The wealthy parents of Marion Ashworth have requested Madame White's services to investigate their daughter's murder at the prestigious Belfort Academy of Dance. Mr. and Mrs. Ashworth are certainly devastated by this horrifying news, but they haven't forgotten what Marion looked like, and this victim isn't her! This case only gets more bizarre as the investigation continues, it would seem that Marions imposter was the only Marion anyone ever knew including the headmistress Ms. Compton! Who exactly is the murder victim, and what happened to the real Marion? Did the murderer intend to murder the real Marion or the fake Marion?
There are 41 hidden Collectible Masks throughout this game, as well as a ton of Achievements to earn, AND receive Gold, Silver, or Bronze categories within those thirteen achievements. Some of the inventory items have plus signs indicating that further action is required before that item can be used, such as fixing that item or combining it with another inventory item. There are 10 Morphing Objects, but they are only available within the Hidden Object Scenes. To help you remember, there is an icon that will flash until you find the changing or morphing object.
The Hidden Object Scenes are mostly interactive list finds, but there are unusual scenes as well, such as searching the murder victim for signs of a struggle, or finding a specific number of personal items. You can opt to play a Match 3 game in place of the HOP. The Mini Games are good, but I was surprised to find most of them just revamped puzzles, matching two related items, or using arrows to rotate several fabric buttons on a diamond shaped grid until the buttons were in their matching colored holes.
This Collectors Edition has all sorts of goodies, Souvenirs, replayable Mini Games and HOP's as well as Bonus HOP's once the Bonus Chapter has been completed, the Making of, Achievements, Pictures which has both Wallpapers and Sessions, Movies, Match 3 games, 41 Collectible Masks, Music, 10 Morphing Objects, and a built in Strategy Guide, enjoy! I really did enjoy this game especially as I had no interruptions, i.e. phone calls or unexpected visitors. So I was able to concentrate on the game uninterrupted with the exception of my kittens poking their bottoms into my face, as most cats do!
Levels: Gumshoe, Detective, Inspector and Custom.
Lockable Inventory
Jump Map.
Voices: Excellent, I especially liked the variation of accents, and the lip synch was very good too.
Music: Nice and gentle.
Case File: Where the photos of the characters are stored along with some of their details, name, age, occupation, etc.
HOPS: Very varied from lists, to find and place or find and use, silhouettes, etc, etc. I personally found these a bit more challenging than in previous games from these devs, but I am not complaining even when it took me a whole 5 minutes to find the last item.
Mini Games/Puzzles: Not that difficult but some took longer than the others and none were carbon copies of other games we‘ve seen before. Sadly for me I could not work out how to solve the very last puzzle in the bonus game and actually skipped it after trying for half an hour!
Morphing Objects: There are only10 of them even though there are 13 HOPS in the game, obviously the devs added this little twist into the game - keeping us on our toes so to speak.
Collectibles: 41 masks to collect, most are very easy to find but there’s a few that aren’t.
EXTRAS: In My personal opinion only.
Re-playable Mini Games - I am not interested in.
Souvenirs - I like collecting these and I believe there are 30 to collect, some are in plain site others are not.
HOPs: Re-playable to allow you to achieve a 100% score and a gold trophy - I like playing these.
Making Of: Not interested in
Pictures/ Wallpapers: Not interested in.
Match 3: Not interested in.
Movies: I generally only look at these if I have been interrupted when they are playing during the game.

