The Blackthorn Brothers aren't the sharpest tools in the Haunted Hotel Shed. After receiving their Family Reunion Invitation, they head to the Sweet 18 Hotel long before any other family member arrives. They don't seem to notice the dreadful condition of this establishment, nor do they put two and two together to draw a haunted hotel conclusion until it's too late. The concierge hands them a key to a very special room, Room 18. The boys soon find out that Room 18 has roots that intertwine deeply into their family's past, discovering how and why is the easy part, escaping Room 18 is a whole different ballgame!

What a perfect game for Halloween! The graphics are creepy, the sounds are haunting, and they remind me of the perfection this developer insisted on back in the day. I LOVED the Keyhole Hint graphics, well done! Okay, so the Morphing Objects are the Elephant in the room, literally, they are the size of a baby Elephant, but I am so happy to see that these guys are slowly returning to their roots. They are abandoning the "Emblem" for every single door, window, box, cabinet, and drawer scenario, they have returned to their original graphics style that was superior to all other developers back in the day. They lost sight of what made them special, honestly, they got lazy because we allowed them to be lazy by not noticing or complaining once we did notice. Room 18 isn't perfect but they are obviously trying to improve, and I will show my appreciation by giving them 5-Stars for the first time in a long time!

Hidden Object Scenes: There are 10 main Hidden Object Scenes and 4 smaller Zoom Zone HOP's +6 in the CE Bonus Chapter. They are mostly Interactive Listed Item Finds and Silhouetted Shape Finds but there are also Symbol Finds, Multiples of the same Object Finds Keyword Interactions Finds, Uncovering Pairs, and Finding 2 Related Combo Items that match the Listed Words (_+_= Mermaid) There are no alternate puzzles offered.

Mini-Games: There are 21 Mini-Games +6 in the CE Bonus Chapter. Although they are decent puzzles, they do tend to be fairly easy to solve, and there are several "clicking one may affect others" which are my personal nemesis. Below are a few of my personal favorites during the game:

1-Drag the frame over a tile & press directional arrows to align paths to allow energy to flow.
2-Move blocks horizontally or vertically to clear a path for the key.
3-Rotate groups of bottles until the colored corks match the pattern shown.
4-Press the 'jump" button on an arcade to avoid moving rows of skeletons, pumpkins, and ghosts, then jump on logs to the exit.
5-Drag clock weights that move the clock hands in different increments to set each time shown.
6-Remove all blocks by dragging and droppping them to matching colored blocks.

Bonus Chapter: Uncle Samuel insists on returning to Sweet 18 to rescue Caroline who he claims has been begging for his help in recurring nightly dreams, so it's back to the Haunted Hotel for some more ghostbusting work. This is an average-length chapter that takes place over 7 Scene Locations with 6 Hidden Object Scenes and 6 Mini-Games. You will continue to search for 7 Morphing Objects, 4 Morphing Character Statues, and 5 Puzzle Fragments to complete the final Bonus Scene Image as well.

I am letting you know there is a glitch in the bonus level of the game. You need to get 2 pieces of a dress to put on a wardrobe door, one piece does not come up,one is where you burn some rubbish and the 2nd piece is on a desk that is supposed to come up when you dust.No other faults were found

But Haunted Hotel is one of the few that, IMHO, has been consistent in putting out fresh ideas for plots and gameplay. In many instances, game series start to sour over time. Same cookie-cutter mini-games, HOS, and storylines. But Haunted Hotel is one of the few that, IMHO, has been consistent in putting out fresh ideas for plots and gameplay. Most mystery or "supernatural" games are a little on the dark side, of course, but this series has, for the most part, not gone too overboard with the evil.
It was interesting to play from our hero's (James), brother's viewpoint. I found that to be a fresh take on the norm. Also being introduced to new members of a very interesting family made you feel invested in the characters.
The storyline was interesting, gameplay flowed at a comfortable pace, and the mini-games challenging enough to keep you on your toes without overloading your brain's hardwiring. Most mini-games did have the Easy/Hard option. The HOS could have used a bit more variety than the usual "grocery list".
Overall, I was impressed with the game and the fact that after 17 games, the 18th was still fresh and interesting. One of the reasons Elephant Games is one of my favorite devs. Show less

Detective James Blackthorn is my favourite game character ever, Haunted Hotel is my favourite game series and I love Room 18! James is perfect as usual and Room 18 is fabulous! I have brain tumours and Room 18 is perfect escapism - I’m forever grateful to Elephant Games xx

Haunted Hotel Room 18 is probably one of my favorite Halloween games of the season. Actually, it is probably one of my favorite games in the Haunted Hotel series. There is so much to like in this game, starting with an excellent storyline. The graphics are excellent, showcasing the versatility of this developer. I remember when the first Haunted Hotel games were released and this game definitely reminds me of what originally made this one of my favorite series.

Okay, so at least for me the gameplay seemed rather easy at times and perhaps a bit predictable but nevertheless, I found Room 18 to be such a wonderful game for Halloween and so enjoyable. Another surprise is that I absolutely enjoyed every puzzle in the game. There was a new puzzle, or at least one that I don’t recall seeing in the past, and I loved fiddling around to move those keys into the correct position. There was also another puzzle that I’ve not seen in ages that is a different spin on the unblock me type. For someone who doesn’t particularly enjoy too many puzzles in HOPA games, I found those in Room 18 to very entertaining.

The HOS were fun and I didn’t have any issues finding the items whether they were on lists by silhouettes. The HOS included various styles but were predominately the list type that I love. The only style of HOS I truly dislike is the one where we need to find matching pairs of items hidden behind other objects in the scene. There were several of the storybook type scenes and I did find some of the required items difficult to locate. Overall, the HOS were very good and as much fun as the puzzles.

The spooky atmosphere added to the creepiness of the game and at times I felt like I was going to jump out of my chair. I love a game that has this sort of feel to it and that the unexpected did happen. Although some of the gameplay was predictable and found items were used right away, at other times some items remained in my inventory until later. There did seem to be a bit of back and forth and the map did help when I wasn’t sure where to get back to the place where I knew that an item should be used. In the end, I think this is a wonderful game that is suitable for teens as well as adults.

Since I had played the beta for the game, it was one that I knew I would purchase right away and I did. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a second game that I wanted for the BOGO so I ended up paying full price for the game. Even though I knew I wanted Haunted Hotel Room 18, as always, please try the demo to see if it is one you will enjoy as well. Happy gaming! Show less

This was an unexpectedly good game. I found myself being drawn in each time I opened it. Often, the luster wears off, but this kept me coming back with challenging games and a nice environment. Story line was noticeable throughout, could have been a little stronger in that area. Overall good quality game.

Can't finish the bonus game ...i'm stuck ...have tried to get help used the hints ...just doesn't let me move forward...gutted as i have enjoyed this game very much...
