The SE portion of the game took me 4 hours & 50 minutes
The bonus play took me, 1hr 40min
Total gameplay 6 hr. 20min
I actually used the stop watch on my cell phone whenever I was playing this. I do tend to try and do all the puzzles --although I am NOT a mini game fan, unless they are unusual. I will skip them the second I’m annoyed. I do all the HOS without hints & with penalty. I play on “custom” mode. This game has EASY/HARD mode for all the mini games, which is a HUGE plus for me on this game. So I’m telling you how I play because it may be faster for some.
The graphics and scenery, throughout the game are positively OUTSTANDING. Another thing I loved about the gameplay, you don't carry items all that long so you remember where they go. I love how it only takes a moment to look over the scene to see where an item should be placed, WITHOUT opening the secondary window. There are MORPHS to locate in each new scene, which I always see as a plus. It has many different types of hidden object scenes to cater to all of us.
Though I am not a huge fan of the standard type of mini games, this one has some great ones. The voice overs were good, the special effects didn’t wash out the scene and each new page.
IF YOU LIKED THIS GAME TRY THESE:
1. Mystery Tales Her own eyes. Gameplay is identical to this.
2. Whispered Secrets: Ever burning Candle is also very similar. It also has a burning witch.

I preferred MT #4 better because I liked the story better. I liked this story too, as I live a town over from Salem, MASS where in 1692 there were witch hangings. So I did like the basic story and learning the history of the European witches, but I’m not a huge fan of characters that fly such as witches, queens etc.
I absolutely HATE fantasy games and we have seen a lot of those in 2016.  Because this game had the paranormal flare it was refreshing to play a game where I’m mostly “grounded”.
WHAT YOU COLLECT & ITS ULTIMATE PURPOSE:
1. 36 Tarot cards can be found in the zoom windows. When they are all collected a mini game unlocks with multi-level matching and it was really fun.
2. Witches spells- pieces of white paper can be found in the main scenes and go into a book. Each one you collect has a small description of something a witch used or liked based on historical data.
3. 15 morphing Torture items- These were rather large and easy to locate and are scattered in only some scenes. There is a page devoted to them and it also gives true historical detail of how these items were used on the accused. It is scary and sad what people did to each other back then.
I preferred the collectables in Mystery Tales Her own eyes.
FAVORITE AREAS IN THIS GAME ARE - Chapter 3 starts with an adorable Jack Russell Terrier. Chap. 3 pg. 17 of WTG has a great billiards game which I’ve never seen before and it was a blast. Bummer that those MG can’t be replayed in the bonus content.

