Tonight is the grand re-opening of the Taylor Hotel and hopefully history doesn't repeat itself as it hosts the Second Illusionist Championship. You remember that fateful night very well, because you are the journalist who won a Pulitzer Prize for the coverage of the First Illusionist Championship. Naturally things don't go well this time either, because that wouldn't be very "dangerous" now you must play a wicked game with an Illusionist who has some pretty deadly tricks up his sleeve. Can you survive this terrifying ordeal and separate what is real from illusion?
I loved the props used in this game, every puzzle and hidden object scene kept true to the genre with plenty of magic tricks and illusions. There are even 20 Morphing Magic Trick Cards hidden throughout the game, and you can earn Achievements that'll have you feeling like an illusionist champion! You will find a pair of Truth Goggles that will reveal hidden doors, passageways and hidden props, before using them you will have to recreate images shown by combining several shapes.
The Hidden Object Scenes range from interactive list finds, finding multiples of a single item, to progressive silhouetted shape finds. Each HOP has codes to decipher and small puzzles within to add more interactive features. The mini games were all based upon illusionist tricks and very creative. One such game required you to synchronize two clocks to show the life cycle of a bird. The left clock shows changing images of a birds life, and you drag tiles to the clock on the right to create a matching life cycle.
This Collectors Edition has 20 Morphing Trick Cards, Wallpapers, Concept Art, Music, Videos, replayable Mini Games, Achievements, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter, enjoy! Show less

A standing ovation and bouquets of Valentine roses for this game! Having "stars in my eyes," I would give it more than five stars if possible. This game has "magic" - a great storyline with mystery and suspense, beautifully colored graphics set in New York in the 1930's with a gentle splash of Art Deco, unique, puzzle-like HOP scenes and inventory, intriguing puzzles, and fairly decent "muzac." I had wished the demo was longer as I wanted to continue playing. This will be an automatic purchase to celebrate "'4 February mini holidays (Valentine's Day, President's Day, Mardi Gras and BD)."
HERE ARE THE DETAILS BASED ON A VERY, VERY SHORT DEMO
"The Phantom of the Illusionists" is stalking the Taylor Hotel. Who is the mysterious red masked man , winner of the first competition of illusionists? Is he a spirit or a real life person? An illusion within an illusion. How neat is that? You are an investigative journalist trying to make the big scoop on the second Illusionist competition. You have personally been asked to cover the story by the renowned hotel magnate, Samuel Taylor himself. He has also granted you an exclusive interview. Twenty years earlier the hotel had been destroyed by a fire but has been fully refurbished. Now, the first winner of the competition who died in the fire arises from the grave out for revenge against the critics who questioned the authenticity of his illusions. Like the song, "Hotel California," you find yourself "locked into" a hotel case which will need to be solved if you are ever to "get out" and leave it behind.
LEVELS: 4 - Casual (Easy with sparkles) Advanced (No sparkles - time penalties) Hard Core (No hints or skips) Customized
GRAPHICS: So realistic and well-done. An actual feel for the 1930's. Beautiful costumes set in muted colors. I so want that white satin dress appearing in the first screen shot. It would look so awesome with my "silver" birthday (25 years) slippers! LOL
INVENTORY: Puzzle-like and interactive. Very well done.
HOP SCENES: In the "short" demo I encountered the following:
A. ¡Abracadabra !- Your magic wand creates your HOP scene. It is puzzle-like and so creative. Search for gems which require you to solve "mini puzzles." This HOP scene is so well-done. I love the HOP scenes in this game.
B. Silhouette in some of the HOP scenes
C. FROG-like scenes - Searching for specific parts of items to create an inventory item 2 instances in the demo
D. Interactive story book in which you must replace items into the storybook scenes.
PUZZLES: Very well done and the varying degrees of difficulty should appeal to everyone.. In the demo I encountered the following:
A. Give the driver the exact amount of fare from a series of bills
B. Card game matching suits
C. Recreation of symbols by combining various shapes
D. Clock puzzle illustrating the life cycle of a bird
EXTRA GOODIES: Map is provided at the beginning of the game
16??? Achievements (what I counted) It was hard to tell in the backstage room
Strategy guide
Collect 20 cards related to magic tricks
The usual "extras" - music, wallpapers, videos :; however, you also collect magic tricks as well - kinda cool
I RATE THIS GAME 6 VALENTINES OUT OF 5 VALENTINES. THE EXTRA VALENTINE IS FOR YOU WISHING YOU A HEARTFELT AND A MAGICAL DAY WITH YOUR LOVED ONE(S)! Show less

