By chapter 4 you are in a snowy region and the game turns darker. I don't like playing through snow and rain as it messes with the graphics for me. Even though the game is darker here, you are NOT in some “weirdly aqua world” which was a huge plus.
Chapter 5 has a great mini game. It is page 52 of the strategy guide. It is super fun. You need to prepare and powder color several shades of Jade and paint an artifact with them. Chapter 5 also had a terrific mini game across several locations using a metal detector to find objects. It was so super fun.
NO DIARY: Evidence board instead. If I EVER saw a more convoluted storyline in a game in need of a notebook, it was this one. The evidence board did not really refresh the story than it did further the game. Occasionally you find a random notebook lying around that does explain the story a pinch more.
BONUS PLAY: The final chapter was kind of a bummer for me. You play 9 areas. 6 of the 9 are revised from the final chapters of the SE. The 3 new areas are very pretty though so I am glad I got the CE. They include a cave which was a gorgeous room, a secret chapel & a narrow path.
I REALLY loved this series and will probably replay the second Enigmatis so I can play the bonus since I'd only purchased the SE for that edition and wished I'd got the CE.
There are 4 HOS in bonus play and 6 mini games. There is NO MAP in bonus and NO MORE COLLECTIBLES in bonus play.
Though you still have that useless task book...geez I can't stand those task books.
The storyline in bonus play happens in the period just before, and overlaps a pinch of when the timing of the demo starts. It has an awesome initial cut scene where I'm talking to Jenny. My character is BB #Britney#. Fang's father and Fang are in bonus too.
TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA HOW LONG BONUS IS:
Chap 1 is 11 pages, Chap 2 is 5pgs, Chap 3 is 11pgs, Chap 4 is 13pg, Chap 5 is 12p, Chap 6 is 4pgs, & bonus is 11pgs.
CE GOODIES: 9 DL music tracks 12 concept art which is only viewable, not DL. Replay 8 beautifully done cut scenes, There is an in- game strategy guide and bonus play took me about an hour.
The ending of the Standard Edition is really powerful. You see Archangel Raphael, and a fight between good and evil.
IF YOU LIKED THIS GAME: You will probably like:
Mystery Tales, Her own eyes
Whispered Secrets, Ever burning candle
Grim Tales, The Wishes
Also try Haunted Hotel, Charles Dexter Ward --an older game, maybe without a map, but a must see.
I want to thank Big Fish Games and Artifex Mundi.
This game is like playing in a gorgeous oil painting. It was perfectly done. You gave me hours of happiness and I'll be sure to play this one again!! Please give me a screen saver next CE. If you make them, I’ll keep buying them--I have just shy of 400 games!