There is a Ouija board poking out from under the bed in Amelie’s room, so I think we know why her eyes a glowing. Chap. 3 pg. 19 had a mini game using spools of thread you use to color a picture. And Chap.3 also had a MG with a computer where you use UV light & password that was innovative. Chapter 4 starts with a gorgeous outdoor scene called Harbor. The area called Haunted Lake is equally beautiful. Chapter 5 starts at Madeline’s house and again I was just wowed with the graphics, lighting & scenery.
My very favorite part is in chapter 5 you get to play as a raven flying over the land in 3d. Incredible. Chapter 5 into 6 has a similar spot. In this MG, you create a broom then fly over the land via a cut scene. Chapter 6 also has a HOS that I’ve never seen before. They used 3 colored candles and you found the objects via color. This HOS was so pretty BECAUSE of these vibrant crisp graphics.
NARRATED STORYBOOK TYPE GAMES. The demo has a great one where you locate three highlighted words. There are 3 pages of this that gives more background and depth to the story of the witches. The narration is perfect.
GRAPHICS- These graphics deserve their own title. Domini pays such close attention to detail such as what you see in the background of a scene. Another huge developer here will often use what looks like concept art in the background which I just can’t stand. It feels like they don’t have enough time to complete a scene. But Domini has this nailed and these artists also use perspective right. I prefer clear crisp scenes without so many filters you can’t find an object. I also prefer more computerized over hand drawn graphics. The color here is pure and bright.
MAP & HINT- Many of the portal maps we see are just quick sketches. This map is a work of art by itself. I for one, notice these details that take more time to perfect a game. It is also a helpful portal jump, tasked map and a walkthrough guide is really not necessary for the SE.
Hint does not have portal jump but it is a helpful step by step and will redirect you to the task map if your lost.
DEVICE SPECIAL TO THIS GAME: are the “glasses” that alter the visual in a location and show our main characters spin on what happened in a location that can’t be seen, and in the past. We used them first in MT Her own eyes, and I liked using them equally here.
ABOUT BONUS PLAY: The SE stands on its own from bonus play. The bonus story is only somewhat related. There is dark magic in the city and my psychic glasses are still needed for this mission. You get to use the glasses 6 more times in bonus play. You have to stop three witches and prevent the black death from spreading.
YOU PLAY 11 BRAND NEW AREAS IN BONUS. There were 11 more mini games, which I played them all except 2. I so wish they would give us double the amount of HOS in a hidden object game. You CONTIUE collecting items at the end of the SE and in the bonus play.
THE CE BONUS CONTENT TABS INCLUDE: 14 wallpapers that save to doc file. 15 concept art with logo, 5 dl music tracks, bonus play, and a 64 page, in game walkthrough guide that includes 6 chapters and a bonus chapter, Achievements, torture chamber, tarot cards, witch book., and 13 Concept art that also has logo & saves to doc file.
Sadly, neither the match 3, nor the cut scenes can be replayed. I always re-watch the cut scenes to refresh the story.
STRATEGY GUIDE
There is an in game 64pg walkthrough guide. To give you an idea of how long the bonus play is, the Demo is 12 pages long & bonus chapter 13PGS. So the bonus play is longer than the demo. I know with the jump maps that many people don’t use the WTG any more, but I am actually one that uses it with every game.
Huge hugs to all of you at Big Fish, and Domini Games that created this great game!! I am one of your biggest fans. I don’t know WHAT I’d do if Domini included a screensaver with their games because I usually will by a CE that has one. I’d probably go broke! You make em’ and I’ll keep buying! Thank you so much!! This SE played like a CE. I say this because for me it was a long well thought out game. It had everything: a map, notes/task list, glasses to see the past, a helpful hint key and transporting. There were a lot of hidden objects of every variety or you could play match 3. You could play the mini-games either hard or easy; and the graphics were very well done.

Grab your broomsticks and fly into this wonderful new Mystery Tales game Eye of the Fire – one that I think is probably the best in the series to date. You should probably bring along your fire hoses and buckets of sand as well since you will surely need them in this adventure.

As the game begins you travel to Menzbruck to meet with Katharina who has hired you after hearing of your success with a previous case. It seems that Katharina is having constant nightmares that are very troubling. When you finally meet with Katharina she takes you to the place that she sees in her nightmares and it isn’t long before the battle of witches begins. Meet Madlena a witch bent on revenge for being burned at the stake centuries ago. Madlena wants to use Katharina who is the first person she has met in 500 years who has the strong powers of a witch. Madlena wants to possess Katharina and teach her to use those powers for evil so she can take her revenge against all living things.
The technical aspects of the game include excellent graphics, realistic characters and very good voiceovers. The game offers several modes of gameplay including a custom mode where the hint and skip times can be set in a range of 15 – 90 seconds. Your tools include an interactive map that is given to you by Katharina at the beginning of the game. You also find a notebook that keeps track of tasks as well as other information. Oh, and yes, you also have those trusty glasses that help you uncover secrets that are hidden in the past. I am not sure it qualifies as a tool but another item you find is a Witches Handbook that contains important information that every witch should know.
The HOP scenes are well-designed and so much fun that I didn’t feel the need to switch to the alternate Match 3 game that is available. The first three HOPS include an interactive list type, then a storybook scene, where you must find the objects referenced by the highlighted words, and then there was a combination silhouette/list type scene that was excellent. Normally the silhouette scenes are my least favorite but this one was terrific and just as creepy as a scene in a dungeon should be. The puzzles seemed quite easy even when I selected the hard setting. It is nice that many of the puzzles offer the choice of either an easy or hard setting but surprising that the option isn’t available on all puzzles. There is nice variety in the puzzles that includes some of my favorite types of puzzles such as sliders, switch segments of a medallion and lock pick. The lock pick puzzle offered the most challenge of the puzzles during the demo and it took some time to finally solve it; one mistake and I had to start over!
The CE version of the game has 36 collectible Tarot Cards to find, 15 morphing dungeon devices, 33 achievements to earn, a bonus chapter, strategy guide, 14 wallpapers, 13 concept artwork, 5 music tracks, a Torture Chamber, and a Witch Book. All in all this is a nice CE package that has the morphing objects I love to find.
Mystery Tales Eye of the Fire is a great little game from a developer whose games seem to get better with each new offering. Eye of the Fire has an interesting storyline that might not be a new theme but I happen to like the way it is presented. I wanted to keep playing after the demo so purchased the game immediately. There are so many little surprises along the way but I didn’t particularly care for the snake – so if you have an aversion to snakes there is one but it’s not huge and you can deal with it fairly quickly. The game is not difficult and seems fairly linear as you find items and use them rather quickly without having to do a lot of back and forth. I know many seasoned gamers will say Eye of the Fire is the same old thing but hey, it is a really good same old thing. I love HOPA games and, IMHO, this is one is very entertaining. As always, please try the demo to see if this is a game you will enjoy. Show less

