The exciting plot is packaged in attractive graphics with appropriate but subtle background music. As usual, the characters are beautifully presented.
There is a good number of HOs in which, e.g. in addition to the usual list search, you have to partially interact or guess the right object from puzzle pictures. The large selection of minigames caters to all tastes and some of the puzzles are pretty difficult (at least for me). The rotating and sliding puzzles in particular are always a big challenge for me.
As usual, morph objects (you really need a magnifying glass for some of them) and other objects are hidden in the pictures again, which unfortunately cannot be searched after completing the game.
The game is a good length - it took me 7 hours including the bonus part - and I really enjoyed it.

REVIEW BASED UPON THE ENTIRE GAME
4 Chapters Plus a Bonus Chapter – Strategy Guide: 48 pages (My Time: 7 Hours)
Brave the ice and snow as you travel to the kingdom of Wintersea which has been ravaged by the angry Spirit of Ice and Cold, Nega. Nega is out for revenge and her cold rage has driven out Arkanius, the Spirit of Fire who has provided warmth for the kingdom. You, as a novice healer, must stop this avenging spirit.
I was ecstatic to see another game by this developer. Domini Games is my favorite developer and, despite the one error in the strategy guide, they have provided another fantastic game. This is a very long game; however, the time went by quickly playing it, and feel it has a good pace. The game follows the same pattern as Domini’s other games. There are three (3) collectibles, some type of gimmick used within the game, and two levels of difficulty for the mini-games which can be set within the menu of the game.
I enjoyed the game and am always amazed at the creative genius of this developer. This developer always provides more game for the money and this game is no exception. The gimmick is a bestiary which is used to tame monsters and return them to normal animals. There is a puzzle which is played before the bestiary can be used to return the monster to its normal animal self. The bestiary is used six (6) times within the game.
The collectibles are morphing spirit amulets and spellbooks. I found the amulets difficult to locate; however, I found the spellbooks easy to find. There are spheres to collect (within the closeup scenes) which can be exchanged to fill a barn with magical animals.
***OH NO! NOT AGAIN! WHERE ARE THE SCREENSHOTS LABELED “F”? There is only one minor error in this game. The four screenshots for the collectibles labeled “F” are missing. I was able to locate them, however, but I do like to check those screenshots to be assured I am not missing any collectibles. I wish BFG would proof these games before they are released. This is the second week that a game with errors was released.
BONUS GAME: It is a sequel, one month after the end of the main game. The spirit world is in chaos again, as a human, Milena tries to steal the power from the Spirit of Fire, Arkanius. You will again battle another misguided spirit out for revenge. I found this a wonderful addition to the main game. There are five (5) HOP scenes and nine (9) mini-games! No other developer provides the number of activities this developer provides in their bonus chapters. This is a long chapter and worthy every penny of the additional cost of a collector’s edition game.
HOP SCENES: What fantastic HOP scenes! I used to look forward to this developer’s puzzles; however, nowadays, I also look forward to their HOP scenes. They are exquisite and many of them are puzzle-like themselves. Domini provides a variety of different styles of scenes, many with two or three scenes in which to locate items. There are eighteen (18) HOP scenes and all of them can be replayed upon completion of the game. They include the usual standard lists of items and silhouette scenes. However, there are also rebus clues (my favorite), item replacement scenes, matching, and those with highlighted items in a story format. As in their other games, a Match-3 game can be played instead of the scenes.
MINI-GAMES: There are thirty-four (34) puzzles, eighteen (18) of which can be replayed upon completion of the game. Our “puzzlemeister” has provided another game with outstanding, thematic puzzles. I just love the puzzles within Domini’s games. Most of them are offered in both an easy and hard version. I especially loved the variation of the “Queens 8” puzzle in the bonus chapter. They have tweeked it somewhat, and although I normally can play this puzzle blindfolded (having played it many times), I found this variation challenging. Again, most of the puzzles can be played in either an easy version or a hard version. Domini is truly the best puzzle designer on this gaming site. Truly exquisite puzzles!
SPOILERS: HERE ARE SOME OF THE MINI-GAMES FROM THIS GAME: (E = Easy; H = Hard)
A. Switch puzzle. Move snowflakes on the right side of the grid and flames on the left along connecting tracks so that their positions are reversed.
