The good :
excellent story keeps your attention from begging to the very end( by finding VHS tapes you reveal part of the story)
nice graphics, lots of interesting locations( almost every location has light and dark side, so basically by switching lights on or of you have two different locations in one)
challenging puzzles, mostly brainteasers
hidden object scenes- 2 types- standard( find listed objects) and one where you have to find right place for displayed objects
the bad:
no map
constantly consulting your journal for codes and similar
music is annoying, a bit monotone

Storyline: Game is about investigating a supernatural force behind the disappearance of people in a city. You will meet a few of those mysterious dark forces very briefly.
Gameplay: Game is a Reverse HOS (put objects where they belong in the HOS), with some animation. [If you see a skeleton, click it.] Objects are nicely sized and not merely peeking out from behind some other object. Graphics and sound effects are good.
Different: Game differs from others in that you open or close curtains to change the illumination of 4 locations (hotel, hospital, sheriff, museum), which is really changing from the “now” to “sometime in the past.” The differences are dramatic and you only close/open the curtains in the first room in each location. Changes in the past affect the present and vice versa. The last 20% of the game is in one illumination, and there are popup clues about when to change illumination so you don’t wander around for half an hour trying to find something because it’s not in that environment.
Limited traveling to the 4 locations, with 3 of the environments having only 3-4 rooms each. Variety of puzzles and mini-games which vary in difficulty. One cool thing: There are a few flipping games to get all the lights on, or variations thereof. You can restart the mini-game as often as you want, if you get so stuck that you’re dizzy and ready to give up. 30 minute skip penalty.
SE vs. CE: I would recommend the CE. 2 bonus games continue the story: you are saving the sacrificed residents of the city in new locations and trying to cleanse the city from any residual dark forces in the same locations as the main game.
TIME: The main game took me just over 5 hours. The bonus games added 3 1/2 plus. Show less

The best of this game is when scenes modifying (you have to do "something" for that) , returning to the past. The special effects are very interesting to see.
- Very good storyline
- Great locations
- Very sood sound
- Graphics are very well done, with care in details
- Several differents puzzles and HOS - not really challenging, but very entertaining and pleasant.
I recommend this game!

Spooky games are usually set in a haunted house, asylum, cemetery, etc. but this one is set in a deserted town that morphs into a creepy Central American village when it gets dark. This makes it even eerier than the typical game because it's such an unfamiliar setting.

Graphics have a grainy look to them and the music is not very good and seems out of place. A haunting soundtrack with Central American melodies and instruments would have added so much to the atmosphere! The morphing of rooms from modern day to the Central American village is very well done, though. The short videos that reveal the back story are great too.
Puzzles are very good. They're fun, more challenging than average and there's more originality compared to other games of the genre. Show less

Moving room to room required quite a bit of backtracking. Suggest taking notes to keep track of where you need to use an item once it is found. Appears CE may be worth considering, with two bonus chapters included. Show less

Other reviewers have talked about the story line, etc. Suffice to say that the overall game is challenging; the HO scenes are true to the atmosphere of the game; the mini-puzzles are, for the most part, not overly easy. There was one mini-game for which I didn't understand the instructions and had to use the skip function; next time I play this game - and it does have replay value - I'll check the walk-through if I still don't get it.
There was an interesting twist that I really liked, although other players might find it annoying. Most of the rooms in the game were actually two rooms, one in the present and one in the past. It was necessary to find things in one time frame, and then use them in the other time frame. This was a little confusing at first, but I don't think it caused a huge amount of going back and forth.

I loved Eclipse Mountain so had to try this one too, and I was not disappointed. It's really neat the way you can go back in time by altering the lighting in a room, usually by drawing the blinds. Quite thrilling the way it morphs from a fairly normal (but wrecked) present-day scene to something much more interesting and sinister. There aren't too many Hidden Object scenes - just a few for light relief. You have to travel around quite a bit to find the objects that you need, so you need to remember what you need and where you needed it, because it could be some time before you find it. For me this was enjoyable, as I don't like things too easy. The puzzles were about the right difficultly level, mostly variants on the usual things like Tower of Hanoi, turning rings, pairs etc.
The music is sort of tribal drumming, which belongs well with the scenery.
The monsters are a bit pathetic but the storyline is quite interesting.
Overall, a great game for those who like a bit of a challenge.
