As a senior citizen I prefer my games relaxing, and don't wish to rely on Hints or Strategy guides to get through them. I haven't played other games by this developer, but will happily buy this one when in comes on sale, or I have a spare PCC to use. Show less

I have mixed feelings about this game. It has some great elements such as interactive HOs and a nice collection of mini-games. The graphics were nice and there was an ease to the game flow.
BUT...
The kiwi bird helper was creepy and annoying and the neon green emitting from the demonic puppets/dolls was too intense with an almost B movie vibe to them similar to those horrible Halloween movies.

The kiwi bird helper was creepy and annoying and the neon green emitting from the demonic puppets/dolls was too intense with an almost B movie vibe to them similar to those horrible Halloween movies. On occasion there were these brief high end screeching noises in the soundtrack, due to some kind of glitch, that assaulted my ears a few times.
In summary this game had so much potential but fell short in many ways.

I’ve struggled two days to write this review and it seems like they each become more difficult when so many of the games seem to blend together with each one being almost the same as the last HOPA game I played. So here we are now with another game in an endless cookie cutter series with game number six in the Spirit of Revenge series – Unrecognized Master. When I started to play the game I had to go back and check to see if this game was created by the original developer because it definitely didn't feel anywhere close to the creativity and excellence of the first game – Cursed Castle.

Unrecognized Master begins with the now obligatory scene of blood and murder but despite that I pushed myself to continue playing so that I could at least give the game a fair shot.
One of the first things that frustrated me about this game is that when I selected the custom setting there were very few options available. There were sliders available to set the hint and skip times but the custom option was really a joke. If developers are going to add a Custom setting, why not make it worthwhile for the gamer and offer a variety of options such as choosing map options or, real hint and skip values.
I don’t feel as adamant as other gamers about helpers but I didn’t care for the mechanical Kiwi. Being a “Kiwi” myself somehow it seemed rather wrong to modify this naturally flightless bird so that it could perform the various tasks that I couldn’t possibly handle on my own with a little creativity on my part.
The storyline for Unrecognized Master is basically a rehash of storylines that have been used over and over and over again here at BFG and the gameplay has nothing new or interesting – just a change of characters, and this time with neon green eyes to indicate they have been possessed by some poor apprentice who had been slain by his benefactor 200 years previously.
The only things that really kept me moving forward in the game (one that I haven’t finished by the way because the storyline is simply too boring) are the HOP scenes that I do enjoy and the entertaining puzzles or mini-games. The HOPS were well-designed and even though most of them are list type (my favorite) the items are not too difficult to find and the scenes are not just dark and web-riddled. The puzzles are creative and some did seem like they were new so I found those quite enjoyable. I am sure there are more to come and another day when I have nothing better to do I might go back and actually finish the game.
The CE version of the game really is nothing more than what we would expect but at least there are morphing objects as well as the collectibles to find. The other extras are the standard fluff and we all know what to expect so I am not going to waste my time letting you know at this point what is included.
In closing I really was not overly impressed with the game because I know this developer can do much better. I suggest they go back to the drawing board and perhaps put an end to this worn out series and come up with something new. I know there are many new gamers here at BFG and you will probably appreciate Unrecognized Master far more than me. It is not a terrible game and it does have some good things to offer. If you are new, you might love this game but for me it is simply a rehash of another cookie cutter game. As always I urge you to try the demo since we all like different things in games. Happy gaming! Show less

Finally, I pulled myself up by my bootstraps and said, 'this is it, this is the one, it is time.' Ho hum, there's 3 hours I will never get back. It was just boring.......really boring. And the ending really (sucked) 'scuse my French. I can paste together the issue, but really, you need to flesh out your stories man. The is just sloppy storytelling imo.
And Brenda Gale? Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't this the 3rd or 4th series this voice actress is in? Not that I mind her, she is better than others. But if all the developers are using the same talent, maybe there is a reason that all the games are starting to look the same..................