B. E/H. Bestiary Puzzle - Checkers puzzle. Remove all tokens on a board by jumping over them to remove them. The hard version has more tokens to remove
C. E/H. Assembly puzzle. Choose symbols on rocks, which, when combined, will create a given emblem in the center. The easy version has 2 emblems to create; the hard version has 3 to create, with the symbols located by lamplight.
D. E/H. Slider puzzle. Slide rows of musical notes up/down and sideways until all the same-colored notes are within the same row. The easy version has 3 rows, while the hard version has 4
E. E/H. Assembly puzzle. Rotate blue marbles with pins emanating from them so that a design is created matching that on a given diagram. The hard version has more marbles to rotate within its design.
F. E/H Paint puzzle. Paint 3 parts of a symbols shown in the center of the screen using the 3 primary colors. In the hard version, the 3 primary colors must be combined to create other colors 5X
G. E/H Bestiary Puzzle - Connection puzzle. Make all the symbols on a grid the same. There are 5 symbols used, and it must be done within a specific number of turns. The easy version has colored symbols but the hard does not have any color designated on the symbols. The easy version allows 10 moves and only 6 in the hard version.
H. E/H. Riddle me this. Answer riddles by clicking on the proper item on a shield. The hard version supposedly has harder questions; however, I found no difference in difficulty.
I. E/H. Tangram puzzle. Place kitchen utensils on a grid so all are placed, and none overlap each other. The hard version has more items to place.
BONUS CHAPTER:
J. E/H. Switch puzzle. Switch wolves on the left with the lambs on the right. As you move them on the paths, the wolves cannot be next to the lambs. The easy version has 3 of each and the hard version has 4 of each.
K. E/H. Connection puzzle. Place a pin within holes in a map. The pins must connect with each other without returning to the same hole. The hard version has a more difficult pattern for the pins.
L. E/H. Queens 8 puzzle. Place Queens into position on a chess board so no two are in the same row, column nor diagonal. The easy version provides a hint
***I did not deduct a star for this error because it did not interfere with the ability to play the game. It is within the strategy guide and not within the game itself. Show less

Not played any HOPA's for a while now, as they seem to be less and less interesting. Not enough devs around these days; I can't help wondering where they've all gone. I suspect it's that games for PC's are going the way of the dinosaur, since pretty much everyone has a smartphone glued to their hands nowadays, so games are made for tiny screens. Not for me though; I'll stick to my PC, thanks!
I'm not quite sure why I like this game but I do! Whilst the tasks are nothing new, some are done in a novel way and I do like tackling monsters with the help of my bestiary. A mini-game is attached to each battle but they're all different. The HOP scenes are nicely done with variety and creativity; the puzzles are not really anything new but some are done with a twist you might not have seen before. They can be either easy or hard; player's choice. The graphics are crystal clear and the colour palette uses pastel shades.
There are perhaps slightly more puzzles than HOP's but it's not overdone one way or the other. By the end of the demo I was really into the game and want to find out what happens after the Ice Spirit......well, I'll leave that for you to find out!
My only complaint is that yet again, everyone speaks with an American accent. Domini needs to realise that not everyone who plays/buys games from BFG is from the USA. In this particular setting, the accents sound out of place and not in keeping with the feel of the game. Otherwise, it's a nice game and a buy for me. Show less

"Domini Games brings you a new sensational series"... Scorned Spirits, Eternal Winters, Magical Creatures, Bestiary Books, an old lady mentor, Healer in training...does any of this sound familiar? Does this sound like a brand new "sensational" series game? Do you have Deja Vu like I do? Are we being duped...again?
