Some of the simpler ones are okay, but some are just too simple and I skip them.
I personally see no need for tons of options, although a couple of changes would be nice. It would be great to have more pictures, at least 100 or 120 which doesn't seem unreasonable. I would like to view the finished piece of art as a clear picture, presently the pixels are very blurry. Also, more variety of subject matter which would include animals in nature settings, sea life, various art styles such as Art Deco, Art Nouveau, maybe some vintage movie posters. More creative, imaginative pieces to make pixel painting even more enjoyable and rewarding. The color palettes have never been an issue with me, I love the more extensive range of colors but think even more shades and tones would remove the flat appearance of the images.
I am eager to get started with Pixel Art 9 and hope more are available soon. With the paint by number games and colorful, challenging mosaic games, I am definitely a happy camper!! Show less

I love to color and to be able to do it on the computer is ideal if you don't want or have the space to spread out with books and pens, crayons, and markers (which is fun too). Between pixel art and paint by number games I find my zen place to unwind after work whether they're simple or complicated I love them all.
I recommend this game!

I bought the Paint by Number games and heard about Pixel Art in one of the comments posted about one of those. I tried Pixel Art 8, as I assumed the earlier games would not be as good, but ended up working my way back through the series and love (and have bought) every one.
I have seen Pixel Art 10-20 already out on other sites, so I hope BFG will bring them out more often. There is also a Modern Art and Modern Art 2 out by the same developer (the sequel to Paint By Numbers 3), but no sign of them here as yet.
I love the experience of this entire series. It's almost magical to see the colors flow from the tip of the cursor. I get as much fun out of the sound effects as from doing the painting itself, especially the bang sound when I fill in a large area by double clicking. I stopped playing all of my other games and am only playing these now, as they put me in such a nice, relaxed space, it's easier to fall asleep when I'm through with my day.
I find this series is much more "painterly" than the Paint By Numbers ones. In the latter, you have to click on each area to get the color to fill in. In this Pixel Art series, you can slide the cursor over the squares and the color flows from one to the next.
I found that I could zoom in and out by using the mouse wheel, so didn't have to use the zoom slider anymore. I also have a Wacom drawing tablet and love the feeling of painting with that instead of using a mouse. I still have to use the mouse to select/activate the colors because the program doesn't recognize all of the Wacom commands consistently, but I really enjoy zoning out with these games.
It would be nice to have a Gallery feature, where I could view my finished pieces after the fact. As for having to play every game in order, I find the mix good, but after one has completed the first 8 images (on the first page), you can select just the ones you want by selecting "choose level" from the menu and just pick the ones you want.
(Only the first 8 games are locked and don't let you go further until you complete them. I think that's because they contain the tutorials, so it would be nice if one could turn off tutorials, but I usually get through the first page fairly fast. I just ignore the "tips" and move on.)
My only complaint (other than BFG being so slow to bring these out) is that the ocean sounds play at lower volume than the other music, so I had to keep turning the music up and down through the Options screen.
I tried playing other music through a separate player on my computer, but that was too hard on the CPU and the fan kept running a lot, so I ended up streaming music in the background through my browser and turned off the music from the game (but left the sounds turned on) and that seemed to work best for me. In other types of games, I always turn the music off, but in these games, the music is a large part of the relaxing effect they offer.
As someone else noted, you can turn off the custom cursor in the Options and you will get a smaller, pointier one if you prefer working with that. In the Paint By Numbers games, it changes to a tiny hand that has its index finger pointing, and I found that easier to work with in those games, but the fat cursor works fine for me in these. My title says it all. Just wanted to point out that if you click on a pixel with the wrong color, all you need do is click on the right color in the pallet and fix it. Also, if you don't like the very large pointer, go back to Options and click on the button that asked if you want the current cursor. I LOVE these puzzles. Please give us more! This is the best yet. More puzzles with lots of colors (30 colors on many puzzles), works of art, landscapes, and easier ones in between, like bike helmets and furry animals.

I still don't understand why our beautiful artwork is always a single image placed on a drab grey background? I still don't understand why our beautiful artwork is always a single image placed on a drab grey background? Why can't we fill in the entire background with pixels or at the very least choose the color of the background? It just doesn't make any sense to me, these are supposed to be works of art and after several games in the series, you would think the developer would start adding some options?
I also don't understand why some of the images are still so boring, who cares about a cup of coffee, the frog is really cool, a pear, so-so, a majestic butterfly is awesome but then you have to complete 10 really boring fruit or random images to get to the next decent picture. Why do I have to follow the levels, why do I have to go in a specific order? I love the larger, more detailed images because you get a sense of accomplishment compared to the smaller images that can be completed with just 10 or so colors. When a picture has 20-30 different colors it's really fun to watch the scene unfold, little by little, pixel by pixel, besides, it gives you more "in the zone" time to just block out the business of the world and find some zen time :)
I'd still like to see a few options added such as an Undo button, a Cursor option of different widths, a full-color palette for the Background Colors, a full-color palette to choose the color of "shaded" current numbered pixels, and an option to save the completed images as a screensaver or wallpaper, makes sense, right?
There's not a whole lot to have to figure out, it's about as uncomplicated and basic as it gets so as long as someone can recognize numbers, they should be able to play! Pixel Art is a computer version of Paint by Numbers. Each pixel has a number and you chose the corresponding color bubble from the palette (also numbered) on the right side, and you simply left click to fill in all the numbers with the correct color, you can hold the mouse button and swipe through large groupings as well.
There is a Slider Bar that allows you to zoom in & out (there's a "fit" tab as well) you can also move the entire page around by right-clicking and dragging. There is an auto-fill feature that will fill in large groups of pixels in a particular color by double-clicking, but that feature has to recharge after each use, besides, it's more satisfying to color them yourself. The last feature is a slider bar that allows you to change the color of the background, it really only allows you to change the colors in shades of grey to black. To me, it would make more sense to have an entire color scale available on a paint by numbers game though, wouldn't it?
Come join me on the Zen Pixel Art Train, I'll save ya a seat!

I don't know why I find this type of "puzzle" relaxing but I do. That being said, it is very clunky to change numbers. You have to click many times and moving up or down in the sequence requires you to move all the way down or up.

This is one of the worst 'coloring' games I have played. It's not creative at all and the background colors are horrible. It is very hard to pick out the numbers and when you magnify the picture there is no way to move it around. At least none I could find.
I don't recommend this one.
