Available at BFG since 2018. Review based on completed game and bonus game. Although the beginning starts off a little cartoonish as far as the resolution goes, the actual compositions are fantastic! The further you play, the more you find a balanced mix - cartoonish to more realistic, but all with great, spot-on perspectives.
MOSS, ROCKS, RIVERS & LAVA: Emerald moss in most scenes, sometimes carpets of it, sometimes a clump. Megalithic-sized rocks in the environment and huge castles. Water everywhere, streaming and winding. Twisting, ancient tree-trunks and logs. Lava spilling, fire crackling and portions of timbers glowing. Ferns, ivy and weeds! Ah, delightful. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND WEARING YOUR HEADPHONES AND TURNING UP THE ENVIRONMENTAL SOUND to capture all the accompanying sound effects which are really big in this game.
EVEN THE INDOORS is jam-packed with spot-on perspectives and details. Just about every scene is almost a computer game version of something that could be real! Just gorgeous. I did get quite the feeling, that many off these places were real! Including the castles AND the occasional, weird decorations...
The storyline is a little bit bloodthirsty in a few short scenes, but not too much is shown, and most of it is left up to your imagination.
HOPS - about 6-8 in main game. 3-4 in bonus.
PUZZLES – were fun.
SOUNDS – 4 adjustments. Turn up the environmental sound on your headphones. You'll be swept away with the detail.
CHARACTERS: Minimal, intermittent interaction. I thought the characters were done well but felt the reading voices were aimed at a younger audience. So, I silenced the voices and read the dialogue, which helped build a different atmosphere.
BONUS game- The bonus game is very enjoyable.
This CE has lots to offer, from morphing objects to re-playable games. However, I would say that this game is so good, that the SE will be a great buy too! Show less
I recommend this game!

Interesting Story. This was all about saving her brother. I enjoyed finding Statuettes, morphing and picture fragments. After playing the game and Bonus chapter. I realized I did not get all the collectibles so will have to replay the game to acquire all of them. I really enjoyed the Bonus Chapter. You get to see Anabel and Callum.
Good Game, Really enjoyed it

A violent storm and subsequent shipwreck as Arabella and her bother Damien are traveling to join their father kick off this fifth game in the Midnight Calling series, based on the developer’s wildly popular Midnight Castle FTP game. You play the game as Arabella and awaken on the shore of an island after what you only imagine was a shipwreck since you have no memory of events past the turbulent storm that had your ship being tossed about in the towering waves. What is even worse than the shipwreck is that you see your brother being kidnapped by a strange man when you awaken. Your efforts to follow the kidnapper are in vain as he blocks your path with brambles that must be removed before you can follow. Will you be able to save Damien from his kidnapper? And, more importantly, why would anyone want to kidnap him. Play this wonderful new game as you use everything in your power to save your beloved younger brother.
During the four years since its release I’ve managed to resist playing Midnight Castle but have recently fallen under the spell of the magnificent and dare I mention addictive game that led to the spin-off Midnight Calling series. Midnight Calling Arabella came along at the perfect time as I now have a more developed appreciation of the characters. The game is full of colorful graphics that I personally find a bit cartoonish and not my favorite style. A nice touch in the game is that we are offered a choice of having a cute little kitten as a helper. The choice is yours and will in no way change the course of the game. Your other tool is the onboard map.
The HOPS include the usual suspects with the requisite variety. The scenes at times seem to be nothing more than junk piles but it seems the games are reverting to the old school HOP where that was generally the case. I had a difficult time spotting the items in some of the mini-scenes (a recent favorite of developers rather than the large scenes where we must find a larger list of items) as items would be layered on top of each other. The puzzles were fun although not difficult, making this an easy-breezy game that will appeal to a variety of gamers from young to old.
If you, like me, prefer the CE version of a game you can find a variety of collectibles as well as morphing objects. There are achievements to earn and the standard fluff that is found in most CE games.
Because of my recent fascination with Midnight Castle, I couldn’t wait for Midnight Calling Arabella and purchased it the minute it was released. I find the gameplay easy but adequate to keep me entertained and involved in the game. Even though I have played over 1,000 HOPA games I always find something to enjoy in almost every new game that comes along. Although Midnight Calling Arabella is the perfect game for me, please try the demo to see if it is one you will enjoy as well. Happy gaming! Show less