you have been called in by a young woman who is having nightmares. you have the ability to see the past and that helps you solve the mysteries. after meeting her and seeing what is happening to her you soon realize that a spirit from the past had come back to gather souls. a good hint system and i played on the custom level. had to skip a good many mini games.

The quaint little town of Menzbruck holds many dark secrets, but the lid is about to blow wide open, exposing the heinous actions of its ancestors. Your client, Katharina has just awakened Madlena, one of the most powerful medieval witches ever burned at the stake! Madlena has big plans for Katharina, the first witch born in 500 years, none of them are good, and none of them are desired by poor Katharina! You're going to have to go on a witch hunt of your own because if you fail, this quaint little town will have two angry witches to deal with!
I don't know how you would ever solve these paranormal cases without your trusty psychic glasses that give you a glimpse into the past. Not only do they conveniently show you just the really important things pertaining to the case at hand (good thing, can you imagine all the really stupid things the past could show?) but they are really chic and stylin' to boot. This edition of Mystery Tales is really good, not the best in the series but definitely entertaining from beginning to end. It's a fairly lengthy game, with 6 chapters, that might have been a tad too much because at times the tasks at hand seemed to be used to merely stretch the game out with little insight of the story. The story is kind of silly and hoaky, and the game is really easy to play. In fact, the game can be played without a Strategy Guide and more than likely you'll never use the hint feature, but that's okay, it's fun and entertaining and the Collector's Edition version is jam packed full of CE bling. In the CE there are 15 Morphing Dungeon Devices, yep, you can fill the Torture Chamber with all the latest (by late I mean really old) gadgets. There's the tried and true pendulum, the typical rack, rusty pincers, a spiked collar, spiked boots, and a spiked chair, (are we sure this stuffs is medieval?) the tried and true expander, skull press, and cage, a water barrel, (or is it waterboarding) an iron mask, gallows, a wicked iron maiden and of course, no respectable dungeon would be caught dead without an executioner's hood! If that isn't enough to make Christian Grey proud, there are 36 Collectible Tarot Cards, Collectible missing pages from the Witches Spellbook, Collectible Notes (could somebody please explain why my notebook pages are scattered all around town, why are the pages loose in the first place?) and of course, achievements to earn. Both versions have a ton of Plus Sign inventory items, many of which require a puzzle to be solved.
The Hidden Object Scenes are basically the same variations repeated, but the HOP's are fairly entertaining and are located in some interesting locations. My favorite scene was inside of an Iron Maiden with a ghostly vibe. There are Interactive list finds, Silhouetted Shape finds, and Multiple finds, many are multi layered, switching between a couple of different styles and some have small puzzles to solve within the HOP's. If you don't like HOP's you can opt to play a Match 3 game instead.
The Mini Games have a wonderful feature, you can choose to play all of the mini games in either an Easy mode or or a Hard mode, why other games don't offer this feature is baffling. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo, and some notable puzzles from the main game:
1) Slide blocks to "free" a chain.
2) Find pairs of matching symbols by selecting two roses at a time, a wrong selection will cause the roses to swap positions.
3) Restore the picture so it matches the image the image on the clue found. Select the central buttons to rotate the surrounding tiles on the circles.
4) Find items that match keywords in a storybook.
5) Using trial and error, select a colored pin and a notch, wrong choices will reset the lock.
6) Swap disks to restore the picture.
7) Place the inner tokens next to their corresponding images on the outer circle. Tokens move along blue paths, select center arrows to rotate those paths.