This game is a lot trickier than it first appears. The longer you play it, the more intricate it becomes. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but it took me a bit to get into it.
So you are a reporter set to cover the 2nd World Championship of Illusionists taking place at the Taylor Hotel. You covered the first one and exposed the winner as a fake, even though the winner died in a fire that gutted the hotel. So now the "dead" winner has returned to the competition, and made one of the contestants disappear. So, intrepid reporter that you are, you set out to explore the theater and uncover the latest "trick" of the Red Mask Illusionist!
This game has several nice touches. You get a beautiful map of the theater, with some rooms that don't let you jump backwards once you move on. There are Illusion Goggles that let you see behind the magic messages the Red Mask guy keeps taunting you with. One of my favorite parts is the morphing trick cards collection, that show you how all the magic tricks you've watched as a kid are performed.
But the best part of this game are the HOPs and mini-games. The HOPs are interactive. One of them has you finding 6 gems by creating a potion, filling in a story, sawing a box in half, loading a revolver to get a flag to find the order to press the gems to get the code to finally get the key to the door! Each piece of the puzzle kept to the theme of magic tricks and was very clever.
One of the unique mini-games deals with two birds in cages - after you solve a HOP to build the bird. You then have to match the bird life cycles to pictures that flash and step you through the life cycle. I was hooked!
I'm gonna use this weekend special to buy! Try it -- it is very cool! Show less

To say that the offerings presented in these 7 weeks of 2015 have been overall less than stellar is an understatement. Blam Games has corrected this with Dangerous Games: Illusionist which is in a word superb. There was an illusionist competition 20 years ago which ended in tragedy at a hotel which was devastated by fire and the winning magician ( a man in a red mask )apparently died.
A hotelier restores the building, invites new illusionists for a second competition and a female journalist receives an invitation to commentate on the event. This is where the fun starts. The show begins with the man in the red mask mysteriously taking over the show. The hotelier explains that red mask is the man killed in the first show so many years ago. It is left up to the reporter, that's us, to decipher the coming illusions and determine why the masked man has become the embodiment of evil. Blam has drawn the game very well and the cut scenes tell a story in a quite interesting manner. In one well done segment during the demo we learn that red mask is an orphan taken under the wing of a magician and learns the tricks of the trade to become a master illusionist himself. The HO scenes are top notch and the puzzles are very creative indeed. We game players are given something that we can really get our teeth into. I often decry the sameness apparent in so many offerings. Dangerous Games cuts no new ground here since there has been many HOPAs wherein someone good becomes someone bad and the player's task is to determine why. What makes Illusionist so great is the manner in which the story evolves, both in the cut scenes and the game play. There are magician cards to collect. This is a must have game for me and I am sure lots of HOPA addicts like myself will feel likewise. Thank you BLAM for what will be a contender for 2015's game of the year.

Based on the demo, this is a great game. I really enjoyed playing it, but the demo was awfully short. I played on the hardest level and finished it in 39 minutes, which makes me really wonder if the game itself is not a short one.
That being said I give it kudos for great art, and a storyline that while not new (A reporter whom a vanished magician has a grudge against) keeps you interested.

I found it progressively fun and the more fun moving on and through the bonus game. More pleasing too because the threats of the villian was not only powerless as usual and even boringly usual in these games, but one came to feel the whole as illusion including all the ups and downs of the illusionist who as far as I could count left no dead bodies or deeply damaged lives. Could it be that his evil too is an illusion? Anyway that is the effect and then one is left with the colors and dancing forms through which to make your way by land and sea yet all the movement too as illusory in the story as these games are in our lives There is room for a sequel and I hope its imaginative touch can be as sure as that of this game seems to me. I am happy to be able to give a five which is not just with a sigh to support the genre.
And a recommendation especially to anyone who can enjoy a plot that turns into a bright mysterious bubbling champagne to taste in an art deco dream.
