I really like this series and game Number 3 is proving to be a winner, based on my time in the demo. It is a good story in my opinion, I'm always interested in unsolved crimes.
We play both Mary and Aaron. I love switching characters. I love what happens when you click on each one as an older couple before you begin to Play. So, the game begins with their arrival in town and almost immediately they are involved with trying to solve 2 murders. Busy, busy, busy!
Kevin was accused of a murder in 1969. He was arrested and finally released but many townfolk still believe he is guilty. Now, another young actress has been murdered and suddenly Kevin is arrested again in the presence of the Fletchers. Sheriff Stutter is enraged, he hates Kevin. You see, Elizabeth, the 1969 victim, was Stutter's sweetheart. His anger is renewed and revenge, I think, plays a big part.
Now we have to get down to business and find the real killer, proving Kevin's innocence and clearing his name once and for all. Who is trying to frame Kevin? And why? I just love murder mysteries, gathering clues. Love that ah-ha moment.
Enjoyed the demo a lot. Spent lots of time questioning folks, collecting pieces of evidence, tending to the necessary tasks. Everything moved along at a good pace and the tasks were not frustrating. The inventory items moved out quickly which prevented my trying to remember much later where to use them. There were collectible clapboards, morphs in each scene, achievements, souvenir room, etc. A map was available but not of much use to me, I decided to just get around without it which easy enough. I liked the Pan Left and Right Feature. The entire demo ran smoothly, no black screen between scenes or other long pauses.
The graphics and color were excellent. The characters were interesting and looked good. I am really disliking the red-headed actress who thinks she is so hotsy-totsy! With the exception of Mary, Aaron, and the red-head the voice overs were lousy. Especially, Kevin's! And I felt he looked too young, considering his age in 1969. Not many puzzles or HOPs in the demo. I encountered one very interactive HOP and the puzzles were okay. There may have been more, but I was taking my time and may have missed some.
Will purchase this game with today's holiday sale. Anxious to add to my crime-mystery collection. I think this will turn out to be a fantastic whodunit and I'm hoping to see more from this entertaining series. No disappoints so far!

I love classic whodunnit HOPAs, and this series is a favorite of mine. Solving a murder means finding clues and eliminating suspects, which Eipix does really well with this game. The inventory does not get too cumbersome, hidden object games are integrated into the storyline as are the puzzles, none of which are too difficult or too tedious.

I don't find this game or the series cookie cutter but then the genre is a favorite of mine. It seems to me that in HOPA games there are always going to be some repetition of the type of task because they are HOPA games. That is not overdone in this game, IMO. Of course, the graphics are brilliant, and I really enjoyed the soundtrack. As I'm solving a mystery, I welcome cutscenes so I read carefully.
As always, try the demo. No one game is for everyone but for everyone there is a game. Enjoy! Show less

The things I did not like about the previous game (an almost impossible target to shoot, for example) have been corrected. I like switching characters, and I think the graphics, music, and game play are all just fine. The only problem was Kevin - who should have been at least 36 at this time, but looked and spoke like he was about 17.
The bonus game was fun, but I won't spoil the ending. I'm happy with this - will play it again - and recommend it. Show less

Memoirs of Murder Behind the Scenes is the third game in a series that didn’t grab me enough to write reviews for the first two games. Since I generally play at least the demo of every HOPA game, I decided to go ahead and try this one. Well, after my initial eye-roll over the sheriff’s voice, I was pleasantly surprised and soon found myself involved in the gameplay.
As I became involved in the game, it became clear to me that the developer has created some of the best HOPS that can be found. I loved having to find some of the items and then use them to open other items to finish the scenes. The HOPS were creative and some included mini puzzles to solve. Recently HOPS have become a bit boring with having to find miniscule items that are difficult to find. Not so with Behind the Scenes because although the items to be found are cleverly hidden they are still visible which is what makes this game so much fun.
Not only are the HOPS wonderful, the Puzzles are as well. The puzzles were not so difficult to solve that they became headache inducing, which made them much more enjoyable. I found that when I needed instructions on what to do, they were easy to understand.
As in the first two games in the series, we switch between the characters when playing, which is a feature found in a few other HOPA games. As the story develops, we switch between the two main characters and each has their separate tasks to accomplish. The story for me was so interesting that I was immersed in the gameplay and after playing hundreds of HOPA games that isn’t always the case.
The graphics are excellent and, aside from the voiceover for the sheriff, the others were all very good. The only thing that I found a bit puzzling is if the original murder took place twenty years previous to the investigation, why did Kevin still look and sound like he was in high school. At the point where the game begins, Kevin should be approaching middle age and he should have looked not quite so young.
All in all, this is a great game and one that I highly recommend. Even though the game was one that I purchased before the demo ended, you should try the game for yourself to see if it is one that you will enjoy. Happy gaming! Show less