3 Chapters Plus a Bonus Chapter – Strategy Guide: 37 Pages (Nice-sized game with a long bonus chapter)
OVERVIEW: Holy bats! Vampires are back! Play Arabella, daughter of Chamberlain, leader of the vampires. You and your brother, Damien, have grown up with privilege and wealth. As the next ruler of the vampires, your brother, Damien, is endowed with special powers. However, your Aunt Alessandra, sister of your father, wants to usurp him as ruler. You and your brother were sent abroad for further training and when summoned home, your ship is shipwrecked by dark forces, landing you upon a mysterious land. Now, your aunt has kidnapped Damien, put a spell on him, and is planning to use his to usurp your father. Can you stop her in time?
OPINION: What a fantastic game! Personally, I feel this better than the previous games in this series. The main game is short; however, the bonus game is almost one-third the size of the main game. This game should appeal to those who like vampire stories or those who love this series. The story deals with vampire royalty, jealousy, and family intrigue. I found the game flowed smoothly and was an easy play. The pace is excellent with plenty of activities. The graphics are stunning, providing beautiful fairy tale scenes contrasted against a blood-filled vampiric environment. I highly recommend this game for its quality.
MECHANICS: There are the usual four (4) levels of play including a customized version. There are twenty-two (22) achievements. Collect twenty-seven (27) morphing objects and thirty-two (32) stained glass fragments. Collect eleven (11) figurines of characters within the game as well. Most are easy to locate. Some practically jump out at you – a little too large, in my opinion. I also wish Elephant would provide an indicator bar to show if there are collectibles within a scene which need to be located.
There is a secret room. Although not announced, within the secret room you will discover thirteen (13) puzzles and sixteen (16) HOP scenes you can replay after the game. There are ten (10) wallpapers and the usual concept art and music selections. The only thing I dislike about this game is the curved inventory bar. It does not display many objects upfront, and I disliked having to move it back-and-forth to view all the available inventory items.
OPTIONAL HELPER. You can receive the help from a cat – or not. You can opt out of the cutesy helper. I wish more developers would offer this option. You also get this option in the bonus chapter as well.
BONUS CHAPTER Get ready for some pirates, matey! The bonus chapter is a sequel. Arabella has been contacted by Callum, a character from the main game. Pirates have kidnapped his friend and he needs her help. It is a long chapter and I feel this chapter is better in some ways than the main game. I found the puzzles much better in this chapter.
HOP SCENES: There are sixteen (16) HOP scenes in the game with five (5) mini-HOP scenes. They are varied, and to me, the ones after the demo are better crafted than those in the demo. They vary in style. Most are lists of items or silhouette. However, Elephant provides scenes which alternate searching for lists of items with searching for silhouette items. Most scenes are somewhat interactive. There are also a few matching scenes and a pattern scene, (items are searched based on their pattern, not by name or silhouette).
FAVORITE HOP SCENE: There is one HOP scene which I feel demonstrates the ingenuity and gaming craftmanship of this developer You search for a list of items and silhouette items at the same time. The scene consists of a very long cabinet in which you must use five (5) arrows to extend the scene to locate these items. The cabinet has several shelves so locating theitems is not easy. The silhouette items require interaction with the scene. This scene also includes a mirror jigsaw puzzle and a switch puzzle as well.
PUZZLES: The puzzles are amazing! There are twenty-nine (29) in the game and they vary in style and difficulty. Most are of middle difficulty, although there are easy ones as well. I did not find any challenging puzzles. My favorite was a creative gear puzzle within the bonus chapter.
SPOILERS: HERE ARE SOME PUZZLES FROM THE GAME AFTER THE DEMO:
A. Switch puzzle. Switch three types of items – bats, fangs, and cups so that each row has items which match up and each column has items of the same color. You can only switch items which are the same color or item.
B. Map puzzle. Plot a path for Arabella’s ship by placing arrows in a grid to plot the course, avoiding obstacles. Press a button to test your path after you have set it up. 2X
C. Rope puzzle. Untangle flaming ropes so none cross. 3X
BONUS CHAPTER:
D. Matching. On a grid of stars, create a given pattern seen in a telescope. The pattern is not copied for you. If you forget the pattern you must return to the telescope to view it.
E. Matching pairs. On a diamond-shaped board, match up like tokens. Press on “eyes” which allow you to see only one row at a time. There is only one way all the items can be paired so you need to strategize.
F. Gear puzzle. Switch colored gears in five locations on a clock so that the same colored gears are within the same location and interconnected. The gears will spin if placed correctly
G. Skipping stones puzzle. Connect like tokens to remove them. Play against the computer to get the most tokens.

