REVIEW FROM COMPLETED GAME AND BONUS
What a fabulous time travel game and I enjoyed every minute of it. In this game you once again play Susan who has to kill Cassandra in the past on orders from Maaron. There is:
* Casual, Advanced, Hard and Custom modes;
* Voiceovers (with dialogue);
* Interactive map;
* Diary.
The graphics are gorgeous and very well defined. Each scene is beautiful and very clear to see. Sound is good and the music is orchestral and now well familiar as it has been played in the previous Lost Lands games to keep you company.
The hidden object games are silhouette where you have to find one item to use to find another, etc. I loved doing these as they had a pretty good challenge to them and you also have little mini-games in them as well.
The mini-games ranged from easy to hard. Some took me ages to accomplish, however they are fun to do and I was never bored or felt out of my depth.
The interactive map works well and it also shows what morphs or collectibles need to be found in each scene just in case you need it. This time I didn't need to use the interactive map, but I have used it before in a previous game.
Keep an eye on your diary as it shows things that you need to know to progress through the game.
So, do you get the CE or SE? In the CE, the bonus game is how it all began, there are 22 Achievements; 22 replayable mini-games, 7 replayable puzzles and 20 extra puzzles (after you complete the game). In each scene there is a morph and a collectible to find and 12 roses in the bonus. You can turn also turn the "hand" off to make it more challenging. This is the only developer I know who does this and I thank them from the bottom of my heart. Personally I think the CE is preferable because you can then get the full story about Maaron and Cassandra with lots of extras.
All up the game, bonus and extra 20 puzzles took me a good 10 hours to complete. I truly loved the story and mechanics of this game and that is why I have all this developer's games.
Overall a terrific game and so worth buying. Happy playing fishies. Show less

The evil sorceress Cassandra has finally woken up after her centuries of imprisonment and captured her former student Maaron with the help of Arachnoids, her loyal servants. Can you (Susan) travel back in time to correct the past and help Fiona, Maaron’s great-granddaughter, bring Maaron back from Casandra’s grasps?
In the world of HOPA, where recycling concepts and plotlines is the easy way out for many developers, FIVE-BN wowed me yet again with another unique and compelling Lost Lands sequel. After what seemed like the conclusion to the Lost Lands series in Ice Spell, the series wastes no time to rebound right back with an action-packed, story-driven opening sequence in Mistakes of the Past. While the main plot in the game is pretty typical for a HOPA game, the game includes just enough complex backstories and fascinating details to make this a captivating experience from beginning to end. The gameplay also benefits from having a solid, consistently paced storyline. The adventure gameplay is perfectly interwoven into the storyline, and it includes both the usual mundane tasks as well as some unconventional ones. The hidden object scenes are mostly interactive and progressive, they could have been a little more innovative but for me they were very entertaining! Lost Lands: Mistakes of the Past is heavier on the puzzles than the hidden object scenes, and luckily the puzzles here are creative and enjoyable, despite being slightly on the easy side.
Lost Lands: Mistakes of the Past is known for its cinematic quality and this sequel certainly does not disappoint in that regard. The stunning visuals and the epic musical scores are perfect for high-stakes games such as this. The animations and the cut-scenes are also some of the best in business. If I wanted to be really picky, I would say that the location designs could have been a little more creative, but that issue is offset by just how spectacular the visuals are.
I chose to play the CE version and it took me five hours to complete the main game and I do not regret a single second of it and am playing it a second time today! The bonus chapter shifts the focus to the backstory and has a satisfying length of roughly 50 minutes. Lost Lands: Mistakes of the Past is offered as a Collector’s Edition, which includes a strategy guide, wallpapers, concept art, videos, soundtracks, re-playable mini-games, achievements, morphing objects, and a wide array of collectibles. I love this series and I hope fans will enjoy this edition as much as I did. Cheers!
In this series:
•Lost Lands: Dark Overlord
•Lost Lands: The Four Horsemen
•Lost Lands: The Golden Curse
•Lost Lands: The Wanderer
•Lost Lands: Ice Spell
•Lost Lands: Mistakes of the Past

I have all the Lost Lands games. I absolutely love them. They are very involved. Run for a long time. Love the Characters. Hours of fun. I highly recommend any Lost Land game. I do suggest though you start with the first one and if you like it, go on from there. The first one is The Four Horsemen.

