I agree with Sunnyglow on all counts of this new edition of Paranormal Files, so far. Being little more than half-way through the game, I find it very engaging and with no disappointments. It is easy to like Rick Rogers and follow him on these interesting cases as he puts his expert detective skills to work. I agree with Sunnyglow on all counts of this new edition of Paranormal Files, so far. Being little more than half-way through the game, I find it very engaging and with no disappointments. It is easy to like Rick Rogers and follow him on these interesting cases as he puts his expert detective skills to work. I, too, am happy to see a female character at Rick's side, helping to solve the mystery of the sand monster and the Mayan artifact.

The story is much to my liking since I love games that involve expeditions and discoveries, they are amongst my favorites. In this particular one, it certainly doesn't hurt to be traveling along with Rick and his "sidekick" if you are looking for a quality storyline.

I don't know how long it will take me to finish, but I never hurry while playing, so as usual it will be quite a lengthy good time. It was great to find such entertaining HOPs and games here. Normally, I do not care for mini-games but I am actually enjoying these. Also, nice to discover from Sunnyglow that there is a substantial number of HOPs to keep me happy to the end.

The graphics are very sharp, great color. The characters as usual, in Rick's investigations, are rendered very nicely. I have never felt slighted with the extras included in the CE Editions of Paranormal Files and I don't really mind if collectibles are sometimes easy to locate. It's still fun looking for them, plus I like the added fun of trying to earn as many achievements as possible. The extra little challenges are a good addition. I enjoy the Secret Room in games, too.

I'm also hoping for a good adventure within the Bonus Chapter, and purchasing "Paranormal Files: Trials of Worth" is proving to be a very good decision. I recommend this game for paranormal fans and Rick Rogers fans. Hopefully, you will enjoy the demo and go on to even more entertainment with the entire game. Show less

A lot of fun in this one for some unusual reasons. We play as Rick Rogers, the greatest paranormal detective in the business and if you don't believe that he'll tell you so, you don't even have to ask. Of course, every time he does, he gets his comeuppance, which is part of the fun of the game. Full marks for creative writing in this one with twists that make it much less predictable than the average straightforward quest game. At times it's a real - ahem - out of body experience. We have a particularly strong supporting cast and voice acting that is up to the challenge.

Pros: generous game length, plenty of puzzles and HO scenes, excellent graphics. A twisty mystery plot that has our hero alternately aided and betrayed by nearly everyone. Rick prevails, of course, or does he? Great art and immersive music.

Cons: the main plot twist either works or it doesn't for the individual player's tastes. No spoilers, but it's really nicely pulled off by the voice acting. If you can't laugh at Rick you'll probably end up hating him.

Bonus game: more generous game length, we get to play as Rachel here, whose ambiguous motivations and ambition come through very well. More great graphics and puzzles. It may be that we'll be seeing more of Rachel...

Overall, a whole lot of fun. One gets the impression it was for the writing team as well. I had the privilege of beta-testing this one and the Devs came through with flying colors. Can't wait for the next installment. Show less

Very good game.
It is a good game but the first ones were better which makes ratting this game so hard. It is better than most games on here but seems I'm ratting it against the first ones in the Paranormal Files series which is a little unfair I guess.
The story line is a little weak compare to the others but still interesting.

It seems like it was a little easier but I may be getting better since I have been playing Fish games for a handful of years.
I don't really get into to these Paranormal type games but this series is well above the rest to me.
Paranormal ,mystery ,who don it type. The one that just try to scare you I don't like.
Bonus chapter is good with it being different.
Try the demo and if you like the rest is much the same. Show less

Excellent entry. At first I was worried it was going to be another short elephant game since there was only 3 parts, but each part is quite lengthy. Plenty to do, decent challenge, great graphics, excellent story.

I recommend this game!

This was a pleasant surprise! A twisty original story with two equally important protagonists. Every step was logical and led forward. The off beat humour and stronger than usual characters are what really set this apart. Capped off with a great bonus game that really completed the jigsaw...with maybe one missing piece to justify a sequel. Good fun!

3 Chapters Plus a Bonus Chapter – Strategy Guide: 40 pages (My time: 7 hours)

Join Rick Rogers, paranormal detective, on his next exciting case! An expedition into the land of the Maya has uncovered some legendary artifacts with amazing powers. Now a sand monster has been unleashed by one of these artifacts causing those who encounter it to enter a catatonic stupor. This newest adventure will take our roguish hero and his companion, Rachel, through some trials in search of the truth about these ancient relics. Join the quest as they search for a way to save those who have become victims of them. After this adventure, hopefully Rick will have some empathy for women, seeing things from a female perspective!

This is another fantastic game within this series. The story is well-written. I enjoyed the tongue-in-cheek humor, which I feel, added some levity to the game. There is a nice rapport between Rick and his cohort, Rachel. This is a must-have for those who love adventure games and/or those who more want more HOP scenes than puzzles within their games. The game has a more modern look to it with the appearance of drones, gaming devices, and other technical apparatus.

The collectibles are glass globes which contain all the twelve (12) characters from the game. There are also an equal number of morphing objects and all-seeing eyes. There is one of each in every scene. I found them easy to locate. At the end of the game a secret room opens to display a jigsaw puzzle to be played.

There are more HOP scenes than puzzles within the game. There are twenty-six (26) HOP scenes, some which I would consider mini-HOP scenes with a small number of items to locate. Fifteen (15) of these can be replayed at the end of the game. Most are creatively designed, some with amazing graphics. All are interactive. I feel these are some of the best HOP scenes I have played in some time. They include the usual lists of items and silhouette scenes; however, there are also matching, some storybook scenes, and one spot-the-differences scene in the bonus chapter.

There are twenty-one (21) puzzles within the game. Thirteen (13) of these can be replayed at the end of the game. I found most easy, which should appeal to those who want an enjoyable easy game. In my opinion, the HOP scenes are better constructed and more creative than the puzzles in this game. Nevertheless, there are some amazing puzzles which I enjoyed playing.

MECHANICS:

• Four (4) levels of play including a customized version.
• 22 achievements.
• Collect 12 glass spheres of characters from the game, 26 morphing objects, and 26 all-seeing eyes (there is one morphing object and one eye in each scene)
• 12 Wallpapers along with a screensaver, concept art, and music
• Replay 15 HOP scenes and 13 puzzles
• Secret Room which opens a jigsaw puzzle at the end of the game

BONUS CHAPTER: It is an addendum to the main story. Join Rachel Cowell, professor of history, in her quest to gain the key to Knowledge through the Trials of Worth. This story occurs at the same time as the main game but concentrates on Rachel’s experiences as she and Rick enter these trials. I felt the story and graphics comparable to those from the main story. To me, it is a welcome addition to the game and worthy of the collector’s edition designation. There are five (5) puzzles and seven (7) HOP scenes.

SPOILERS: HERE ARE SOME OF THE PUZZLES AFTER THE DEMO:

A. Physical puzzle. Click on red and yellow items before they hit a center slot on the screen.
B. Lock puzzle. Using fingerprints on a lock, enter the code
C. Switch puzzle. Switch light bulbs so each is in a lantern of the same color.
D. Connection puzzle. Connect stars (dots) to create constellations from a given diagram
E. Assembly puzzle. Follow directions to make a ritualistic potion.
F. Final puzzle. Card game. Play against the Guardian to get 3 Globe cards.
BONUS CHAPTER:
G. Maze puzzle. Follow a given pattern to proceed across a maze from the start to the exit
H. Switch puzzle. Switch stepping-stones until they create an image. 3X Show less