5 Chapters Plus a Bonus Chapter – Strategy Guide: 42 pages
OPINION: Get two murders for the price of one in an outstanding whodunit! Join retired sleuths, Aaron and Mary Fletcher, as they relive a double homicide case from 1989. The script behind the game is well-written. Play both Aaron and Mary Fletcher as they tag team to solve these crimes. The graphics are colorful and provide a humorous view of small-town life in rural Oklahoma. Use a notebook to collect and analyze evidence throughout the game. This game should appeal to all those who love classic detective stories. With a well-written script along with plenty of activities to provide an excellent pace, this game is a must have for sleuth lovers!
There is only one collectible, clapboards. I found most easy to locate; however, there are some which are well-hidden within the scenes. There are morphing objects within most of the HOP scenes. At the end of the game, return to the scenes and search for souvenirs. Locating the souvenirs will not be an easy task, however. Most are well-hidden within the scenes and require some interaction with other items to retrieve them.
MECHANICS:
• Four (4) levels of play including a customized version.
• Twenty (20) achievements.
• Collect thirty-eight (38) clapboards
• Collect fourteen (14) morphing objects within the HOP scenes
• At the end of the game return to the scenes to collect twelve (12) souvenirs
• Eight (8) Wallpapers along with concept art, music and video sequences
• Notebook in which to collect evidence, analyze it, and make conclusions
• Replay fourteen (14) HOP scenes and eighteen (18) puzzles
• Enjoy playing an arcade game and a game of mahjong after the game is completed.
TWO EXTRA GAMES: Double your fun with two additional games playable at the end of the game. One of these is a retro-style arcade game. Shoot alien space craft while avoiding meteors in the path. This game can only be played after locating all the souvenirs. There is a mahjong game as well. Neither of these games are featured within the game itself. They are extra entertainment.
HOP SCENES: There are nineteen (19) HOP scenes in the game. In this number are what I consider mini-HOP scenes – those which have a small number of items to be searched for within the scene. Most of the scenes are straight lists of items. As previously stated, there are morphing objects in most of the scenes; however, there are some scenes which do not. There are some scenes with rebus clues and cryptic clues. There are some storybook scenes with highlighted items to be located and a couple of silhouette scenes. Some of the lists feature items with letters missing. The letters of the alphabet are placed back into the word once the item is located.
PUZZLES: There are twenty-three (23) puzzles within the game. They vary in style and difficulty. They are creatively designed. I found the instructions well-written for the puzzles, a feature which has been missing in many past games from this developer. My favorite puzzle is the cornfield maze! Get into the spirit of autumn trekking through that maze. Also adding to fall fever is the basketball hoops puzzle. That puzzle was a slam dunk for me being a basketball fan!
BONUS CHAPTER: It is a sequel. You, Aaron, along with Mary, have been invited to a party to celebrate the conclusion of this case. Mary has gone early to help with the preparations for the party. However, upon arrival at Pineville, you discover a note from an anonymous person indicating that your family has been kidnapped. Now play cat-and-mouse with this abductor as he/she leaves cryptic clues as to their location. A surprise ending awaits you in this chapter! Although there are only two (2) HOP scenes and four (4) puzzles, the chapter is long and well-worth the price of the collector’s edition.
SPOILERS: HERE ARE SOME OF THE PUZZLES AFTER THE DEMO:
A. Picture puzzle. Move triangular pieces onto a triangular grid to create an image.
B. Connection puzzle. Slide connectors left and right to connect fuses creating a solid flow of electricity within a panel.
C. Domino puzzle. Place dominoes on a grid so the ends of adjoining dominos are identical.
D. Cornfield Maze puzzle. Yeehaw! Plot a route through a corn maze by placing 14 arrows into a grid to create a route to lead you to the exit
E. Physics puzzle. Let’s play hoops! Set up pegs under 4 basketballs in a trajectory so that each ball ends up into one of 4 hoops at the bottom. Balls cannot share hoops.
BONUS CHAPTER:
F. Bullseye puzzle. Unique puzzle in which you must pass a signal from one satellite to another while the satellites are facing each other. Pass between a series of them until the signal finally reaches the end at the bottom right of the screen.
G. Sequence puzzle. Bar removal puzzle. Remove bars in sequence until all are removed.
H. Tangram puzzle. Create 3 animals using tangram pieces
