What a complicated in depth strategy game this is! I really wasn't digging it at first, but once I got the hang of it, it was kinda fun. What a complicated in depth strategy game this is! I really wasn't digging it at first, but once I got the hang of it, it was kinda fun. This is different than most strategy games I have played, you have to build the city with houses, stone quarries, fishing huts, tree nurseries etc. You have to build certain buildings in order to build other buildings, you need wood and stone to build houses or fishing huts therefore you need to build sawmills and quarries first. You need to click on the main building to recruit workers first, but of course they need fed so you need food resources first. Each building will need at least one worker, after you recruit a worker, you click on the building that you want workers to go to, and add as many workers as you want, the more workers, the faster the production goes. The main building also allows you to recruit a carrier to pick up resources so you don't have to click on them constantly, and you can choose which resources the carriers pick up first with a slider bar feature. When production comes to a halt, you need to assign more workers to the buildings because the workers leave when they get hungry. The entire playing field is covered with clouds, building obelisks in strategic areas will appease the gods and clear away a portion of clouds. Eventually you will build roadways to allow trade to neighboring cities, and new buildings are unlocked. This game is surprisingly addicting, as you watch your city grow, and meet the level goals. The only thing I disliked about this game was that there was no clear cut task list available. You are given a new task and shown the requirements briefly but there's no list shown afterwards, so you have to remember what the requirements are for each task. Enjoy! Show less

I read all the reviews and it was those pointing out the game's difficulty that prompted me to try it. I barely finished level two when my demo time ran out, but unlike others who gave up, I eagerly used my credit to buy the game. I've only had it three days and I'm only on level five but I love (almost) every minute.

Does it have a learning curve? Yep, and a somewhat steep one at that for those unfamiliar with these types of games. Could the instructions be better? Certainly, but they are indeed understandable. For me, the issue has been forgetting key tips taught in the tutorial. If there is a way to bring those items back up, I would likely be farther along, but I happen to enjoy giving my brain a challenge.

The workers move a bit slowly for my tastes. I'm used to moving faster through a game once I understand it. However, there is so much going on at once, I'm not sure it would be playable if the workers did move faster.

I am sincerely NOT insulting players who enjoy more simple point & click games. Games are designed to let one's mind be distracted, so if that's your thing, by all means, go for it. I do agree with others though in the fact that the overwhelming majority of BFG offerings have very little complexity or challenge. For those of us who enjoy more complicated games, we greatly appreciate this addition. Show less

This is quite an interesting strategy game, where you build your settlement from the ground up.

This is quite an interesting strategy game, where you build your settlement from the ground up.

The game offers a detailed tutorial; however, it also took me the entire demo to really get the hang of it. By the end of the demo I was confident in how to build up my settlement.

You can choose to play casual mode or not. I chose non-casual, which added a little more challenge to the game play. You also have an option of Campaign or Endless mode.

Your tasks are listed in the upper right of the resource bar, and if you click on the task, it will open up the starting window that provided you with the task details at the start of the level.

The movement options of my explorer was a bit of a clunky design, and I have to admit that I wasn't a big fan of that.

This game is definitely something that grows on you, and I have the feeling that folks will either love it or hate it. I love it. It's interesting, different, challenging, and fun.

I am thoroughly enjoying this game. I simply do not understand the negative reviews. While the level where you have to roam around forever searching for the oasis was annoying, most levels were not like that.

Each level has (for the most part) different challenges. Maybe you can't build a well in one, so you have to be creative. Or you can't build a market, so you have to find a way to survive without that. Maybe you don't have trees, but you have lots of rocks. Or the camels are eating all your fruit.

If your workers are moving too slow, build worker statues, it makes them go faster. Also, they go MUCH faster if you put in roads.

I did not read all of the reviews, but I read many that referred to a recommendation to play on Casual - I think this game is fairly easy and I wasn't playing on Casual. I don't understand the difficulty issues. If you are running out of time, just send the Pharaoh some money and he gets happy again.

All in all a great game! But where is Egyptian Settlement 1?????? Show less

I love the game mostly because it takes longer than 2 hours to finish the whole game, but I've been searching for Egyptian Settlement 1. If this is Egyptian Settlement 2, than there has to be an Egyptian Settlement 1....right?

This is HARD. A real challenge. Do not think that because you play untimed that you will not sweat bullets. You have to think, you have to keep your resources - specially food - even if this means keeping your explorer going from bush to bush. Do not hire workers unless you can feed them. Remember to send tribute to the pharaoh, but do not send so much that you are left with nothing.

They would not enjoy this game as it requires a bit of a learning curve. However, the game supplies abundant help if you're willing to read it.

It's different, which is saying a lot when these games are being pushed out at a breakneck pace.

I love building/planning games and some of my favorites are World of Zellians, Dream Builder Amusement Park, and Paradise Beach, to name a few. If you enjoyed those games, chance are good you will enjoy this one.

Usually I do not provide reviews either, but this one really deserves better!

I did not judge storyline, because I always skip the stories. Because of the poor rating from everyone else, I also opted to play the demo on casual mode. When you first enter the game you have the option to use the tutorial or not. Even though I am very experienced in this type of game, I selected the tutorial to find out why everyone is having issues with it. I had no problems understanding the tutorial.

The controls are slightly different than I am used to and the little man appears to not be doing anything, but then a resource will appear on the screen. (A little patience when you are exploring) This is really is a simple game to grasp if you have experience with the fog-of-war, build the community, type of game. It honestly reminds me of the old WarHammer game (the original single player, orc against orc) I played 20 years ago - the workers even make similar comments.

I played my demo out - made it to level three so not sure why someone else couldn't make it passed the first level in an hour?!? I restarted the third level a couple times otherwise I would probably have made it further. This first time is only because I did not like where I originally planted my Main House, and the second time because my offered resources were too sparse. I was really getting into it when my time ran out.

I will be purchasing this game. I recommend it for anyone that is truly experienced in the older fog-of-war type games. Show less

There are a few levels, especially right at the beginning of the game that made me hate it. Then I started getting the hang of it and really got in to it. It's definitely a challenge in some spots, & I started over on several levels. There were several sequences that had me grinding my teeth in frustration. It's not a perfect game, but it's a great deal of fun value. It really is a "management" and building game where you have to slowly build your resources and manage your workers and expansion. This game begins every level with a painfully slow exploration of the surroundings, during which you probably need to formulate a strategy for the coming game. Once the game begins, certain material shortages must be addressed in order not to be required to start over again. I had to restart at least three levels after running out of materials and being stymied in attempts to recover. The first five minutes of the first level of the game includes an overload of information which no one could be expected to absorb. Rather, one needs to read the instructions and try to play. Then, when all else fails, stop and read the instructions again. Sounds like work, and it is, but this is an adventure game devoid of minigames, HOGs, or M3s. It is different! I wish the exploration were faster, as the fastest level I played was an hour and the longest was 4 hours, but that is just how it is. You build a settlement and then when you accomplish the goals you move on. The settlement may or may not be very complete, but you are moved on anyhow. Along the way you learn how to do things to complete future levels. That may not be the way it seems, but a level or two later you probably will remember how it was back a level or two earlier and try that strategy.
My opinion on rating this game; this is a slow adventure game which cannot be rushed. It isn’t the usual game and that makes it occasionally frustrating. If you get on board for the long run, however, it can become quite fun. Despite my initial misgivings, and all the cuss words I wasted on it, overall I think it was quite entertaining. Show less
