TITLE: DARK ROMANCE: THE SWAN SONATA CE

MUSIC: I don’t recall, as I turned it down pretty low. I do know they missed a chance to use some of Tchaikovsky’s amazing theme music.

COLLECTIONS 20 Stained glass window pieces, which makes stained glass pictures of Siegfried and Odette. I missed one piece for each of the windows. They were pretty obvious so I must have been distracted by the game! Will be fun to find when I replay.
15 Statuettes: I found them all!
And lastly: Feathers, which you use to purchase clothing and articles for Odette’s boudoir. I ended up with 16 feathers, not quite the 23 I needed for the curtain on her bedstead, but was able to get everything else.

ALT.GAME: Match 3

MAP: Yes, interactive.

PUZZLES: I’m getting better, but I’m still an intermediate when it comes to puzzles. The hard ones were circling puzzles where you have to find the correct places for objects.

STORY LINE: A very much simplified version of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, with a more upbeat ending.

MY TAKE: This is a lovely story and the graphics are rich and colorful. One thing I liked is that there were not as many HOS with just pieces of unidentifiable jewelry (Commonly called FRAGs I believe); I think there were one or two but there was a fine variation in the types of HOS. Adding to the challenge was the point of view switching between Siegfried and Odette, which took some adjusting but added to the game. I give this beautiful game a solid 5!

Happy Sweetest Day! You heart will be aflutter indulging in this sweet love story between the beautiful Odette, and the handsome Prince Siegfried. However, feathers will be flying before these two love birds can feather their love nest. Before tying the knot, this couple will be tied up in a battle with the evil wizard Rothbart and his nasty daughter, Alana. This is a classic love story based loosely on the ballet, “Swan Lake.”

There are more puzzles than HOP scenes in the game. The HOP scenes are varied and include one multi-step one. The scenes include silhouettes, replacement of items back into the scene, and one FROG scene. In Chapter 3, the HOP scenes include a fragmented silhouette scene and a list of items. There was little change from the demo.

Most of the mini-games in the demo are easy and include one multi-step puzzle. There are variations of a lock puzzle, maze puzzle, matching puzzle, uncrossing rope puzzle, logic puzzle, and a bubble popper puzzle. The collectibles are feathers to “feather your future love nest.” Also locate statuettes for the couple’s wedding cake and stained glass window pieces for a jigsaw puzzle. All collectibles are easy to locate and practically jump out at you. In Chapter 3 the mini-games include a moving tiles puzzle and a sliding tiles puzzles. There was a very unique, somewhat difficult jigsaw puzzle to solve which requires enlarging and moving pieces into place.

Hopefully this LOVE FEST will turn into a LOVE NEST for our two love birds! In a nice change from other games, you will need to play two characters in the game – both Odette and Siegfried. Will these star-crosses lovers ever make it to the altar or will the love of Siegfried’s life, Odette just fly away?

A. FROG scene in which you create three inventory items to be used in the scene
B. Silhouette scene. Locate items and replace them back into the scene. Puzzle-like. You must locate the perform some actions before getting all the inventory items
C. Multiple step HOP scene. Variation of a silhouette. Locate a certain number of the same item. Followed by a list of items to locate
D. Silhouette scene. Locate items and replace them back into the scene.
AFTER THE DEMO:
E. Fragmented silhouette scene. Locate a number of the same item to remove the silhouette.
F. List of items to locate

MINI-GAMES: You have the option to play a thematic Match 3 game instead
A. Variation of a lock puzzle and a sequence puzzle. Open up a lock using a makeshift lock pick. Move each of two picks in the correct sequence to remove the pegs on the lock EASY
B. 3 part mini-game. 1. A variation of a maze puzzle. By deduction, choose the correct route to the castle. 2. Followed by a variation of a matching puzzle. Find two of the same creature to remove them from the scene. 3. After clearing the animals from the scene, untangle a rope so that lines do not cross each other. You will repeat this sequence 3 times. With each sequence the rope puzzle gets a little more difficult. EASY TO MODERATE DIFFICULTY

Finally, a new type of story, loved it. The swan princess and a little more mixed in. Colorful scenery, great interactive HOS's and not so many you moaned at having to search for something. The mini games were challenging. All the aspects I look for in a good entertaining game!

I see that the two other reviews desrcibe many of the puzzles as easy. Some of them takes two seconds to complete. But they are so many, and I love them. Some I have never seen before. I judge a game by the puzzles. I have played puzzle games for over 30 years and I had to skip 3 of them. That is how I know that I love a game, that the challenge is too hard on some of the puzzles. Note: These games are somewhat older, but the feel of the game is the same as this and all of them are TRULY GORGEOUS!