8) Rotate square tiles, rotating one tile may affect others.
9) Arrange stones chronologically.
10) Place the heads on the correct statues based upon the pictured clue.
11) Drag rows and columns to clear matching symbols, while removing skulls last.
12) Several tile swapping pictures where swapping one tile may affect others.
13) Use a pool cube to shoot pool balls into their color coded slots.
14) Throw three darts to land on numbers that when the numbers are combined the total sum is 94.
15) Arrange like colored tubes to create a path for each corresponding witch.
16) Combine color coded arrow sections by sliding the sections together. Sections move in a straight line until it meets an obstruction.
17) Assemble the devices according to color by swapping color coded sections. You can only place sections on to smaller or same sized parts.
18) Rotate circles and use the color coded arms to grab tokens and place tokens into the correct color coded slots.
The Collector's Edition has 15 Morphing Torture Chamber Dungeon Devices, 36 Collectible Tarot Cards, Collectible pages for the Witches Spellbook, Collectible Note Pages for your dossier, 33 different Location's, 118 Zoom Zones, 23 Mini Games, 13 Hidden Object Scenes, 13 different Characters introduced, 14 Wallpapers, 13 Concept Art pictures, 5 Music Soundtracks, 33 Achievements, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter, enjoy! This was an great game. IF you are into witches and such you're going to love it. I am sitting here actually wondering why I bought it, because I am so tired of this theme I could scream, but since this is about all we've been getting for so long, I decided to give it a try. It was fun to an extent, not because of the theme, but because of the uniqueness of the game.
Graphics were well done, but the winner in this category was the sound. Voice overs were very well done. Music went along with the story for the most part and wasn't boring. It is extremely colorful and pleasant to the eyes.
I ranked the level of challenge high simply because of the ability to choose easy or difficult. Choosing the easy allowed my patience level to complete most all of the mini games. There seemed to me to be a lot of repetition in the mini games of doing about the same thing over and over, but there was enough variety to keep me satisfied. I still wish they would offer an alternative like they do for hidden objects, but alas, maybe one day. Hidden objects were also varied. Some were rather difficult and some easy. There was one in a cave I couldn't figure out how to do. After using the hint to get started I felt pretty dumb, but it threw me for a few minutes. There is an interactive map which transports and shows where things can be done. That's always a plus in my book.
I gave the story an okay rating and probably should have rated it higher. The low rating wasn't because the story was bad by any means. It was well written, laid out, and had the continuity I look for in all my games. The rating was because of the theme. Hopefully if the developers start getting these ratings they will come up with something besides witches, ghosts and things that go bump in the night. It isn't anything we haven't seen over and over.
Give the demo a try. Like I said, IF you are into witches you're going to love this game. It's nice and long, or at least seemed that way, and kept me entertained all afternoon. Show less

HOS were interactive and quite unique. Mini games/puzzles seemed more tedious than difficult. I don't like these, so I usually skip almost all of them unless I can finish them quickly and get on with the game.
Storyline was same-o...witch comes back after girl and detective stops it, but I found the game fun and easy going. No big challenge here.
Transporter map was excellent! I chose the custom option so I could eliminate the annoying tutorial and change the hint/skip refresh times as low as possible. Show less

Yes, I like story-driven games. While the play on this game was pretty good, and I loved the interactive HOPs, the story was so utterly idiotic that I had trouble staying with it. I don't recommend this game.

Super short game. The puzzles were either real easy or hard. There was one puzzle that even in easy mode I couldn't pull off. 2018
