What would you think if you discovered a sarcophagus 10,000 years old, and inside was a modern day smartphone? What would you think if the mummy inside looked exactly like you? Well, after some confusing moments, you would begin to think that just maybe, time travel is possible! (I wanna be buried with a smartphone too, just in case)
This is a very unusual game, with very unusual features, and a ton of innovative games. The Hidden Object Games are varied from matching two related items, finding items that match silhouetted shapes and interactive list finds. The Mini Games are much more impressive, and plentiful! From recreating an image using three different symbol shapes, swapping and rotating circular discs (while you learn of fantastic time travelers) Swapping books in the correct order to recreate an image, finding items shown on a list through a telescope, and a unique jigsaw where you swap different sized pieces even if they look too big or small to fit. My favorite game was a fast past code game where you click on the numbers in the correct sequence, the kicker is that the numbers are rotating AND changing at a wicked fast pace!
Even though this is a standard edition, there are 16 Achievements, and several really cool mini games to unlock, which was my favorite part. The following are descriptions of my favorite puzzles, replayable Mini Games are also available.
1: Find 5 which takes place in the scenes you've visited in the main story. 5 small images are shown for you to "find" somewhere in the scene.
2: Puzzle Boxes, a very addicting game where the goal is to remove all of the different colored boxes in the center by making a match of at least 2 of the same colored boxes. There are boxes on all 4 sides of the field that are used to launch boxes into the field. Show less

*the puzzles are great. skipping some never bothers me so I did ,but some I skipped even were visually beautiful.
*the game has satisfying length and a well worked out time travel plot. starting with a 'how can this be resolved?' element only becoming clear near the end. most games one sees the ending only too soon and slogs on to reach it with flagging interest.
*the fantasy worlds seemed to me to have especially beautiful graphics. I will mention particularly the one where one meets a sort of Yoda character.
*some real sentiment shown at the end. this is a way to make characters real which few games show an understanding of.
It seems that several of the leading developers are over drawn or bankrupt in creativity, and it is all the more happy to find this game which ,having just played another new game from a big dev. and series which was too boring to me even to think further about enough to review, this game which I thoroughly enjoyed. Think you might too!
...
a further thought on plotting. Like almost all games this one requires suspensions of disbelief which are conventional in HOPA games , for example as to why so few characters, why one does some counter intuitive actions to find items not obviously necessary, why a bomb one found has as dramatic an effect as it does etc. Some of this could be avoidable with further creative thought and a few games have shown that. But this one is still a great pleasure.

Plus, I really like the way the game looks. I just wish I had been able to walk out on the balcony in that first scene and look at the view.
Here's the most important part, though. For gamers who are tired of HOS scenes . . . the greatest thing about this game is . . . It lets you skip the HOS scenes entirely!!!! Why didn't any other developer ever think of that? What a brilliant idea!!!!
I feel that there is always a push-pull relationship between the HOS gamers and the adventure gamers. The games are trying to serve the appetites of both groups. This solves the problem. Adventure gamers who like mini games can skip HOS just like HOS lovers have always been able to skip mini games. And people who mostly like wandering around and looking at the pretty scenery can skip both. (Of course, then you're not allowed to complain about the game being short!)
Just because these games seem to have grown out of the HOS genre doesn't mean that the HOSs shouldn't be skippable.
I'm thinking, "Why didn't I ever think of that!! Duh!!"
Kudos, developers. I'm waiting for more great stuff from you. You obviously think outside the box. Show less

Congratulations to BFG for lately offering some great games while we wait for our CE games ... the last three have been great and to boot, sort of free, given we do earn our coupons! But at least we are now getting to use and enjoy them.
This game is fun, puzzles are different, enjoyable and certainly doable! I love that ... I dislike games that you have to be a scientist to solve ... I am in it for a good level of challenge but able to be solved eventually .. on my own and without a hint! These are, plenty of them too!
Graphics are very good, who cares about voice-over as I click through all that anyway! I am not a lover of HO but the few you have are okay, quite easy with a few "thinking" moments but fortunately, I can get through them quickly! Rather puzzles or searching for objects anyway!
This is a great game, thank you again BFG for these little gems of late ... one even was without a single HO scenario, whoohoo! Puts Eepix, Elephant, Mad Head, etc. to shame! I always feel HO moments simplifies the game, easy for the DEVS!
I urge anyone who loves puzzles, lots of them, to get this game especially if you have a coupon or two floating around as you will thoroughly enjoy it. Show less