Gadgets/Helper:
Domini always includes a Gadget of some sort, and this new series just so happens to have the same exact Bestiary Book feature as Spirit Legends, what a coincidence!??? The Bestiary Book is used 5 times in the Main Chapters only (No Bestiary Book used in the CE Bonus Chapter) When the Bestiary Book starts to shake, rattle, and wiggle-jiggle, that's your cue to don your superhero Cape & Mask and put your Healer Skills to the test! (hmmm, wasn't I a Healer in Spirit Legends too??) This is no time to panic Healer, just grab the book from the left side of the inventory bar and throw it at that hideous beast...okay, I'm exaggerating a bit...it's more like a gentle lob? Before the beastly Beast is destroyed, you'll play a quick mini-game, that varies with each beast, and voila! the dastardly beast turns into a docile pet... awe, that's so adorable that the Beasts love puzzles too :)
There are no coincidences here, Domini has been trying to boost their plummeting ratings lately by slapping a shiny new series label on every new release. Clearly, they didn't wake up one morning and announce to their team that they were going to create 9 new game series this month! Anyone who has played Domini Games over the years can surely recognize the familiar themes here and realize that one new series is exactly like the old "Fatal Evidence" series, the next one is exactly like "Dark Romance" or "Enchanted Kingdom"? Every feature, including the theme of "Spirit Chronicles" is 100% the same as the old series "Spirit Legends" it's practically the same title Spirit Chronicles versus Spirit Legends! All Domini is doing is grabbing finished games from series that were tanking, and putting a new title on it because everyone knows that a new series gets more attention (and better ratings) just because it's shiny-brand new!
Clearly, they are aware that there is a problem, clearly, they know the ratings are tanking but instead of addressing the root problem, they are choosing to play a Cup & Shell game to trick us. I used to think that they couldn't figure out why their fans were turning against them, but clearly, they just don't care if they are willing to use deceptive practices. They want to make money without putting forth any effort, they have a format and they aren't willing to stray from this format so they continue to copy/paste formats from one game to the next, all of which are geared towards Beginner players even though 90% of their audience has been playing Domini Games for 10 to 20 years!
Audio/Visuals:
I can never really find fault with the audio or graphics in a Domini game, the graphics are really good but they do tend to be overzealous with the color palette. Lately, this is the only aspect of their games that really shines with superior quality, the stories are unimaginative and the tasks are so repetitive that surely even a beginner would take notice? Domini is also known for adding items that can be interacted with but as you'll soon discover, these interactions become a rarety after the demo portion!
Collectibles/Morphing Objects (CE version only)
Once again, there are a gazillion Missing Notes to discover which is the most worthless and uninteresting feature of all time. There are 15 Morphing Amulets and 15 Spell Books, and 70 Zoom Zone Energy Sphere Coins used to purchase 15 Barn Animals that are clustered in the center of the page...they couldn't even bother to place them thoughtfully around an actual barn or place them in stalls or paddocks?? There is an optional Collection Icon Tab that can be enabled or disabled in the settings menu which will light up when there is a collectible in the current scene. You can also choose to show/hide the availability of collectibles on the Map.
Hidden Object Scenes:
There are 12 Hidden Object Scenes +4 in the CE Bonus Chapter. The Hidden Object Scenes range from simplistic Listed Item Finds to variations such as Silhouetted Shape Finds, Symbol Findsm, Multiples of the Same Item, Matching Pairs or Pairs of Related Objects, Keywords in Sentence Finds, or Replacing Items into the Scene, I did enjoy the scene where you had to pick the correct dog after reading a brief description about its habits, appearance, or breed traits.
Alternate Match 3 Game:
There is an alternate Match 3 Game available if you don't want to play a Hidden Object Scene, which still doesn't allow you to make consecutive matches quickly because you have to wait for all tiles to stop falling before you can make the next match which makes the game super boring. The M3 boards are always square and they never add obstacles or new features to make it progress in difficulty. FYI: one of the achievements requires you to play the alternate Match 3 game in place of the HOS. (just once)
Mini-Games:
There are 25 Mini-Games +8 in the CE Bonus Chapter. You can choose to play them in an Easy or Hard difficulty mode and you can choose which mode to have them start out in the Custom Setting (you can still switch between modes for each individual game) Here are brief descriptions of the games I found to be more entertaining:
1-Jump pegs until only one peg remains.
2-Select 2 partial symbols to recreate the symbols shown.
3-Click on glass pieces with hinges to align correctly.
4-Rotate gems with pipes to recreate the pattern shown.
5-Place kitchen utensils on a grid without overlapping.