There are bright blue skies, flower gardens and flowering trees galore and adorable animals in every scene.

The portal task map is a work of art all by itself....and if you want to re-watch those cutscenes this is where they can be replayed. Characters notes are also in the maps area.

COLLECT- statues, stained glass pieces and feathers. Each has its own page, and the feathers are used to buy things for a bedroom you can "dress up". Kids will love this feature. I would rather have had a screensaver to save to my computer as a reminder of how beautiful the game is and to buy the next segment out of the game.

In one spot the baddy in the game creates a wall of water which covers the scene and fills your monitor which makes your monitor look like an aquarium because of the adorable goldfish that floats through! Such innovation and perfectly executed.

One of the minigames is 3 separate scenes where you match adorable animals. I loved it.

This game is like playing in a happy little painting, and the time spent playing it just leaves you in a good mood, like seeing a great movie. Well done! Thank you Domini, and BFG!!! Show less

The graphics are excellent in this ole grannny's opinion. Yes, there is a dark side to the story line but the graphics are still bright and colorful which makes this a top notch gaming experience. I'd imagine romance novels are mostly read by the gals. This game is a HOPA version of a romance novel. It is very well done. In a story line synopsis Prince Siegfried meets and falls in love with a beautiful gardener named Odette. A wedding is planned but is foiled by the evil wizard Rothbart who performs tricks to enable a marriage between Siegfried and Rothbart's daughter Alana ( who to me looks exactly like the female rapper Nicki Minaj ) . The game is very nice on the eyes as Domini Games has created a visually stunning effort. One of the better features has the player performing both as Odette and Siegfried as the pair have been separated and they must work individually to reunite and foil the nefarious plans of Rothbart and Alana. Gameplay itself is interesting as some clever interactive HO segments requiring a bit more thought than is seen in lots of games are provided. The puzzles ( demo only ) are rather routine and easy to complete. Some have 2 parts, such as matching identical animals and then unravelling knots to progress to another part of the game landscape. There are feathers to collect which end up in a boudoir that I chose not to visit. Figurines of game characters are there to pick up also.
The demo ends as Odette frees herself from bondage in a prison cell after she realizes Rothbart's plan to wed his daughter to the prince.

I own lots of fantasy HOPA's and Dark Romance 3 is of that ilk. As stated earlier, the ladies should find this game quite appealing. I'll need to think a bit before deciding if I want the game. I give a 5 star rating for the superb development of the game. I personally need to overcome the romance novel aspect of the story before I elect to take a plunge. All in all, Swan Sonata is a fine effort. Show less

-And then when the princess goes to get her grandmother’s blessing because she’s doing everything proper? What? And how does a servant girl’s grandmother own such a big house? I thought she was a servant in this big house until the lock to “my grandmother’s house” didn’t work.
-There then are all these potions on a table, but you aren't supposed to make one of your own even though you acquire water other ingredients that could be used to make one. Instead, eventually you find one somewhere.
-The guard won't let you in, but then suddenly, you are in anyway. How?

I try to ignore illogical stories, but this one's really dumb. I’m having fun, but, really! Some logic would be nice! . . . And it continues even in small ways. Why is there a flower blossom in a hollow tree? Why are wild animals jumping into cages on their own?

Other comments:
-The art is ok, though sometimes it seems as if the perspective is off.
-The music is sort of schmalzy, but I guess it’s supposed to be a romance. I won't care if I ever hear it again.
-There's a bonus game, but if the illogic continues, will I want to play it?
-Inadequate directions--in the second HOP, there's a fun little mini-game within, but I didn't realize it was even there, and the hint kept taking me back to the HOP. Finally I randomly clicked around and figured it out.
-You can't go back. For example, once you leave your grandmother's house, you are done there.
-I never had to use the strategy guide.

Missed opportunities by dev’s to give us more fun while playing:
1. The first HOP is strange because the directions say to find all the pieces of the objects and then use the objects, but after you complete the objects, they fly on their own to where they are supposed to be used.
2. The stained glass pieces that are prizes place themselves in the resultant window instead of letting us work it like a puzzle. What a waste.

So, the game plays smoothly, if illogically. The “progressive” games you play to move through the adventure are fun. The "Extras" features are all there. Try it. Yes, it is silly, but you will probably have fun. Show less
