SHORT & SWEET SUMMARY REVIEW
Intriguing story with multiple plot lines that intersect. The challenge level varies, providing fun for everyone from beginner to expert. Production is state-of-the-art, and game design is logical.
More details on the specific elements of the game below the fold…
————————————————————
STORYLINE
Private investigator Ms. Chambers thought she was merely chasing down a dangerous criminal named Mark Taylor, but she stumbled upon the multiverse of Taleworld in the process…and discovered some shocking information about her identity and origin. Meanwhile, she must stop Taylor before he finds the hearts of the stories and breaks down the barriers between them.
EXPLORATION
Aside from the few shaped keys, I found exploration quite a bit of fun. It wasn’t always obvious how inventory items were to be used, which lent challenge to overcoming obstacles. One multi-scene area where the stories had fragmented was fantastic, as I had to first figure out how to get to the mini-scenes I could see, then explore and decide what could be done there.
HIDDEN OBJECT SCENES
HO scenes were extremely creative in presentation, although the usual Madhead storybook, matching pairs, and items hiding fragments were included. Quite a few scenes were multi-level and resembled looking for objects in real life. Among my favorite scenes:
• Find the scraps of the cell phone lock combination, then find the objects listed on the screen to decode the encrypted text messages. Finally, find the final object in the scene.
• Find the silhouettes produced by the typewriter.
• Follow the instructions to find various objects in this multi-level scene to overcome several different obstacles blocking your way to the secret passage.
PUZZLES
Puzzles ranged from simple to challenging, and two repeating puzzles were offered, but they didn’t repeat frequently enough to become monotonous. First, the two repeating puzzles:
• Night Vision - Don the goggles, then move your mouse until you find the spot where the vertical and horizontal lines intersect. Multiple levels.
• Elevator Code - Find the story code, which is a complex symbol. Then, at each step, choose the correct symbol from the choices offered. Sounds easier than it is.
Next, some of my favorite ones:
• Murray’s Grave - There are nine intricate arrows and several rotating wheels with patterns on them. Rotate the wheels so that all the arrows fit onto the pattern at the same time. More than one arrow fits on each wheel.
• A-Maze-Ment - Find your way through the darkened maze, searching out objects to help you overcome obstacles on the way.
DESIGN
The user interface is minimal and well-designed, with a long inventory panel that stretches across the bottom of the screen. The map is a bit different from what we’re used to, being a series of pictorial icons rather than a traditionally-drawn map, but it’s easy to decipher.
PRODUCTION
Stunning graphics with lifelike textures, highlights, and shadows. Animation is done well, and voiceovers are professional. There are ten varied soundtracks that are appropriate to the scenes in which they’re played.
CONCLUSION
I enjoyed this one, but I am glad I waited for the SE, and I recommend it. Happy gaming!

I've liked most of the Nevertales series IIRC, but I think this one is my favorite! Beautiful graphics, good voiceovers, a decent length, and a well fleshed out story! The downside was a few of the mini games were overly finicky with the clicking, but I still had fun. 100% recommend this game even if you never play another one in the series.

Not so easy at first , for more than one hour we do not know much what we are dealing with , then a character explains to us what really is going on, and from that point onwards the game becomes more 'comfortable' and engrossing, it is imaginative with good riddles, sometimes subtle, some of the mini-games are elaborate and I must admit that I skipped
a few but there is also others more 'friendly' , anyway they are quite varied, same for the dozen of HO scenes. Graphisms are okay , and the 10 music audios pleasant. For sure , a game filled with inventiveness and challenge.

I just finished playing Nevertales and I gotta tell you, it's 100% better than yesterday's puppet game! My little magical elevator took me from Nevertales to Nowheretales, the world of rejected books (sounds so sad doesn't it?) and I didn't even need to bring my doll with me! Mad head games has always been one of my favorite devs, and Nevertales always seem to have decent games in the series. In my opinion, the Collector's Edition version doesn't have a wow factor, so this version is perfectly fine. Here's a recap of my review to help you decide which version, if any is right for you:
While searching for escaped convict, Mark Taylor, Miss Chambers finds herself searching for answers about her own identity. Mark Taylor is one slippery dude, because he has found a portal that allows him to travel between the real world, and the fictional worlds that are the Heart and soul of books. Why is Mark Taylor systematically entering the Tale Worlds to collect the Heart of these stories? Even more importantly, why is it that Miss Chambers is always the sheriff in tale town?
Mad Head games has done it again! They have delivered yet another fantastic cutting edge game! All of their games are top notch games, Maze, Shadowplay, Adam Wolfe, Cadenza, Beyond, Dark Realm, Dawn of Hope, and Rite of Passage, need I say more? Jump inside this otherworldly Elevator, destination.....Nevertales, as your relentless pursuit continues, always one step behind the man who is responsible for stealing the items upon which our fictional stories are based. If he's successful, he'll erase all the boundaries between our world, and the Tale worlds! In Nevertales, you'll need to strap on you special Goggles to pinpoint areas of interest, normally I find these gadgets to be rather hokey and repetitive, but this particular gadget isn't that annoying, and it isn't actually used that often. In the Collector's Edition version, there are 9 Story based, 9 HOP based, and 9 Puzzle based Achievements to earn gold , silver and bronze awards, 17 Morphing Objects within the Hidden Object Scenes, and 36 Hidden "Heart of the Story" signs to discover. There are also 36 Treasure item to find in the bonus section.
The Hidden Object Scenes are varied with the usual, Interactive List finds and Silhouetted Shape finds which have the Mad Head staple feature of receiving fragments to a puzzle under each item, as well as a Morphing Object available in all 17 HOP's. However, there are also some new HOP styles, or at least twists on older styles, some of which are actually quite entertaining. (I used to love HOP's back in the day when items were blended into a scene, not just heaped on top of junkpiles) One of the HOP's I rather enjoyed was searching for missing elevator items within the books and pictures surrounding the elevator. I also liked finding items encrypted on a phone, that would complete the messages.
The Mini Games are fairly decent, some very simplistic, some a wee bit more complicated. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Change the symbols so they match the shape of their outline.
2) Press the elevator buttons to select the symbol fragments that will complete the symbol shown. (this game is repeated with each of the Tale Worlds you visit)
3) Move the lights so the color of the light matches the color of the ring around the bulb.
4) Rotate the inner and outer stones to create empty slots that match all of the displayed symbols and match them.
5) Search the locations until the horizontal and vertical lines intersect. (this game is repeated with each Tale World visit)
6) Select the fields on the larger circle so that only the green fields on the smaller circles are active.

Mad Head has pretty good games and they are one of my favorites, but this game confused me a lot.
I didn't know what was going on or why.
I got the people confused, did not know who was doing what!
Not enough information, not enough time to read the info on screen. Maybe it was me.
It is a good length, and puzzles and HOs are challenging!
Still recommend, though; bc it is Mad Head!
I recommend this game!
