Spirit Legends The Forest Wraith is a new offering from Domini Games and is possibly the first of what might be a new fantasy game series and although I love fantasy games the Forest Wraith simply didn’t grab me. In the past this developer has created some wonderful and entertaining games but unfortunately the Forest Wraith has fallen victim to the recent cookie-cutter format that we see more and more often.
The Forest Wraith is nothing new or even very imaginative and I was bored right off the bat when the first HO scene was the storybook type where I had difficulty reading the print. Fortunately the print is read to us but I have a 34” monitor so I can’t imagine how much difficulty others might have had with seeing the script on smaller screens. My struggle with the print set the tone for the game and every time I encountered another storybook HO, I immediately switched to the alternate Match 3 game that is provided. I love HO scenes and they are often the most enjoyable feature in playing a HOPA game at least for me.
Yes, the game has another of those gimmicks that I believe are used as opportunities to throw more puzzles into the games. At the beginning of the game we must find our father’s diary that is a “bestiary” or manual of spells to deal with the forest monsters that we encounter. Each time we need to tame a beast we must play a puzzle from the bestiary before moving forward. I had hoped that gimmicks were being laid to rest but that is not the case in this and other games from this developer.
Something I do appreciate in this developer’s games is that they allow us to choose either the “Easy” or “Hard” setting when we solve a mini-game. We have the option of selecting which mode we want for solving puzzles at the beginning of the game when we choose “Custom Mode” when setting up our gameplay. Even though I select the Hard option at the beginning of the game I will change it to Easy if I am having a difficult time solving a puzzle. I found the puzzles to be far more enjoyable than the HOPS even though there was really nothing new with the puzzles.
Because I love fantasy games I had very high hopes for the Forest Wraith but it turned out to be a disappointment. So many of the games now are the same thing (I know it is difficult to always come up with something new) and lack the imagination that was found in games before they all became carbon copies of previous games. In the end, Spirit Legend the Forest Wraith is a pass for me but, as always, please try the demo because you might love this game. Happy gaming! Show less

Florena the evil Spirit Witch has been neutralized for three years now. Your father Adam bound her with three locks, but unfortunately, not before she destroyed your mother Evelyn. Adam divided the three keys to assure Florena would never escape wreaking havoc upon another family ever again. Ever never lasts forever, and Florena has just been unleashed to wreak havoc upon all of humanity. Who would do this and why? The bigger question is how to stop an evil witch that can turn forest creatures into monsters?
We don't have Magical Glasses Gadgets, but, we still have to endure a Gadget that seems to be the norm for Domini Games. Because this is a Fantasy-based genre, there are several Hybrid Forest Creatures encountered during the adventure. The Family Bestiary Book will destroy the beast within and change them back into the harmless creatures they were before Florena cursed them, after playing a mini-game of course. I thought it was funny that I deemed a grizzly bear inside the house as perfectly harmless now that he didn't have antlers? :-0
The Hidden Object Scenes aren't very creative and were the reason I deducted a Star. They are all Keywords in Sentence finds and very simplistic at that, but I suppose it's intended to get newbies onboard the HOPA train? A few of them did have an extra portion of Silhouetted Shape finds or Multiple finds after the Keyword sections, and there is an alternate Match 3 Game available, but I wasn't that crazy about these particular Match 3 games either.
The Mini-Games are available in Easy or Hard Modes, and in the Custom Settings Mode, you can choose which mode to start each game (you can still switch to the opposite mode during each mini-game) Below are brief descriptions of some of the games available during the game, to give you an idea of what to expect:
1-Select the correct symbols that are shown on the scroll, selecting 1 may affect others.
2-Swap tiles to complete color-coded connections on a honeycomb grid.
3-Jump tiles on a star grid to remove until all but one tile remains.
4-Use directional arrows to guide the silver ball into the silver slot.
5-Restore the stained-glass by adjusting set points to place pieces correctly.
6-Arrange figures according to how many horns they have selecting 1 may affect others.
7-Guide the ship to the exit using directional arrows and obstacles as bumpers.
8-Guide the sphere to the energy slot using color-coded portals.
9-Color dots according to the numbers shown on each grid square.
10-Swap figurines according to the engravings.
The Collector's Edition version has 15 Wallpapers, 20 Concept Art pictures, 5 Music Soundtracks, 37 Movie Video Cutscenes, 21 re-playable Mini-Games, 18 re-playable Hidden Object Scenes, 33 Achievements to Earn, 16 Collectible Magical Seeds (grow into plants with descriptions) 15 Morphing Animal Statuettes (gives a brief description) 70 Hidden Collectible Butterflies (allows you to purchase 15 Butterfly Garden Items) 6 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter and a built-in Strategy Guide, enjoy, while humanity still exists! Lack of clarity in the "mini-games" ruined any enthusiasm I started the game with. I would try the mini-games & most of which I landed up skipping {which I normally hate to do }
The bright colors were okay. That's about the extent of my opinion : (

One positive thing I can say about this game is that at least the colors aren't dim and dark. In fact, they are fluorescent, unrealistic, and hard on the eyes.

One positive thing I can say about this game is that at least the colors aren't dim and dark. In fact, they are fluorescent, unrealistic, and hard on the eyes.
And when I broke a key in a lock right at the beginning, I knew that this game was going to be nothing original, and I was right. Oh, wait. I take that back. I did have bee repellent in a perfume atomizer and didn't have to find a smoker, wet wood chips, and a match. Nor did I have to find the perfume bottle, collect the ingredients, and combine them in just the right order to make the repellent. It was handed to me with the words, "Here, take this. It might help," because doesn't everyone just happen to carry bee repellent in their pocket. And I'm thinking, "Bees? Again? Why are there always bees?"
Then there's the matter of clumsy pronunciation of French words and names... Rouen and Gratien were pronounced Rowen and Grayshen. Rouen is a city in France and the capital of Normandy. How hard would it have been to teach the actors the correct pronunciations, or (gasp!) have the imagination to create original names of places and people? Maybe I'm nitpicking, but it annoyed me.
The bottom line for me is it felt like I was playing a carbon copy of so many other games except this one was painted in Day-Glo colors. After 28 minutes of the demo, I was bored and couldn't have cared less if the Forest Wraith was defeated or not. Show less
