When I played the beta test for Moonsouls Echoes of the Past last year, I knew that this game would be something special. Of course I purchased the game immediately with no second thought or need to even try the demo. Since I was blown away by the game and because I want you to discover it for yourself, I am not going to sketch out the storyline for you. If you love a good Sci-Fi game that blends the best of both worlds, then you will want to see the story unfold as you play. At this point I want to let you know that the game might have a slow beginning but stick with it because when the demo ends things change and it is worth finding out what happens next. I actually had one of those “did that really happen” moments when the demo ended on a cliffhanger so you will want to see what happens next.
Everything about Moonsouls is exactly what I want in a game with gameplay and a storyline that held my attention, excellent HOPS and fun puzzles to solve. I think you should consider the CE release of the game particularly if you love finding collectibles and morphing objects. Yes, I know that many of you are tired of collecting the same Mad Head logo but I found many of them quite difficult to spot. In a departure from the norm for this developer, you will find morphing objects located throughout the game and not only in the HOP scenes.
The HOPS are very good although I did find a couple of them to be overly crowded with junk but even that didn’t change my mind about my enthusiasm for the game. After the demo there is a HOP scene that I consider to be one of the most creative I have ever seen and I loved it. Although the puzzles were good (and some were great) I did skip of few of them such as the one where I needed to avoid objects coming at me. I loved the puzzles that were more mental in type along with others that required moving objects through a maze.
The CE version of the game includes morphing objects and Mad Head’s favorite collectible logo to find located throughout the game. There are 23 achievements to earn as you play the game. Other extras include 12 Wallpapers, 17 Concept Art, 8 Music Tracks, and an HO gallery that allows you to replay 16 HOPS but there is no option included to replay the Puzzles which is a bit disappointing. There is a Bonus Chapter and a 39-page Strategy Guide.

In the end I loved this game and now I am going to look forward to another game in the Moonsouls series. In closing my hope is that more developers will offer good Sci-Fi games and get us out of the evil demon rut that seems to have been hanging around at BFG way too long. Thank you Mad Head for creating such a wonderful game because for the first time in ages, I actually played the entire game while only stopping to stretch my limbs once in a while. As always, I recommend that you try the demo to see if you will enjoy Moonsouls Echoes of the Past as much as I did. Happy Gaming!

This game starts in the middle age with inventors and continues in the future (on another planet Moonsouls).
We are able to translate Alien Language with a gantlet (same in Stargate - goa'uld) and we have special powers.
The voice of Uncle is more than perfect but not very good for the character (Strange drawing).
The empress is incredibly beautiful and even the vilain is.
We have a whole series of adventures, go to space, return to earth, sailing (this part is so so funny to play) …
Truly enjoyed this game and hope you will evethough it is either complicated or not very accurate.
Well in summary, good moment.
Enjoy ! (if you choose to play the demo)
I was really in other world for 4 or 5 hours.
Roger wants a treat, Roger wants a treat, I love Pirat Parrots in games. :D This makes me laugh so hard.

This was really fun. Lots of mini's, ho's, and there's actually a good story line. Take your time, use your compass; it's a big help. I did have to skip a few games because they were difficult, but all in all it's a great game. Played expert level.

Another great game from MadHead. It's fun to play a game that's a departure from the usual detective in a haunted mansion or mental asylum. The storyline was great fun and the puzzles and hidden object puzzles were a little different from the norm. I liked it a lot!

For me, the highlight is the storyline, and I am not that much of a Sci-Fi fan unless it's done well, and this one is done very well. True, the mini games are easy but I did not find the hidden object scenes overtly obvious but I am a player with only intermediate skills. Both mini games and hidden object scenes are germane to the storyline so there is a real flow to the game.
As other reviewers have said, Mad Head Games always delivers a game that is a bit different than the usual fare, especially the story line. And I think that goes for the hidden object scenes and mini games as well. Whether you find those easy or hard, they are different. It is such a pleasure to play a Mad Head Game.
As always, try the demo first. Enjoy the play! Show less