The only reason I have downgraded my Star rating for this Standard Edition version is that I prefer the CE version which has Morphing Objects and several categories of Collectibles. If you don't care about a quality storyline, then you probably won't get what all the fuss is about, but if you are searching for HOPA games with really good stories to back up your adventures, then Five-Bn Games have just what you're looking for. Not just with this game, but with every game in this series, in fact, all of their game series!
I prefer the CE version because of the CE bling, but if you don't care about morphs and collectibles, this SE is perfectly fine. Here's a recap of my review to help you decide which version, if either, is right for you:
Holy Arachnoids, those spiders are ginormous! Mistakes have been made in the past alright, a deadly Black Widow Spider must have hooked up with Godzilla! Susan has been summoned once again to the Lost Lands, but something's definitely different this time. (did I mention there are ginormous spiders?) This isn't the Lost Lands of the past, and Maaron is nowhere to be seen. If Maaron didn't summon Susan, who did, and why?
Lost Lands is one of my favorite game series, (& my favorite dev) I fell in love with it the moment little Jimmy got swallowed by a tree! Susan is a relatable character, and this dev does an amazing job connecting you emotionally to the storyline. The CG graphic video cutscenes are extremely realistic, but what I like the most about Lost Lands, is that it's not a cookie-cutter game, they never are. You probably won't come across all the standard cliche tasks like wrapping a rag around a shard of glass and finding a smoker to drive away bees, and that's so refreshing and so appreciated! Another cool feature they offer in the CE version is that for each group of collections, morphs and manuscripts completed, you will earn an Achievement AND you'll receive a new Puzzle or Mini-Game in the Bonus Levels section! (Collector's Edition version only)
The Hidden Object Scenes are Interactive-Progressive Silhouetted-Shape Puzzles. If you are not familiar with this type of Hidden Object Scene, you're in for a treat, because nobody does this style of HOP as well as this developer, and all of their games have it! You must find an object within the scene, that matches one of the Silhouetted Shapes shown in the Inventory Bar. Then you click on various Zoom Zones to find where the item can be used Interactively, which will expose the next Silhouetted Shape item that will be used in the next Zoom Zone until you Progress through all of the items. There is usually a small puzzle to solve as well. I love this type of HOP, they aren't just brainless click-fests, and they are really fun to solve!
The Mini-Games are awesome! Many of the puzzles make you refer to your good old-fashioned Journal, remember those days! I've always thought mini-games were lame when a slip of paper would appear with the solution code written on it. Why do they even bother including a game that has already basically been solved? It says or shows you everything you have to do, right in front of your face! I love the journal aspect, and it would be even more awesome if the entry wasn't needed to solve an immediate puzzle, but several pages later, so you'd have to scan through the journal entries to find what you need. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo, and they get even better afterward:
1-Place various sized boards w/o overlapping to create stairs.
2-Unscramble the stone letter blocks to create the correct name.
3-Enter the correct code you've seen before, or refer to the journal.
4-Open all clamps in the correct order by trial & error.
5-Place figurines so that they are all holding hands around the circle.
6-Enter the correct date and time you heard earlier or refer to your journal.
7-Create a path to get new boards & then to connect 3 dots.
8-Scan the area with a magnet to find the hidden item.
The Collector's Edition version has 10 Wallpapers, 12 Concept Art Pictures, 16 Movie Video Cutscenes, 8 Music Soundtracks, 22 re-playable Mini-Games, 7 re-playable Puzzles, (more are added when you complete the collections, morphs & manuscripts) 22 Achievements to earn, 7 Collectible Posters, 7 Collectible Bloody Palms, 8 Collectible Funeral Urns, 8 Collectible Arachnoid Gold Spiders, 12 Collectible Roses, 9 Collectible Lost Lands Manuscripts, 30 Morphing Objects (Custom mode allows you to turn on/off the option of the cursor changing over collectibles & on/off option of showing collectibles on the Map) 3 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter (very long chapters) enjoy fixing Maaron's Mistakes of the Past!
