League of Light Edge of Justice is the 3rd game in this series where we have our little scarecrow buddy – a helper that I absolutely love. We first met our little scarecrow in League of Light Wicked Harvest: a game with 74 5-star reviews. It was a game I loved and one that I have played several times since its release in 2014. Edge of Justice is a retelling of the Pied Piper of Hamelin a theme that is popular with game developers. We now revisit the city of Hamelin in a game that I love. The story is extremely well-told and leads the gamer on an interesting journey to discover the truth and to find out why a mysterious piper is bent on revenge and is now punishing the people of Hamelin. You play as a detective from the League of Light who is following clues to find information on how to restore your young scarecrow friend, Tom, to his human form and that search has led you to the famous town of Hamelin. While there you encounter a mysterious piper who is unleashing fury upon the citizens of the town. Using your detective skills will you be able to restore peace to Hamelin and put an end to the chaos. Hopefully, you will also find the time and the information to remove the curse from Tom.
The graphics are my favorite style using hand drawn artwork rather than those highly polished computer generated ones that have been used in recent games by other devs. Tom is created to perfection and I enjoy his antics as he completes several tasks for me throughout the game. It is fun to equip him with various items from my inventory that he will require to carry out some of the tasks he performs. Something many gamers will really like is that the developer gives them the option to use a helper or not. I am not always a huge fan of helpers in a game but Tom is one of those that I simply can’t resist as are Mr. Jenkins and Elf.
I happen to love the HOP scenes and puzzles in the game. The HOPS are very creative although not really new. I don’t generally care for the storybook type but there is one in the demo of the game that I find enjoyable. The HOPS vary in style as is generally the case in newer games. While the HOPS are terrific, the puzzles might seem a bit easy for some but I enjoyed them since I don’t always care for brain-numbing puzzles in games.
After playing the full game I felt the game was as good as I initially thought it would be. The game probably took me longer to complete than it might others because I play slowly and work to complete all of the puzzles. I imagine I must have spent about twelve hours in total to finish the game because there was so much to accomplish. In the end I thoroughly enjoyed the game and hated to quit when real life required my attention. If you decide to give this one a try, I hope you enjoy the game as much as I did. Happy gaming! I have to say, I really enjoyed this game! It is one of the best games I've played since Adam Wolfe. No disappointments here. From the sound to graphics, games, and story it is top notch. Much better than the previous games in the series and they were darn good too.
The graphics were really good. Colors were clear and not dark nor "cartoonish." Sound, including the music were extremely well done especially the voice overs. I love it when you get to pick if you are male or female. Effects went along with the action in the scene.
The hidden objects were well done and really varied. I like that in a game. I think this is the most varied I've seen in a game. I enjoyed the mini games which were different, some new to me, and yet I could complete the most of them. A few I skipped because of my lack of patience, but all in all they were actually fun to do. There is an interactive map which is helpful, but a lot of the time there wasn't a lot of back and forth. You picked up an object and would use it in the same scene. That's almost unheard of these days. There is the scarecrow helper. You get to chose if you want to use him or do it on your own. That's a new concept that I like. I happen to be a fan of the little guy and used him.
I really enjoyed the story. It's a straightforward story and not a witch, ghost, or the customary things we usually have been getting. There is some supernatural, but with this game I can overlook it. Others will go into the story in depth, so I won't bore you with detail. I'll just leave it that the story itself made the game for me.
Give the demo a try. I think you'll enjoy this as much as I did. Show less

I wasn't expecting such an amazing game! Buildings, rooms, outdoor environments...all have pleasing features. Many times articles and items look real. The quality of these graphics are not cartoon-like at all! Draped cloths that imitate still-life paintings, aged ceramics, depth and distance, wow, and the list goes on. How did I almost miss this?!
The HOPS are visually pleasing and puzzles are mixed and interesting. The sound quality is fantastic.
I thought the story was well-told, well-voiced and to be honest, I felt like a little kid being told a gripping story. I got that same sense of, "oh, what happens next!" all the way through, combined with a cozy feeling. This contrasted with the slight revulsion and apprehension at the appearance of the summoned, evil, Dementor-like creatures. Show less

The fun was all the better because of the charming voice of Lani Minella (who was the voice of Nancy Drew in most of the Nancy Drew games). It felt like an old friend was with me as I explored the intrigue of this medieval town. Show less

so is their anyway to contact the game developer to ask a questions...its kind of driving me bonkers
again love the game just a major plot point that was totally glossed over except at the very start of the game

