Puppet Show Final Mistake is absolutely the best game in the Puppet Show series in years. I lost all interest in the Puppet Show games several years ago so it was quite a surprise when I found that I loved everything about Final Mistake.
The game has everything that make HOPA games fun to play. Although there are far more mini-games than HOS, I found myself enjoying the gameplay. Normally, I dislike finding almost twice as many mini-games as HOS in HOPA games, but it didn’t seem to bother me quite as much because I found that I enjoyed solving all of the mini-games with the exception of the few that I skipped as they were not my favorite type to solve. Because Final Mistake is such a wonderful game, I know that when I play it a second time, I will slow down and solve the handful of mini-games that I skipped the first time around.
The graphics in the game are beautiful and full of color. The artistic talent of the development team shines in every scene in the game. The original team created some of the most beautiful HOPA games that made me a huge fan of the genre. Although there is a warning in the beginning of the game about some violence, there was nothing I could see that would justify the need for that warning. The game has a good storyline that tied the package together and make Final Mistake a Puppet Show game that in my estimation is not a mistake at all. Since about the time that the seventh game in the Puppet Show series came along it was apparent that the series had dwindled to nothing more than cookie cutter games. With Final Mistake it is easy to see the difference, which has kept me immersed in the game much of the morning. I have been playing for almost five hours and have not yet reached the end of the original game. In recent years with so many HOPA games falling into the cookie cutter category, it’s not unusual for me to skip the Bonus Chapter but because Final Mistake is so terrific, I will definitely keep playing until I complete the Bonus Chapter.
The HOS are creative, interactive and a lot of fun. There is some variety in the HOS although many of the scenes are revisited more than once. If a scene is played a second time, there will a change in the style or type of scene. The mini-games were fun with various levels of challenge. I am not overly fond of mini-games but I did like the ones included in Final Mistake. I only skipped a couple of the mini-games that took more time to solve but I will solve them when I play the game a second time through.
Although the game is a Collector’s Edition, I didn’t really notice too much in the way of collectibles. There are no morphing objects which are what I enjoy most in CE games. Aside from the collectibles there is not much that I consider CE worthy except for the Strategy Guide and the handful of mechanical animals to be collected.
Puppet Show Final Mistake is such an excellent game that I highly recommend it to other HOPA gamers. In many ways the game seems “retro” in that it has a great storyline and a wonderful gameplay factor that has had me happily searching for items, playing mini-games, and learning more about Dr. Kingston, his assistant Natalie, and the cyborgs all morning. Even though I love Puppet Show Final Mistake, please try the demo to see if it is a game you will enjoy as well. Happy gaming! Show less

When you received an urgent message from your university professor, you knew that something bad had happened! Travel back to your university and join forces with the professor’s assistant, Natasha to rescue the professor from his mechanical kidnappers. As his star student, can you live up to your potential in PuppetShow: Fatal Mistake?
The PuppetShow series has its peaks and valleys and this latest sequel falls somewhere in between. On one hand, the storyline about a kidnapped professor is far from original and the mechanical puppets aspect starts to get a little tiring. On the other hand, exciting, action-packed sequences that happen every so often are effective in maintaining the thrills and the player’s interest throughout the entire game.
The gameplay is fashionably predictable unless you've never played ANY of the games in this series. Plus the gameplay elements in PuppetShow: Fatal Mistake are NOT recycled. There are few clear attempts at delivering creative twists on familiar concepts, whether that be through hidden object scenes or mini-games. Although the game remains fairly easy to complete for most of its run, these minor imaginative flourishes make the game noticeably more enticing and entertaining.
AMAX Interactive sticks to their signature visual style in PuppetShow: Fatal Mistake, which is by no means a bad thing; it's what we all have grown to love about the series. The visuals are artistically designed, expertly drawn, and richly painted. Special effects and cutscenes are smooth and engaging, and so is the background music and voice-overs. Unlike many hidden object adventure games nowadays, I like how PuppetShow: Fatal Mistake does not just focus on one color hue, but plays with the full color spectrum. This allows each scene to be significantly different from one another, while glued together by a cohesive aesthetic.
Which should you purchase, the SE or the CE?
Well, I chose the Collector's Edition. I completed PuppetShow: Fatal Mistake in about 4 hours and the bonus chapter in roughly an hour or so. The Collector’s Edition feels more like a “nice to have” than a “must have”, it includes a strategy guide, wallpapers, concept art, soundtracks, videos, screensavers, replayable hidden object scenes, replayable puzzles, achievements, and collectibles.
This edition is definitley worth purchasing especially if you have a free coupon. Cheers!