I remember waking up in the tiny town of Maple Creek dazed and confused. The entire town had been torn to shreds by a violent tornado, and my memories were fuzzy. Slowly I began to remember why I was sent to Vermont in the first place, to investigate the disappearance of a young teenage girl. What I found was unfathomable, I had found the bodies of several missing persons dating back over 80 years! The person responsible for these atrocious murders was even harder to imagine, a Preacher! The Preacher's history is one of evil, who'll stop at nothing as he prepares to become the unholy vessel and resurrect the ancient demon, Asmodai. It sickens me that the Preacher managed to escape.
Nearly a year later, I encountered the Preacher near the Redwood Forest in Northern California. I have learned so much about Asmodai who was slain by the Archangel Raphael during the great battle. Asmodai followers, called Reapers followed him into immortal oblivion. Raphael ordered all Reapers to be killed using a ceremonial dagger, and their numbers dwindled from 12 strong to a mere 2 The Preacher is one of those Reapers, but unfortunately, once more the Preacher managed to escape!
After returning to Maple Creek, I have found new evidence about the Preacher's nefarious plans which has led myself and detective Richard Hamilton to an ancient monastery, nestled high in the mountains of Tibet. The Preacher is now the last of the Reapers and is prepared to resurrect his unholiness, Asmodai! There is no room for error now, the ceremony must not take place, the Preacher must die for the world to live!
The Shadows of Karkhala is my least favorite in the Enigmatis series, partially because of the location, but mostly because the game lost that eerie vibe that it's predecessors had. The graphics are good, but again, it's too bright and cheery for the plot. Your evidence is now kept on your smartphone, which is a vast improvement from the hotel wall right? This is the game that made the evidence board famous, where pieces of evidence, notes and clues are kept and sorted out to draw conclusions on the ongoing case. The Collector's Edition is loaded with extras like 15 hidden White Feathers, hidden Widow's Sorrow Flowers, and my favorite feature, Morphing Stains of Evil, tainted reality souls, the corrupted souls and their foul deeds! There are also several Achievement categories available, so for me, the CE was the perfect choice.
The Hidden Object Scenes are decent although they are far and few between. They are mostly Interactive Listed item finds, but there are also matching pair finds, finding items that match the pictures and some HOP's that are more like Mini Games.
The Mini Games, however are in abundance, the following are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo, as well as some noteable puzzles afterwards:
1) Place the rungs in the proper sockets to climb the pole following the pattern.
2) Move the dagger along the pathways so it passes through every hub once.
3) Click disks to create an image.
4) Narrow down evidence and locations from clues.
5) Find the landmarks listed in the notes and draw a circle around them. Each circle's radius should equal the distance given in the note using a compass.
6) Click on the tree trunk to balance the pole left or right.
7) Arrange the books using the photo as reference details, then push books in the right order.
8) Pair the symbols from the dictionary with those in the chronicle to translate it.
9) Follow directions on a map to choose the correct path.
10) Make the distiller work by rotating and connecting pipes of the same color.
11) Move all the junk blocking the water wheel by interacting with the scene, (could also be considered a HOS)
12) Guide the ball through a labyrinth maze.
13) Swap tiles so that each head matches it's surroundings.
14) Ascend the wall by finding each handhold rock as shown.
15) Take loose pieces from each wall and place them in the opposite wall X3.
16) Toggle the symbols on the buttons so that each grate bar has the same symbol, by following the connections correctly.
The Collector's Edition has replayable Pair Matching games, collectible Widow's Sorrow Flowers and White Feathers, Morphing Objects, 8 Cutscenes, 9 replayable Hidden Object Scenes, 6 replayable Puzzles, 5 Music Soundtracks, 14 Wallpapers, 12 Concept Art pictures, several Achievement categories, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter, enjoy! I don't typically write reviews that often, and never before I've finished playing a game, but this time I had to. All I can say about this game is "Wow!" Out of the couple hundred of these that I've played, this is the first time I can remember being sucked into the action right from the start. The cut scenes are brilliant, and this time you're not simply watching. You have to start solving problems immediately. That just really gets the adrenaline flowing. Not only are the visuals great, but so are the voice actors. While the story is slightly predictable, it's not enough to take away the fun factor. The games are also well thought out, not overly tough but enough to be challenging at times.
I used my free game coupon to get this game, but I really wish I'd gotten the CE now. I will be sad to see this one end. Can't wait to see what the developers come up with next after this series ends.

The Enigmatis saga continues with this absolutely wonderful game – Shadow of Karkhala. The Enigmatis series is without a doubt one of the best I have ever played with each game continuing that trend of excellence. From the harrowing beginning right through to the end of the demo this game made me want to buy so that I could find out how it all ends. As the Shadow of Karkhala begins you are once again on the trail of your slippery nemesis the Preacher. After a short break from Ravenswood where you last encountered the Preacher, you have resumed your search and this time your partner Rick is working by your side. Now with Ricks help you have picked up the trail and are on your way.
The game has all of the features that I enjoy when it comes to playing HOPA games – excellent graphics, terrific voice overs (some of the best that I have found in these types of games) and the ability to customize the way I like to play. The realistic early scenes took me on a ride I won’t soon forget.
Your tools include a map that is found as you play the game, and an evidence board that will help you as you piece together the bits and pieces that you find to lead you in your search.
The HOPS are varied and interesting with not all objects right-in-the-face obvious. I hate to admit it but I did have to use that dreaded hint button a few times in order to find the well-hidden objects. Perhaps some of them were a bit too difficult to find but that just adds to the enjoyment of playing a HOPA game. The mini-games were also excellent and though they were not over-the-top difficult they were not too easy – another thing I like about the Enigmatis series. Each Enigmatis game has that excellent gameplay factor that holds my attention and keeps my interest high.
The CE version of the game includes morphing objects, two different collectibles to find, achievements, a bonus game, the Strategy Guide, cutscenes, wallpapers, concept art, and music. IMHO, the CE offers a terrific package of extras. Anytime I find multiple sets of collectibles AND morphing objects I’m very happy.
As I have already mentioned, I love Enigmatis. This third game in the series somehow seems even better than the last game, which just proves that a game series doesn’t have to become stale. From the first game Ghosts of Maple Creek, then Mists of Ravenwood, and now Shadow of Karkhala – each game has remained excellent in gameplay and storyline. Although it is not absolutely necessary, I would recommend playing the first two games because they would give you the whole story and because they are great games to play. The Shadow of Karhala started with creating some heart-pounding scenes and continues with even more exciting moments as the game continues. Since I did play the beta and because I LOVE Enigmatis I purchased the full game and it was terrific. There were times when the game did seem to get bogged down in tasks to accomplish but it was still one of the better games in recent months. Even though I love this game, please try the demo to see if it is a game you will enjoy. Show less

