I thought this game was very good. I don't understand the low ratings. I thoroughly enjoyed the zoo chapter. It was extremely compelling. The 1st part of the game goes rather quickly, but the latter 2/3 are quite long and involved. Not all actions to take are obvious, esp when played on expert mode, but Hint & skip are allowed. Puzzles range from super easy to moderately tedious, and few were a pain. The dolphin puzzle was really a pain as any deviation from the white line landed you right back to starting line.
The story is a bit confusing to follow, but has a happy ending and an unexpected twist with regard to the true villain.
The game is high quality throughout and is destined to be a classic. Show less

One of the features I love about Vermillion Watch, is that they have different areas to investigate, and you can choose which areas or chapters you want to play in whatever sequence you choose. In Order Zero, The areas you'll investigate are the Zoological Garden, Ahab's Ship and the Museum, all of them are unique, and even though they are all part of the same investigation, it's like playing three different games! I also love the London factoids they give, when the game is loading, such as the fact that the Victorian London Postal Service ran deliveries 12 times a day! The graphics are really good, and the characters are very lifelike, this is a solid game throughout, one that actually peaks after the demo, in my opinion. Here's a recap of my review to help you decide which version, if any, is right for you:
Vermillion Watch doesn't disappoint when it comes to graphics, this game has some of the best graphics I've ever seen! I knew the graphics were going to be good when the opening scene showed a close-up of the raven blinking. (reminds me of the 3 eyed raven from GOT) Far too often, the animals portrayed in these games have jilted movements, and walk without moving their limbs, as they glide across the ground. The Giant Schnauzer in this game actually moves realistically and even runs out of the room like an actual dog would at that pace. The only grief I have with this episode, is with the lame character names, based upon the Wizard of Oz. I get it, the game is all about the introduction of the American, Order Zero or OZ, team, but it seems to me, that this game loosely represents Jules Verne, the Father of Science Fiction, with Captain Nemo and Captain Ahab as characters, so why did they use characters from the Wizard of Oz?
The Red Queen is at it again, always calling the shots from behind the scenes, always one step ahead of Young Hawkes (who will soon be referred to as Old Hawkes) and Phileas Fogg! During the last investigation, there was an unusual amount of robberies, and the Vermillion Watch has been asked to accompany Charles Marlow, the Verne museum curator, as he delivers an Egyptian treasure, a statue of Ra to its unveiling party hosted by the wealthy Lord Kingsbury. Hawkes discovers that the Watch isn't the only secret organization interested in this organized crime ring, when he meets Dorothy and her undercover cohorts, from the US. In the Collector's Edition version, there are 42 Hidden Stars (and eventually Ruby Boots and Souvenir Collectibles)
The Hidden Object Scenes aren't all that creative, but I will give them kudos on the fact that they were able to stump me a few times, because some of the objects are either well hidden or cleverly blended into another object. There are Multiple finds of Objects pertaining to a Riddle, Keywords in Sentences, and Listed item finds. Also in the Collector's Edition version, most of the HOP's have a Morphing Object. I love Morphing Objects, but I hate it when the Morphs are only offered within the HOP's. One of my must have features in a game used to be Morphs, but lately I've had to give up on this feature because Morphs that are available in each scene, seem to be a thing of the past. If you love Morphs, and you love a challenge, you should try some of the earlier Dark Parables, which have non-linear Morphs that don't morph in the scene until it has been triggered by an action in a completely different scene, now that's creativity!
Some of the Mini Games are awesome, but there are far too many Target games where you click when the target is in the green zone. (these are just too easy and not really fun) Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Select and rotate the rings to uncover the correct number of each symbol, as indicated on the clue.
2) Stop the moving circle when it turns a ring green.
3) Select and drag a continuous line between all of the dots without crossing over any flowers.
4) Stop the blue lines when they are on the artifact.
5) Create your disguise by selecting the correct mask pieces based on the photo.
6) Guide the token through the maze using directional arrows. The token will glow green the closer you get.

But in the end they created a very confusing game. It's a long one, with lots of good puzzles. It's also a little TOO challenging to the point where I used the hint button way more than usual. I normally never use hints but this game had so many dead ends for me because I just didn't know what I was supposed to do next. Not everything made sense. Even the hint button tended to confuse me. But it's a beautiful game, even with the glitches. Just be ready to figure out some things for yourself without a lot of help. Show less

I did not give it 5 stars because I thought some of the puzzles were a little strange and there was one that I could not ever activate. Thought I understood the directions but it would never
operate.
The OZ characters did not play quite as large a role as I expected but were fun. Show less

I have all of the Vermillion Watch games and have really enjoyed them, until this one. It wasn't as much fun or engrossing as the others. While this seemed to be an extremely long game to me, it just wasn't as enjoyable as others.
Graphics were well done and the sound, including voice overs were well done. Music and effects went along with the action in the scene. I really didn't understand why so many scenes with voice overs had no lip action. Just a picture popped up in the corner and sat there while words were said. Some scenes did have the lip action, but not very many.
The level of challenge got me. Hidden objects were well done and varied from lists to silhouettes and a couple completely different takes on them, like matching statues with an outline. However, those mini games were way... WAY past my abilities, understanding and patience level. Whoever dreamed these things up deserves an award for making this a bad game. I completed some, but not very many. Still say they need another way to play those things like they do for hidden objects, like a match 3. Most of them I couldn't understand what to do and then the tediousness of doing the same puzzle three times to win was just a bit much. Some didn't have any instructions whatsoever, or if they did I missed them. My biggest disappointment was the minis and I was so glad I used the custom setting for quick charge of the hint and skip buttons. If you are one of those who like involved, time consuming puzzles this game is for you! The map was extremely necessary to get about, because there is a lot of back and forth in this this game. I used my hint button more in this game to figure out what to do and where to go than most.
The story, while convoluted at times was okay. One thing I like about this series is the different places you get to go. This was no exception. While I did have difficulties figuring out where to go in these different worlds, the trusty map and hint button saved the day. Others will go into the story in depth, but I'll just say I will never watch the Wizard of Oz in the same light again.
Again, if you like mini games you are going to love this game if for no other reason. Play the demo and see if this is to your liking. Show less

I found it very difficult to determine what should be done to continue...and it took the fun away and replaced it with frustration.
