Those who have already played the Monument Builders series will find this one very similar. It really feels like the MB game in the wild west with some welcome differences.
As in MB, you must collect resources, construct production buildings, produce and buy goods and tools, and knock down bandits. However, there are two major improvements that really made the gameplay run more smoothly:
1 - You don't have to click on a building when the resource is ready and then wait until the cart reaches your main office. Just hover the mouse over it and its done. Also, if you're too busy doing something else and forget to collect the resource, it doesn't prevent the building to continue the production. When you hover your mouse over it, you'll collect all at once. Thumbs up!
2 - Unlike the other MB buildings, where you don't build the monuments, in this game you actually build or repair the railroad, which makes a lot of sense to me.
There are a few cons, though. If you decide to read the texts in the beginning of each level, the timer doesn't stop for you to do so. And some have important information and are rather long. Also, you can't click on anything else if you don't close the speech bubble. It makes you waste some precious seconds.
Overall, I enjoyed it a lot. It's challenging, but not impossible, and very fun. I've just played the 1-hour trial, but I intend to buy it. If you enjoy the MB games, then you'll enjoy this one. I recommend it! Show less

I really enjoyed this game and have played it twice through so far. I have found the later iterations of the Monument Builders games too difficult to achieve three stars on higher levels. I like a bit of challenge in a game as it goes along, but I mainly play for relaxation and fun, and when a game becomes unwinnable at a certain point, I just get frustrated and mad. Lucky Luke is Monument Builders at its best - fun, cute storyline (although I was a bit confused by it; apparently there's some French comic book it's based on?), and the game is fairly winnable with some effort in the higher levels. It does get more difficult as it goes along, and I did play a few levels multiple times to get three stars, and there are a couple of levels that I've just given up on getting three stars after multiple tries - but unlike the later Monument Builders games, I didn't get angry or frustrated - I feel like, if I really wanted to put in more effort and more tries, I could get those last two levels up to three stars. There are bonus rounds as well, which gives a nice goal to working through the levels. All in all, for me, Lucky Luke is Monument Builders like it used to be - fun, relaxing, immersive, and not so challenging that you want to throw a rock at it. :-) Show less

I love almost everything about this Time Management game, the cowboy themed music, the fantastic graphics, the haphazard characters (especially Jolly Jumper) and the fun factor this game has to offer. The problem came into play with the resources required to complete a project. If you don't have enough resources for example to build a grocery store, it's extremely difficult to figure out what resources you lack because when you hover over the icon the resources you lack are shown in red, BUT the pictures are so teeny tiny (and I have a 27' screen) I ended up guessing at what the resources were. You buy the resources from the post office so you don't want to purchase a bunch of stone when you need iron. Other than that minor detail, the game is super fun!
The usual tasks are given, clear the roadway, fill in the holes, chop down wood, and gather food by clicking on the available unblocked item. Workers can be hired at the local saloon (how funny is that) Banks are built to receive gold, grocery stores provide food and the Undertakers provide wood (that's funny too) and the good ole Post Office is where you order supplies by clicking on the desired materials of Stone, Iron, RR ties etc, and you will need to click on the supply horse when the load is ready to deliver to the Post Office. The Railroad Tracks need constant repair, and Bandits are constantly trying to derail the train with dynamite that needs diffusing before it explodes! The Dalton Brothers are troublemakers and you'll have to have a wild wild west fistfight with them and the bandits from time to time.
Here's what I found the most interesting with this TM game, First you play the game in the Wild West, it's the same scene each time, you're just making improvements to the town each time. After a few levels in the west, you take off to the East and play a few levels there, after all the railroad doe have to meet up somewhere between the East and West, but who will finish first?
This game is educational as well, as Lucky Luke and Jolly Jumper explain some pretty interesting factoids about the Transcontinental Railway. For instance, President Lincoln announced the Pacific Railway Acts which authorized the Transcontinental Railroad Line on July 1st, 1862. Because of the Civil War, the first rails weren't laid until 1865 in the Eastern United States. Because of all the interesting facts Lucky Luke tells us, this game is perfect for Railroad and Train lovers, and Wild West buffs as well, enjoy! Show less

Not only do you get to relax and take your time, you learn some fun facts along the way. This is one of those games that I will play repeatedly when I just need to relax after a hard day of fulfilling my crafts orders. I do have just one teensy complaint however. The pictures are so very teensy. Not all of the players out here are young 'uns with excellent eyesight. Please, pretty please, when making games with objects like this, PLEASE make the pictures bigger. Show less

Like the other reviewers who have enjoyed this game, I also appreciate the graphics, history, theme and music. However, I have gotten stuck on one level or another when trying for 3 stars. No big deal, except I can't find my usual help from the game forums or walkthroughs. That's the only reason I've given this 4 stars instead of 5.
I recommend this game!

This game SHOULD have been fun, but the continual pop-up instructions (with no way to opt out) really got on my nerves AND made me lose a star a few times on the first few levels. And when Luke finally says he's going to leave us alone to play the levels - big sigh of relief - his horse, Jolly Jumper, jumps right in with more instructions.
Not only that, but as other reviews have stated it's difficult to tell which resources you need. Granted I'm over the hill, but I could not tell the difference between iron and rock a few times. And, just as I ordered the right one, clicked on my stagecoach to have it delivered, and got all set to build, up popped Luke again with another message! Gah!
I think this would be a fun game for Western enthusiasts who don't mind the non-PC of the game. Rantanplan, the chief, is a villain in the Lucky Luke stories. He's a cardboard figure and certainly non representative of any true Native culture.
Give it a try if you like Luke, the West, and construction games. Maybe once you FINALLY get past the tutorial the game will take off and be fun. Show less

I'm getting really tired of hearing the same voiceovers in these games. Can't the developers come up with some new ones?
The pictures of the resources are tiny. It took me a while to work out that the formless grey blob was stone.
The tutorial pops up and obscures your screen and I couldn't work out how to get rid of it. Nor could I understand it half the time. I'm not familiar with Lucky Luke or the infamous Dalton brothers, are they some sort of historical figures? Literary figure? What's with the dog with the weird name? (Again, it took me a while to figure out that LL was referring to the dog, so some info on this would have been useful.)
The "interesting facts" which are usually good in the MB games, mainly just drones on with the most boring details you can imagine about building a railway.
In one level LL gibbered something about the dog then a large red arrow kept pointing to a yellow thing behind a rock. I never was able to work out what to do with this large red arrow, I clicked here there and everywhere to no avail.
One of the earlier levels required me to build a bank then fix all the holes in the road. I didn't have enough formless grey blobs - er, stone. In the end I had to destroy the bank to get the stone and then I was able to order more. Why couldn't I just order more without destroying the bank, since I had to rebuild it? Doesn't make sense.
The screen is just annoyingly messy and confusing, with or without the stupidly enormous pop-up tutorial.
What I liked about it:
The resources accumulate even if you don't collect them straight away. (A good thing as half the time you CAN'T because LL's tutorial head is in the way), and you don't have to click on them, just mouseover.
Right, that's it. I didn't like anything else about it, it's a mess.

I don't recommend this game.
