BASED ON COMPLETED GAME
This game is a literal sequel to the first Letters From Nowhere, in that the first game left us with a cliff hanger, which is continued here. We are given only a skeleton of a backstory, but the story is of no real importance to the game, so you don’t miss much If you haven’t played the other.
This is a pure HOG, not a HOPA and has only HOPs and other simple ones. The gameplay is different from other games, but the same as the first game.
*Each episode consists of a number of HO scenes, and you get a list of 12 items to find in each.
*There is also one puzzle per episode, which can turn up anywhere in one of the HO scenes.
*Each location also has 3 stamps to find and a black cat. These unlock unlimited HOs and puzzles from the game.
*There are also points and achievements to get.
*There are a total of 32 scenes, each visited 3 times, but they don’t get boring.
There are also bonus items we can ‘buy’ (with points) to help. After buying them, they will be added to the HO scene, but we will still have to find them to use them.
*Thermometer - indicates “hot spots” in the scene for a short time.
*Surprise – a mystery bonus, e.g. 10 000 bonus points.
*Camera – a brief flash of the scene with all the remaining items highlighted.
*Palette – the list is transformed into a series of pictures of the remaining items.
The graphics quality is very good, and the animations are nicely done. This game is a bit darker than the first, with a lot more creepiness and black magic. I like the music and the voiceovers of the characters is good.
This is a very good HOG. If you don’t go into it expecting a HOPA, it is a very good game indeed. Show less

Happy to finally figure out what happened to Patrick. If you haven't played the first Letters from Nowhere, you don't have to play it to understand what's going on, but I definitely recommend buying it to get more of the picture on how the story has gone so far. I found it a little darker than the first with the same spooky music but with a few tweaks to make it even spookier and it had an overall darker feel to it. Along with the bonus items for purchase at the beginning of the chapters as well as the stamps in each HO scene, there is also a black cat and by finding them, you'll get achievements. There is incentive to find all the stamps as once you find enough stamps, you'll unlock an unlimited mode which will give you modified HO scenes to play. If you enjoyed the first one, this one is a must buy to see how the story ends. Show less

I have been playing this game for years. I would say I am obsessed. Even though I am blind in one eye, I can still play the game easily. The graphics are colorful. This game is a simplistic hidden object game with a story line. I would like to see Letters From Nowhere 3!! New and different locations would be cool!

NEW SCENES! You have lost your husband and you must continue to try and find him! Solve the mystery…It does get into the occult.
GRAPHICS: Really nice looking, with natural colors. I loved diving into the different scenes, all kinds of rooms and outdoor spaces. The scenes are different and new to the first game. Fullscreen. Some items are very small, very well hidden and blended. If you need all the objects to be very clear, don’t play this game. I didn’t get eyestrain, but I was pulling the computer towards me on many occasions. I recommend max brightness for your computer screen.
HOPS: HOPS ARE the entire game. You get each scene 2 sometimes 3 times. But there are tons and tons. You can swap between different HOPS within the same chapter by selecting the ‘postcard-type’ icons in the lower right corner of the screen.
PUZZLES: There is usually a puzzle thrown in DURING the HOPS. 1 or 2 per chapter. Mostly straightforward.
SOUNDS: 2. Music separated. Great! Voice over and background sounds are good.
HINT: Takes 30 sec to recharge. No choice of difficulty, there is only 1. One problem with the hint is that during the HOPS, it will only circle 1 item, when 2 are required for interaction. The other 1 remains lurking! This was solved by using a “walkthrough”. Google “walkthrough for Letters from Nowhere 2” and it will appear. Because the game is chaptered, it was very easy to look up specific help.
MAP: Not required.
INVENTORY: NONE
JOURNAL: NONE
CHARACTERS: Mainly story told by lady searching for missing husband. No lip movement. But great voice-over.
EXTRAS:
*** Every “so many points” you get a choice to buy a “souvenir/bonus” which will be hidden for you in all the scenes of that chapter. Find them and they do different things to help you gain points and find objects! So much fun
***Unlimited mode: achieved for HOPS on 50 stamps and for puzzles, after 32 black cats. You can go back over the HOPS to collect any missing cats.

The storyline is intriguing, and the hand-drawn graphics suit it well. The music is also quite fitting, and wonderful. But this is primarily a Hidden-Object-Scene (HOS) game. In other words, while the story is actually more than just an "excuse" to present a whole slew of HOS's, the number and variety of these HOS's would delight a HOS-lover to no end. Thus, there are no long dialogs, no cutscenes. Once in a while (usually once per episode), you will see two characters drawn over a HOS, and a short dialog will occur between them. Otherwise, you just go from one location to another, solving HOS's, with a puzzle occasionally appearing in one or more locations within the HOS itself.
Note: All the puzzles are pretty easy. The HOS's, however, can be rather challenging. For one thing, while the graphics are quite suitable to the storyline, they are not as vivid and crisp as you see in the HO games these days, making it difficult to spot many HO's in the scene. In addition, the size of the objects can be quite deceptive. Thus, a small object (like a nut, bolt, or bulb) may appear to be a lot bigger in the scene than something (like a guitar, for example) that is actually much bigger in real life .
As difficult as it may be to find some of the hidden objects, however, it is often far more difficult to find the STAMPS we need to collect, both to unlock the game's Unlimited Mode and to win several Trophies. Specifically, there are 31 locations in the game. Each has 3 stamps and one BLACK CAT. You must collect these cats also, to win some Trophies. Collecting 50 stamps unlocks the Unlimited Mode. But you need to find 32 Black Cats to unlock the Puzzle Mode. You will find the last Black Cat, as well as the last 3 Stamps, in the 32nd location, which is a "Secret Location" that is unlocked only after you finish the game, and appears in the Unlimited-Mode section of the game.
I can go on and on, describing the various facets of the game, it is just so *rich* in strategy as well as gameplay. But I will stop and let you discover the rest on your own. I do want to strongly advise you to check out the "Help" section, found in Options in the Main Menu. It is only a one-page description of all the bonuses and some other useful information about the game. Note, however, the one critical thing it does *not* mention is that you actually lose points (2,500) every time you use a Hint to find an object in a HOS. But you really don't even need to use the Hint (and can thus even get a Trophy for not doing so!), because you can use the points you have accrued to purchase three of the four bonuses that are actually designed to help you find items in a HOS.
I would also advise you to check out the Trophy section of the game, *before* starting the game itself, because there is at least one trophy that can be won only at the beginning of the game. All the stamp-like boxes in the Trophy section will appear blank, of course, because you have not yet won a trophy. Just move your cursor into the various blank boxes, to see what you need to do to win those Trophies.
In short, if you are a HOS-lover, you should really enjoy this game. I hope the information I provided will help you off to a running start, and enhance your gaming experience.
Good luck! :) Show less

Lovely detailed graphics, great environmental sounds, good atmosphere, excellent game play and intriguing storyline. I'm in the middle of playing it again. If you play it again, they bring all the trophies that you gained during your first game, into your next game. It's just all hidden object scenes, one after the other, so if you like that kind of thing, you'll like this. There is one little puzzle in each HOS to add some spice. It's very much like the first game and this one is the sequel. The first game leaves you on tenderhooks and this one picks up very seamlessly from the last. It also has the same consistancy and game play as the first. The ending is also very good, very satisfying. They give you your money's worth, in terms of quality, length of game, storyline and ending. Show less
