PROS: Good lip-synch/voiceover

Good storyline
A good eye to detail: For example: At the beginning of the game, where the man is talking. Look at his hands and you can see the outline of his very distinct veins (I don't recall seeing this before in any game, although I could have missed it. I point this out because I used to be an RN, and that is something we, as nurses, always noticed on a person's hand/arm, even after retirement).
A very fun game (so far)
HOS: There were some HOS's that I had never encountered before and they were fun and creative
CONS: It just seems to me to be a game that has a little too much going on. A lot of moving around, going from scene to scene, having to 'charge' the magical wand, etc.,
All in all, a game that I look forward to buying when there is a BOGO sale. Show less

One does search for items in this game but most of the items are used fairly quickly and some what easy to figure out what is to be done. Couple of the puzzles I didn't understand what to do so I skipped them but that is most likely my problem than others.
Good mystery type game with a little make believe in it.

REVIEW BASED UPON THE ENTIRE GAME
7 Chapters Plus a Bonus Chapter – Strategy Guide: 43 pages (My Time: 6 Hours)
STORY: Armed with your magic wand, head off to Taleville to solve another crime. Be certain to pack some sparkles in your ammo bag! As Fairy Godmother, use your magical ability to help your partner-in-fighting crime, Detective Goodwin, locate “Puss in Boots,” a two-bit gambler in need of a stash of cash to pay off his gambling debts. Instead of castles, this game will see you visiting casinos and the seamier side of Taleville.

OPINON: What a fantastic game! To me, this game is better than the collector’s edition offered last week. Domini is my favorite developer and to me, this is one of the best games they have produced this year. I love this detective series and the ingenious way the developer uses fairytale characters to set the story within these detective games.
This is an action-packed game with plenty of activities. I found no errors within this game – the game for me was an easy, smooth play. There are three collectables – morphing artifacts, photos, and poker chips used to purchase items for a Fairy Room. The player receives a gimmicky wand which is charged with sparkles before it is used. Most of the puzzles have the option to be played in either an easy mode for a more casual play or in a hard mode providing more challenge for those who wish it. As with other games, the settings for the puzzles can be set in the menu but can be changed while playing the game.
MECHANICS:
• Four (4) levels of play including a customized version.
• 39 achievements.
• Collect 15 photos and 15 morphing artifacts.
• Collect 63 poker chips to outfit a Fairy Room.
• 10 wallpapers along with concept art, music, and video sequences.
• Gimmicky wand used throughout the game. Charge It with crystals you find within the scenes.
• Replay 18 HOP scenes and 18 Mini-games.
BONUS CHAPTER: Soap Opera Drama! Enter the soapy fairy tale world of Lagoon Island in which you, Fairy Godmother, have been invited to attend the wedding of the Little Mermaid and Prince Leo. Upon arrival, you discover that the bride-to-be’s father, King Newt, has been poisoned. Who could have done such a dastardly thing? As you investigate, enjoy all the drama of a fairy tale soap opera as you discover the culprit behind the crime. Enjoy this amusing melodrama as you compile evidence from the Sea Witch, Snow White, Prince Leo, and the Little Mermaid. I enjoyed this chapter immensely. There is some tongue-in-cheek humor throughout. There are five (5) HOP scenes and eight (8) mini-games. I loved the story in this chapter more than that in the main game. To me, this chapter is long and well-worth the price of a collector’s edition.
HOP SCENES: There are eighteen (18) HOP scenes, and all can be replayed upon completion of the game. I always enjoy Domini’s HOP scenes because they are so creatively designed. There is also a Match-3 game which can be played instead. The game includes standard lists of items and silhouette items. There are also some puzzle-like scenes using cryptic clues and rebus clues. There are scenes where items are located and returned to the scene to be used to collect other items. There is a beautiful mosaic scene featuring Alice in Wonderland with its characters in which mosaic pieces are placed into their proper positions. Another cleverly designed scene involves a globe in which countries and fragments of countries are placed within the globe.
MINI-GAMES: There are twenty-six (26) mini-games, eighteen (18) of which can be replayed upon completion of the game. They are thematic and vary in design and variety. I was thrilled to see a marble popper game for a change. I do not believe I have seen this puzzle in a game for some time. However, the marbles move a little too slow for my taste!
SPOILERS: HERE ARE SOME OF THE MINI-GAMES AFTER THE DEMO: (E = Easy; H = Hard)
A. E/H. Map puzzle. Use a magnifying glass on a map to locate 4 types of leaves. In the hard version you locate them in order presented.
B. E/H. Switch puzzle. On a circular grid, switch two sets of symbols on two circular disks so that each set of like symbols is next to each other. The easy version only has 6 pairs of disks and the hard has 12 pairs.
C. Switch puzzle. Switch the locations of two sets of colored yarn so they are reversed so that the pink yarn is on the right end and the blue yarn is on the left end.
D. Connection puzzle. Rotate tiles on a 4 x 4 grid (16 tiles) so the path segments on the tiles connect in one continuous link.
E. E/H. Rope puzzle. Move light spheres so none of their rays overlap. The hard version has more lights to untangle.
F. Sequence puzzle. Remove interlocked bars in the proper sequence until all are removed.
BONUS CHAPTER:
G. Marble popper game. Shoot marbles onto a moving path of marbles to create chains of 3 or more to remove. Remove all the marbles before they reach the exit.
H. E/H, Moving tiles puzzle. In this case moving chains. Move colored chain segments on a circular grid so each chain is next to one which matches it in color. The hard version has a disk which covers one side at a time.
I. E/H. Connection puzzle. Connect sparkles in a line; however, you can only connect sparkles within the same row or column. The harder version has more sparkles to connect.

