I was a little worried that this sequel would be a let down. Boy was I wrong! This game was actually better than the first. I played on expert and found it challenging but still completely absorbing. (No black bar hints which is perfect.) There are fewer H0's than the previous game which is much better. Puzzles are varied with a few unique logic-based one that were a little easy but fun. There's a really great mix of collectibles some of which aren't on every page. Scattering them around the game instead of putting all of them in every room is a lot more fun. You really have to pay attention.
The art work is just as gorgeous, maybe even a bit better.
There is a choice between H0's or match three which made for a nice change of pace. The last few games by this developer were a bit H0 heavy. Having an option made all the difference.
The bonus game was great. A little trickier, a few better puzzles, a bizarre story. Maybe a few too many H0's but I mostly played the match 3.
All in all, one of the few games that actually inspired me to write a review. There are a few small things which I would have liked - A few more unique puzzles (always want those); collectables & achievements for the bonus game, plus more of the weirder achievements from FC:1 (like turn on the lights), and cats. Needs more cats. Or maybe cat achievements. ;) Show less

The graphics and animation are amazing. I was impressed with "Chinese Healer" and I think the visual quality on this one surpasses even that. And the voiceovers are some of the best I've heard in a HO/Adventure game. I don't think you will be disappointed.
I played the game in "Expert" mode and only needed to use a hint twice -- they really let you work it out for yourself -- but without the cue comments there were two that I really couldn't figure out. Of course, I could have changed my difficulty level at any time if I'd wanted to, and I *might* just play the game again on "Challenging" mode just to see how it differs. I didn't have to skip any of the mini-games #one thing I find very frustrating in a game are mini-games or puzzles that seem impossible to solve#.
And it might be fantastic, but I really enjoyed the storyline. I mean, why play these games except to indulge in a certain amount of fantasy? I thought the story was pretty well plotted and executed, and I loved the gimmick of changing scenes by turning the projectors on and off. Also thought the scientist/cowboy was just charming -- I'd love to see more of him in a sequel!
Oh, and don't miss the interview with the producer in the extras! It's great fun!

The first Final Cut game was a spectacular TRIBUTE to the ART of CINEMATOGRAPHY. Despite graphics that to my eye are not as high quality, this game is NO LESS a work of art. And MORE FUN. There are more exciting things happening and lots of interesting LOCATIONS.
The ARTWORK is still VERY GOOD, but it seems a little less seamless and a little more fuzzy. All of it seems to be in the right time period, and looks very AUTHENTIC. The MUSIC is DRAMATIC and can catch you unawares. It made me jump a couple of times.
This game picks up the STORY a year after the events of the first. Our crazy half-sister, who tried to kill us last time, has ESCAPED from the asylum, and we can only assume we are again in danger. Luckily, Dad’s old friend the General is there to whisk us off to the safety of the nearby ARMY BASE.
But really WEIRD STUFF starts happening even before we’re through the gates, and we crash just outside of them.
The GENERAL is unconscious and we go off looking for help. Soon the HALLUCINATIONS that caused the accident start again. But now we discover their SOURCE. An apparently ordinary FILM PROJECTOR. If you’ve played the other game, you’ll know immediately where this is going. If not, you’ll soon catch up.
I prefer the GAMEPLAY of this one over Final Cut 1. It is EASIER on the old brain cells. HO SCENES are INTERACTIVE LIST, or you can try your hand at MATCH 3 instead. All the objects are CLEAR & LARGE, and the scenes not overly cluttered. The PUZZLES so far I have found REASONABLY EASY, and include ones that I’ve seen before but only in other games by this developer.
The ADVENTURE is logical, but interesting. It is made TRICKY by a wonderful trick I love to see. Remember those HALLUCINATIONS? Well, once we learn how to shut them down, we have 2 VISUAL OPTIONS for each LOCATION. The ability to use items from one to the other greatly increases the complexity (and interest) of the GAMEPLAY.
COLLECTIBLES include MORPHING OBJECTS, film strips, and lucky clovers. There are also ACHIEVEMENTS. Other CE EXTRAS are wallpapers, music, SG, Bonus Game, replayable HOs and puzzles, and a “special bonus chapter”, which is secret.
This is another PREMIUM QUALITY game from this developer. Show less

12 Morphing objects
37 Film Strips
10 Four leaf clovers
4 kites on map
Many achievements, which can access at any time.
HOS are interactive; can switch to match 3 if you'd like.
Excellent game. So much to do, what a refreshing change. Plus you switch between scenes (sets) which gives it more of a challenge. Mini puzzles are just right.
Only Con was if you stall in a scene, a sparkle will flash where you should be doing something. Guess I could always change to Expert.
A definite buy for me! Show less