Another standing ovation for the master craftsmen of gaming. True genius at work! This game is a work of art with a fabulous storyline with CREATIVE AND INNOVATIVE HOP scenes and puzzles. Combining two of my favorite activities - dancing and gaming, I am dancing in game heaven with this one! THIS GAME IS THE PIXIES AT THEIR BEST! The PixIES take you on a "danse macabre" into the world of murder, mystery and mayhem the late 1920's South, (New Orleans?) where a little "sugah" can lead a spider to spin a web of deceit and crime.
HERE ARE THE DETAILS FROM THE DEMO:
It takes two to tango and you will do a double-take in this game, experiencing double the trouble in solving this murder mystery. Uncover many loose threads which must be woven together to solve this murder. You play Andrea White investigating the "death" of Marian Ashworth, a promising wealthy dance student Complications arise when you soon discover that a corpse which had been assumed to be Marion is actually someone else. Where is Marian Ashworth and who is the murdered girl? Another tale is weaved into this deadly web. A fellow student with some resemblance to Marian is also studying dance at this school. Since she is in desperate of funding - money or lack of it can lead her to engage in some rather shady behavior to reach her goals. Who is this poor student who has been borrowing money to foster her dance education? As you endeavor to solve this case, the answer to one question leads to more questions. Such a "mysterious" delight! I love this game!
LEVELS: Four - Gumshoe (sparkles) Detective (Sparkles) Inspector (No sparkles but penalties) Customized. Hint recharge from 10 to 120 seconds Skip recharge from 10 seconds to 400 seconds WOW! Error and sparkles can also be monitored by time as well.
GRAPHICS: Realistic and beautifully done as usual for this dev. Well-done with muted tones worthy of a work of art.
INVENTORY: Puzzle-like and interactive
HOP SCENE: They are varied and interactive. You may play a Match 3 game instead. All are theme related. Most items are easily located
In the demo I encountered:
A. Examination of a body looking for clues.
B. A Junk pile with a list of items. Some interactivity in this scene. Final item found is an inventory item
C. Silhouette style in a mini HOP scene with few items to locate
D. FOURTH HOP SCENE IS AWESOME AND INNOVATIVE! Look for a specific number of one item - to open up an inventory to be used in the HOP scene to release yet another list of items to locate. HOW INGENIOUS! DEVS - I REALLY ADMIRE YOUR CREATIVITY AND GENIUS AT GAME CONSTRUCTION!
PUZZLES: All well crafted and innovated. In the demo I encountered:
A. Opening a lock by matching items appearing on the pins of the lock
B. Variation of a sliding puzzle - Placing buttons to matching colors on a chair
C. Mosaic puzzle - moving tiles into correct locations. One tile influences other tiles and they must be moved into correct position on an abstract drawing.
EXTRA GOODIES:
A. Custom cursors
B. Map is provided at beginning of the game with areas requiring action highlighted
C. 10 Morphing objects There is a screen to indicate a scene with a morphing object and if it was discovered
D. 41 Collectibles - Masks
E. Case file to review all the facts in the case
F. Strategy Guide
G. Usual wallpapers, videos on creation of game, bonus games to play,
EXTRA COMMENTS:
SO HAPPY! FOR ME THIS GAME IS A GIFT AT THE END OF A RATHER HECTIC WEEK! I AM IN AWE AT THE GENIUS AND INNOVATION IN GAME CREATION FROM THIS DEV. THIS IS A MASTER STORYTELLER WHO HAS CREATED AN EXCITING GAME WITHOUT "CUTESY HELPERS" OR GIMMICKS! And, I would also say this dev's games appeal to about everyone on this site.
Outstanding plot in this storyline. I cannot figure out the mystery behind this murder and I am fairly good at that. I am completely baffled! BTW - I love the addition of either a 1930 era Cadillac or Packard Phaeton ? (can't tell) at the Club de Celeste in this game- So awesome.
I RATE THIS 7 DANCERSOUT OF 5 DANCERS. IT TAKES 2 TO TANGO AND THE REMAINING 2 SHOULD HELP YOU EASILY DANCE THROUGH THIS CASE.

Turns out the murdered girl is NOT Marion, so now you have two mysteries to solve - who is the murdered girl, and what happened to Marion?
This series is full of nice touches - but the Southern accents are not one of them, especially the headmistress! But the game play is excellent, moving from the Academy to the Club de Celeste to track the killer. The HOPs are fun, including the "investigate the body" type, silhouettes, and multi-tiered find the symbols to get the list to get the item you need. Each HOP also has a morphing item, with an icon to remind you to look for it -- but I can't seem to find them without the strategy guide!
There are four modes of play - Gumshoe, Detective, Inspector and Custom. The developers really follow the theme of the game throughout - when you win an achievement, a ballerina is colored in. The CE bling includes finding 41 collectible masks, a souvenir room that opens up after the bonus game, a Match 3 game, replaying the HOPs and Mini-games, plus Bonus HOPs. The only extra I didn't like was the Making Of video -- slo-motion nonesense instead of showing us the developers.
This is a first rate addition to the series. Try it and see! Show less

Intro of the game was a real cinematic experience, like a beginning of a great movie and I couldn't wait to start playing.
I was intrigued by the story from the second I started playing.
Since my favourite type of HOPA themes are detective stories, this is a game for me.
Again, in a role of detective I had a task to solve a crime and reveal who killed the girl named Marion Ashworth.
Game play was much more fun than in other games.
I had a lot of fun collecting all the evidence and solving mini games, that were amazing and challenging and not too easy to solve.
One thing that I expected as a detective is a tool kit or something similar, but the game play worked fine without it anyway.
Special things you might like: First hidden object scene with body examination, map provided at the beginning of a game, beautiful collectible masks, collecting morphing objects, great strategy guide, achievements, you may play a Match 3 game instead of playing hidden object, etc.
I sincerely can't wait to play whole game and enjoy even more.