It took me a minute because I haven't seen this crime but it starts out with a man holding my purse on the platform while I'm in the subway train holding the cut handles as we are moving. Later my purse is found but my wand is gone.
They have you picking up four items to combine now instead of three. They want you to leave things you pick up in certain spots before you have everything. I think this can be exhausting.
I would like more character interaction and videos to brake up the monotony. I don't understand why some players don't like accompaniment. I don't want to be alone and not talked to in a game. I liked the characters they have in the game but I'd like to talk with them more or do things together.
I liked the stamp, tiled fountain, ocean chalk and fish hops the best. I didn't like the interactive hops or the find pairs behind things. The only mini-games I like was the combined symbols and shooting balls.
You have a magic wand that needs charging by collecting magic spheres.
It has 7 Chapters + Bonus. I collected 63 casino chips to buy things for my fairy tale room. The first thing I bought was the Grandfather's clock, then chair, then phone. Replays on 26 cutscenes, 18 hops, 18 mini-games and 5 music. I found 15 morphing artifacts and 15 photos. Has 10 wallpapers with characters I won't use. The 10 concept art has 3 pictures I would have liked for wallpaper polished up, #1, 2 and 9.
Take a look in the garbage can outside the Tattered Cat Pub.
I liked the game but it could be better without all the collecting and placing. It's a bit much.

Difficulty Range: Beginner
Another story about crime in a Fairytale world and Fairy Godmother solves it single-handedly? I guess my imagination is more creative than this developer's imagination because there's nothing "fairytale-ish" about this game. Sure, Fairy Godmother has a Magic Wand, a wand she manages to lose at the start of the game every single time! It's a Wand that requires finding Magical Whisp Orbs before it can be used, actually, most of the time she steals them for other people's personal belongings...including inside a locked safe! After finding three Whisps, I have to complete a complicated puzzle, so where exactly does the magic come into play here? This game is no different than the last 3 games in the series, it's no different than any other Domini series, such as Fatal Evidence and that game isn't even a fairytale game! This game is no different than the hundreds of games they have given us because they all have the same HO's, the same puzzles, and the same ridiculous, repetitive tasks. I'll take that bet, I did not like this game, and odds are, the best this game can hope for is another average star-rating!
Audio/Visuals:
Domini has always had crisp, detailed graphics even though they struggle with the color palette which tends to have an overabundance of one dominant color for each game. The audio always seems spot on and you'll; probably never notice looped soundtracks, but that's exactly how background music should work, it should go unnoticed while subconsciously stimulating the brain to recognize the ebbs, floes, and climaxes of the storyline.
Gadgets/Helper:
Naturally, Fairy Godmother has a Magic Wand which isn't very magical because it requires finding 3 Whisp's to recharge the Wand after it's been used. The magic wand is used 5 times in the Main Chapter only. Before using the Wand, you will have to solve a puzzle or mini-game, that varies each time...sounds like the "magic wand" is more of a mechanical wand to me?
Collectibles & Morphing Objects (CE Version Only):
It's hard to enjoy a repetitive Collectible offered game after game. Domini seems to be the only kid left on the block so I guess we'll be stuck with the same routines? Once again, there are 15 Morphing Artifacts and 15 Photo's to click on. I say click on versus collect because they are never challenging to find nowadays! There are 63 Zoom Zone Casino Chips that are used to purchase 15 Fairy Room Decorations...because every Fairy wants an armchair and a deer head mounted on the wall? There is an optional Collection Icon Tab that can be enabled or disabled in the settings menu as well and will light up when there is a collectible in the current scene.
Hidden Object Scenes:
There are 13 Hidden Object Scenes +5 in the CE Bonus Chapter and an alternate Match 3 Game available, which btw, doesn't allow you to make consecutive matches quickly. (you have to wait for all tiles to stop falling before you can make the next match which makes the game super boring, not to mention that the M3 boards are always square and they never add obstacles or new features to make it progress in difficulty. The Hidden Object Scenes vary with Listed Item Finds, Keywords in Sentence Finds, Finding & Replacing items into the Scene, Matching Pairs, Silhouetted Shape Finds, Placing Countries onto a Globe, or correctly placing Mosaic Tiles from an Alice In Wonderland scene.
Mini-Games:
There are 18 Mini-Games +8 in the CE Bonus Chapter. You can choose to play them in an Easy or Hard difficulty mode and you can choose which mode to have them start out in the Custom Setting (you can still switch between modes for each individual game) I don't even list my personal favorites anymore because Domini has really stopped putting in much effort with the puzzles now that they seem to be the only HOPA devs on the block. You've played them all, hundreds of times, such as aligning tokens according to a clue with symbols telling you which symbol is <> the next. Map navigation puzzles where you use a magnifying glass to locate leaves, Painting patterns so no identical color touches. Clicking on spheres to place them into slots but touching one affects others. Rotating tiles to align paths, or removing bars in the correct order...these descriptions all sound familiar, don't they?

