Are there really such things as vampires? Perhaps you will find the answer to that question as you play this new Vermillion Watch game – In Blood. There has been a series of ghastly murders in Whitechapel recently where each of the victims died of exsanguination. The Watch has called you in to work on this case young Hawkes and as Phineas Fogg briefs you on the case he lets you know that he has called in Maria Shelley to help you, since she is the Watch’s expert on anything that might require medical expertise.

When you and Maria arrive at the scene of the latest murder you find that Maria has brought along her reanimation equipment that will be used to revive the victim for a short time so that she can tell you who murdered her. As you are seeking answers, a cloaked figure attacks and almost manages to kill Maria. It looks like someone doesn’t want you involved in the case. Maria asks that you call in Dr. Jekyll to assist with the strange findings she has found but shortly after you meet with Dr. Jekyll, he is kidnapped. Now you and the Watch must work to save Dr. Jekyll before it is too late. What is the kidnapper’s plan and why do they need Dr. Jekyll? Find the answer to this question as you play this exciting new game in the Vermillion Watch series.
As is the case in all the Vermillion Watch games you will have a trio of evildoers to catch up with. Each villain is in a different location and as you take your preliminary evidence to Rufus you will be able to select the order in which you wish to visit each location.
The HOPS are excellent and well-designed with some of them being multi-level. The first HOP in the game ends with an interesting puzzle that I haven’t seen before; in fact, many of the scenes seemed to be more puzzle-like in style which, IMHO, made them far more entertaining than usual. The puzzles are very creative as well and, although some of them might seem easy, overall they contained more difficulty than usual. Thankfully I purchased the CE and have been able to use the Strategy Guide when I was stuck on solving a puzzle or making my way around in the game. For me this game is the best in the Vermillion Watch series. It looks like EIPIX has listened to the comments of many gamers and stepped up the entire level of challenge with this game. It didn’t seem like there was as much hand-holding in the game and it took me quite a bit of time to find what I needed to make some progress. Again, the Strategy Guide came in handy and I seemed to use it more than I have in ages. Normally I barely glance at the guide and then only if I am stuck locating a collectible item.
The CE version of the game includes the following extras: Morphing Objects that can be found in the HOPS, Collectibles in each scene of the game, Achievements to earn, Pictures that include the Wallpapers, and Concept Art, Music, Videos, a Bonus Game, and the Strategy Guide. You can also replay 21 HOPS and 29 Puzzles. I would recommend that if you are new to playing HOPA games you consider purchasing the CE because of the in-game Strategy Guide – you might need to use it.
I love this game that for me is by far the best game in the Vermillion Watch series and one that might be a contender for game of the year. Although I am not a fan of the Dracula theme, this game is so well done and intriguing that I found myself very involved in the action. I don’t like snakes and had a jump-scare moment or two in the game, particularly when I opened a door and there was a huge snake right in my face. So be warned if you happen to really hate snakes or have Ophidiophobia, there are a few of them in the game. As always, please try the demo to see if Vermillion Watch In Blood is a game you will enjoy. Happy Gaming! Show less

The Vermillion Watch series is slowly, but surely, becoming my favorite HOPA series from Eipix Entertainment. With this fourth installment, the Vermillion Watch continues it's hunt for the insidious Red Queen. During the past week, a series of ghastly murders has occurred in Whitechapel, where female victims were found drained of blood. Are there vampires on the loose in London or is this yet another sinister trick done by the Red Queen? Vermillion Watch: In Blood takes us right back to 19th century London, when streets were roamed with serial killers and citizens were filled with fear. The plot here is definitely chilling, with a nice balance between cult horror and who-dun-it mystery. The fast-paced nature of the storytelling keep me on the edge of my seat and the action-packed storyline just adds to the never-ending thrills. Unlike most of the HOPA games as of late, Vermillion Watch: In Blood never feels lazy. The story is packed with unexpected twists and neat ideas, I have never been this engaged in a HOPA storyline for quite a while. Eipix did a fantastic job creating an ominous atmosphere in Vermillion Watch: In Blood. The visuals are astounding and filled with intricate details, while the cutscenes are some of the best we have seen from the genre. In addition, the voice-overs are also stellar and convey the emotional layers of the characters extremely well. If only the background music was a little more intense, especially during climatic moments, the production in this game would have been perfect. The gameplay in Vermillion Watch: In Blood is surprisingly challenging. The gameplay itself is not particularly complex, but it includes some unconventional tasks that require some creative utilization of inventory items. The excessive number of puzzles also adds to the difficulty of the game. Although the majority of the puzzles are interesting and enjoyable, a number of them is unnecessarily convoluted. As for the hidden object scenes, they are exquisitely-designed, but are by no means groundbreaking. Vermillion Watch: In Blood is also a considerably long game. I decided to play the CE version and it took me nearly five hours to complete the main game, and another hour to master the bonus chapter. The Collector’s Edition comes with all the usual features; a strategy guide, wallpapers, concept art, soundtracks, cut-scenes, behind-the-scenes pictures, re-playable hidden object scenes, re-playable puzzles, achievements, collectibles, a souvenir room, and MORPHING OBJECTS! I highly recommend all the editions in this series and fans of Vermillion Watch will most likely want this installment too in order to complete their collection! Cheers!

