As many of you know, our beloved Kris Djokic from Dragonseye Studio passed away shortly after the release of Tearstone: Thieves of the Heart :( Thankfully, he was here to witness the success of Tearstone 2 but unfortunately, Moontrain was still in development. As a tribute, the Dragonseye team worked feverishly to complete the game to honor their beloved mentor...and they have exceeded everyone's expectations!

Moontrain is a point & click adventure ride you don't want to miss! It's a thinking kind of game with adorable characters and whimsically animated cartoon graphics. The storyline will amuse and delight players of all ages as you search for clues and follow leads to find Sam and reunite him with his cousin Max.

I was surprised that Big Fish listed Moontrain as a Hidden Object Game versus a Point & Click Adventure. Although it has aspects of hidden object scenes, they aren't typical HO's. Sometimes you will search for needed items by rummaging and moving things out of the way but those objects aren't listed at the bottom as they are in typical HO scenes, and you may have to return to those areas on other occasions to find another item. There are also Black & White scenes that require you to find & replace 3 objects in 3 different scenes to fill in parts of the story or fill in the backstory, but again, they don't tell you what to do or what to look for, you have to figure out the requirements as you do in most adventures.

In most HOPA games, the developer throws in random mini-games and puzzles that have nothing to do with the story, they are just fillers. The mini-games in Moontrain ARE part of the adventure's progression, in other words, you need to solve puzzles to progress, and although they can be skipped you probably won't want to! You may need to play an arcade game to get a part needed to fix broken items or find codes to solve the puzzles. The mini-games and puzzles are easy to solve, but they don't come with a set of instructions, they rely on you to tinker with them to find the solution...and you'll feel a sense of pride when you do figure out how to fix or solve something!

As in most adventure games, you will come across areas that require items, and usually in multiples of the same item, such as 10 Nails. Once you click on an area of interest, an Icon will appear on the top right, showing a picture and the quantity of the items required. Once you find the required parts, you drag that icon of inventory to the correct location to use them. Icons that have a magnifying glass require further inspection, and items with a + sign require combining two or more inventory items... if you get stuck there's always a good old-fashioned Hint button!

Bonus Chapter:
The Moontrain is flooding and it's up to you to fix the leak and help various characters during your newfound adventure!

This CE Version has 44 Collectible Gems (some may be hidden) that allow you to purchase Detective Items, 5 Screensavers (after answering questions about the game) 20 Music Soundtracks, Concept Art Pictures, a Notebook with Character Bios, and a built-in Strategy Guide.

Wonderful detective game, nice atmosphere. You can feel that the game developers had fun while making this game. No handholding, but there is an in-game guide when you can't figure out what to do. I absolutely love this type of game!

Dragonseye has given us a GREAT game. Oh, how I've been waiting for something different (and not a Do game). This is it. I'm having so much fun playing. Lots of thinking involved.
A must try.

I am not normally a Hopa fan as the vast majority of
them nowadays are very predictable but this game is
amazing and my demo ran out and I just had to buy it
straight away and carry on.
I just managed to get to the train so a long way to go.

Every Hopa game I have liked are the ones where they make you think.
There is a hint if you need it which I must admit to using a few times but the challenge is there and it is so well thought out.

I will not spoil it by saying too much but I am pretty sure this is going to be a hit.

The previous game by this developer was an instant hit and yes there will be some that will not like it but am pretty sure the vast majority will.

If all Hopa games were like this then sign me up for a top Hopa fan but unfortunately they are not.

Try the demo and see what you think. That is the great thing about demos as we all like different things so you can make your own mind up. There is a strategy guide if you get stuck and as I said earlier this developer listens and this is why he is producing such awesome games.

Wow, I purchased this game after 20 minutes of the demo. It is truly what we gamers have been asking for.

The graphics are good and the level of challenge is doable but the hint button is excellent should you decide to use it instead of the ole noggin. The strategy guide is the best I have seen in quite sometime. Very easy to read and understand incase you get stuck in the game.

