The CE is Solitaire Heaven

This review is based on the completed Collector’s Edition. This is fun, easy, relaxed gameplay. I love this game, both the main game and the bonus chapter. I like the nostalgic graphics and found them charming. The graphics are less sophisticated than what you might find from some developers. However, I like these types of graphics. I compare them to the original Disney cartoons which were hand drawn and more appealing. The later Disney cartoons rely heavily on CGI and have lost the character and soul that came through in the hand-drawn illustrations. That’s how this game felt to me.

I enjoyed this storyline. The music and voiceovers suited the story and never became annoying for me. I really liked the HOPs, but if you don’t want to play them, you can choose to play solitaire instead. The solitaire that is available in each HOS is pyramid solitaire. You clear the pyramid by removing pairs of cards that total 13.

The HOS’s were very easy and so were the puzzles. I didn’t have to skip any puzzles, and I almost always have to skip at least one. (The puzzles were more challenging in the bonus chapter. There is a guide, and I had to consult it on one of the bonus puzzles.) The game never became frustrating, and I appreciate that. I really dislike games that become frustrating since I mostly play to relax.

My favorite part of this game is the bonus content in the collector’s edition. The bonus content includes 6 different games of solitaire, and I love solitaire.

The games of solitaire include: Pyramid, Baroness, Golf, The Wish, Monte Carlo, and Accordion.

Pyramid is the same game available in each HOS throughout the main game and bonus chapter. Baroness is similar to it, in that you clear the table by removing pairs that total 13, but the setup is totally different. In Golf, you’re clearing the table by moving all cards to the foundation. The sequence is one up or one down. In The Wish game, you remove cards from piles in pairs. In the Monte Carlo game, you pair cards with adjacent cards. In the Accordion, you have to consolidate the entire pack into one pile. I found it to be the most confusing one to figure out.

This is the first game I’ve played where I liked the bonus content even more than the actual game. I usually remove a game after I’ve played it, but because of the solitaire games, I’ll be leaving this one on my computer for quite some time. This has now become my go-to game for solitaire. I am unsure of why reviewers are so quick to give a negative response on a good game! I am weary of seeing the "sainted games" get all the great advertising and undeserved five star reviews.

Having said that, the story is the game and this one has a true mystery to solve which is something to look forward to for we gamers---or we Detectives! I like straight forward and would like to see more of these older game styles brought back as there is much too much glitter and glitz and not enough gaming substance.

Small Town Terrors has not disappointed gamers so far and this game is no exception! For this buy one, get one weekend, Galdor's Bluff is an immediate purchase to add to my BFG collection! Enjoy! -Mama Mia- Show less

I liked the game, it was straightforward, relatively easy and that’s the sort of game I wanted to play today. I purchased the game and was pleased to see they had a buy 1 get 1 free deal because there was another game I also wanted. I played about another hour after the demo and am enjoying it.

Inventory: It’s lockable

Music: I didn’t take much notice of it but that does mean it wasn’t annoying otherwise I would have turned it off.

Voices: Very good clear voices and the lip synch was good too.

Map: It’s a jump map which shows you where to go but sometimes it’s not that helpful.

HOPS: There were quite a lot of them, mainly lists of objects to find, or objects to find in the scene in order to return them to their rightful place. Not really very interactive. Alternatively you can Play a Solitaire Card game instead.

Mini Games/Puzzles: All do-able although one took me a fair bit of time.

Morphing Objects: There are 37 to collect and are relatively easy to spot.

Achievements: There are 15 of them and you can view them in the Bonus Content..

Extras: Concept Art, Wallpapers and Solitaire Game which gives you a choice of 6 different types to play.

There were a couple of things that I felt were wrong, firstly the Strategy Guide returns to the Home page when you close it which is annoying. Secondly it tells you to use the chalk that you were given after playing a HOP to play a mini game but I wasn’t given a piece of chalk. I resigned myself to skipping the mini game as I couldn’t progress further, however when I moved the cursor over the puzzle it became the chalk. I hope that tip helps as I was wandering around for about 10 minutes looking for it. Show less

I loved the game in general and was very impressed with the story handled in the bonus chapter. Shades of Harry Potter!
For someone like me to actually get all the achievements is unreal! First time that's happened in a while. The circle puzzle which I had to skip in the main game worked fine in the bonus puzzles and I completed it there before I played the bonus game thus earning the non-skip achievement.
The guide irritated me though- kept going back to the beginning. The morphing objects were very easy to spot and the map worked very well.
Yes the whole game was quite short but for thinking out of the box and keeping me interested enough to keep looking - THANKS to the developers!
Overall though I had a lot of fun and will play this game again without hopefully needing the guide at all
Try it - you may be surprised how easily you get sucked into this magical world. Show less

One thing I loved was the English accents, the graphics were also very good, the only criticism I have is, although the map is interactive, for me it wasn't in depth enough, when you are in the castle and the mansion, the map doesn't say where there is a place you have to be, other than that, it's great.

although it wasn't super hard I greatly enjoyed, it was a nice storyline and it wasn't a lot of dark magic and evil or witches. I had such a great time playing this game, first time in a lng time.
