I was pleasantly surprised by this game. I'm not generally a fan of Christmas games (not because I don't like Christmas, just the way the games portray it) but his one was very good. The title tells you that Santa was framed (for stealing presents) and its up to you to track down the actual thief. The thief has also stolen Santa's voice adding to the difficulty. This leads you on a fairly long journey to various locations where you interact with many characters, including Jack Frost and the Snow Queen.
The story line is ok, but I thought the game play was better. There is a nice mix of puzzles and HOPs and I found most of them were interesting to play, if not especially innovative.
In my opinion, the weakest part of the game was the voice acting, particularly the character you play. I don't usually like to mention it, but the acting was just way over the top, easily reaching the overacting category. This is also true in the Bonus game, if you purchase the Collectors Edition as I did, where you play the elf. I found the elf's voice slightly more annoying.
Speaking of the Bonus Game, it is a bit of a letdown after the main game and not nearly as clever or good. For that reason, and if you miss a collectible in the main game you cannot go back afterwards to get it, I recommend this Standard Edition.
Despite a few broken icicles and lumps of coal, this is a good game and of course it's worth saving Santa. Merry Christmas! Show less

I love this new twist on a Christmas tale and the humor in it. The storyline was very entertaining for me. I loved the look of the graphics which seemed a little retro to me. The characters, voices, costumes, scenery were all done very well and the colors were not a neon assault on the eyes like in many Christmas settings.
The game was a lot of fun, not very difficult really, and all the games and HOPs were just the right challenge, for a relaxing good time with the entire family. I don't like giving too much info in my reviews, don't want to spoil anything for you.
Many of you may have read the CE reviews. Mine is posted there, a bit lengthier, if you care to check it out. I purchased this delightful Yuletide Legends game because the demo just made me do it !! It was a good purchase, no regrets. My collection of holiday games is getting crazy huge!
God Bless....

It's a long game and twice I thought it was almost over and it wasn't. The graphics are very detailed and well done. The cops looks like Don Knots but the voice isn't like his.
I loved it so much I bought the CE so I can play with extras and play the bonus chapter. Show less

I am nearing the end of this wonderful SE game that I purchased and must report that I love, love, love this game! I have read the negative reviews regarding Yuletide Legends: Who Framed Santa Claus and I respect and tend to agree with the reviewers because they have high standards, as do I. The grammar does indeed need work, there were a few errors, a word missing and the word "clock" should have read "clocks". And at first, the mechanics of the game was a little quirky, but I was able to deal with it. I do recall when I quit out of the game and went back into it the next day a couple of the tasks I had performed had to be repeated. Done and dusted!
Brave Giant Studio devs are ingenious. This game is intelligently written, has great strategy, lovely graphics, music that is unobtrusive, and it is different and I, for one, love different!! I am having a blast completing all the very clever tasks before me. I wish all devs could follow Brave Giant devs' suit. Really!!
However, I must agree with some of the reviewers about that silly, little elf who always demanded candy in order for us to get his help. He was annoying and that particular voiceover did not fit the character at all. They should have used a real child's voice or age-appropriate. But I quickly got over that. The detective's voice, at first, was annoying, but I got used to it and she was fine and got better as the game went on. The voiceover for Officer Jenkins did not suit him either. But the rest of the characters and their voiceovers were perfect. Mind you, I'm not saying those voiceovers for Jenkins, the detective, or the elf were bad. Not at all--they just didn't suit the characters. The character who asked the three questions with three choices each in order for the detective to proceed to the room--well, his voice blew me away! Very elegant and deep and wonderful!
All those very clever tasks, along with the great music, sound effects, special effects--I was just thrilled to be playing a game that flows well, and is intelligently engineered for a change! The tasks and interactive minigames within the tasks are fantastic.
Even with the aforementioned negatives, I'm still giving a rating of 5 stars across the board because #1, for once I'm not playing a cookie-cutter game; #2, I'm not being led by the hand; #3, I'm not at all bored, and #4, I am enjoying the storyline as I go along, and #5, I intend to play this game again and again. But as others always suggest, play the demo first and see for yourselves. To each his-her own. I highly recommend this delightful game. Great job, Brave Giant Studio devs! Great job! Please produce more great games! Show less

There were a lot of "junk pile" (said with affection) hidden objects that I really had to work to find but somehow it made the game even more fun and the objects were quite colorful.