Edge of Justice is my least favorite game in the series, because the gameplay is too simplistic and predictable, the storyline isn't original, and there's too much back and forth tasks. You will know exactly what items are going to be needed for just about everything you come across, and there's a ton of locks that need keys, nails that need removed, and emblems that that have somehow ended up behind brick walls, inside sewer drains and even up in the rafters. and I somehow managed to lose the owl emblems to my suitcase, even though I had just arrived at the Inn of Hamlin, the emblems managed to hide themselves in two entirely different areas of the town!? Because I own all of the other League of Light games, I purchased the Collector's Edition version of Edge of Justice, because I love searching for the Hidden Owl in each scene. I just finished the main game, (not the Bonus Chapter yet) and I will say that the game stays consistent throughout, and manages to keep the plot interesting enough. In my opinion, either version is worthy of purchasing, so here's the rundown of my review, so you can decide which version is right for you:
Once upon a time, the town of Hamelin had a rat infestation, yuck! The town magistrate offered a reward to anyone who could rid the town of their rodents. As luck would have it, a traveling flute player was able to do just that. He played a beautiful melody, and led all of the rats away from Hamelin. Ah, but when the flautist asked for his well deserved reward, the magistrate accused him of trickery, and refused payment! The flautist became angry, and once again, played a beautiful melody on his flute, only this time, all of the children of Hamelin disappeared! The townspeople began to panic, rightfully so, and called upon the League of Light, for help. (perhaps they should have called for H.E.L.P)
Does this story sound familiar? Well, that's because it's the same exact story as Fabled Legends: The Dark Piper and a lesser known game called Oddly Enough: Pied Piper! I must admit, I was a little disappointed that League of Light chose a story that is almost identical to the story in Fabled Legends. That story also takes place in Hamelin, with the same scenario, Rat infestation, traveler plays flute, rats follow him, traveler is denied payment, so traveler kidnaps all of the children (wouldn't it just be easier to make all of the rats return, perhaps return another town's rats as well?) detective is called upon to solve the case of the missing children, and of course, the flautist has revenge issues. The only difference is, I don't recall the detective from Fabled Legends, having a tiny, glowing eyed, scarecrow, as his assistant, but it has been a few years since I played that game.
You guessed it, Tom has returned, the young boy who was unfortunate enough to be the victim of a curse that turned him into a scarecrow. Since you haven't found a cure for the curse, you may as well put him to work, fetching items you need but can't reach, and going places you wouldn't dare venture, like sending him down the sewer drain! You gotta feel sorry for him, after all, he's really just kid! If you don't care for a sidekick at your disposal, you can choose to ditch Tom and leave him at home, right at the get go, which supposedly doesn't affect the plot of the game. When I played the beta version, I chose to let him hang with me, and I'm sure glad I did, there's no way I would have gone down that dirty sewer!) but when I played the Collector's Edition, I chose not to use Tom, and instead of Tom doing all the work, I simply used inventory items instead, however, poor Tom just hangs his head low to show you just how upset he is that you chose not to take him with you, and I feel terrible for disappointing my little scarecrow buddy! The Collector's Edition version has 24 Hidden Owls, and 8 Hidden Collectible Character Figurines.
The Hidden Object Scenes were just okay in my book, neither bad nor epic. There are smaller Zoom Zone HOP's throughout the game, that require you to find a handful of fragments that form together for a necessary inventory item. Some of the Mini Games offered are actually more like HOP's but are classified as puzzles. Most of the Hidden Object Scenes are Interactive, Progressive Silhouetted Shape finds, but my personal favorite was a scene that described objects in the form of a riddle, which was way more entertaining, in my opinion.
The Mini Games are fairly easy puzzles to solve, nothing new, but I found them to be fairly entertaining too. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Rotate circles to load 3 different tokens that are associated with the creatures shown.
2) Use partial clues to figure out which way the lock arrows should point.
3) Find 4 symbols hidden in each scene as shown, during a story of the Dark Pied Piper.
4) Arrange the Themis Statuettes so their hands link together.
5) Another story requiring 4 symbols to be found on each page, this time, some symbols require finding and uncovering them.
6) Click on the tokens in a specific order by trial and error.
7) Find and place misplaced items by dragging them to the correct and logical place.

Although the quality of graphics is outstanding, and the puzzles challenging, the "find something to unlock something" got extremely tedious after a while. I would have preferred several more hidden object scenes as the ones in the game were generally creatively designed and challenging. They required some deduction and knowledge. Lastly, I enjoy games that include a "helper" of some sort, but the little scarecrow person, instead of being cute, is quite creepy, mostly due to the glowing eyes--like something out of a horror movie starring an evil doll. But again, high quality graphics and an intriguing story line. Show less

I really enjoyed this League of Light game, which plays much more like an adventure than a traditional HO game. The backstory as to why he is doing so and who the real villain is will be revealed by the end of the game.
Almost every decision made by the developers of this game sat right with me, starting with not being forced to take some cute companion along if you don't want to. Any type of choice in games like this is appreciated, as they are often so streamlined. Using the various objects collected makes sense, and you'll get frequent uses out of the same things in a pretty expansive inventory. It's true that pretty much every lock has two pieces that have to be collected from the next couple screens, but it's very clear when you've finished with any given area and there's precious little backtracking.
Voice acting was quite solid, and the game looks pretty good. Cutscenes in particular are well done and on the high end of games like this. I enjoyed the twist on the story, even if the end is a bit formulaic. Overall, this is a really good example of a well done adventure game and I highly recommend it. Show less
