Once again the Final Cut series pays homage to old Hollywood with The True Escapade. With it's unique art deco sets, a design style asssociated with the 1930s, FC continues it's fabulous tradition of highlighting this glamorous era, it's iconic films and birth of film traditions still known today... seen a movie poster lately??
In this installment, we are cut away from Morton Wolfe and his rather interesting children for the first time in the series and into Wolfe Studios doomed productions of The True Escapade. Like all of the classic Hollywood films of that era, it all starts at the beginning with a bit actress named Jane and her father the screenwriter.of The True Escapade. Little did he know, however, that Jane would become the first victim of the film's "curse".
Perhaps the most striking tribute to the golden era of Hollywood comes from the game's self-referential plot in that it is a "who-dun-it" storyline about an old Hollywood script and the mysterious and "accidental" deaths that plague the film's multiple production.
To this end, we have a special feature by way of a fixed plus item; the original script of True Escapade and the pages you will find within the game where changes have been made. This feature drives the storyline as you start putting the mystery and the murder'ers together (yes, of course there's a twist).
The mini-games were equally wonderful and "cinematic". My favorite was the "take cover" game from the bullets being shot at you fthat actually gives you the feeling of going head to head with one of the resident sociopaths. The HOS were absolutely brilliant combining a great variety of HO styles seen the best rated games list on Big Fish (and that's good because there's a lot of them),... morphing objects included. . My favorite was the task of finding hidden objects within the HOS in order to open the hidden object list... (see what I mean by the self-referential theme) and to my delight the opening of each list just kept getting more and more creative. An alternative method to collect items is also offered by way of a match 3 game with icons endemic to the film industry such as film reels, projectors, clap-boards, etc...
Each map scene also has film strips that must be found for an achievement. And keeping with the self-referential theme, you will come across the EIPEX name in a variety of settings as well as old movie posters of other EIPEX games (smile) which was very cool as well as a great advertising strategy in film tradition. The CE has a great bonus game, "the making" of FC, collectables in each scene, an opportunity to improve your score on all the HOS, and play the match 3 option that you may not have gotten to if your preference is to stick to the HOS (like me). You can also replay any of your favorite mini-games as well.
But honesty compels also compels me to add that as a film buff and fan of EIPEX productions, I bought the game sight unseen before reviews were available because I KNEW it would be good... and I was very glad for it.
Congratulations to the EIPEX team and Big Fish games on the latest fabulous installment of the Final Cut Series. Show less

An old studio (great retro graphics, btw) has a series of accidents on set, leading to the deaths of actors and crew. You get to develop film as part of the detective work you're doing and the puzzles are unusual, with HOP's few and far between. You have too much to do to be doing HOP's!

This is your brother's big break, or looks that way until the first death, which looks like your brother did it, followed by a kidnapping so the villain can get his grubby hands on the negative of what has already been shot.
The "Final Cut" games just keep getting better. Visuals are crisp with lots of art deco, VO's are OK, but they don't impact the game IMO, and there is lots to do. There are 40 film strips to find, 13 morphing objects, my favorite, and souvenirs to find. I don't know how many because I never found one.
For some of the HO's you need to find a number of some object, like stars or musical notes. When all are found, an object is revealed that opens another circle with a list of items to find, 3 of this, 1 of that, etc. Other HO's are straight lists. This game is never boring or predictable.
You have a film viewer and when you find slides, you must go to the location shown and find 6 differences. As I said, lots to do. The puzzles are different and challenging, always a plus. There is a jump map, too, which is always a plus. If you play in Casual or Custom, the map may show you where you need to go to do something & the hint will also pop open a picture of where you need to be, and it will take you there, too.
A definite buy for me! Show less

The storyline is excellent and the dialogue is as well. It is truly a suspenseful game. Truly one of the best (and to "moi", they are the best) on this site. The imagery in this game is historically accurate in portraying Hollywood in the 1930's. Below is the outline for the game:
LEVELS: Casual (Sparkles) Expert (Sparkles) (Insane - slow hints and skips) and ABILITY TO CUSTOMIZE THE GAME
LENGTH: Should be able to be played in about 5 to 6 hours.
GRAPHICS : The characters are realistic but the scenes themselves are set in muted tones, adding a nice "art deco " touch.
HOP SCENES: Brilliantly designed and puzzle-like as usual for this dev. Multiple variations of HOP scenes within each HOP scene itself and puzzle-like. Lists of items, search for a number of specific items were in the demo. You can play a Match Game in lieu of the HOP scene.
PUZZLES: Various degrees of difficulty, None terribly difficult. There is viewfinder to locate items within scenes. "Blinking lights" puzzles, maze puzzles were the ones I played in the demo.
INVENTORY: It is interactive and puzzle-like
EXTRA GOODIES: Morphing objects in HOP scenes 19 Achievements. Collect 40 film rolls. Collect souvenirs.
MAP: Provided at the beginning of the game as a "Golden Globe." Show less

This is the fourth Final Cut and they all take place at Wolf Studios where murder and mayhem abound! This time you are the assistant director helping your director brother shoot a movie that already has 5 deaths connected to previous attempts to make the movie. Your fiancé Rubin plays the villain, who shoots the hero Brian -- unfortunately with real bullets. So Brian dies and his wife Melanie and Rubin are kidnapped. It is up to you to save them by finding the original film and giving it to the kidnapper.
This developer always has lots of CE Bling. Besides the normal stuff, you have the Souvenir Room, the Making of, 40 film strips to collect, plus a Match 3 game. There are morphing objects in the HOPs - because it is an achievement, not because I found any. The film strip collectibles have an icon on the screen - very helpful.
There are four modes of play, including custom. The teleporting map has activities marked. There is also a film slide viewer, that you use in rooms where the slide was taken, to find details that are different. The HOPs are not too hard, but multi-level. The mini-games are OK, but not necessarily on topic for the game.
I played for 81 minutes, and just when I thought I was delivering the film to the kidnapper, he/she says it is only half of the film so you only get one hostage back! So I have to buy this game to save the other hostage! Try it and see for yourself. Show less

Particularly like having the option to re-enter the various scenes after main game is finished to find collectibles I may have missed as well as to search for souvenirs and again admire the brilliant artwork without having to re-play the entire game.
The Bonus Game in The True Escapade was creative and very well done. Have to hand it to these talented and brilliant developers who can make even the "Credits" interesting and fun to read!
