Living Legends the Crystal Tear is such a wonderful game with phenomenal graphics and a storyline, although told and retold many times is a still a favorite. In the Crystal Tear, the developer tells the tale with a twist that is interesting and held my attention throughout the game, well as much as I’ve been able to complete for now. I am not a fast gamer who can rush through a game and puzzles within a short period of time as I tend to look at and enjoy every detail, particularly when a game is as graphically rich as the Crystal Tear. I simply had to stop and enjoy every little detail that an amazing group of artists put into this game.
The HOS are very good, and it was not always easy to find the bits and pieces that were on a list. The list style of HOS are my favorites and fortunately there are many of that type while at the same time there is a nice variety of others. Many of the HOS are puzzle like in design, so they kept me quite entertained as I played. The mini games are very good and not all of them are easy. A favorite puzzle looked quite easy at first glance, but it kept me busy for over thirty minutes as I tried to align the pieces to make a keyhole. There should have been a reset button for that puzzle since I started off on the wrong foot and it took a while to get everything into the right position. The puzzles were overall quite excellent and kept me busy and happy as I solved my way through the game.
Living Legends the Crystal Tear was an instant purchase for me as soon as it was released. I didn’t need to play the demo to know that this would be a top-quality game that included all the elements that I enjoy when playing. I own every game that this developer has released, and I think there was maybe only one that didn’t hit the mark. IMHO, this is probably one of the best games ever from this developer and they have created several series over the years. If you are looking for some great games to play, do a search here on BFG and try some of the other games this developer has created. Even though the Crystal Tear was an instant buy for me, please try the demo to see if it is a game you will enjoy. Happy gaming! Show less

The story was predictable but with a twist or two, so kept my interest.
Hidden Object Games are nicely designed, beautifully crafted and interesting.
Not a fan. Mini games are varied, some time wasters, some rather entertaining. Spare me the click, click, click a number of boxes to obtain an accurate picture. Annoying and time to find new challenges that are realistic.
I got tired of the head that collects the tears, very pretty but could have been more interesting, maybe evolve from a head to a full body, something a little different each time. A talking head gets old quickly.
The mini game at the end was frustrating and a poor choice and as usual after spending time in an enjoyable picturesque adventure with delightful scenes and scenery, it ended too quickly. Build the tension, give us a reward and surprise at the end! Make us clamor to want more of your productions.
I purchased this game based on the trial and I was not disappointed. A long game, with loads of tasks, entertaining and well worth the purchase. Gave me what seemed like hours of fun. Stopped several times so there was enough game left to go back and enjoy some more. Good job developers. Looking forward to more games like this! Show less

Lovely! A quick moving game with twists and turns on an old plot that had me giggling!
Loved the length of this game and had fun right to the end.
Different kind of plot from doom and gloom but with a nice mystery throughout.
Good job 4 friends!

Completed Game approximately 7.5 hours
(including completion of all mini-games & CE Bonus Chapter)
21 Scene Locations +8 CE Bonus Chapter
Difficulty Range: Beginner-possibly Intermediate
Anna Dupre and Jannet Carrel have been best friends since childhood. Every year they plan a best friend get-together, a tradition they both look forward to all year long. This year, Anna has planned a very special event that combines Anna and Jannet's tradition, with the Crystal Kingdom's traditional Ball. Unbeknownst to Jannet, Prince Nicholas will propose to her best friend by placing the traditional Glass Slipper upon Anna's royal foot, unbeknownst to the Royal Family, this tradition has been cursed to become crystallized just like Cinderella's Glass Slippers!
Collectibles/Morphing Objects: (CE version only)
Each scene has 2 of those famous 4Friends Opaque Collectibles that are really well-blended into the scenery and one of my personal favorite collectibles overall. (my all-time favorite CE feature are non-linear morphs from the original DP series) There are 58 Opaque Mice which unlocks 7 Crystal Mice when you find 6-12-21-30-39-48-58 Opaque Mice. Each scene also has a Morphing Object, some of which are well-hidden and challenging to spot at first glance. There is an available pull-out Tab that tells you how many morphs & collectibles remain in each scene.
Gadget/Helper:
There is a Clock Gadget named Celeste who is the Keeper of the Crystal Kingdom. Celeste requires a Crystal Tear in exchange for an Anti-Magic Sphere, to break the spell cast by a sorceress, upon the Royal Family members who have been cursed, including your best friend. Each time you offer Celeste a Crystal Tear, she enlightens you with the backstory of the tear's owner. After receiving the Sphere, you must "fight" the animal that ensnares the royal member via a Match 3 game, collecting the correct animal prints against your opponent. The Celeste Gadget is used 5 times to "fight" a Wolf, a Fox, an Owl, a Squirrel, and a Bear, and she also gives you Anti-Magic Powder for the Crystal Tears of Cinderella and the Princess.
Hidden Object Scenes:
There are 22 Hidden Object Scenes +7 in the CE Bonus Chapter and a ton of smaller zoom zone hop's. There are Interactive List Finds, Silhouetted Shape Finds, Keywords in Sentence Finds, Replace Items, and Spot the Difference Finds available. There are no alternate puzzles offered.
Mini-Games:
There are 38 Mini-Games +11 in the CE Bonus Chapter and several Pair-Matching tasks. This is one of my favorite developers, and I hope they read this review because I'd like to throw a word of cation their way concerning their mini-games. Avid HOPA fans are also avid reviewers and clearly have picked up on the fact that the mini-games are all recycled from one game to the next. The games in The Crystal Tear are the same games in Mark of Fate, and the same games offered in basically all their other series. They have included the same Gadget as well, where you have to feed the gadget a crystal tear to learn the backstory. When everything is the same from one game to the next, avid fans are going to notice, and we have noticed according to the reviews. How many fans didn't bother to download this game after reading the reviews? I'm just hoping the devs will realize that they may be turning off a lot of regular players because of the lack of new games and features...sometimes the story alone isn't enough to tip the scales!?!
Bonus Chapter: (CE version only)
Rewind the clock 40 years and delve into the Fairy Godmother's origins in this somewhat lengthy bonus chapter that takes place over 8 Scene Locations. There are 11 Mini-Games, 3 pair-matching games, and 6 Hidden Object Scenes. Celeste doesn't make an appearance, however, there is a Magic Book gadget that is used a couple of times that includes a small mini-game of tracing lines. and you will continue searching for the final 16 Opaque Mice and 8 Morphing Objects which will unlock the final 2 Crystal Mice.
Collector's Edition Version Extra's
8 Wallpapers,13 Concept Art Pictures, 5 Screensavers, 5 Music Soundtracks, 34 Movie Video Cutscenes, 24 Achievements (9 achievements are available in 3 category progressions) 18 Replayable Hidden Object Scenes, 19 Replayable Mini-Games, 58 Opaque Crystal Mice (2 per scene) 29 Morphing Objects (1 per scene) 6 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter and a Built-In Strategy Guide.

