This is another fantastic Dark Parables, with a bit of a twist on Jack And The Beanstalk, in true DP fashion, and I wouldn't want it any other way. This is another fantastic Dark Parables, with a bit of a twist on Jack And The Beanstalk, in true DP fashion, and I wouldn't want it any other way. Jack is all grown up in this rendition, still a thief by nature with a bit of attitude toward the residents of a newly fallen Sky Kingdom. There are 20 cursed objects and some are difficult to spot because they morph slowly. As with all the Dark Parables you will get to collect 1-4 of each "Parable" which will give you the story of that Parable when all 4 are collected. The HOS are actually fragmented pieces and once all of the pieces are found they will join together to form a complete item. One of my favorite mini games was a fairytale stage with Jack and several items that had to be manipulated to complete the story such as picking apples and making butterflies fly to the Sky Kingdom. I own every DP game and will absolutely add this gem to my collection, enjoy! Show less

Detective, you have been called to Alblasserwaard, Holland after a sudden appearance of the fabled Sky Kingdom over the town has caused much destruction and fear in the area after part of it crashed to earth. Although loosely based on “Jack and the Beanstalk”, the Dark Parables version comes with a grown up Jack who is more reminiscent of Indiana Jones than the young boy of legend. Step into another opulent creation from the Blue Tea team as you investigate the Sky Kingdom and solve the mystery of Jack and his friends.
The graphics are exactly what I love about Blue Tea games – they are colorful and absolutely gorgeous. The developer’s use of rich color complete with mounds of rich treasure provides a visual feast as I make my way through the adventure. Oh yes, and did I mention Jack? Jack is one of the most realistic artistic renderings of a character I have ever seen in a game, and I felt like he could come to life at any moment and reach through the screen and whisk me back into the game with him. Unfortunately, that tantalizing up front action scene with Jack seemed to fade into obscurity as the game progressed and Jack seemed to become very dependent on my help for almost everything. So my larger than life hero morphed into a small character on the screen but perhaps we will have more interaction with him later (sigh – one can hope).
The only tools you have are an interactive map and a directional hint button and that’s about it! Although the strategy guide says the map will allow you to travel to a location, it doesn’t seem to work for me. Maybe it is a technical issue.
Since this is a Blue Tea game it is a given that the HOS are FROGS. However with Jack and the Sky Kingdom the developer has stepped it up a notch and, since I don’t want to spoil your fun by telling you what that difference is, I will leave it for you to figure out what has changed. I will say that it took me a bit to stumble upon the difference but then I finally had my “aha” moment - lol. Most Blue Tea games are not heavy on mini-puzzles and rely more on the FROGS and that appears to be the case with the Sky Kingdom as well since I only encountered three very easy min-puzzles during the demo.
The CE package is fairly standard for the Dark Parables games. Throughout, you will collect parable notes that fill in pieces of the story until you have five stories. You also will need to find twenty cursed (morphing) objects scattered in different scenes of the game. Aside from those mentioned you have puzzles, wallpapers, movies, and the integrated strategy guide.
One of my favorite Dark Parables games was the Red Riding Hood Sisters and Jack and the Sky Kingdom may prove to be right up there as another top-notch game in the series. Since I am addicted to the Dark Parables games as a whole, I have never been able to wait a month for the SE version to be released and I always jump at the game the day it is released. This new Dark Parables is no exception and I purchased it outright. As always, I recommend that you at least try the demo to see if this is a game you will like. Show less

