The story line to this game is excellent. If you have an interest in the Elizabethan Era or not, this game will keep you anxious to find out what happens next.
There are 3 different modes of game play, or there is the custom mode where you can set it as you wish.
The graphics are good; not as sharp as I'd like, but they are clear enough.
The HO's are varied; most of them are just the same old, but there are some interactive scenes that I really had fun with. This game has a lot of areas, so there is some jumping back & forth. Be sure to look close, or you may miss something!
As far as re-play value, I'm not sure. I think it would become an easy & monotonous game if you play it often. The story line is memorable, so it'll still be in your mind the next time you play it.
Over all, this is a great game. I would highly recommend this game to anyone. Show less

Overall: Excellent game, great graphics and entertaining storyline.
Graphics: Excellent with great scenes and design.
Sound and music: Pleasant and appropriate for situations. I turned it down low, but didn’t have to mute it. The voices were pleasant and not over-done.
Hints: Excellent, transported you right to the next task. A few tasks took a little looking around, so if you are transported somewhere, take a moment to look around to see if you are supposed to collect an inventory item.
Hidden Object Games: Varied and beautifully created, the scenes are well developed, the items clear and visible except for a few that give you a bit of a challenge. They used forms vs. words, fine 3-4 of the same type, similar pairs and word lists. Variety was entertaining.
Mini Games: Easy to challenging and varied and no repeats of the same thing, so was enjoyable.
Storyline: The continuity was great and the story flowed nicely, there was a lot of back and forth, but that was easily accomplished with the hint and the characters were interesting and well designed. The villain wasn’t over the top and the focus was on the journey and the tasks required to achieve a rescue.
Other: You get a helper in the form of a rascally pirate who has a big ego, but it’s all in fun. I liked the cat purring at the start of the game. Show less

Help Willa de Shakeston, maid of honor of Queen Elizabeth the First to survive series of misfortune in Spirit of Revenge: Elizabeth's Secret Collector's Edition. First of all her only pupil, Edward de Vere Essay, the only son of deceased Earl of Oxford, Queen’s friend was kidnapped in front of her. Willa has sworn to protect this child! Then when the Queen summoned her to the capital to receive answers and give a new assignment, a strange force attacks her carriage and starts a fire in front of it. Finally the Queen gives her a “helper”, young and impudent Francis (Drake)! With such helpers there’s no need to have enemies! He's an awesome side-kick. Take on the role of Willa to untangle the conspiracy no matter what in this classy Adventure Hidden Object Puzzle Game! The graphics aren't big budget, but the story and game play are!
It not only has startling quests and ritzy opportunities but also loads of thrilling sublevels and meeds. This edition will excite the player's imagination from the beginning to the finale and will bring pleasure into your subsistence! I also recommend Spirit of Revenge: Cursed Castle.

Love, love, loved this game. Story line, graphics and voice acting were just right, and I enjoyed the shock factor here and there - occasionally jumping in my seat!. The 'side kick' had quite a few funny lines, and the puzzles and HOPs were all varied and interesting. I thought the ending was a little abrupt, but it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the game.

Voice overs, music, animation all contribute to a seamless plot from beginning to end. If you get stuck wondering what to do--use your helper Francis Drake to advance to next scene.
I played the SE. You get a peek to a locked door near the end, which probably leads to the CE Bonus game, which I cannot comment on. If you are the type that doesn't like to be tantalized by what's behind the door, then get the CE. The SE by itself was a fantastic game.

The only issue that I had was a technical one. Occasionally if I dropped the screen for too long to net surt, or check out facebook, it would lock up the computer. And one or two puzzles were buggy. BUT, I just rebooted and everything was fine, so it could even be from my end. Just mention it so if it happens to you, you don't get tense about it being a failed game.

