I stumbled across Amazing Pyramids in 2014 and wasn't expecting anything "Amazing" because the reviews weren't very favorable. To my surprise, it was a really fun game and I bought it before finishing the demo! Here we are nearly 7 years later and the second I saw the title, I knew I was going to like it, but I didn't like it, I LOVED it!

This is kind of like a game of Egyptian Hangman, the pyramid has 6 Words that you have to guess correctly, starting at the bottom with an 8-letter word. There is a panel that shows the category of the word to narrow down the field a bit. You simply click on the letters of the alphabet at the bottom of the board, usually starting with the Vowels. If the chosen letter is in the word, it will fill in all of the spaces that contain that letter. Once the word has been solved, you'll move up the pyramid to a 7-letter, 6-letter, 5-letter, 4-letter, and finally a 3-letter word, but after each word, the category shuffles to give you a new theme of words to apply (some levels have the same theme across the board, most vary each time)

As you progress, new Artifact Tools are added. You can take all the time you want, but you will earn more gold and recharge the Artifacts more quickly when you click on letters quickly, or without making mistakes, you'll even earn more gold when you guess at the correct letters in a row (combos) Each time you guess at a letter, the Energy Meter depletes a tad, but you'll also earn points for any unused energy at the end of the pyramid level and for each unused letter.

The Artifacts recharge when you select letters quickly, select letters correctly in procession (combos) solve words correctly, or don't make any mistakes. The Stone of Afterlife allows you to take a guess at the current word. If you guess the word correctly, a wheel spins to award you with a random amount of points. If your guess is wrong, 300 points are deducted and a new word is generated (you have to start over, but just with that 1 word) The Ray of Gods' Artifact fills in a single letter of your choice. The Justice of Horn Artifact can add all of the vowels to the word (just the current word) and the Truth Sphere Artifact crosses off 5 non-used letters of the alphabet (letters that aren't contained in the current word) I believe there are 2 more artifacts but I haven't unlocked those yet!

There are 36 Achievement Awards to earn and a Hall of Fame board for the top scores, and a Jigsaw Puzzle mini-game. You can disable the character's voices and the sound effects as well. You'll start the game in Adventure Mode and eventually unlock 3 other modes. In the last game, there was a Classic mode which was a mode where you kept playing until you run out of energy, and there was an Advanced mode so I'm guessing that's what's available here as well.

If you like word games, this one is really fun. It seems to have endless categories so it should be interesting for everyone, such as Famous Cities, People in Education, Clothes & Accessories, Drinks & Beverages, Sports, U.S. States, Colors, Job Applications, Housing & Dwellings, Metals, Animals, School, Insects, Family, Top Music Artist & Bands, Castles, Kings, & Queens, Furniture, Famous Brands, Trees, Cooking Tools, Flowers & Shrubs, just to name some from the first few levels! Some of us did have installation problems with this game and I tried everything and I just could not play then the developer was contacted and they have issued a patch and now it is working fine for me.

However you need to completely uninstall the game including from your recycle bin (Thanks Pennmom) before you download the game again.

As for the game, as others have said it is a wonderful word game and gets the old brainbox thinking which is great for all.

I love a good word game.

Always try the demo as peoples opinions are not all the same. Some like one thing , some don't so always demo but take in all the advice from others. Show less

I enjoyed this game very much. It gave you a chance to work your brain in what I call a different twist on the Wheel of Fortune game. I played until the demo was over and purchased the game. I recommend this game.

Boy does it make me scroll through my mental rolodex!

VISIBILITY AND SOUND: I like that everything is easy to see - no wishing for a magnifier - but I do have the sound turned off 'cause I don't need all the cheering and what not.

TUTORIAL: The built-in tutorial is perfect and not at all intrusive. I normally hate forced tutorials, but am enjoying this one, which is short, to the point, and doesn't interfere with game play.

CHARACTER CHOICES: At first I was confused by the availability of only 3 avatars, but then realized that I'm supposedly playing one of the 3 members of the team. Now, that doesn't work too well for the tutorial because my own avatar explains the occasional lesson. But pfft! Don't really care. Doesn't take away from the fun. A name and some info would have been nice, because I don't really know who I am playing, or what he's all about.

GAME MODE CHOICES: In the demo I saw that there are different mode choices available in the full version, but since I only play relaxed for these types of games (as opposed to adventure and HO games), this part of my review is only to let you know it appears that there are some awesome choices.

Been playing casual PC games since the early '80's. Am currently playing BFG retro's and re-playing games I own from 2009 forward if they are still playable. Show less

Just started playing and I'm in love. Something new, which I was so hungry for. I love this game, as they say, it's like hangman.

If you like words, you can't go wrong with this one.

You are given a 'catagory'..it may be animals, flora and fauna, cities etc. And they are just that. It is NOT a crossword so the clue just gives you an 'idea' of what genre, general group type or setting you are guessing at. It's not what the word 'means' It's more like 'hangman' as you fill in ...Show more

It's not what the word 'means' It's more like 'hangman' as you fill in the letters.

There are bonuses that fill in letters, or knock out letters not involved in the answer from your alphabet and a hint button. There is no timer in the first part..but there is a meter that diminishes as you guess and play..but I never got anywhere near the bottom.

Having said that, I am not too far in and have only done the demo so far. There are several adventures to get through so not sure if it gets much harder? As I move along a picture is being uncovered with each level, and there are various achievement trophies for not making mistakes or how quickly you guess a word or how big it is etc.

I will be pleased to have this sitting on my desktop to go to for a 'quite time' game just like solitaire is for me. You have the option of turning off the music and the voices too.

Do try the demo to see if it is for you...but for me it's smooth, fun and generous in its gameplay. Enjoy! Show less

I thought I would try this since the reviews were mostly great and the whole trial went by in no time at all. A buy for me.
It is a very fun game, well put together, and the voices can by muted if you just want to hear the music.

i love this game loved the other amazing pyramid game too glad to see it back with a few new features its addictive its good to see some old favs getting a makeover hope to see some more games getting revamped in the future it would be good to get a second one like this one too its a win from me dont forget try before you buy folks for me i love it and recomend it
