The timeless, Istanbul mansion was originally inhabited by the Vizier to the Empire. As the years passed, his family became the subject of many rumors. Among those are murmurs of a great betrayal and an ancient curse afflicting the mansion and the family within. Time dragged on and the stories of the Vizier and the ancient curse faded from memory. Ownership of the mansion passed from person to person until one day, the mansions current owner decided to restore the old building and turn it into a great hotel. An older style game with lots of HOP's and a great story line--which is a lot more than I can say for many over-rated tinsel and sparkle games we gamers are constantly barraged.

This game is not bad at all. The only issue I had was if you sign out after playing a while you have to start from the beginning.
I was into the game & was able to play right on through until the man showed up stating the seal wasn't in the house treasury.
Now, I have to start from the beginning to find out where the seal is! Visuals aren't bad just a silhouette tapestry way of ho's.

The only exciting feature this game has to offer is being able to activate your webcam to accommodate for body movement, panning left and right. To be perfectly honest, I didn't bother to activate this feature, and it was a justified decision. The story begins long ago when the Sultan received a seal that will make your wishes come true, eventually. The Grand Vizionaire was supposed to guard the seal but it was stolen and never recovered, leading most people to believe that the Grand Vizionaire was responsible and that his family is still in possession of the seal today. Fast forward to today and you are sent to this family mansion to repair the grand clock during a restoration to turn the mansion into a hotel.
I really don't mind games that have nothing but HO's and puzzles, but I hate HO's that make you search for teeny tiny items, or partially hidden items in an entire room. Some of the items are behind cabinet doors that you aren't even aware opened. The mini games aren't difficult, which is a good thing because there aren't any instructions given other than a very brief description that shows up only once when you first click on on the gears.
The graphics are gold and glittery, and there's absolutely nothing in this game to motivate you to progress. Sorry, it's a definite no for me. Show less
I don't recommend this game.

First, a confession: I managed to get through only 17 minutes of the demo.
On to business. If someone had told me this game was actually from 2009 - or earlier - I would have believed them, except that airplanes replace hot dogs as the ubiquitous object. They are in virtually every puzzle. There's no ability to select a difficulty level, but that's probably because active areas indicating puzzles - or sometimes just places to pick up an item - sparkle so blatantly that you'd have to be unconscious to miss them, which is good, because the rooms themselves are massive. Without the sparkles, you'd never find the puzzles. Oddly, sparkles go inactive once they've located a puzzle even if you're not able to solve it yet.
As with old games, there's a 'helper' character who stays resolutely in one place and refuses to move; he's supposedly supervising workers. Since there are no workers in any of the scenes, I've chosen to believe that the helper character is suffering from hallucinations.
The graphics are actually quite pretty, but they're highly repetitive. The novelty of searching for objects on a tapestry wears thin pretty quickly, especially since you can pretty much guess what the 'hidden' objects are without referencing the list. In scenes where you're searching a room instead of a tapestry, the game has a frustrating tendency to not indicate when there might be objects that move (such as cabinet doors), and does not distinguish objects that must be discovered in drawers, etc.
The opening storyline narration was clearly written by someone who doesn't speak English as a first, or possibly even second, language, though I was delighted to hear that a background character was "executed to death." (I'm not pro-death penalty, by the way.) The narration also tells us that the missing seal is magical, and guarantees that any wish made with it is granted "sooner or later." The same may be said of my favorite plush penguin; leaving out the time scale greatly enhances a given object's perceived magical abilities.
There is one innovation: you can dispense with the mouse for moving from scene to scene if you have a webcam; you can control scrolling and movement with your eyes. I don't have a webcam, so I can't report on how well this feature works. There is no map indicated open or closed locations or active hotspots (although the game does scold you if you try to go into a closed area), so you'll be doing a lot of side-to-side scrolling.
If this were 2009, or even 2011, my rating would be much higher. If you long for the confusing storylines and stilted graphics of the Cate West mysteries, enjoy extremely repetitive gameplay, and have a fondness for inexplicable side plots, this is the game for you. Otherwise, you'll probably be disappointed.

I couldn't even finish the demo. You go room to room playing HOS. There are no directional hints. Hint only works in the HOS. Seems like something from many years past. I gave up as I couldn't see where this was going. I didn't even like the HOS which were list type. Most of the objects were very easy to find. Items in the tapestry HOS were a little more difficult to find. I just got bored.

Setting: a seal was given to an ancient sultan as a gift. It was rumored to have the power to grant any wish to its owner. But the seal was stolen and though the thief was caught, the seal was not recovered. The sultan's Grand Vizier was suspected of taking the seal, but this was never proven. You have been called to repair the clock at the Vizier's mansion.
Compared to most recent games, the artwork in this one is fuzzy, not sharp at all. It is a pity because it becomes an issue when searching for objects. The regular scenes are wide and you must pan left and right to view the entire area. The instructions tell you that you can use a webcam to do this if you have one installed. However, a mouse works just fine as well.
Play consists of mostly hidden object scenes one after another. They are indicated by sparkles. There is very little else to explore anyway. There are also a few spot the difference. All of these are somewhat challenging, but mostly because of the fuzzy drawing, not because of skill in design.
Music is predominantly piano with other string instruments supporting. I found it to be fairly relaxing. Sound effects were seldom used but appropriate. There are no voices other than the opening narrator, just text for dialog.
I ran into a problem after playing most of the demo. I had collected eight of the nine clock gears, but there was no apparent pending action for me to complete for the ninth gear. In vain I searched all the rooms several times, then finally gave up. The Hint would not recharge as apparently you have to play an HO for that to happen.
Until the point I got stuck, I would have recommended this to lovers of hidden object games. Despite the somewhat fuzzy artwork and slightly clumsy navigation, the game seemed to have potential entertainment value. However as it stands I'll have to pass. I will change my mind if I find out I missed something I should have seen.
Two stars for the potentially, but not Magnificent Seal. Show less