To me, this game is an outstanding SE. It is puzzle intense and the puzzles are cleverly done with the addition of a logic problem, not normally in the games on this site. The HOP scenes include some creative multi-step ones. There are no VO’s but the graphics are amazing. There is also a Bonus level in this game and achievements.
You will be skipping back-and-forth through time in this game beginning in Egypt. Such a great game. Hopefully we will see more games from this dev! This is a brilliantly designed game!
HERE ARE MORE DETAILS (AKA SPOILERS) FOR THOSE WHO WISH MORE INFORMATION ON THE GAME:
HOP SCENES: The HOP scenes are very creative with varieties of matching, using a telescope to locate items (very innovative), multi-step ones (locating shapes to open a list of items – used twice in the demo).
PUZZLES: There are more puzzles than HOP scenes. The puzzles are excellent. There were several moving tiles puzzles to recreate photos, Match 3 game, mini-logic problem (which I have never seen in any game before), variation of a tanagram puzzle using gems, variation of a checkers game In which you cover up all spaces with gems, spot the differences, variation of pipe puzzle – connecting circuits (used twice), manual dexterity puzzle – shoot the scorpions
LEVELS: 2 – Casual and Hard
EXTRAS:
Map - Provided at beginning of the game
Bonus game: Replay of puzzles plus some additional new ones such as Find 5
16 Achievements
BEST PART OF THE GAME: TARGET PRACTICE WITH THE SCORPIONS! THEY ACTUALLY SHRIEK AS THEY TAKE THEIR FINAL JOURNEY TO THE UNDERWORLD. LET ANUBIS DEAL WITH THESE LITTLE STINGERS! LOL Show less

Review based on completed game + extras
PROLOGUE...
Every so often a game comes along that offers CE extras at an SE price, and Invasion: Lost in Time is one of them. While there’s no bonus game, there is a huge menu of bonus games to play.
ONCE UPON A TIME...
While excavating an ancient Egyptian crypt, your friend Mike uncovers an anachronistic sarcophagus containing both a cellphone and the well-preserved body of a human being who looks like his identical twin. He calls on you to help him investigate. While exploring the tomb further, you discover a strange device which Mike believes to be a time machine.
Suddenly, the entrance to the crypt collapses and you and Mike are trapped, leaving you no choice but to use the time machine as your means of escape. Chase the mystery through time and space from ancient Egypt to the Stone Age to the alien planets of Shukaras and Torion. Along your journey, you’ll learn the origins of the Egyptian pantheon and, hopefully, stop an invasion plot.
PLAY THE GAME...
This game is so full of a wide variety of HO scenes, puzzles, and mini-games in a range of difficulty levels that it’s impossible to be bored. HO scenes include interactive list, silhouette, lists behind locked panels, mega-lists, multiples by category, find and use in the scene, and some where you’re merely instructed to interact with the scene…no list or silhouettes. Most were fun because they felt more like you were actually looking for something.
Mini-games and puzzles included some simple ones we’ve seen before, but not many. There are many original games. Here’s a sample:
• Complex Match-3 - Among the symbols are seeds and caterpillars, and your goal is to form a flower and a butterfly as follows:
…3 seeds=1sprout/3 sprouts=1 flower/3 flowers=goal
…3 caterpillars=1 cocoon/3 cocoons=1 butterfly/3 butterflies=goal
• On a grid of numbered squares, choose squares that add up to ten to remove them from the grid in order to find the hidden gems underneath. Plan so you don’t run out of low numbers.
• Slide tokens to their matching pairs to clear the board.
• Deduce the alien numbering system, then fill in the translation grid.
• Swap the pieces among three columns depicting three aliens until the pictures are complete. Some pieces have more than one image.
• Move through a grid gathering all the gems, avoiding the monster who moves exactly opposite from you. Also, make sure he doesn’t collect any gems.
• With five stacks of numbered blocks, combine matching blocks to add them together into one block until you’re left with only one, which totals 2,048. You may only stack lower numbers on higher ones.
• Find a path across the river by jumping on stones. Stones gradually reduce in size, so plan so that you don’t fall in the water.
• Scorpions are moving toward you along a back-and-forth path. Shoot them all before they reach you (requires timing).
• Arrange the paddles to bounce a ball against panels to light them (requires timing).
• Given a pattern of colored boxes on a grid, and panels of colored boxes around the sides, slide boxes in from the sides to their matching colors to clear the grid.
SIGHTSEEING...
The graphics are lovely, with a stunning range of colors. NPCs are extremely realistic. Backgrounds are panoramic and close-ups are incredibly detailed. There’s not a lot of animation, and the lip movements aren’t too lifelike, but it’s a beautiful game nonetheless.
SOUNDBOARD...
I loved the music, even though I noticed a bit of repetition. There was a quite majestic motif that reminded me of the movie Labyrinth, a more lighthearted and upbeat theme, and lots of ambient soundscapes reminiscent of Myst. No voiceovers, but I didn’t miss them. Environmental sounds could have been better, in my opinion.
TOOLBOX...
Nothing fancy. The inventory panel remains open and there are plus items. The jump map shows where actions are available. There’s a journal, but it’s unnecessary. In casual mode, the hint button is available for use continuously (no recharge time).
OH BOTHER!
I encountered no technical difficulties on my iMac using OS 10.11.3. My only real complaints are (1) some of the mini-games needed reset buttons, and (2) the back button click area was too large as I constantly found myself clicking it accidentally.
OOH! PIECE OF CANDY...
An SE with extras! Replay the fabulous puzzles and mini-games, including 20 levels of the last one I described. Revisit the scenes of the game to find five circular sections clipped from each scene. Revisit them again as jigsaw puzzles. And there are performance achievements.
EPILOGUE...
Invasion: Lost in Time is almost a CE for an SE price and is, therefore, totally worth the money. It’s a fairly long game too, and so full of HO scenes, puzzles, and mini-games that you’ll be amazed. This one is all thriller, no filler. Now, I’m off to play the sequel, and I hope to see more from this dev. Happy gaming!
