I've not finished yet, because I am savoring every bit of it.

This is, yes, a bit old school. It reminds me of interactive graphic novel games like Vera Blanc, albeit much less stressful, since (at least so far) you can't die. There are no voiceovers or animation. It's comic book art in subdued colors. (Refreshing! No eye-searing purple, turquoise and pink!) You are really on your own, too. No ...Show more

I've not finished yet, because I am savoring every bit of it.

This is, yes, a bit old school. It reminds me of interactive graphic novel games like Vera Blanc, albeit much less stressful, since (at least so far) you can't die. There are no voiceovers or animation. It's comic book art in subdued colors. (Refreshing! No eye-searing purple, turquoise and pink!) You are really on your own, too. No hand-holding, no help! Yes!!!

Not a HOG, though you will search for things for your inventory, and they are not always easy to find. (Hint: Click everywhere - no click penalty!) This is adventure lite, with lots of back and forth action. It's story driven, and there is a lot to read. If you want to understand what is going on, you will have to read it, too. It's a big part of the game.

And speaking of the story, it's a very, very good one. Based on old myths from many cultures and their similarities, it has a lot to follow, and if you aren't into myths and legends, some of it may be a little puzzling. But, no missing relatives, no obnoxious helpers, no saccharine. The villains are quite human, too. Thank you, Devs!

I am absolutely overjoyed at a game like this, even if it is just a tad on the easy side. It really stands out from the crowd. I love games that are different, a tad noir, and not too predictable.

If you want HOS, cute helpers, hints, and lots of eye candy, it isn't your game. But if you like retro adventures, you gotta try it! Show less

I think ,leaving aside the game mechanics for the moment, you will love the game IF the characters have resonance to you. There are two characters who could serve as identification points, a man and a woman(What an idea!). If some part of your inner self is a slightly sceptical pursuer of the mysterious like Declan and (for a male player) if some other part of ones inner feminine is fey and from the light and shadow of the fairy world --or for the female player the reverse as it were-- then I think this game is more for you than almost any other game out there. The more if you feel a little at home with the academic world and enjoy eccentric scholars,or are one :). But that is secondary to relating to the primary characters who of course are figures from a comic book and yet imagination may work with them.

Now the mechanics of the game are unusual in that there is no strategy guide or hint system and until you get used to it it is a little awkward. There are no hidden objects in a junk pile but every move involves finding the hidden point needed.. It can seem like working without a safety net but there is a satisfaction in finding ,say, nine out of nine things in several places without having the hint to fall back on.

The opening bit about Gaia, the Trickster raven, and the technical man etc is a bit of comic book philosophy or theology but ..."deeper" than the average game's gestures in that direction.
Well I am rambling and propose that the make or break thing is in the characters and if you like them dont let anyone turn you around ,this game is a buy!! Show less

Opening cut scene is interesting, lengthy, and provocative-- drawing gamers into a truly artistic journey; especially those appreciative gamers ever so weary of the same game in different packaging--the usual morphing objects and collectibles, etc. There is so much more in this game!

HOG gamers are the popular crowd and they love to descend on any Adventure game if just to tear it to pieces and dash any hope to the rest of us Adventure lovers for having more types of these games They are like bullies as there's plenty of silly games already, so, go play one of them and leave this gem to those who appreciate genius.

In reading comments where certain advice is given that game should have this or that, well, it doesn't . The Book of Emissaries is unique and enjoyable with no interactive map--whoosh and no simplistic arrow pointing hint system-bing! The information box will offer hints when gamers click on it. Not altogether difficult as it is truly clever, we are on our own to play this game and guess what--it's do-able! After a while, you will get it as it's very simplistic and is all about self-confidence, really.

Developers allow gamers to test their mettle by allowing an atmosphere into the game much felt like Declan and Khakisa who must find their way. Developers were very generous in allowing gamers a Skip option, but gamers don't need it. Don't you dare touch that skip option! :))

The game is fun, inventive, curious, unique! Like any good book or game, didn't want it to end!

I am a fast reader, and liked not having to wait for cutscenes to finish out. I zipped through them at my own pace and enjoyed the dialogue between the two protagonists.

However, I do agree with other reviewers who said the intro was long and boring. Also, a map was definitely needed. WAY too much going back and forth to the river - six clicks each trip, and multiple trips.

There are definite hints at the end of the game that there will be a sequel. I hope the developers correct the shortcomings. If so, I will look forward to the next part of the story. Show less

I like this game, it's got a good storyline with puzzles right the way through. No HOS which is a real bonus for me I find them boring. The only downside I encountered was that the puzzles were a bit too easy. This wouldn't put me off buying a sequel to this one.

If you like puzzles and stories this is a great game, if you want HOS you're going to hate it.

Beautifully presented, thoughtfully scripted, slow-paced and magical. There are no hints. If you want instant gratification then go elsewhere - this is a slow burn of satisfaction.

Note - this isn't a hidden object game in the usual sense - no collecting irrelevant items from a list.

I recommend this game!

Finally, none of the usual in terms of storyline. A bit short but very interesting especially for the stories in the actual book and the theme itself: the power struggle of nature versus tech and the ever present trickster gaining the most.
It's easy for experienced point-and-click-gamers but nevertheless really worth it.

Yes, this game is more of an interactive graphic novel than today's typical adventure game, but I like the simplicity of the gameplay and appreciate the challenge of figuring things out on my own. I especially like the storyline; it is much more philosophical and profound than your usual supernatural game, with world views that finally resonate with me.

Wow. I've never been moved to write a review before, but this game just blew me away. It was challenging, interesting, and the twist at the end.....There has to be a sequel...Please!!!
