Caleb the Alchemist was working on a special magic potion when something went wrong, the potion exploded nearly wiping out his entire laboratory! Now he must set out on a quest to find ingredients from around the world to rebuild (and probably blow it up again) starting in the Enchanted Forest. Good news! This delightful Match 3 game has a Relaxed and Timed mode so grab a cup of java potion and join Caleb on a Match 3 adventure.
The goal here is to make matches of at least 3 alike resources over all yellow cells. Some tiles are blocked with chains, double chains, stone and sometimes stone and then chains, which require you to match tiles next to them at least once. The score is then tallied up with the amount of resources you have collected of each ingredient or potion. You can use those ingredients to purchase upgrades in the shop, however large matches put either a bomb, dynamite or lightning on the board automatically. You can purchase upgrades to make these bonuses more powerful.
The Bonuses include a Worm which deletes a number of random chips, a Mushroom randomizes a couple of chips, the Red Potion eliminates a row of chips the Blue Potion eliminates a column of chips, the Green Potion eliminates a cross of chips, the Yellow potion destroys a 5x5 square, the Purple Potion fires a couple of vials at the board and each one eliminates a 3x3 square, a Magic Mushroom shuffles all of the chips, Lightning eliminates all chips of a selected kind, a Bomb upgrades the existing bomb, Dynamite also upgrades the existing dynamite to cover a larger area and the staff removes a single chip.
Before you move onto the next location, you will get to play a mini game such as throwing a staff at gnomes that will randomly pop up, but you have to scroll back and forth to find them before they disappear. I actually loved playing that game just as much as the Match 3, give it a spin around the block and enjoy! Show less

I'm writing this after playing the game end-to-end three times (once timed#. My comment would be to ignore all the assumptions you make about Match-3 games, and see this game differently.
On the issue of "spoiler alerts," let me just say that I am only telling you things a good help page should have told you. No secrets.
First assumption: Finish each level as quickly as possible. Forget that here. The goal seems to be to pick up as many resources as you can. If you don't, you will wait forever for your first power-up #bummer!#. I saw no advantage to playing timed, such as extra credit for playing fast.
Second assumption: Buy power-ups in order. This has been true of almost every Match-3 game I've ever played. Wrong again for this game. Note that all power-ups are available from the beginning #none are locked#. Go to the very end. Surprise! This is where you get to multiply your resource harvest. Try starting with that first. The other power-ups help you finish levels, but that does not really seem to be the goal of this game.
If you can see this game as having little to do with finishing levels, and much to do with multiplying your resource harvests, it turns into a very fun game.
I did not give this game five stars because it was very frustrating to figure out that this is how it actually works. Still, I consider it lots of fun now that I've figured out how to maximize my success. Show less

The main problem with this game is that there are only 4 items (I quit at level 17) and almost every other game features only one or two of these items to collect as you match the items on the grid. It takes FOREVER to get 2000 potions, 1400 of this one, 1500 of this one and 1600 of this one to purchase a single helper. I played in the relaxed mode so I could purposefully remove as many of the items to get points to purchase something. The other thing is that it is hard to find the small mushrooms to zap them...berries are easy, blue stones are easy, potion bottles are a little harder. Music was okay. Could have been a great game (maybe lower purchase prices of the extras), but fell short. A no-buy for me. Show less

There are 105 levels of play. Timed or Relaxed. I played the relaxed (tried a couple of the timed -- seemed to have enough time in lower levels but harder as you go; however, there is a repeat button.) As you match 3 over yellow squares (later over blue then yellow) you break chains, double chains, and blocks. As you match 3 over yellow squares (later over blue then yellow) you break chains, double chains, and blocks. In order to buy power-ups you must gather potion bottles, mushrooms, grapes and jewels. These items are not always on the boards. The hardest to accumulate are the potion bottles. You earn the stick first. The worm is a good first choice, followed by upgrading the multiplier (which goes as high as 5). There are three pages of power-ups with four choices -- keep an eye out for the ones you want to shop. This is the second M3 I have played which sells power ups in the store. Unfortunately, the play is very different from usual M3 in that the power ups are purchased, not earned, and in order to purchase power ups one has to accumulate quite a few specific gems. After one hour, I have about 25% of what I need for the first purchase. The trick, if it is a trick at all, is to play in relaxed mode and avoid winning a level until you have collected as many gems as you can. Of all the gems available on a level, usually only one or two fall into the category of counting for purchasing. I feel that this interrupts the flow of the game, as winning is secondary to collecting, but maybe that is what you prefer. I find it at least relaxing to play a bit at a time and once I can purchase some powerful power ups the collecting goes faster. I can recommend the game but with the caveat that you really need to play it for an hour to see whether this style of play suits you. I just bought it. Show less

The only complaints I have about this game is that you can't actually build the lab, and that it takes too long to get power-ups. I am on level 22 and just got my first power-up.

I chose the multiplier, so now I will get my points that I earn doubled by the number two multiplier, so it should go faster from here, especially if I keep choosing to increase the multiplier. I like this game. It is slow at first, and I wouldn't want it as a steady diet, but the icons are varied, and I enjoy it for a while when I am not doing anything else.
Anyway, if you want to get ahead, at the shop, use the arrows at the bottom and go to the last choice for the power-up and choose to increase the multiplier. I think that is the trick. ;)

After playing for 40 minutes, I had to ask myself, "what's the point?" The game was just boring. This is a pretty basic M3 game with little challenge. I quite enjoyed the peaceful, gentle ping or click with each match, & the music was quite pleasant, most of the time, & even stopped to give you a rest, but if not to your liking you could always turn it right down or off!
It was very relaxing, in relax mode, & matches were easily made for a few levels, but as there were no exciting moments or explosions etc, I am afraid I now have a tendency to nod off, when all you seem to do is click never endingly, to achieve a few points/goals etc
I will continue my trial game, but think in the interest of staying awake, will give it a miss @ the end.
May recommend this for fresh beginners.

I found the background square color very hard to distinguish from the yellow square.. I couldn't tell which squares I was supposed to be clearing . The rest of the game seemed fine - perhaps it's just my contact lenses - but I became frustrated very quickly and deleted the game before the free hour was up. I usually gobble up all match 3 games - but this is a big "NO" for me..
I don't recommend this game.

Sorry, but I just don't like it.
To start with, the cursor action is way too slow and sluggish. That is the first thing I look at when playing M3 games. When it feels like you're trying to run in deep sand, forget it!

You are supposed to be able to buy power ups and so forth, but the whole time I was playing the demo, I did not get enough of each jewel to even come close to buying anything. You need thousands of gems and I had about 30 of each.
I played on relaxed mode, which I always do now for M3s, as I don't like the stress of timed play. Probably, if you play on the timed mode you would earn more points, but still...why have a relaxed mode if you can never get anywhere?
There are way better M3s out there. I don't recommend wasting your time on this one.