Wow! This game is sooo boring and so cheesy, that I just can't take it seriously. It's not a realistic game, it's not a fantasy game, it's not a scary game, it's just another game thrown together with bits and pieces of other game elements. I really can't recommend this game to anyone for any reason I can think of, there are so many better games available I don't want to waste your time to even recommend trying it for yourself. But if you must, here's a recap of my review to help you decide which version if either is right for you:
Brenda Gale has another angry ghost to appease, but this time she's not alone. After rummaging through her new client's home thoroughly, she finds spare parts, and of course instructions, to assemble the latest and greatest Kiwi Bird mechanical helper. At first this amazing bird can only open jars, but after a few amazing upgrade adjustments, he can fly! This is amazing considering a Kiwi Bird is a FLIGHTLESS bird native to New Zealand! (fun fact: the kiwifruit wasn't called kiwi until around 1970, as a marketing strategy. Before that, kiwi was called gooseberry and was native to China, but adored by New Zealanders.) I'm tempted to just add more amazing fun facts about the Kiwi and the fruit, because this Spirit of Revenge is anything but amazing!
In this unamazing episode of Spirit of Revenge, Thomas finds Pinocchio, a puppet created by his great grandfather, Finn Rosen, a.k.a Gepetto. The next thing ya know, the whole town is being hexed by a revengeful spirit, and Thomas goes off the rails of the crazy train. His wife Emma knows exactly what to do, call the expert, Brenda Gale. Ms. Gale begins the investigation by snooping through everyone's personal belongings, including the neighbors. There's all the aspects we HOPA fans adore, the missing zipper pull, finding oil that instantly removes 20 years worth of corrosion instantly, finding the exact wrench needed to turn off the spewing hydrant (which btw is laying right next to it) and plenty of HOP's with feathers, bells, lions, watches, etc. to find before finding the one and only item we can actually use! None of this would be possible in my opinion without the help of our little buddy, the Kiwibird you get to name. ( I can't tell you what I named my little buddy, it's inappropriate)
In the Collector's Edition version, there are Morphing Objects to find in each scene that will give you a hint for each one you find. There are supposedly only 10, so what happens when you need 11 hints? There are 4 Tubes of Paint to find that unlock a bonus mini game, and after the demo there are collectible Musicians and Actors to find that unlock two more bonus mini games. In my opinion, this game is CE unworthy.
I HOPe you love HOP's because there's a ton of em! Lot's and lots of junk to rummage through, Interactive List finds, Multiple Silhouetted Shape finds, and Progressive Interactive Silhouetted Shape finds, some of which have small puzzles to solve. There are no alternate games available in lieu of the Hidden Object Puzzles.
The Mini Games I will admit, have some entertainment value, because I actually enjoyed some of them which were kind of new, especially the parallel parking game. Some, not all, are available in an easy or hard difficulty mode.Below are some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Select and replace missing items in a town scene.
2) Move two gears along all of the lines only once to an empty slot.
3) Block the darts by moving the paddle left or right until the meter fills.
4) Position the left wing to match the right wing, by moving sections with directional arrows, this is a 3 part puzzle with more sections added each time.
5) Parallel park a van using DNR modes, directional steering and the gas and brake pedals.
6) Position the doorknockers according to the matching eye colors that appear when swapping, then select them in the correct order according to the clue shown.
7) Select arrows to rotate and swap disks to their matching related symbols.
8) Select 8 matching pairs of Symbols.
9) Move the token along all lines without crossing, to all items except the one's Chloe doesn't like.
10) Turn all hands to point down, selecting one hand may affect others.

Thomas's wife, Emma, has asked for your help as Thomas is unexpectedly claiming to be his own great grandfather, Finn Rosen. Even more puzzling are the odd incidents related to items bought in the Larsson's antique shop, originally owned by Finn.
You will play as Brenda Gale, the detective summoned by Emma. You will be examining items and areas in the village in an effort to solve the problem of the ghostly green fog that is suddenly associated with the purchased antiques and is now bedeviling the residents. Somehow this will all tie into an old doll that Finn himself constructed and which has recently reappeared. Good luck, Miss Gale.
Good stuff: all the usual game elements are here, HOPs, mini-games and puzzles, and the most minimal amount of story you will find in any demo.
Bad stuff: I missed a puzzle piece early on and could not go back to get it - even though it was still clearly visible in the scene. Tough luck on me as it was crucial to finishing the demo. Luckily by the time I figured out I'd need to start over, I was done trudging through the demo. I could have forgiven the odd accents and stoic VOs, the mundane HOPs, and the same old mini-games. I can't forgive the minimalist story. There is a murder in the opening animation - with no apparent provocation. There are reported "incidents" with items from the shop, with no actual description of these incidents. And your interview with a grandmother, Mrs. Meier, and her granddaughter, Chloe, doesn’t furnish you with much more than another glimpse of the green fog and a word spelled out in blocks.
There is so much missing, you will wonder why the Devs bothered to put out this game. Perhaps they were as tired of the Spirit of Revenge series as this game would imply!
Please try the demo before you think of purchasing.