Out of the three Christmas-themed HOPA games this year, I enjoyed this one the most because the storyline was good, the characters were more believable and the gameplay wasn't as easy-breezy as the others were. I completely agree with fellow reviewer s_s on his assessment of the game. The characters voiceovers and acting were annoying and over-the-top, especially Tinsel the Elf in the Bonus Chapter.
I too found the BC to be a letdown but most BC's aren't as thrilling as the Main Game. He also mentions that you can't return to the scenes to pick up any collectibles you may have missed after completing the main game. I have asked Brave Giant Studio this same question in the forums several times, why can't they allow us to return to the scenes to search for missed collectibles?
Sometimes RL interferes with gaming and you have to exit the game and when you return you just completely space looking for the collectibles. Allowing you to return to those scenes after completing the main game would be awesome, most other developers have this feature! Another option that would work is to allow us to return to all previous chapters scene locations, in other words, don't lock previous scenes on the Map so we can return to look for them anytime we want.
Holly Jolly Christmas Crimes, Santa's been framed I tell ya! Someone's been mistletoeing around and up to no good and now poor Santa is Jingle-Jangling all the way to the Pokey! As if a criminal record isn't as bad as getting a Lump of Coal for Christmas, they took it one step further and stole his Ho-Ho-Ho's! Never fear for Elf is here... well, he was sitting right on this shelf just a few minutes ago, hmf? ...Never fear for I will Spring Santa from doing serious Time in the Slammer, as soon as I find a way to bake a key into these Sugar Cookies, then I'll go dashing through the snow on a one-horse open sleigh, over the fields I'll go, laughing all the way! Let's just hope my trusty steed doesn't get spooked by that evil Krampus pudding!
The Collector's Edition version bling isn't as impressive as last weeks game and there's only one item per scene which is a little disappointing because I love the Yuletide Legends series the most out of all the Christmas oriented HOPA games. Daily Magic has handed the reins over to Brave Giant on this series so I'm anxious to see what they do with next years Yuletide Legends. The CE version has three different types of collectibles, Characters, Puzzles, and Gingerbread Men Cookies. There is a Present Icon on the Inventory bar that closes when the collectible has been found, and the good news is that there are no Gadgets or Helpers!
The Bonus Chapter (CE version only) takes us on a mission to cure Santa's Christmas Flu, playing as Tinsel the Elf. The BC has 5 Mini-Games and 5 Hidden Object Scenes but there are no Morphing Objects or Collectibles after the Main Game. (with the exception of the Morphing object available in the HOP's) The Bonus Chapter is pretty long and worthy of the extra price as far as quantity goes, but the storyline didn't thrill me as much as I had hoped.
The Hidden Object Scenes are varied with Interactive List Finds, Progressive-Interactive Silhouetted Shape Finds, Multiple Item Finds and Keywords in Sentence Finds. Most of the scenes have a Morphing Listed Item that must be clicked on in the correct form. The objects are fast-morphing and the listed text morphs on the inventory bar as well which makes it difficult Not to spot. There is an Optional Monaco Card game available, a Brave Giant standard feature.
The Mini-Games are fun but should be more Christmas-themed in my opinion. They are all fairly easy and many of the games are the same type which disappointed me somewhat for lack of originality. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the game:
1-Use directional arrows to navigate & find landmarks on a map.
2-Find matching pairs of keys.
3-Find and replace items within a book.
4-Select pins in the correct order by trial and error.
5-Select colored buttons according to the color-coded number clues.
6-Surround the Elf by trapping him on a honeycomb style grid.
7-Arrange the presents so that no row or column has matching presents.
8-Spot the differences between pictures.
9-Surround the Gingerbread Man from escaping.
This Collector's Edition version has 8 Wallpapers, 8 Concept Art Pictures,5 Music Soundtracks, Movie Cutscene Videos, 8 re-playable Mini-Games, 8 re-playable Hidden Object Scenes, 20 Achievements to Earn, 28 Christmas Collectibles (8 Gingerbread Men Cookies, 8 Character Figurines, 12 Puzzles) 4 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter and a built-in Strategy Guide, enjoy!

I liked this game much better in the beginning chapters and it fizzled a bit for me by the last. My final rating is 3.8*.
This game took me 4hrs 30min (over 8 days)
There are a bunch of different style of HOS and I liked those (aside from the silhouette ones). Each HOS has at least one morphing item even in the SE version.
I loved the reactive items (mostly in the demo) so be sure to click on everything in the scene to see them all. I love a DEV that takes the time to put details like this into a game.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some MG I liked in this game:
~I loved the Santa book in demo and wished it had way more pages.
~Cool how the evil snowman threw snowballs at me and when they hit the screen it freezes over. The water balloon MG to defeat him is tricky. I had to fiddle with it a bit until I figured it out.
~There is a M3 MG that we play in 2 different chapters with a connect the icon where your character faces off with an opponent. You have to fill 3 tubes with a certain # of icons but also need to make matches for the opponent too in order to fill all your own tubes. I liked it both times I played it.
~There is also a fun MG where you match EKG lines on a world globe.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I really liked the way they did the end cut scene to the main game and they tap on each chapter to just show a little ending for all the characters. Well done.
These graphics are too cartoony for me on the one hand, but I love how HD clear they are on a large monitor compared to what most DEV here offer. They are crisp and clean and I really like that about them but this DEV may want to check out they style of graphics for Enigmatis 3- The Shadow of Karkhala, Eventide 2: Sorcerer's Mirror or Faces of Illusion, which are similarly clear. By comparison they add a bit more of an oil painting effect to the scenes (with great contrast and lighting) that just really pop a scene compared to this game. I just think that style of graphics make the game look more expensive.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What I didn't like as much:
The way this game is set up, you can't just hand an item to another character without first clicking the character to open a "close up" scene of them talking. You'll bump in to it quite a bit and it was a little nuisance to hand the person the item try elsewhere before realizing you have to actually click the character to open another scene for them to accept it.
~Sound effects:
The more games I play I'm realizing I'm really annoyed by some of the game effect sounds. Every time you pick up an item in the HOS it made a sound, and every time you hit the hint button. I really hated the sound effect for "oops wrong item, try again". I wish the DEV would put an options slider in the menu for the game sound effects (like MHG does) that doesn't effect the environmental sounds.
~ The music was nice in this game but it played too much and I grew really tired of the song by the end.
I liked the demo the most and the 4th chapter the least. In the 4th chapter you play in a "kingdom of blue ice, with an evil ice queen". I usually bypass (and don't review much for)the king & queen type of game. The last chapter didn't feel much like a Christmas game to me that much.
I liked the game but by the end I was hitting the hint button a lot so I'm not sad I missed out on the CE version. Show less
