Every living soul must eventually depart this world to allow a new soul to be born. There are those who will seek immortality, if Death cannot find those souls and restore balance, a riff could occur causing cataclysmic events. Death has come a knocking once again, thankfully he is only seeking your sleuthing services in locating these procrastinators, starting with Leonard Gautier in Paris. Leonard sought immortality to escape Death, he had no regrets with his decision to become a bloodthirsty creature of the night, he had become so powerful that not even Death could harm him!
Death has given you some powerful tools, a Medallion that allows the dead to speak to the living (that could be a lot of fun) and a Magical Sphere which quickly transports you anywhere in the world. You will be using this sphere often because some of the items you discover will be outlined in blue which require closer examination in your laboratory. Your lab has some pretty unique equipment, a machine that duplicates keys once you find a diagram and a dummy key. You also have a machine that can develope photos and even expose hidden encryptions. Some of the items have plus sign indicators which require some type of interaction before using that item such as opening packages, repairing or combining that item with another inventory item.
The Hidden Object Scenes are well done, but there aren't very many which may disappoint some players. The HO's are interactive list finds but there are also twists, some lists need to be unlocked by finding and attaching different colored bats, and my favorite, finding 12 picture tiles after the listed items and once they were found, a side by side picture puzzle would appear. You have to swap tiles to complete each picture, when you swapped a puzzle piece on the left picture, the same tile would swap on the picture to the right as well. One of my favorite games required you to make 5 matches in a row of symbols shown in the middle. There are several tiles located both on the left and right, that needed to be memorized as you flipped them over one at a time, each set required you to make 5 matches in a row before moving on to the next set.
Personally, I chose the Collectors Edition, and I have no regrets either, lol. The Collectors Edition has 12 different Achievements, Morphing Objects (a must have in my book) Wallpapers, Concept Art, Music, a Secret Room, Solitaire Games, Collectible, Figurines, Playing Cards, Diary Pages, a built in Strategy Guide and of course a Bonus Chapter, enjoy! There are 3 levels of difficulty. The hint/skip charged quickly.
There is a jump-map. YOU MUST USE THE MAP. It's essential because you go back to your house many times for items.
The mini-games were rather simple, & didn't take too long to complete. If you like the complicated ones that take an hour to figure out, then don't get this. But for me, I loved the fact that I wasn't frustrated every 5 minutes by vague & sometimes impossible to understand puzzles. These were great, as it kept the flow of the game moving.
The graphics could have been better. I didn't have trouble finding items, but they were not as crisp & clear as I would have liked. This part is really the only thing I would gripe about. It wouldn't have taken long to sharpen the images, but for whatever reason, they let the graphics slide. Too bad...
I found the story line intriguing. I don't believe in writing spoilers. Play this one for yourself, & you'll see what I mean. This is an in-depth story, with several facets in each chapter.
As in the other Riddles of Fate, I found this one to be a bit short. It certainly could have used another chapter. I'm sure that the CE runs longer.
As far as re-play value: I'd say it's high, but not often. Since all of the RoF games are rather short, it would be easy to remember all the sequences if they are played often. I will certainly hang on to this game, but may not play it more than once a year [in order to keep it from being monotonous]. Kudos to Big Fish for another great one! But please, just ONE more chapter?

"death" sends you on a journey to find these people that are fighting death and to correct it and then after your first mission you have others. i thought the game was over but it is not that short. some of the HO scenes aren't that clear and dark around the edges and that is why i gave this game 4 out of 5 stars on visual/sound quality. sequel............i can see it!! I did, however use the transporter hint to move around; it was a bit faster than using the map. Custom options allowed you to set hint and skip to refresh quickly. Puzzles were fun and different as was the storyline. Show less

I loved visiting Paris, London and Prague in this game. The scenes were beautiful. The mini games and HOS were nice but simple most times. Nice voice-overs, great story line. It had a Castlevania vibe. Loved the music too.
Very short game. I beat the main game in about 2 hours.

Loved that you were able to go home and fix things and the keys made themselves instead of those puzzles were you had to make keys (drives me crazy having to make key after key after key) but this devise made them for you. You did have to make some potions but they were easy enough. Loved that you had to turn the light on and off depending what you were developing.
Felt it was over too quickly it may be because i was so engrossed in the story and the game.
Loved that when you hit hint it teleported you to the spot that you needed to go to.
Fantastic game - well done.

Graphics were just ok. I really dislike that magic blue crayon DEVS seem to need to try to represent a snowy evening. Ugh. Voice overs were great. LOVED the voice of Death. Can't comment on the music. It obviously didn't make much of an impression on me.
There are 3 difficulties: casual, advanced and hard core. I choose to play the demo on casual and opt for the Tutorial so I can get a good idea of what the game has to offer.
There is a diary of sorts. You must find Death's missing pages of a book. Death gives you several tools during the game to use in your endeavors. One is your interactive map (in the form of a crystal ball). I found the map so intricate it was difficult to use and so just "transported" through the hint button. There is also an amulet that allows you to speak to the dead. The hint button (which is on the LEFT side of the screen) did take a bit to recharge. There is a "task" tab located ON your Inventory tab.
The HOGs (hidden object games), while interactive, were simple list items that were not terribly difficult to find. The mini games were some old variety and some new fun, fresh and innovative varieties. I did find them to be on the easy side. IMO the mini games outweighed the HOGs.
Death is seeking the assistance of your character, a Detective, to locate those people running from their fate, trying to "cheat" Death. Not only must you find those people, but you need to find evidence of their nefarious plans for cheating Death. Good luck.
The first story involves a young woman, her boyfriend and missing women. One of these characters is "cheating" Death. Who is it? And how is he/she doing it? Even though it becomes obvious fairly early on, that IS your task.
I do own the other games in this series. I was unimpressed with this one. Immediately, there was no sense of "let's go here and do this", necessitating the use of the "hint" button a few times. The story seemed disjointed and didn't flow well ..... until you got to the end. There was no indication of how many people you had to find "cheating Death" but I would venture to say not that many as I found a good 1/4 (or slightly more) of the collectibles when playing the CE demo.
I was terribly disappointed in the CE version when it came out. Now, maybe I'm in a better mood .... or I simply have one too many free games I need to purchase. But, considering it's probably a very short game, it wasn't too bad. I admit to being curious as to how others will try to cheat Death.
So, yes, I will probably use a coupon to get it. I would only recommend this game for beginners, as it was extremely easy. Unless you have a PCC you absolutely have to use.

The grapic's are very sharp and engaging, even the HOS are clear and colorful, and the objects are not so small, you need a magnifing glass to find them.
The map is truly interactive, it allows you to teleport between locations, which is good, because there is a bit of back and forth. You start at your home, where you are set up to make keys, dechiper all kinds of texts, and brew potions as needed. The music is very good, it sets the scene, its scary, suspenceful etc. The HOS are very good also, you have some straight find the list, find the silloutte, and my favorite find 1 object to use to find 2nd object etc. You also have the option to play a game instead. The mini games ranged from fairly easy to much harder. But I was able to do most of them without having to use the skip button, this is a BIG plus for me.
I played the free 1 hour trial, and then purchased, it right away, I didn't want to stop playing. I am not sure of the exact time to finish, but it seemed fairly long for a SE version. So enjoy. Show less