The development team at 4 Friends Games did a decent job with their brand new installment in the dazzling Living Legends series! The development team at 4 Friends Games did a decent job with their brand new installment in the dazzling Living Legends series! Anna Dupre and Jannet Carrel are childhood best friends and they look forward to their annual reunion at the Crystal Kingdom. But this year’s reunion is a special one, as Prince Nicholas plans to propose to Anna. Unbeknownst to them, this also triggers the Fairy Godmother’s forbidden magic and turns them into crystals. Can Jannet save her best friend from this dark curse in Living Legends: The Crystal Tear???
Just like the incredibly popular Dark Parables series, the Living Legends series also has a knack for twisting well-known fairy tales into fresh thrilling storylines IMHO. This eighth installment gives a new spin to the timeless classic that is Cinderella. Although the game reuses some familiar HOPA story tropes, its rich characters and strong backstory elevate it above the standard.
This is also helped by the game’s fantastic visuals. All the scenes are flawlessly drawn, colored, and animated – making them so captivating that they are hard to look away from. The game perfectly captures the core enchanting spirit of fairy tales through its visuals, along with its equally-magical musical scores and sound effects without being repetitive.
Fans of 4 Friends Games will also be delighted to find that the developer’s proven creativity is put to good use in Living Legends: The Crystal Tear. While none of the gameplay elements are truly revolutionary, the imaginative hidden object scenes and puzzles are enough to engage and entertain long-time HOPA fans. The game also includes a talking clock gadget named Celeste, which tells you a piece of the backstory every time you offer it a crystal tear. This is, to be real, a little creepy and unnecessary, but at least it is not as annoying as some of those other gadgets that come with repetitive mini-games.
Living Legends: The Crystal Tear has a fair length which I completed in roughly four hours, with an additional hour for the bonus chapter. The Collector’s Edition(which is what I purchased) is packed with extra bling, including a strategy guide, wallpapers, screensavers, concept art, soundtracks, videos, re-playable hidden object scenes, re-playable mini-games, achievements, collectibles, and morphing objects.
I really enjoyed this latest endeavor by 4 Friends and perhaps you will too. Cheers!

Played the whole demo and it was a no buy for me. I have six of the others in this series and enjoyed those.
The play in this game is repetitive and feels a lot like busy work versus game play.
The graphics are good, the voice overs are not so great, the music is repetitive.
The story line is not well defined.
I don't recommend this game.

My second thought was ‘where is the Match 3 option for the HOS?’ - I am so tired of doing what seems like dreary housework to find objects in a pile of stuff. My third thought was ‘I don’t want movies playing and voices speaking to me every few minutes’. My fourth thought was ‘developers must think we don’t have brains’ -even on the hardest setting there were a lot of hints, and the puzzles and the game play -which is mostly find an object and put it in place - were too easy. Where are the games that make you think - like The Cabinets of Doctor Arcana? I am so discouraged that there aren’t many challenging games being developed, and that there isn’t a decent system for sorting through games for difficulty level. Why not have a beginner, intermediate, and expert sorting system? I spend a huge amount of time trying to find a decent game, and get interested when a poster mentions there are too many puzzles, but people’s opinions about what makes a good puzzle obviously varies a lot. Please, BF, start sourcing a few thinking games so we aren’t stuck with roll out one a day cookie cutter lookalikes that are tedious to play. Show less