The storyline is great. A General asks you to come with him, because you are in danger, but then he... I wouldn't want to spoil the surprise. But I like the way the story goes on. There are many unexpected things in it.
The graphics are brilliant. Very detailed, beautiful and with a great atmosphere. The sounds and the msic is right for an adventure trip. So it's great for the game, because it is a great adventure for the payer!
The HOS are easy, but more challenging than in the first Final Cut game. So the devs did a better job and I hope that they keep it on, so we may see difficould HOS soon. Also great is, that you can swich from HO to match-3 mode. The puzzles are good to. Not to difficould, for everyone. You are able to solve all of them.
There are many achievements to earn and you have to find film strips and morphing objects while playing. The film strips are hidden well and the morphing objects are difficould to find.
There are live actors and they are great done. Sometimes you think, that you're watching a movie, because it feels very real. Great Job!
The CE has many extras, so it's worth to buy it.
Afterall this game is really the best in 2013, but I think that may their next game can top it again. Great game and good for everyone to Play. The beginners have the easy mode and the advanced the challenging mode without any hints. So another masterpiece and a perfect sequel.

It has been a year since the death of your father, the famous director and inventor, Morton Wolf, who was killed by your half-sister. We find out that Linda has escaped the mental institution where she has been committed during the past year, and is now a danger to your family. In order to protect you a close friend of your father’s, General Lee Porter, comes to visit and requests the one remaining piece of your fathers’ mind control projector – the iris. Is General Porter the man he seems to be, or is there more to his professed caring and friendship? Now it is up to you to solve the mystery in this intriguing story.
Others have done a great job of listing the game’s technical aspects so I won’t go into those except to note that there are three modes of gameplay – casual, challenging and expert. You have the option to change to a different mode of gameplay during the game by selecting the menu button.
The graphics are crystal clear and excellent. I really liked the music and ambient sounds because they added a lot to the game. The game has voiceovers some of which are excellent and others just so, so.
The interactive hidden object scenes (iHOS) are list type with some items requiring just minor interaction. In some recent games the HOS have become quite interactive and added a lot to the games but the ones in Final Cut Encore seem more like the older style. Even with the clear graphics, I still had a difficult time finding some items in the HOS and had to switch to the match 3 portion just to complete the scene and move forward. The puzzles are ones we have often seen so there is nothing new or too innovative in Final Cut Encore. I always have difficulty with the click a button to turn off or on all the lights type puzzles until I figure out the patterns, and these are not my favorite puzzles as I find them frustrating. That being said, thankfully there is a variety of puzzles in the game and I did enjoy most of them.
There are achievements to be earned one of which is to find 37 film strips hidden throughout the game. As far as the extras go they are fairly standard – strategy guide (SG), wallpapers, artwork, music, replay puzzles and HOS, and the bonus game. What is added is a secret gameplay chapter. When CE’s first came out most of us purchased them simply because the bonus gameplay and for the integrated SG that we didn’t have to purchase and then open outside of the game. In the past couple of years we have come to expect a lot more in the way of extras and if they are not included we say no to the CE. Although the game does seem light on CE content (no morphing objects), I happen to like the SG so for me it is worth the purchase but others may not agree.
Overall the game is very good but I did have a bit of a problem keeping up with the storyline. Once I “caught on” to what was happening I was able to become immersed in the game. Right from the beginning when the front door to the Wolf mansion had a rusted lock, it seemed a bit weird but since I play games for the entertainment value and am not too picky about the details, or whether or not it seems realistic, I just laughed and continued on to enjoy the story and the game. For me the game was an instant purchase since I really wanted to continue playing when the demo ended. As always, I recommend that you try the game first to see if you like it. Show less

What an interesting game! There's a lot of stuff to do.
The story is actually kind of unique, and it does carry over from the previous game. A family friend is after a piece of equipment you have, under the pretense that he's going to hold it for your safety, because someone is potentially after you. Once you leave the mansion, it starts to get weird!

The story is actually kind of unique, and it does carry over from the previous game. A family friend is after a piece of equipment you have, under the pretense that he's going to hold it for your safety, because someone is potentially after you. Once you leave the mansion, it starts to get weird!
Pros:
+ Great graphics. The artwork, thanks to the game's story, gives you many varied locations (mansion, military base, desert scenes) all in one game.
+ Nice music. Voiceovers are good, especially the main character.
+ Three modes of gameplay.
+ You can play a match-3 game instead of doing hidden object scenes. I like that the match-3 is harder than you'd expect, and it has frozen pieces, zapper pieces, exploding pieces, etc. Neat!
+ H0 scenes are good. They're interactive, but the downside is that the interactive parts have little gears over them, so it's not terribly difficult.
+ Achievements! Some are the usual kind, and some are a little bit different.
+ Collectibles (several kinds, according to the achievements) and morphing objects.
+ Jump map. Also, the map is animated (just for fun), and birds fly by, you can look into buildings if you mouse over them, etc. Very cool!
Cons:
- Puzzles could be harder on hard mode.
- High definition graphics mode doesn't work on my computer, despite it exceeding the minimum requirements.
All in all, this is a very nice game. I've been looking forward to it for a while, and although I think the achievements could be more interesting/unique (like in the first game), it's still really fun. Show less
