fromAlthough not the best scenario, Evelyn (our heroine in this game) should be thankful that the admirer she is “faced” with in the bonus chapter is “faceless.” That is certainly a better option than one who is “two-faced!”

REVIEW GASED UPON THE ENTIRE GAME
6 Chapters Plus a Bonus Chapter – Strategy Guide: 53 Pages
OPINION: “Trolling” for a great game to play? This fantastic game may fit the bill. As with all their other games, Domini provides more game for the money. It is a long game filled with those little extras that most developers do not provide. It has an excellent pace with creatively designed HOP scenes and puzzles galore. Domini is known for the puzzles within their games; however, the HOP scenes in this game are some of the best I have played in some time. Although I did not care for the nonsensical story (vengeful trolls causing chaos in their quest for an eternal eclipse), the activities from this game make up for the lack of an engaging story. Domini is my favorite developer and this game is a perfect example of why they are the one to beat among HOP game developers.
There are eighteen (18) HOP scenes and all can be replayed at the end of the game. There are also four (4) mini-HOP scenes containing a small number of items to be located. There are the usual interactive scenes with lists of items and silhouettes; however, there are also storybook, matching, rebus, and replacement scenes. One of the HOP scenes in the main game is breathtaking, featuring tropical birds which must be matched. There is a new style of rebus scene in which two items must be located. These two items, when combined, create the rebus item listed. One of my favorites is the slider scene in which the player must move the silhouette of the item onto the item itself before removing it. I also found one very creative scene in the bonus chapter in which the player searches for family crests based on three items described in the list.

This is a puzzle-lovers delight! There are forty (40) minigames. Twenty-seven (27) can be replayed at the end of the game! Incredible! Most of the minigames have the option to be played in either an “easy” or “hard” mode. The ability to choose the difficulty creates an easy/breezy game for some and a little more challenge for others. There are two Rube-Goldberg puzzles in the demo – one is an escape puzzle in which the player must escape a maze by playing four (4) puzzles. The other involves three (3) different types of picture puzzles. There is quite a variety of puzzles throughout the game, some which are novel. In a gear puzzle, instead of having the gears mesh with each other, the player must switch the gears to create a picture instead.
MECHANICS:
• Four (4) levels of play including a customized version.
• Thirty-three (33) achievements.
• Collect fifteen (15) morphing paintings, fifteen (15) scrolls, and seventy (70) medallions
• Replay twenty-seven (27) minigames and eighteen (18) HOP scenes
• Bestiary book to tame monsters. Play a puzzle every time the book is used.
• Twenty (20) wallpapers along with concept art and music selections.
BONUS CHAPTER: It is a different story and a long chapter well-worth the price of a collector’s edition. Play Amber, the mother of Evelyn from the main game. When Evelyn’s boyfriend arrives to inform you that she has disappeared, you are off to find her. A misguided evildoer, Faceless, is behind her disappearance and now you must enter the Void to save her. There are six (6) HOP scenes and eight (8) minigames. Continue to collect all the collectibles within this chapter.
SPOILERS: HERE ARE SOME OF THE FORTY (40) MINIGAMES WITHIN THE GAME:
A. Moving tiles puzzle. Rotate crystals so they all fit precisely into a given hexagonal grid.
B. Gears/Switch puzzle. Unique puzzle in which you must switch and rotate gears to restore on image. Clever new hybrid puzzle
C. Assembly puzzle. Rotate pieces of a kite so they fit into their proper slots. Then place bi-colored feathers into position matching the color of the kite pieces next to them.
D. Logic puzzle. A merchant gives cryptic clues about items within a scene. Choose the correct item within the scene to fit the clue given
E. Beat the computer. Collect more sun tokens than your opponent’s moon tokens. Landing next to a moon token will change it to a sun token and vice versa.
BONUS CHAPTER:
F. Map puzzle. Place arrows on a map to lead a figure to an "X" on the left side of the grid while avoiding vortexes. You must also pass through every set of footsteps on the grid once.
G. Logic puzzle. Place 8 tokens in the proper sequence on a cryptex following clues given on a sheet of paper.
H. Switch puzzle. On a 5 x 5 grid, place masks of different colors and emotions so that no two masks share the same color or emotion in each row and column.
I. Maze puzzle. Lead a mask along paths to a slot at the bottom of the maze. Pass over slots which change the direction of the paths.