Seems here lately all I have been posting have been negative reviews. Not this time. I really enjoyed this game! I can't imagine missing the previous ones in this series, if they are like this one. Going to have to look those up. Even though I am so tired of the supernatural themes of the games lately, This was an exception.
The graphics were exceptional as was the sound, especially the voice overs. Music went along with the action in the scene and wasn't irritating. Colors were bright and pretty much realistic.
Although the mini games were my downfall as usual, I have to admit the hidden objects were as much of a challenge. I did have to use the hint more than normal on them. Hidden objects were varied which kept my interest and while the mini games were well past my patience level and understanding, I was able to complete several of them. That's amazing for me.
There is an interactive map which transports and shows where there are things to be done. With a story line like this, the map was a must. There are the usual settling for difficulty, from which I chose the custom so I could set the hint and skip at the lowest setting.
The story, even though it was in the supernatural theme, was interesting. The continuity was all the way through the game and I didn't have to wonder what was going on. It's a pretty long game and sometimes the story will get lost in those extended games, but not in this case. I won't go into the story itself. Big Fish and other reviewers do a much better job than I, but I will tell you it had me from the beginning and kept my attention until the very end.
Be sure to try the demo, and I'm pretty sure you will find this to be above and beyond your average game. Show less

You detective have been hot on the trail of the demonic preacher since discovering him in Ghost of Maple Creek. Yet, he has managed to always stay one step ahead. A year later in the Mists of Ravenwood you had hoped to bring an end to the chase in the redwood forests of Northern California, but, like so many times before, the trail went cold. Two years have passed and in this edition you journey one last time to Maple Creek to discover new evidence regarding the Serial Killer Preachers whereabouts. Their you discover new clues which lead you to a monastery in the Himalayas of Tibet. The omnipotent evil demon Asmodai is your ultimate advisory, for The Preacher (last of the reapers) had intended from the beginning to allow Asmodai to enters his body and intends to finally get the power to dominate the whole world. Now it's up to you, using all of your wits and resources to once and for all STOP this menacing evil from coming to fruition. This is my all time favorite Hidden Object Adventure. It's a full throttle, must experience game that you don't want to miss. It is a big deal this time around because the immense power he is after might make it impossible for you to ever stop him if you catch him too late. You need to find "the wrath of God" to be able to stop the guy. It is an excellent story with a twist on every corner. Not only have the developers come with a great main game and a bonus chapter story, but they also have done a great job with the audio-visual presentation for the story. The scenes are hand-drawn and very detailed. The game is creepy and quite dark in a very mysterious and intriguing way. The voice-overs and the music are excellent. The game has a nice flow where all the elements come into place and turn into one big adventure, rather than separate parts. There are four modes of difficulty: Casual, Advanced, Expert, and Custom. I enjoyed every moment of this extraordinary adventure. I now what to go back and play all 3 editions from the beginning. LOL....Thank you Big Fish and Artifex Mundi for an incredible series!!! Typically, I prefer fantasy games (fairy tale types, like Dark Parables, for example), but this (somewhat) realistic series appealed to me for its logical approach (the things you do MAKE SENSE! As do the puzzles, and even the hidden object scenes). And I enjoy the Evidence Board. It's a simple thing, but fun.
Even more important, I like a good story and voice acting, and this series has both. Especially this one. I really appreciate when developers put extra effort into storytelling, voice acting, music, etc... To me, these are the most important factors in whether or not I enjoy a game. I can forgive almost any annoying game element, if the story captures my attention. This one did.

An exciting storyline
Fun and not so hard mini-games/puzzles
Great voiceovers and good interaction between both detectives
An interesting way to gather evidence by use of a cell phone, thereby letting you pretend you're 'Columbo', 'Perry Mason', or even 'Scooby-Doo' :)
Try the demo. It just might surprise you. Show less
I recommend this game!

This game has a lot more interactivity than we usually get. The other character seems to respond to my actions, as if I am talking to another person. Usually if an animated character is in the room it just ignores you. This character responded as if there were actually two of us in the room. How cool is that?

There are lots of videos: at least at the beginning. I only played the trial version. It starts out with lots of action as you try to save your and your friend from a doomed aircraft.
Definitely try this one out or buy it. Show less

The HOPs were a little more difficult than I normally like. The visual and sound were beautiful but what really drew me in was the story line. I love a mystery that has me guessing "who done it " and this filled the bill just like a good mystery on tv. This game also has an actual and decent ending unlike most games I play.
I recommend this game!
