This game is good, very good, this game is fun, lots of fun, this game is permanent enjoyment from the very first scene. So, a vampire story ? Again ? Yes, but this one doesn't really take itself seriously.

This game is good, very good, this game is fun, lots of fun, this game is permanent enjoyment from the very first scene. So, a vampire story ? Again ? Yes, but this one doesn't really take itself seriously.
The characters, starting with Dahlia, are colorful, picturesque, witty. There is an overall and omnipresent sense of humor that keeps spicing up the adventure, either overtly or transpiring through small details here and there. The dialogues, well worded, pertinent, incisive and funny, are worth not being skipped.
Quite a bit of imagination, too, from the developers, even though the substructure is fairly classical.
The minigames are original and fun to play, the puzzles entertaining and not difficult, even though the game is not loaded with them, but this is largely compensated by the rest.
Each HOS is manageable without getting a headache (unlike in some other games) and they, too, are fun in spite of a hint system which, I agree, is a bit vague.
With a pretty solid storyline based on a very original idea, the game takes you on a quest for a sun lotion amidst a war between vampires.
But rest assured, although blood comes up often there is nothing gory about it all.
Spooky ? Yes. In the right amount. Morbid ? No, and that's a performance nowadays.
Bouncing back and forth from location to location is no hassle thanks to the map; just click where you need to go, another nice feature that you don't find in many HOGs; they all force you to backtrack anyway but not often the easy way.
The song in the intro is surprisingly good for a game.
You don't have to be a fan of Charlaine Harris to enjoy Dying for Daylight, you only need to like good games. As for me not only am I going to start probing her books, but I am also definitely buying the game - as this review is based on the demo.
Needless to say that I am already looking forward to Chapter 2 as soon as it is released, since this first installment contains only the first 4 Episodes [which, by the way explains why the game is shorter than one would expect].
A well deserved 5 star rating from me. Show less

PLUS SIDE = I am not really into vampires, so wasn't sure I would like this game. But when the music started playing, the opening song made me smile and tap my feet, and drew me into the game. Then the lead character Dahlia started talking in her sassy snarky way, and I was hooked. Gotta love her and her mouth. This game is fun! And I love doing dress-up mini-games!

This game has everything I require of a game, it was a fun and clever story, the puzzles were challenging but not ridiculously unintelligible, voice actors were good and did not sound as if they read prior to.

For those of us who have read Harris's novels, it is fun to walk around in her world, but also for those who have not read a single one of her books is the gaming experience ...Show more

Above all, it was a fun gaming experience where everything worked out.

If you understand that you're only getting Part 1 of a two part game, this is AWESOME! Honestly, it's my favorite game.

The graphics are visually stunning. The story/dialogue is witty and fun. The comic book styles sections are beautiful and so well done. The game is pleasantly challenging and full of entertaining missions.

This game is full of fun. The characters are fun and clever. I really liked the comments that Dahlia makes. The story is great and I hadn’t heard of Charlene Harris but am now a fan of her books as well. The visual of this game are great and immersive. The puzzles were challenging but do-able with a little work. I can’t wait for the next installment of his game.

I recommend this game!

In my opinion, Dying for Daylight is one of the most entertaining PC games out there and Daliha has got to be one of the most animated, sexy and funny character I have come across. With great graphics, brilliant voice-overs and excellent game mechanics, this game makes you want more. It has been over a year and still many of us are anxiously waiting for a sequel which according to the rumor mill is still not inthe works. The story is the creation of of Charlene Harris (Creator of True Blood), and the developers have done a top notch job in bringing her to life. This game is a great HOPA, heavy on the adventure with interactive HO scenes, great minigames and puzzles. You come across many whacky characters and as the game moves along, you find yourself being immersed into Daliha's World. A very sexy game and hope that there will be more. Show less

This review is based on a complete playthough of the game.

First, let me get this out of the way. There is no part 2, nor is there likely to ever be. It doesn't matter. This is a complete story as is. Just pretend the <to be continued> at the end isn't there. How many stories do you love where the hero walks off into the sunset into another adventure?

Some great features for a SE - an optional mini-game, reviewable movies, and 'trophies' you can find along the way (I'm pretty sure some are missable). There is a misclick penalty, but nothing terrible. HO scenes are fairly straight forward with a bit of 'interactivity'. Scenes are repeated with different objects.

The puzzles are more of the 'point and click adventure' type rather than the usual HOPA fare (making this a HOPaCA?). Very logical. Items are used intelligently and often not immediately discarded.

THE GOOD: The story is incredible. Interesting characters, quirky humor, family friendly with nods and winks to the grown-ups. Fun, fun, fun.

The game took me about 5 1/2 hours to play, taking my time and working through everything. I did get stuck twice and resorted to the walkthrough. If the story wasn't so good I might have put the game aside and come back to it to solve later - I wanted to keep going.

The best music I think I've heard in one of these games. I love that theme song (not hard to find file). Even the 'ambient' sounds and general game music didn't get repetitive or annoying.

The graphics are flash animation comic book style, and for this game IT WORKS! That's the only thing keeping this game from getting straight 5's from me, but I'm honestly not sure that doing it in FMV would have made it better. Sometimes you have to choose the medium that fits the work, and they did that well here.

THE BAD: Not much. The parts I got stuck on were simply me missing things. The ending was a bit abrupt, and left some loose ends I would have liked to see tied up, but that's where the planned sequel came in. It's still a complete ending, and everything made sense, which is more than I can say for a lot of 'complete' series in media (not just games).

THE UGLY: Dahlia's not my girlfriend in this game :(
Seriously, the game, the characters, everything is beautiful.

BOTTOM LINE: Wholehearted recommendation, this is now one of my favorite games, and one I'm sure I'll replay more than once down the road. Easily makes my top five, maybe even top 3. Far better than most CE games I've played. Well worth it at full price, and an absolute steal if you ever see it as a DD or CotW. Show less

The real challenge of the game was what to do next and where to go next. I think that took up most of my time.
I wish I had more of a choice when to use the vampire powers in the game. I think I have seen that in other vampire games.
The music got pretty annoying for me. I had to turn it completely off.
I can't wait for the sequel to be released. I hope it won't be a year. Show less