I play games for the puzzles, mostly. This game has quite a few, and they're not all easy. Some take a while, which gives you more playing time. Really liked this one. And now I need to check to see if I have all 4 Vermillion games. Have fun!

The "choices" you have when doing certain tasks is a new twist on the usual same-old games. The mini-games are interesting and different, and though some are easier than others, I've found most have a good level of difficulty without being impossible. The storyline seems a little fragmented to me, but I still enjoyed the process of the game and the way it's structured. There aren't a lot of HO scenes, which I also like, and in general not much of the typical "fit a thing into a slot" puzzles, thank goodness. The developers seem to be trying to brand this series with some unique features and game structure. I look forward to more in this series. Show less

the storyline was true to the series (which is always a bonus) - it was great introduction giving some details to the previous games in the series but it also did well as a stand alone game.
i loved the information "facts" about Londoners in the early days - such as having the post delivered 12 times a day etc., - these were fun "facts".
As always true before you purchase - happy gaming :) Show less

In Blood starts out with a bang, and after playing the CE demo, I knew I just had to have this game! As with all Vermillion Watch games, you get to choose the Chapters in whichever order you want, but it has absolutely no impact on any aspect of the game, which is kind of a bummer. The three chapters (between 1 & 5) are simply chapters that focus on each of the three characters, Carmilla's Penthouse, Varney's Atelier and Dracul's Train.
Because each of those chapters only deals with a single person, it can get a little dull at times, and they are quite lengthy chapters at that. I also grew weary of all the recipe following tasks, it felt like that was all I was doing, searching for ingredients, making potions, forging emblems, finding more ingredients, making more potions, it just kept going on and on, until I was bored halfway through each chapter and desperately wanting to move on. I've never been a fan of making recipes and following step by step instructions in just the right order, but if you enjoy those types of puzzles, it will a perfectly fine game. Here's a recap of my review to help you decide which version, if either, is right for you:
The insidious Red Queen has finally met her demise, (or has she?) so Master Hawkes can finally breathe a sigh of relief, now that the foggy streets of London are once again safe. The Vermillion Watch remains vigilant, quietly blending into London's society of elites, secretly gathering intelligence, and always keeping tabs on suspicious behaviors. Perhaps the Vermillion Watch let their guard down prematurely, or perhaps tonight's strange occurrence was too unfathomable for the human mind to comprehend. Because tonight, an Evil has been awakened, always vigilant and capable of secretly blending into London's society as a means to gather intelligence. An Evil with an insatiable appetite......for blood!
This is the exact storyline Vermillion Watch needs to adhere to, the Jekyll & Hyde, Jack the Ripper, Burke & Hare, Eleanor Pearcey, Dr. Thomas Neill Cream, Dr. William Palmer, Mary Ann Cotton kind of legendary serial killers of 19th century London, NOT the Wizard of Oz American scenario! The streets of London were brutal in Victorian London, it doesn't mean the game has to be brutal, but Dracula sure makes for an interesting subject now doesn't it!
The Collector's Edition version has some CE bling, with the usual wallpapers, music, movies, achievements, replayable mini-games and hop's, strategy guide and bonus chapter. Other than those staple features, the only collectibles are fairly large not so hidden Drops, and of course Morphing Objects offered only within the HOP's (PLEASE LISTEN EIPIX...most players want morphs in each scene, you can keep them in the HOP's just add them to each scene for a perfect CE game!) I'd probably even be willing to pay a buck or two more if a game had some killer morphs, something very challenging such as those offered within the earlier Dark Parable games, that were non-linear and didn't morph until triggered by an action in a different scene! (now that was creative)
The Hidden Object Scenes are a wee bit scarce in the demo, but there are 24 in total. Most of the HOP's are List finds, some have slight Interactions required such as opening something or moving an object out of the way. There are also Multiple finds, Keywords in Sentence finds and Sketched picture finds, but not a lot of variety, even Each HOP has 1 Morphing Object to find in the CE version, and no alternate puzzle offered.
The Mini Games are decent and range from easy to medium difficulty and they haven't offered those dreaded, clicking on one may affect others, kind of frustrating puzzles! Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Rotate cubes to match the schematics.
2) Stack discs on bases with vertical rods of various heights.
3) Push rows and columns so each has identical horseshoes.
4) Adjust the legs of each horse to match the picture.
5) Select the correct partial labels and then the correct bottle. 6) Click cylinder pins to match the pattern on the music sheet
7) Repeat the piano key sequence of eye movements.
8) Rotate rings on discs to create the symbols shown.
9) Search the room through a keyhole to find objects.
The Collector's Edition version has 9 Wallpapers, 9 Concept Art pictures, 9 Developer before & after split pictures, 12 Music Soundtracks, 7 Video Movie Cutscenes, 24 re-playable Hidden Object Puzzles, 29 re-playable Mini Games, 15 Achievements to earn, 12 Souvenir items to locate, 42 collectible Hidden Drops, 24 Morphing Objects within the Hidden Object Puzzles, 5 Main Chapters + Bonus Chapter and a built-in Strategy Guide.