It's time for another journey to the Castle. Midnight Castle fans know that it's not about what happens in the Castle, it's all about the journey to the Castle. It's time for another journey to the Castle. Midnight Castle fans know that it's not about what happens in the Castle, it's all about the journey to the Castle. This is a Castle Calling you might not want to answer on your journey, and especially not at Midnight, but if you're Arabella, the things that go bump in the night are probably just your family members!
Good news! There are NO gadgets involved! Bad news, there is a Kitten Helper! Good news, you can opt to leave him where you found him! Although I'm not a fan of most helpers (Elf, Tom & Mr. Jenkins are the exceptions) I still chose to let him tag along for 2 reasons. I wanted to be able to report how intrusive or annoying she was, and she was barely noticeable, plus I thought she was rather cute and unusual looking. There are Morphing Objects to find but not in every scene, and most of the scenes also have Stained Glass puzzle pieces. There are 12 Statue Figurines of all the Midnight Calling Characters from Anabel to the Wise Dragon, which I thought was a cool idea, but the collectibles and Morphs are fairly large and hard to miss.
My only complaint is that I'd love to see more realistic graphics versus the cartoon style graphics this series has. I realize this is a Fantasy Themed genre game, but everything is so large and plain looking, the colors are nice, but if they opted for CG graphics they could totally pull this genre off and appeal to more fans. There are several "logic fails" right from the get-go when the druid disappears through brambles that were so thick it required me to find and use a tool two seconds later! There are also several tried and true HOPA cliche items used throughout the game, the famous container of Magic Oil that removes 30 years worth of rust, a glass shard knife, a hive of angry bees and of course, a vial of green acid that eats through a solid chunk of metal instantly.
The Hidden Object Scenes are varied with Silhouetted Shape finds, Multiple finds, Interactive List finds and Progressive Interactions. Some of the HOP's were quite creative in the way they were presented and the locations themselves were beautiful, but they are much better after the demo where they become more complex. There are several smaller zoom zone HOP's or several objects to find once you open an interactive inventory item. There are no morphs and no alternate games available.
The Mini-Games tend to be on the easy-breezy side of the spectrum, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, easy can be fun too. Here's a list of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1-Move the ball through the maze by choosing highlighted areas.
2-Select highlighted areas to move 3 balls avoiding the moving pointers.
3-Rotate disk rings to create the image.
4-Rotate 4 circle wedges until they connect within the circle.
5-Use directional arrows to steer the boat and avoid obstacles.
This Collector's Edition version has 10 Wallpapers, 9 Concept Art pictures, 4 Music Soundtracks, 1a Secret Room with 6 re-playable Hidden Object Scenes, 13 re-playable Mini Games, 28 Morphing Objects, 32 Collectible Stained Glass Pieces (Photo Album) 12 Midnight Calling Character Figurines, 3 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter (sequel pirate themed game) and a built-in Strategy Guide, enjoy your journey!

I bought it because I thought it was fun and I liked the subject matter. The Secret Room has replays on 16 hops and 13 mini-games. Toward the end, I had about enough of straining my eyes because the scale of scenes are small and the guide pictures are Super small. I had to get out the magnifying glass to see things well. The insets to place things was way over the top too many. I couldn't go back and pick up the shard and morph I missed.
I liked only about five puzzles and I did like the hops, except the matching that you had to move things to find each one, I really don't like them. Some hops had you find things on a list and then find like five morphing objects, these I Love. I just wished things were larger.
My favorites in the series is Anabel and Valeria. I love the throwback to the other series because you see someone from the other series in the bonus chapter. I thought the bonus chapter was long because it took me more than a hour to complete it. I liked the bonus chapter's Nautical theme.
I liked the two toned cat, half blonde and half black. I had a choice to keep him and I did. He helped me by getting things out of reach. He's quite.
I counted 12 hops in the main game and 4 in the bonus. 28 morphing objects. 11 figures and lots of stained glass shards to collect. I liked the game but there are things I didn't like, so I don't know how to star it. Show less