The Dark Parable series never disappoints! They all are loosely aligned to a fairy tale (Cinderella, Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty and more) with unique twist that make you smile and want to keep on playing! This one is no exception. You arrive at the town of Alblasserwaard in Holland, to find sinister looking pieces of a Sky Castle that continue to fall to earth and rain down destruction on the town. An armed stranger threatens you, and you are rescued by a handsome, daring man called Jack who seems to be fighting his own battle with the Castle and the stranger. Turns out Jack needs your help to recreate the beanstalk so he can climb up to the Sky Castle and rescue his fiancé and friends who are held captive by the three princes.
The HOS are all FROGs (fragmented objects) that must be assembled, but the graphics are so clear and clean and bright, it is a pleasure to find the pieces. The mini-games are unique and fun -- one is a story type that you must move pieces around until Jack reaches the beanstalk and the clouds. There are five parables that you must uncover pieces to, in order to read the explanation. One of them is about Rumplestiltskin, and so is the Bonus game, so I assume he plays a part here somehow.
You only have your hint button and a map (not teleporting) as tools. No strategy guide, but I used the hint button a lot. There are three modes of play, plus the CE stuff of wallpaper, movies, music, art and puzzles. There are also 20 cursed morphing objects to find that speed up your hint button. This game is FUN! OH MY GOD THIS IS A GREAT GAME!!! After waiting a couple of months we get DP6 and this time we got no mid-evil stuff now. We got western adventure. Jake, the main dude, is like a combination of Indiana Jones, and John Wayne that helps you along the quest of the Sky Kingdom. Your enemies are the 3 brothers, one's a fighter, one's a vain shapeshifter, and the last one is the one that made the beans in the first place. Your only alli is a woman named Emma(A former red hood sister) who she, and a few others(hint hint Raph was one of them) were trapped on the sky kingdom when Jake took down the first beanstalk. But the king, greedy like the bonus game 2 games back, was merciful and took care of her for 10 years. Turns out that long ago the king's wife left him and took her daughter with her when his greed went too far there's a surprise where I won't spoil it for you but hint hint read all the notes you find. Speaking of the queen you will also see a stone imp name Rumple-something and you'll find out more of him during the bonus game. Now in the bonus game you are the queen and you have a mission that involves the imp and a small person. Is it Tom Thumb or Thumbelina? You'll have to find out on your own.
Visual: So beautiful in the sky kingdom and the land below is so beautiful it makes you want to live there or tricks you in thinking you are there and not playing on your computer and a big upgrade when comparing with the first game.10/10
Mood: Suspense and excitement especially with the small twist and turns. 10/10
Music:Bye bye mid-evil hello western adventure. Though there are those that won't like the change but I'm glad there's something different in this setting. 10/10
Voice-acting:Luckily it doesn't happens in the cutscenes and I don't know if you guys get this on your computer but sometimes the sentence is cut short like the Sopranos show. If you don't have that problem it's a 10/10. If you do it's a 9/10
Story: A few twist and turns that makes you think how everything is connected but for a good reason. 10/10
FROG: Same as usual but now we got moveable objects you have to click to find. Not a put together and find. Those that love it 10/10 those that don't 8 or 9/10
Puzzles:Not as hard as Cursery but then again this is DP so no surprises. 8/10
Length: Pending on how long and how good are you at the game. The average for me is about an hour and half more or less. No score
Replay value:I didn't mind this the last couple of games but now I do. I'm hoping the next game we can play it again without rewriting different user names. Tip BTG let us keep the same user names but maybe we can play on a different level of the 3 you always put up. 5/10
Bonus game: Great prequel but feels like something's missing. Can't put my finger on it but maybe that's just me. 9/10
Overall this is a great game for an A-. Can be played over and over again for something you miss and a great chapter to the DP series. Oh and here's a hint for the next game for those that haven't gotten it yet or haven't gotten close in the demo. Hint: It's a story that Disney made but does it involve a magic flower? Show less

My first purchase from Blue Tea Games was the iconic "Dark Parables: The Curse of the Rose." Since purchasing that game, I've become a devoted follower of Blue Tea, all of the Dark Parables, and every other game they've made. I have not been disappointed in any of the games that I've bought.
Dark Parables itself is a fascinating series, remixing fairy tales and fairy tale characters, each story related to the previous AND the next game. Collecting all the Dark Parable Games makes a far larger, much broader story. For example - The sister of Aurora from the first game is Princess Ivy, who is one of the six wives of the Frog Prince, [game two] and another wife of the Frog Prince was Snow White [game three]... and continues to make a pattern through and through. I'm so excited to play this game for its own sake, and for finding out how this game is connected to the others!
If you are thinking about getting this game as your first Dark Parable, I would think about getting Dark Parables: The Curse of the Rose or Dark Parables: The Exiled Prince, so you can live the games through how they were meant to be experienced. Show less

I like the adventure and the fairytale mode of the story and how the developers blended these two genres together: And very nicely indeed. I actually feel involved in the plight of the hero/heroine of these story-games. I care about them. I want them to overcome the villain (evil). I will say that if you played and enjoyed any of the Dark Parables, Awakening Kingdom games, or even Enchantia: Wraith of the Phoenix Queen, you're going to love, love this game. Show less

If there is anything that I would ask them to change and this is a small thing, it would be to allow navigation through the map. I love that their HO scenes are fragmented, it really makes their games stand out. Graphics are sharp, storyline is very interesting and with multiple difficulty levels, you can replay this to really get your money's worth. I played this game thru on the intermediate level and it took me approximately 6.5 hours including the bonus chapter. This is a good game for any level of skill to play.
This is a game that you must buy, they definitely make it worthwhile. Kudos to Blue Tea Games, they get my vote for developer of the year and PLEASE keep them coming!