Brenda Gale will certainly need her psychology skills as she takes us back in time to Queen Elizabeth the First's court! When the Earl of Oxford passes away unexpectedly, the Queen becomes the ward of the Earl's bright young son, Edward de Vere. The Queen asks her Maid of Honor, Willa de Shakeston, to tutor young Edward, but a revengeful spirit has other plans for Edward. In the blink of an eye, someone otherworldly whisks the boy away without a trace. It's up to Willa to seek the truth behind the revenge, and save young Edward, before it's too late, but the Queen might not want the truth to resurface from her past!
The best part of this entire game, is the delightful antics and quick wit of Francis Drake, Willa's childhood friend, now our accomplice! Francis found himself face to face with the Queen, for all the wrong reasons because of his questionable ethics. Willa persuades the Queen to allow Francis to accompany her on her quest to find Edward. The Queen is skeptical, but grants her wishes stipulating that he must do anything Willa requires. Fortunately, "Frannie" get's to do all the dirty work as your go to guy. When a task requires his skilled services, all you have to do is hand him the tools of the trade from your inventory bar, which is shown as a silhouetted shape above his handsome icon. Francis is so much better than the usual furry friend we get stuck with as a helper, and his character has quite a personality.
I favor the Collector's Edition which has Morphing Objects that up the ante on the number of hints you receive as well as a barrage of Achievements to earn. There are Collectible Words and Phrases in each scene that will form beautiful Poetry when all the phrases and words have been found for each of the four categories. Both Editions have Complex or Plus Sign Inventory items that require some type of interaction before using them such as fixing or combining that item with another inventory item, some of them have a puzzle to solve such as deciphering an encrypted letter from the Queen using a coded card on several symbols so the color coded holes match the correct symbols of red=fire, blue=air and green=earth.
The Hidden Object Scenes are plentiful, challenging and very entertaining. Some scenes use the entire room as a HOP, some of which are your typical HOP in a small zoomed in area. There are Progressive Silhouetted Shape finds where you find the first item that matches the silhouetted shape shown and then use that item within the scene logically (key into lock) to expose the next item, some are Silhouette Shape finds in Multiples such as 3 items of the same shape. There are HOP's where you find objects within a sketch that match keywords given in several phrases. I liked the HOP's requiring you to move several objects, matching logical items underneath them, such as ink and feather quill. The Mini Games aren't really new, but not bad, such as, choosing the correct Shields and Axes to match the Coat of Arms and Knights, using lion head levers to find the desired statues. There are pages in books scenes, and statues that have items in the wrong place that need placed correctly, Coded books that need placed correctly, and a few games that require you to choose three symbols or images that will match the center token when all three are combined. Nothing even remotely difficult, and in my opinion, they are all entertaining.
The Collector's Edition has 9 Wallpaper settings, 9 Concept Art pictures, 8 Music Tracks, 26 Pictures of the VG Team, Morphing Hints, Collectible Poetry Words and Phrases, Achievements, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter, so get your game on and enjoy! Show less

It's 4 1/2 stars, really.
Reviews at the CE location and Pennmom's review here give features and describe the game far better than I can. I write to discuss whether to buy the CE or the SE, because when I am looking at reviews after the SE has come out, it usually means I am unsure which to buy. So I figure you might want to know that, too.
I did not buy the CE because the CE did not offer the opportunity to play the great HOS and mini games over again. That’s why I suggest the SE. I know I will miss the bonus chapter, but that is the only thing of all the extra features that I will miss. I do not understand why CE versions do not always allow replayable HOS and mini games. I notice that Pennmom favors the CE, though, so you will have to decide for yourself.
Otherwise, the art is pretty good, though I wouldn’t call it beautiful. It is clear and easy to see in order to play. The music is not memorable. I don’t remember it, though I noticed it was there. So at least that shows it is not obnoxious music.
The best part of this game--the puzzles and HOS, definitely. These are great puzzles. Not too hard, but fun. And these are great hidden object games. I don't really even like hidden object parts of theses games that much, I like the adventure and puzzle parts much better, but I loved these. They are progressive but the items are not necessarily random. They are more related to the story than most. Having the games more integrated into the story is always better. Remember Myst? The games WERE the story.
I don’t like the story. Here’s what I said in the CE review I wrote:
1) The story seems false to me. Too many things don't ring true. A very few examples are, the coach breaks a wheel and the coachman seems to believe it is serious, yet the coach continues to move forward at a rapid rate. Later, another episode with the coach results in the coachman riding off with the horse. What happened there? And though I agree the Francis Drake character is charming, I don't think that the relationship is one that would exist historically. Plus, why is the heroine, a "maid of honor?" Isn't that a wedding thing? Shouldn't it be "lady in waiting" instead?"
While these things may seem to be quibbles, the story here is pretty prominent and very wordy. It needs to not jar the player.
Upon playing the SE I note that the main character is a "maid of honor” in one place and a "lady in waiting” in another. Nonetheless, I still find the story jarring. For example, in the second scene, Ms. Shakeston turns aside from the ordered visit to the queen to perform a mundane task. The developers, if they felt they needed to insert a game or action at that point, should have thought up a reason to delay Ms. Shakeston from visiting the queen instead of letting her turn aside at a request from a lesser character. I mean, if the queen summoned you, wouldn’t you say that was the most important thing to do?
I’m buying the SE now. Have fun playing this one. It’s good except for the story. Show less

Hello friends! Well, I tried the CE version of this game again and still could not get it to work correctly. Too bad, the beta was a very nice game and I was looking forward to playing. However, I did give the SE a shot and wonder of wonders, it actually worked through the entire demo! Game play was very good and I had none of the same problems with the SE. Colors are very bright and clear. Animation is excellent and voice overs are very well done. Music is nice and sometimes gives you that "edge of your seat" feeling. Warning, if you don't like things jumping out at you, you probably won't like this game. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen.
I really like the HOPs in this game. You have a combination of interactive lists, match pairs, silhouettes and "put this item where it belongs." HOPs are clean and clear and items are not difficult to find, but I did have to stop and think about a couple. Puzzles are interesting and somewhat different. I did not see a jump map in the SE version, unless I missed it somewhere, but the hint system does transport you to longer locations and is quite helpful. Drake will sometimes say you need to move on, but if you back out and ask for another hint, you will get one that heads you in the right direction.
I like the fact that we have a helper who he is a human for a change. My problem was remembering to give him the item I knew needed to be used in the scene, without trying to do it myself first. He adds a bit of comedy to the game as well. Really wish the CE had worked for me, but this is a very nice SE and I am going to add it to my collection. I think all levels of players will find this one fun and with some challenge.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. Thanks for the reviews. Show less