One good feature of this game is the amount of puzzles other than HOs. Whether you choose "easy" or "hard" they are not difficult, just requiring a bit of patience and the trial and error method.
Some even have a bit of logic to them.
Another nice feature is that you won't be overwhelmed with the usually stupid HOs full of junk. An effort has been made in this sense, although items that have no bearing on the story or the tasks have not been eliminated completely.
The rest is more or less what you find in all other games of this kind.
During the course of the demo which I completed in 1 hour on "hard", many of the items to be used to perform tasks were weird, their application illogical more often than not, with a few meant by the devs to be utilized in ways they were not primarily intended for.
But, at least in the demo, I didn't have to find 12 keys, fix a broken ladder, repair a bridge, etc... although there was a broken lighter and a broken metal toy bird (that you had to repair with...glue!) at some point.
The other features didn't impress me one bit.
- the story is lame (I skipped the cutscenes which, by the way, with today's computers' capabilities, could have been a lot better, not resembling what we were used to 20 years ago).
- the graphics are mainly purple, neon green and fairly messy
- the monsters are laughable, but the way to get rid of them via puzzles is not a bad idea.
And why do all devs persist in including skeletons and skulls nearly everywhere ? Duh !
In conclusion:
Not a bad game, but nothing extraordinary either.
And the rating ? Around 3.5 - 3.7 stars, and certainly not 5 stars which means "perfection". But as there is no in-between, I am awarding it 4 stars.
Do I recommend the game ? Yes, for those who relish in fantasy tales and love monsters.
Nothetheless I will not add it to my collection.
And as always.... do play the demo !

I like collectibles. Found 70 colorful medals to buy things for my observatory. Navigational things. The 15 scrolls and 15 morphing paintings have stuff to read on them. The morphing paintings are so small that I wasn't having a morphing feeling. They look like a wad of paper.
I would have been happier if they had a artful hop scene with a list but a acid recipe hop, slide rule hop and a circle moving finding the image hop are more like a fun puzzle. I did like the morphing hop in the bonus chapter. Most hops weren't a beautiful picture except the bird hop.
I always turn the music on low. I kept hearing a fizz sound like soda. I think it could be the eyes on the Bestiary. I turned down the environment to almost off and I could still hear it.
The main ending is heartfelt but I would have liked to have seen multiple transformations or at least one transformation. (Those who finished the game know what I'm talking about).
The bonus chapter is a prequel and it has our Evelyn before her steampunk outfits.
Replay 18 hops, 27 mini-games, 35 video and 5 music. Has 20 wallpapers and 20 concept art. Six Chapters + a long Bonus chapter.
Even with all my complaint, I still liked the game. Show less

Hello friends! As usual, I review mostly on the game play and leave the story line to others. Graphics aren't too bad, but we do still have some blurring now and then. Game play is very good, with no problems during the demo. Animation is fairly smooth. Colors are bright, but not over powering. The voice of our heroine leaves a lot to be desired. She just sounds so bored and emotionless. Voices of the other characters are much better and more realistic. Music is okay and quietly playing in the background. Sound FX were few and far between. This was a fairly quiet game, which made it seem very slow. We did not have a helpful friends, but instead, we had a Bestiary book that we used to tame animals and turn them from beasts to playful little animals. We did have to complete puzzles with each beat. Fortunately, we did not have to use this book very often.
HOGs were varied, with interactive HOGs, riddles, highlighted words and find the differences in pictures. Scenes were fairly clear and items were not difficult to see. I didn't even notice if there was a different game we could switch to. Puzzles were somewhat challenging. I like the ability to choose easy or hard. I always demo a game on easy mode, and some of these puzzles were quite challenging even then. Hint system is helpful and we do have the transport feature, by way of the map opening and showing us where we need to go next. We do a lot of back tracking, so this is a good feature to have. Again, we have the perfect map. Areas are identified by picture and name, and it shows us if we miss a collectible.
Collectibles are well done. We have 15 morphing paintings that look a lot like a piece of paper just laying around. These are quite easy to overlook. We also have 15 scrolls that can be hidden in something or just sitting around waiting to get picked up. Not as easy to find as you may think. We also have to find 70 medals. They are all the same color and shape, but some are small and difficult to see. They can be anywhere in a scene and are quite easy to miss.
This addition wasn't as good as the last one, but it wasn't bad at all. The story moved very slowly and there wasn't a lot of character interaction or action, which drastically helps keep you interested and wanting more. What we had was not bad, just slow. The only challenge is finding the collectibles, which I do like...the more the better. That said, I liked this one well enough to add it to my ever growing CE games. I did give this one a 4.5, not because of the story, but because of the graphics, excellent game play and numerous collectibles. I think most all levels of players will find this one interesting. Yes, I am adding it to my collection of CE games.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. Thanks for the reviews. Play on! Show less