This third game in the Danse Macabre series starts out with a murder, or is it an accident? We are told that all secrets come to light even in death so it looks like we are in for a good old tale of “things are not always as they seem.”
The game is brought to us by one of the top game developers so that means great graphics with all the special touches. The graphics appear to be a mixed bag of hand drawn artwork with some scenes being computer generated. The sound package is terrific and I love the background music. The lip-synced voiceovers are for the most part very good but some of the accents seem a bit off. I am sure that fans of this developer will notice that one of the characters is recycled from a different game. I was having some difficulty figuring out the game’s time period but would think it is set sometime circa 1920s. However as in all games, there are certain things that don’t make sense with the game’s suggested time period, which doesn’t bother me as much as it might some “purists.”
The tools include a transporter type interactive map that will help you navigate during the game. You also have a case file that contains information gathered during your investigation as well as a section for your objectives.
I am sure that most of you are very familiar with the types of HOPs that this developer puts in their games and the ones in Deadly Deception are very much the same. Some of the puzzles seemed a bit frustrating since they are the type where moving one thing will move another but they are doable if you take the time to think about what goes where. I happen to like puzzles that make me think and exercise some of my brain cells, so although the puzzles are not overly difficult they seem to have more challenge than some in recent games.
The game includes collectibles to find as well as morphing objects that are located in some HOPs. The remainder of the CE content is nothing special and I think it is simply a matter of personal preference when deciding to get the CE or wait for the SE release. I am always looking for a new game so I have a difficult time waiting – lol.
Deadly Deception is the third game in the Danse Macabre series and, IMHO, this is the best of the three. The storyline for the game is so interesting and kept me guessing until the end of the game. The game held my attention and I when the demo ended, I had to keep going so I purchased the game and I am happy that I did. It is so refreshing to have a good whodunit without witches and evil demons wanting to take over the world. I loved the game but, as always, I recommend that you at least try the demo to see if this is a game you will like. Show less

Hi all. I was really surprised at how short this demo was, especially since the beta was considerably longer. Of course, the beta did not give you any of the extras, or even an SG, but I found this one to be the best of the three in this series so far. Graphics were excellent, very clear. Colors are very true. Game play was excellent, no lag time between scenes or choppy movements. Music was good. I like the time period and the characters fit well. Sound FX were good and voice overs were well done with some emotion, depending on what was happening at the time. Cut scenes are very well done.
HOPs were nice, nothing new or difficult. Items were not too difficult to find. Puzzles were fairly simple, but I liked them and do take some thought...nothing new here either. Jump map was okay, very bland, but areas with objectives are clearly identified. You will use this frequently, as you do a lot of back-tracking to the same locations. SG is easy to follow if you need it. Hard to tell how long the game is, since the SG didn't show the entire index. Hint system is quite helpful and does transport to longer locations.
Collectibles are 41 masks that are not difficult to find. Some are quite small and others overly large. There are morphing objects in 10 of the HOPs scenes. These aren't all that hard to spot, but you really do have to watch for them.
I found the story interesting and the game had enough going on to keep you moving and wanting more. It is not all that challenging, but the story flowed well and was easy to follow.  I believe all levels of players will enjoy this game. Yes, I decided during the beta test that I was going to get this one as soon as it came out. Based on the short demo, I would not have given this 5 stars, but because of the much longer beta test, I have, which is something I seldom do.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. Thanks for the reviews. Show less

The graphics are amazing. You almost feel like you're a part of the game. The music was great .... almost soothing. Every little thing that could make a sound ..... you could hear (unfortunately, I have an earache but I still heard the sound fx through the cotton in my ear -lol).
You are brought in to investigate the murder of a very prominent family's daughter at a very prominent Dance School. Everything goes as it should, until the parents view the body. And then? It's ...... not ..... her. WHAT?!?!??! Then, who is it? And, even more importantly ..... WHERE IS THE MISSING GIRL?????
There are 4 levels and I LOVE the names: Gumshoe, Detective, Inspector. Each difficulty allows you to make various changes with "Custom" having the most changes available. I think that's pretty cool.
You don't have a "journal" per se but a case file that includes your Objectives and a dossier on key characters in the case. The map is easy to use and is transportable. The hint button will transport you as well. You also have the ability to use a magnifying glass to find various clues .... for instance .... on the girl's body.
The CE Bling has a lot to offer, IMO. Besides the usual .....
OK, the strategy guide is usual
The Bonus Game is usual
A place for souvenirs that I THINK you find during the game - not sure.
41 Collectible masks - there is actually a mask near the hint button which will show you if you've found it in that room yet or not.
10 Morphing Objects - same thing ..... there is an emblem that shows whether you've found it or not.
The collectible masks seem very easy to find ..... until you can't find one - they CAN be difficult. Same with the Morphing Objects - it requires patience .... of which I have none.
The HOGS are quite fun and wonderfully interactive. The mini games needed some patience as well but I did not find any that were not doable.
I often hedge on that horrid CE vs SE fence but this game has me hooked and it's the CE for me. I highly recommend it for every level of player.
Come along with me and let's try to find out what's REALLY going on ..... at the Dancing Academy.

Music lovely and soothing not like some so loud hate that. The visual superb not like the last one. I just wish I could have caught the special price this weekend. Maybe next time.