Bonus Chapter (CE Version Only)
Milena is causing havoc when she tries to steal powers from the Spirit of Fire just one month after the last incident! There are 8 additional Mini-Games and 4 Hidden Object Scenes with 7 additional scene locations..You will continue searching for the final gazillion notes, 3 Morphing Amulets, 3 Spell Books, and 6 Zoom Zone Energy Orb Coins which allows you to purchase the final Barn Animals.
Collector's Edition Extra's: (CE version only)
15 Wallpapers, 15 Concept Art Pictures, 5 Music Soundtracks, 27 Movie Video Cutscenes, 35 Achievements, 18 Replayable Mini-Games, 18 Replayable Hidden Object Scenes, 15 Morphing Amulets, 15 Spell Books, a gazillion Missing Notes, 70 Zoom-Zone Energy Orb Coins, 15 Barn Animals (purchase using coins) 4 Main Chapters, +Bonus Chapter, and a Built-In Strategy Guide.

I've played this game too many times before to enjoy playing it again. Yes, I know it's a new game, but it's an old and tired plot with the SOSO things to do. On top of that, I had to turn off the music because it was beyond irritating. I don't want another "bestiary." I do not recommend this game.

Again I fail to see anything special, which should not be the case with a Domini game. After playing the entire demo I came away with the usual disappointing feeling and lack of interest in the slowly unfolding events.
I did enjoy the creative HOPs, a good fun variety. Did not see the point of the huge chain and padlock which indicated over-clicking. It was unnecessary. Loved the puzzles, played in Hard Mode but they created no difficulty headaches, did not have to skip any. I tried the M3 but quickly exited because it was too simple and kind of clunky as always. I use to be more into the HOPs in Domini games but lately I'm more drawn to the puzzles, probably because they are more challenging.
There were so many tasks to muddle through. Healing, seeking and gathering ingredients, mixing, repairing. It was not my idea of fun, nor did I like engaging the Bestiary gimmick. It had to be used several times in the demo, thus opening a puzzle each time. They weren't difficult, were easily skipped, but annoying nonetheless. I just don't like gimmicks!
The collectibles were very small and obscure, mostly hidden in dark areas. The pop-out tabs helped keep track of them. always a welcomed feature. The game moved along without any glitches, music was okay. Graphics were sharp but the blue and snowy scenes didn't appeal to me. The characters were well rendered, I always love the costumes from long ago eras, voices were so-so and not unbearable to listen to, as sometimes happens with bad voice actors. The fiery beast was cartoonish. The Griffins were cool, wish I could saddle up for a ride!
I found nothing outstanding about any part of the demo. I no longer regard Domini as one of our finest developers. They slipped a few significant notches, IMO, not using their creative talents as meticulously as they did in the not-so-distant past. They never offer anything new that captures my interest enough or inspires me to make a mad dash to the Buy Button. I use to buy just about everything that had Domini's name attached. I think the CEs are lacking in extra content and we always know to expect the same format with the collectibles in every game. The only time the tasks change is when they include healing, and mixing potions. But I am glad that today's game has nothing to do with the paranormal and demons. I've become tired of it only because it's the basis of just about every story out there.
If only the demo would allow us earlier access into the adventure! Dealing with all the mundane dilly-dally begins to smother my enthusiasm and I'm ready to call it quits sooner than later, but I always make a point of completing the demo. For me it's important to experience more of the story and the involvement of the characters when considering a purchase. Spirit Chronicles is a fairly new series and might offer some great stories up the road. Hopefully the games will also include something new with the CE extra content. Try the demo to sample what's ahead. You may enjoy this game much more than I did, I just prefer fewer tasks and puzzles, and more adventure. Show less

And we have another brand-new game from Domini using the exact same mechanics that it bakes into every other game. How many times do we search for a fan to disperse smoke? How many broken key fixes do we get to perform? How often do we have to go search for some ridiculous object to do something when there is a tool that could do it laying nearby? The suspense is awe-inspiring. Sorry. I gave it a try and this is just another repetitive, clichéd game like most Domini games. Since these come out so frequently, perhaps BFG should change its name to DG. At some point, you'd think DG would actually read these reviews and decide it should make some changes. Instead, the same formula continues. Like most BFG players, I'm saving money and playing older games that actually have quality and hold my interest. Show less