Completed Game approximately 6.0 hours
(including the CE Bonus Chapter and all mini-games)
It's hard to stop a Troll, especially an Angry Troll. Jorlis has lost his only daughter, even worse, he watched his daughter turn to stone before his very eyes. The trolls have been cursed, forced to live their lives by the light of the moon, the sun is their nemesis, but so are the Hunters who dedicate their lives to eradicating these "Monsters" But what if the sun never rose? What if the night never ended? What would it take to allow Trolls the freedom of life without the fear of stone? What if this freedom could be achieved with an eternal Solar Eclipse? What if all it took was the soul of a Troll Hunter? What if you're the Monster Hunter!
The biggest problem I have with this game is that once again Domini stretched the game way too much. Chapters 1-4 were a perfect length, chapter 5 a little bit long but not too bad. Chapter 6 totally lost my attention span because it just dragged on and on. It didn't progress the story, it was just one mini-game after another with a bunch of meaningless tasks requiring me to find and use the same inventory items that I ditched at least 4 or 5 times in the previous chapters. After completing the main game I walked away for hours before forcing myself to play a bonus chapter the size of all 6 main chapters combined. I don't want to repeat the same tasks a thousand times just for the sake of stretching the appearance of a game..just saying...
What kind of Gadget did Domini give us this time, you may ask? Why a Bestiary Book to turn vicious monsters into harmless pets, of course! The Bestiary Book is used 7 times, once you complete a random mini-game that has nothing to do with that particular creature. The good news is that the mini-game is different each time, and they actually aren't bad games for the most part. The CE Morphing Paintings are somewhat obscure but still rather obvious, but I thought the Scrolls were creatively blended into the scenery.
There are 13 Main & 4 smaller Zoom Zone Hidden Object Scenes +5 in the CE Bonus Chapter, and there is an alternate Match 3 game available. Surprisingly, the HOP's get better towards the end, mainly because they were creative variations such as Horizontal & Vertical Sliders to match with pictures in the scene, Spot the Differences, Rotating Disk Sections to align objects, where the first half of the game only offered Interactive Listed items, Silhouetted Shapes and Keywords in Sentence finds. Two of my favorites was finding Matching Pairs of beautiful and very colorful birds, and a Riddle puzzle where you had to select two associated items. (_+_=Ballerina)
There are 30 Mini-Games +12 in the CE Bonus Chapter, including 7 Bestiary Book puzzles (each one different). I really liked most of the puzzles but the last 2 chapters worth about did me in, it was just puzzle after puzzle with no progression to the story and very few HO's to break up the chain of mini-games. If you're not a puzzle fan, you probably won't enjoy this game. Below are brief descriptions of some of my favorites. ㋛
1~Align chips so the ones on the center disk are adjacent to the matching ones on the outer disk, by rotating groups of chips. დ
2~Use directional arrows to move 2 tokens through a labyrinth alternating movements to open up various gates for each other. დდდ
3~Move crystal shards into place by clicking on various attachments.
4~Place tiles into empty slots according to clues on rows & columns. დ
5~Rotate kite sections into place and then place duel-colored feathers in between kite sections according to the color combinations. დდდ
6~Place color-coded feathers on empty slots by finding the color pattern.
7~Use directional arrows to move the amulets to the central slot. დ
The Collector's Edition Bonus Chapter is so long you'd think it was an actual full-length release. You play as momma Amber who freaks out when daughter Evelyn goes MIA and does what any mother would do, hunt down the bad guy and make him regret the day he was born. Okay, maybe it's not quite that dramatic, but it does involve GOT (anyone else want a final season redo?) scenario of "The Faceless" only nowhere near as awesome. (anyone else wanna know why didn't she become a man w/o a face in the end?) There are 12 Mini-Games and 5 Hidden Object Scenes in the BC and you will find the remaining 3 Morphing Paintings (say that 3'xs fast) 3 Scrolls, and 6 Medals (of various amounts) to purchase the remaining Observatory items. If you don't get bored playing the main game, the length of this BC chapter is worthy of the CE price. (16 pages according to the SG)
This Collector's Edition has 20 Wallpapers, 20 Concept Art pictures, 5 Music Soundtracks, 35 Movie Video Cutscenes (sit back and watch the show folks) 33 Achievements, 27 Replayable Mini-Games, 18 Replayable Hidden Object Scenes, 15 Morphing Paintings (learn about the Troll Culture) 15 Collectible Scrolls (well hidden, bio's on past/present member's of the Order of Monster Hunters) 10 Missing Notes (technically they are found notes once you click on them) 70 Zoom Zone Medals to buy 13 Observatory Items, 6 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter and a Built-in Strategy Guide.