Bonus Chapter (CE Version Only)
Ding-dong the Wedding Bells are gonna ring for the Little Mermaid and her Prince Charming Leo. This would be a short chapter if nothing went wrong, so naturally, Domini stretched it out by poisoning Little Mermaid's father, King Newt (who is supposed to be King Triton?) The scenes may be beautiful, but in reality, this is just another boring chapter with more repetitive, cliche tasks spanning over 10 scene locations with 8 additional Mini-Games and 5 Hidden Object Scenes, and not a magic wand in sight. You will continue your search for the final 2 Morphing Artifacts, 3 Photo's, and 10 Zoom Zone Casino Coins which allows you to purchase the final Fairy Room Decorations...which have nothing to do with Fairies or Fairy Godmothers??
Collector's Edition Extra's: (CE version only)
10 Wallpapers, 10 Concept Art Pictures, 5 Music Soundtracks, 26 Movie Video Cutscenes, 39 Achievements, 18 Replayable Mini-Games, 18 Replayable Hidden Object Scenes, 15 Morphing Artifacts, 15 Photo's a gazillion Missing Notes, 63 Zoom-Zone Casino Chips, 15 Fairy Room Items (purchase with coins) 7 Main Chapters, +Bonus Chapter, and a Built-In Strategy Guide. but will just have to get over it. I'm not a big fan of the Fairy Godmother series but this story has a little more backbone to it. The old-fashioned Fairy Godmother stuff is more to my liking but maybe this release will prove to be worthwhile. I usually like Domini's creations and may end up buying so I can take advantage of today's sale.
Once again the demo was too full of time-wasting tasks. Skipping puzzles didn't even help get me far enough along to enter the adventure. Needed items were, as usual, found in ridiculous places. I know it is just a game but, seriously, some logic would be much appreciated! However, I was astonished at not having to use an improvised zipper pull to open a bag.
The graphics were nice and sharp. lots of rich color. The artwork could have been better, lacking something that took away from the quality somewhat. The scenes weren't terribly cluttered with things to search through, there were some interactive items. I liked the indoor plants with their blooms. Not much neon going on in the scenes I visited. The characters were well rendered. the voice's weren't hokey and lip movement synced accurately to the words. I really appreciate quality voice-overs. I especially liked Mr. Spellheart's, it was expressive and pleasant, very natural.
HOPs still plagued with the big red X. I played 3 in the demo, good interactivity, average challenge. The Match 3 game had large, clunky tiles but played fine. Puzzles were interesting, seemed not too complicated, but I skipped in the interest of demo time. There was a good balance of HOPs and puzzles, a choice of Easy/Hard for the games which is always a good thing. An indicator bar was available to keep count of the collectibles.
A Magic Wand was the helpful gimmick. It worked without the usual annoying components and quickly supplied the magic to fix the situation at hand. This CE contains the typical Domini collectibles and we have a Fairy Room to decorate this time. The collectibles were easy to spot in the demo but I didn't purposefully look for them.
Fans of this series will likely have a ball with the story involving casinos rather than castles and a human Puss in Boots. Sounds like fun awaits in the seedy side of Taleville! I'm rating 3 stars simply because I wasn't able to play enough of the game to warrant otherwise. Show less