This new release was refreshing and the new robotic character added an interesting twist to the story. It has a more updated, kind of sci-fi feel to it, and in my opinion, brought the series back to life. The graphics are excellent and show off rich. colorful scenes. The wonderful artistic talents are evident throughout the game, which really keeps the interest from waning and enhances the overall gameplay.
I really enjoyed all the HOPs. Not being a big fan of mini-games, I didn't find the ones here so intolerable. I did skip a few just because my impatience won't let me hang in there sometimes. I don't think any of the fun is compromised by purchasing the SE, as the CE was pretty stingy with the extras. Fatal Mistake was fun to play and I did not see anything super scary and even though the game does come with a warning of violence, I didn't find it was necessary. It's a good storyline with the addition of cyborgs to perk it up a little. I think fun can be had by all skill levels. Give the demo a try, especially if you became bored with the Puppet Show series. IMO, the cyborg was a good move and may lead to more interesting stories involving mechanical characters. Show less

I haven't enjoyed PuppetShow games in a very long time, they were fantastic in the beginning but then, as most series do, it just became another puppet on a string kind of game. Amax has been pulling back the reins lately, I think they realized that spewing out quantity over quality was destroying their reputation so kudos for having the insight and even more so for having the courage to face those challenges and implement the changes, that to me, are obvious. I didn't think the CE offerings were very CE worthy, it has a good storyline, non-repetitive tasks (although quite a bit of back-and-forth, to-and-fro, for my tastes) and decent mini-games, not to mention the fact that few can match the quality of Amax graphics!
FYI: They have some unusual Achievements in the CE Version, the only pro side of the CE bling, so if you do opt for the CE version, don't forget to read them over before starting the game or you will definitely miss earning a few of them!
☽☾Collectibles☼ CE Version Only
There are NO morphing Objects, There are NO real Collectibles because what this game has to offer isn't something that is hidden in each scene or every other scene, if fact, they aren't even hidden and there are only 10 "Keys" located within Zoom Zones (again they are NOT hidden they are "ta-dah" moments) The Keys unlock the birdcages that hold 10 Mechanical Animals, some of which aren't even animals?!? Each mechanical "object" gives a detailed description of why it was created and its purpose. Had the game itself not been as well-crafted, I would have asked for a refund at this point!
◔Hidden Object Scenes◕
There are 12 Hidden Object Scenes +4 in the CE Bonus Chapter, + 5 Zoom-Zone HO's. If I'm being honest, the HO's were rather boring and by the time Chapter Four rolled around I was dreading them and wished I could just skip them! They are located in boring locations most were just Interactive List finds, and there's only so many times you want to sift through a pile of broken puppet parts ti find a random mechanical part, right? There were also Silhouetted Shape Finds, Multiples of the Same Object Find, Fragmented Item Finds, Find & Replace, and Swatches Finds where you find an object with the color that matches the color on the token swatch example. There are no alternate Puzzles available.
♙Mini-Games♙
There are 24 Mini-Games +5 in the CE Bonus Chapter, and naturally, they are mostly mechanical type puzzles ranging from easy-intermediate. Here are some of my personal favorites:
1-Place the holograms onto the map using rotational, + & - buttons to resize and place correctly, and then find 4 birds after placing each map hologram.
2-Push tokens into center slots according to the numbered slots on the columns & rows.
3-Move token along tracks and rotate groups into correct places.
4-Navigate through the catacombs and use items to overcome obstacles while avoiding cyborgs.
5-Move chains of colored tokens along tracks to their matching colored slots.
✯Bonus Chapter (Collector's Edition version only)✯
Three days prior to the main investigation, Professor Richard Kingston contacts Detective Howard after his laboratory's sophisticated security system is breached and several Mechanical Animals are stolen. Amax didn't skimp on the content of the bonus chapter, but it's basically more of the same as you retrace your steps, revisiting the same familiar 12-13 scenes from the main chapter. It would have been more appealing if at least a few of the scene locations were new! There are just 5 mini-games and 4 hidden object scenes (including smaller zoom-zones) and more back and forth running around because apparently you didn't get it out of your system in the main chapters!
♕Collector's Edition Extra's♕
7 Wallpapers, 7 Concept Art Pictures, 8 Screensavers, 4 Music Soundtracks, 15 Achievements, 12 Replayable Mini-Games, 15 Replayable Hidden Object Scenes,10 Zoom Zone Bird Cage Keys to unlock 10 Mechanical Animals with descriptions, 4 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter and a Built-In Strategy Guide. This doesn't look like a whole lot of CE bling to me???

I saw this game and decided to revisit PuppetShow. I loved all the familiar parts of the game: the steampunk style, a few creepy dolls, etc. But it falls flat for me. The most frustrating thing for me was how easy the gameplay was. There is no thinking involved and the level of challenge is easy on steroids. The cyborg isn't frightening or scary. The characters speak blandly and without urgency, even though they are in life-threatening situations. Game developers need to put as much effort into voiceovers as they do game play.
I miss the dolls with mismatched bodies creeping through every scene and a higher level of challenge. I'm sorry to score lower than everyone else for a beloved series, but it still has a lot of room for improvement. I would recommend my favorites in the series: the very first few when PuppetShow was awesome.