There are so many things to find and do and fix (but not in the way most HO games today are.)
Not repetitive and certainly not boring.

This is not a hard game to play once you understand the mechanics of it which is very well explained in the beginning of the game.

You are a detective (wait 'til you see the office!) engaged by a former Mouse Circus owner looking for his missing cousin. Judging by the client amenities, you are used to tiny clients.

Your client gives you a fat case file - you're not the first he's engaged over the years to find his cousin.

"Hmmm... this sounds familiar", you muse. And so it is.

And with that, and the aid of your trusted assistant, you are off on a fantastic adventure that leads you to the most surprising discoveries!

GAMEPLAY
The game style is called "Point and Click" which means you point on areas and items to interact with them.

There are items that shake when we click on them, and this tells us "Hey! Remember where I am 'cause you're gonna need me later."

When we need an item, its image pops into the upper right hand corner of of the screen. Be prepared to do a lot of clicking as you try to figure out where stuff is, what needs to be done, how to find what, and so on.

BUT, there is a handy-dandy question mark for when the going gets tough, and the help is excellent - no guessing. Thing is, look around for fat little blue pyramids to feed the question mark so you don't run out of help.

GRAPHICS
The cartoon graphics are among my favorite style. If you are familiar with the games in the Puzzle section, you will recognize the style immediately. It's fun, quirky, and provides the occasional chuckle. It keeps you smiling even when you start chewing the cartoon grass in frustration 'cause you don't want to use the question mark.

Apart from the above, there's not much I can tell you without spoiling the game - we have to figure things out as we go so it is easy to give away the game while writing a review.

The demo flew by, I was thoroughly engrossed and wanted more. It is the cutest game I've seen in a very long time. The cartoon style artwork is tops, rich colors. I was so ready to take on this cold case and solve the mystery of Sam's disappearance. Maybe being the 33rd detective will be the lucky number! I know I've got my work cut out for me and I'm up for the challenge. Already I can tell it requires patience and checking out every bit of each scene. It's impossible to speed through this game and I wouldn't want to anyway. Believe me, a lot of clicking and back and forth is required. The items are usually used with other items and you'll find that a found object cannot be collected if it's not pictured at the top of the screen. It's a different kind of inventory set-up and I liked the extra challenge it created.

Most of the demo scenes were dark partly because of the deep colors. They each had objects that move when clicked, lots of players like that feature. I thought there was lots to enjoy visually so it slowed me down somewhat. There's a little fish jumping up in a glass of water that was cute. And in one scene I had to play a CD and was so surprised and delighted at the tune it played. I think this game will be filled with many little extras that are unexpected and worth the price of admission.

I didn't see many HOPs but liked them. The story scenes each had 3 objects to find and replace in the scene. They were dark, making them difficult to spot and they were small. The few puzzles were simple, familiar. But I enjoyed all the games. I'm counting on a good variety along the way. The character who gave me the case was a mouse and I'm curious about the characters I haven't met yet. I hope they are all animals with interesting features and personalities. The voices in the demo were very good.

The game seems complicated at first and I just suggest taking your time, ward off your frustration because it does take some time to catch on. Clicking yourself cuckoo might be a deterrent but if you hang in there you will be rewarded. The Hint works great and there's a good Strategy Guide. It's a cute story and it isn't a whopper of a CE but I think worth the $$. Extras include Strategy Guide, 44 collectible gems, picture notebook of the characters, 20 soundtracks and a few quizzes about the game that will earn you 5 screenshots.

I'm thinking the game won't be extremely popular because it isn't the usual easy style HOPA and many gamers dislike all the clicking, and are more comfortable with the handholding format. But I decided to be adventurous and take a ride on the Moontrain. Who knows? I might find Sam AND lots of fun to dispel any disappointment I was expecting. Show less