I just finished playing the CE version of Moonsouls today and I enjoyed it from beginning to end. The storyline held my attention the entire time, I loved the power-hungry Empress character, wanting to take over the worlds because that's a little different than what we usually get (Mages & Sorcerers) The mini-games were good after the demo, but the HOP's were so easy that I'd call over my 6-year-old granddaughter every time I'd come across one, and she would find every single item within a matter of a minute or two. If a child who just started kindergarten this year can find them that easily, Mad Head Games may want to re-think the way they do their HOP's!
There are 5 main chapters that were just the right length, about 5-6 pages worth on the SG, and the Bonus Chapter is a sequel that takes place on the moon. (I can't say why, who it's about, or what it's about without giving away the plot of the main story, sorry :() but it was fairly interesting and I liked that it continues on the moon vs. earth.
I prefer CE versions personally because I love collectibles and Morphs (and for once MHG offers morphs in every scene & the HOP's so THANK YOU MAD HEAD!) and those collectible's and morphs continue during the Bonus Chapter scenes. If you miss a Morph within the HOP you can return after the main game, to re-play the HOP's and pick up any you may have missed. You can also try to earn a higher score, faster time, improve the accuracy or improve the 1-3 star rating. I remembered to look for all of the collectibles and morphs in each scene so I'm not sure if they allow you to go back to the scenes to search for them, after completing the Bonus Chapter. Here's a recap of my review to help you decide which version, if either, is right for you:
The future and the past have caught up with each other in Mad Head Games latest masterpiece, Moonsouls: Echoes of the Past! It seems war is inevitable for everyone everywhere, wars that divide but don't always conquers. You may have been expecting to see futuristic inventions at the Victory Day Celebration this year, but helping the victim of a crashed UFO was probably something you could never have imagined. This alien risked everything, to deliver a dire message, "Your world is in danger, HE is coming"!
Kudos to Mad Head Games! They continue to release new series games that are incredible! Nobody else seems to be moving forward, they just keep releasing one game after another, in the same old series that dates back to the beginning of the HOPA craze, and they are dreadful games at that! So for having an imagination, thank you MHG!
There is a Gadget involved, however, in my opinion, it works, and is something I could envision using in a futuristic world. A device is attached to your hand by the alien, that allows you to understand and communicate in their native language. It also allows you to read, books, signs, and instructions once you arrive on their planet. In the CE version, those famous Mad Head Spirals have made another appearance, and they also offer Morphing Objects, 31 scene morphs, and 16 hop morphs. If you click on the Spiral Icon (bottom left) it shows 31 Icons that light up as you find them. It also shows the ones you may have missed and which location they were in, which I really liked.
The HOP's are very easy, the only time I had trouble finding an item, was due to poor graphics or items that weren't recognizable, not because they were well hidden. In the CE version, each HOP has a Morphing Object, and this time, I'm okay with it, because they also have Morphing Objects available in each scene location! There are Interactive List items, hidden Symbols within a book, Pair finds that uncover a termite (to use as an inventory item) and my personal favorite, finding sections within the scene that matches Square Swatches. Unfortunately, there isn't an alternate puzzle offered to play instead of the HOP.
The Mini-Games are super fun, although they do tend to be on the easy side of the spectrum. My favorite puzzles were the key puzzles that required replicating the pattern on the clues but it's shown in a different orientation. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Select highlighted color-coded portals to move a ball to end.
2) Stop the ball when it's in the targeted area. x2.
3) Place light orbs onto sockets to match outlines.
4) Drag a line to remove stones & fill meter before opponent
5) Place gears correctly to move freely.
6) Rotate tiles to complete the image.
7) Drag the lines on a grid to replicate the pattern.
The Collector's Edition version has 4 Wallpapers, 4 Concept Art pictures, 8 Music Soundtracks, 16 re-playable Hidden Object Puzzles, 11 Achievements to earn (some have 3 categories) 47 Morphing Objects (31 Scene Morphs/16 HOP Morphs) 31 hidden Spirals, 5 Main Chapters + Bonus Chapter (sequel that takes place on the moon again) and a built-in Strategy Guide, enjoy the dark side of the moon!

However, they were stunned to see a huge object descend from the sky and fall nearby. In the moments that follow, their lives will be changed completely and utterly by a force the did not even know existed - coming from a place that was always obscured in the night sky.
You and your nephew Isaac are on the way to the annual Victory Day Festival to showcase your new innovations when this strange vessel fell from the sky. Isaac could not contain his curiosity and so while exploring he becomes trapped in this alien vessel. Do you have what it takes to free Isaac and discover what this intergalactic vehicle is doing on Earth? In a peaceful fantasy kingdom, your actions will mark the future of two worlds! As the clock ticks away, you will be propelled into an adventure that will defy everything you thought you knew about the world. Will you be able to recognize truth and discard any lie, no matter how impressive it might be? Will you save many more people than just your nephew? Can you even survive all that is coming your way?
If you enjoyed Madhead's Beyond: Light Advent & Beyond: Star Descendant then you will most likely enjoy Moonsouls: Echoes of the Past too! Right from the beginning, I noticed the similarities between this brand-new series from Mad Head Games to another franchise from this very developer, Beyond. Not only are they both Sci-Fi-themed adventures, but the slight playfulness, and the hint of innocence are prevalent in both series. If there is one thing that distinguishes Moonsouls from the Beyond games, it would be that Moonsouls sets in the medieval era, quite an interesting time period for a Sci-Fi game. Story wise, Moonsouls turns a recycled story full of HOPA clichés into an engaging tale through masterful storytelling and fun characters. I also appreciate how Mad Head cleverly integrated the game’s puzzles into the storyline with some neat twists that set them apart from the usual puzzles in other games of its kind. The hidden object scenes are also extremely creative and feature plenty of interactions and multi-layered scenes. I'm not usually a fan of gimmicky tools in HOPAs. Despite that, Moonsouls: Echoes of the Past manages to win me over with the “translation device”. This tool not only works to help us complete tasks, but can also be used to interact with non-interactive spots in the game, such as translating notes, random city signs, and so on. The visuals are flawless and each scene is created with such precision and painted with glowing colors. On the other hand, Moonsouls does not achieve a “signature look” with this first game. Being a game that is heavily-focused on the science fiction aspect, I sort of expected the locations in the game to be more Sci-Fi-influence. As it is, Moonsouls looks and feels like any other fantasy, portal-traveling games, especially Mad Head’s own Nevertales series. The main game takes just a little over three hours to complete, and the bonus chapter offers another 45 minutes of gameplay. The Collector’s Edition does not contain any surprises just the usual bling; a strategy guide, wallpapers, concept art, soundtracks, replayable hidden object scenes, achievements, collectibles, and morphing objects. Whether you choose the SE version or the CE version it's definitely a 4 star game experience. Cheers!

Good game.
It was a short game which seems to be the growing trend.
Graphics were one of the best I have seen in a game.
The story is nothing new but a slight twist.
Voice acting was good but the shortness still bothers me so a good sale or free game.
