I reviewed the CE of this game, but the SE will give TM fans all the fun they need with great graphics. The challenge level is quite high on this one if you play in timed. But there is a relax mode.

There are flying carpets this time that travel through the air and pick up resources from unreachable otherwise parts, there are traders that can get quite tricky to work out who to go to first, and another new addition of a raven that collects and does other feats. But a huge warning...he is a major slow poke, so when you are playing you need to get him going quite early. (Just like Mary can drag her feet too if you don't speed her up in the bonus choices). You do get to speed the raven up too, but not until much later in the game.

I noticed in the CE reviews that many thought they also had glitches with the camel trains. It is actually the gameplay being done wrong. You must have clear paths, and you must choose the right ones to move along first etc. That's part of the skill. It is possibly one of the most difficult offerings in this series and beginners may need to try playing relaxed alongside their timed game for a while. I don't mind repeating levels...I am up for it lol.

All our friends are here..Mary and her spells, Max the dog barking away enemies, John fighting all foe, and Gremlin forging items on his anvil.

All in all the devs have continued to up the graphics, the challenge and added new features so it doesn't get old. I must say I don't know how well I would have done without the occasional peep at the CE strategy guide? But see how you go. It is a top class TM. Enjoy! Show less

You still get 8 bonus levels and the mini games in this but not the puzzle pieces , strategy guide plus 15 extra levels.

This is really down to personal taste as they are both worthy.

Check out the CE game for some excellent reviews.

There were a couple of issues that were being brought up regarding game faults.

I have played the levels many times over and I feel that game play is more the culprit here.

Regarding level 28 you need to clear the pathways for the camels plus not leave that till last if going for gold.

Regarding the sands of time , this is confusing some but when you pick up the timer it is important to remember that this does not stop time but puts the timer up top left with your collected item totals.

You then need to click on the timer to activate it. It does tell you that when you first use a timer but it is easily missed.
So as soon as you pick the timer up activate it then do the same when you pick up the others.
I played this level many times and always got my 3 sands of time.
Hopefully this will help.
Try the demo and see what you think. It really is a wonderful game and full credit to Yustas games. Show less

I was so glad this version became available as for some reason the demo of the CE version wouldn't play for me. Within 5 minutes of play I knew it was a buy now. I found it rather trickier than previous ones but that added to the fun factor for me.The choice of play also suits me if I want a more relaxed game.

I recommend this game!

These are the best games this series never disappoints. This one had me scratching my head a few times but I figured it out great challenge lever. I just hate when I finish the game.

I love Egyptian-themed games (and everything else related to ancient Egypt) and I love this New Yankee game. I must admit that these games are beginning to teeter on becoming a bit too difficult for taste because I was having to replay most of the levels in order to earn the Gold Trophy! In fact, I discovered that you pretty much have to queue tasks in a specific order and even then I didn't have much time to spare.

The only thing I felt this game missed the mark on was with John's humor or lack thereof because that sarcastic humor is one of the things that make this series unique. I also wish BF would give credit to the developer, Yustas Games, rather than the publisher on the synopsis, so I'll give them direct kudos for a job well done!

You can play in a Relaxed, Normal, or Expert Difficulty Mode, and there are 42 Achievement Trophies to earn. There are 45 Main Levels, 15 CE Levels, and 10 Bonus Levels, and some of the levels have a Hidden Jigsaw Puzzle Piece to create a Jigsaw Puzzle when complete. Mary is the Spellcaster who uses collected Mana to cast spells that will regrow trees, add extra workers or speed them up, etc.

Like most TM games, you must gather resources and clear paths, such as, gathering food baskets and farming wheat crops, gathering wood logs, chopping down Palm Trees, gathering gold bags, clearing boulders, patching holes, repairing bridges, and constructing or repairing sawmills, or mills to produce more food, build houses for rent, collect gold, and constructing specialty buildings such as the Raven's House who can then fly to unreachable caches.

The workers do almost everything, John is the Knight in Shining Armor and does the fighting, there's always a crew of undead to wreak havoc! Mary is skilled in Witchcraft and takes care of Casting all the Spells but she needs a constant supply of Mana that needs to be collected by the workers from the Mana Wells or from an occasional bottle abandoned along the paths, to work her magic.

The Collector's Edition version has 45 Main Levels, 15 CE Levels, 10 Bonus Levels, 10 Original Music Soundtracks, 42 Cinematics (I read the story via the cinematics and skip the conversations before each level) 4 Wallpapers, 19 Characters, a Jigsaw Puzzle (with 32 Collectible Jigsaw Puzzle Pieces), an Upgrade Room (with an available Screenshot), and a Built-in Strategy Guide.

This game definitely isn't for the faint of heart. I found every level to be quite challenging to earn a Gold trophy on the Normal and Expert Modes. Come join us on my new forum, won't you? thewoodsforum.boards.net Show less

But I've always found New Yankee kind of boring. I've had this game for a couple of weeks and have still not worked my way through it since I only play a level and have to exit because I start falling asleep. Not a good sign. It's pretty typical of the versions that came before with only one or two very slight changes. I think this may be my last time I even bother trying this game.

I don't recommend this game.

I downloaded the trial and tried playing it. It is all black. I can see some buildings and trees but the rest is black. How are you supposed to complete tasks if you can see anything.

I don't recommend this game.
