Every living soul must depart this world to keep balance. Not everyone follows these rules and seek immortality, that is when Death himself must come down, the overseer of the balance for eternity. If balance isn't restored, if those who seek immortality aren't found, a riff will tear open and new lives cannot begin! Seems Death needs a bit of a vacation and entrusts you Detective, once again to find these life seekers and restore order to the very fabric of society, starting with Mr. Gautiers who seems to be a blood thirsty night walker, a vampire who has been leaving a death trail of innocent women. His newest victim is Zoe a young Parisian woman who blindly left a promising career behind and seems to be blinded by her love for him. Can you find absolute proof of Mr. Gautiers guilt before Zoe becomes a victim as well?
I don't understand why this game is receiving such poor reviews, this is a fantastic story! The graphics are dark and almost void of color, but this is how a game centered around Death should be, the entire story would lose credibility if there were an abundance of roses, pastels and glitter, don't ya think! Death has equipped you with his most powerful tools, the most important tool is a Magic Sphere which allows you to quickly transport to anywhere on the globe with a single touch, a necessity when you are tracking down a wicked fast vampire! I will admit that this game went a little overboard with the back and forthing, not only will you find yourself going back and forth between the scenes of your current location, but you will need to use the Magic Sphere to travel back and forth to your home every time you need to replicate a key or develope pictures. Some of the inventory items have a blue aura around them which will indicate items that need to be examined at your residence. There are also inventory items that have a + sign indicating that you need to interact with that item before using such as opening the item or combining that item with another inventory item. You will be given a journal that belongs to Death with some of the pages missing (actually all of the pages are missing at first) and once found will automatically go into your journal. There is a Task icon for objectives, and an icon to access the Collectible figurines showcase, each story has it's own set of morphing figurines representing each character. There are 52 hidden cards to collect and when you find the entire deck, you will have access to a replayable game of solitaire which is only available in the full version which doesn't really matter because you won't be able to find 52 cards in the demo anyway.
The Hidden Object Scenes are all the same from this dev, slightly interactive list finds, some HO's require you to find bat emblems to unlock the list, others may require you to find 12 puzzle fragments at the end and complete a small puzzle of rotating puzzle pieces to open a chest for the final inventory item. I loved the mini games which were at times simple and basic but entertaining such as moving horizontal bars on a lock to allow the vertical pins to move from the bottom to the top, for all three lock pins.
This Collectors Edition has 12 different Achievements, Morphs, Wallpapers, Concept Art, Music, a Secret Room, Solitaire Game, Collectible figurines, playing cards and diary pages, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter, enjoy! Show less

What a unique premise this game has! Your job is to help Death remove those evil souls who have somehow cheated death and are still alive. Otherwise, others cannot be born!
Your first assignment is to travel to Paris, discover which soul needs to die and why.
You have many tools available to you. Death's magic sphere gives you a teleporting map. Death's amulet lets you talk to the dead. You have a cool key-making machine which needs a picture of the key and something to carve. Plus another cool item -- a developing table, that lets you develop photos, develop paper, and reveal writing -- as long as you have developing fluid, that is!
This game is so much fun, as you try to discover who the bad guy is - the one with the red eyes, HA! Then you have to PROVE he's bad. The HOS are lists with twist -- assemble a puzzle, or find items to uncover the list first. The mini-games are easy, but stay within the theme of the game.
There is plenty of CE bling -- the bonus game, collectible cut-outs of main characters, diary pages to find. Plus 52 playing cards to discover that will eventually allow you to play solitaire, a Key Master, and a Secret Room.
There are 3 modes of play, plus the Gamma option that allows you to set the light on your monitor -- something I need as my monitor tends to obscure HOS items in the corners! Great game -- try it and see! Show less

Although I like using the map from time to time, because the makers, at times, make them pretty cool.
No helper, which I know some don't like, I happened to love getting a helper. I really like the one with the little scarecrow!! :)
There is a bit more about it that is awesome, but again, don't want the spoil it. I only played the demo, but looking forward the rest of it!
Good luck and I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I have.

Death has returned from a previous Riddles of Fate game and this time he needs your help detective. I don’t want to say too much and give away the premise of the game but he sets an interesting task before you. Will you be able to meet the challenge?
The graphics from the Elephant team are always excellent and top quality being extremely crisp. In this game, the color palette is intense rather than relying on the muted, misty graphics that some devs use in their fantasy type games. The game has excellent and very realistic lip-synced voiceovers that always add to my enjoyment. In fact, the entire sound package sets the stage and creates just the right atmosphere for this new game in the Riddles of Fate series. The one area where the game falls short is that we are only offered three basic gameplay settings to select from when playing – casual, advanced, and hardcore. I keep hoping that this developer will soon begin to offer a custom mode so that I have option to set my hint and skip times rather than having to “accept” what the developer feels is optimal.
Very early in the game you receive Death’s Sphere that is your most valuable tool for navigating the game, and it isn’t too long before you will also receive your journal. The inventory box has a small “button” for your tasks that you can use that to keep you on track if you need to be reminded of what your objectives might be at any given time. Many of you will be happy to know that you do not have a fur-buddy helper during the game or, if there is one, I haven’t found it yet.
The HOS are very typical of this developer and are mostly the old style list type with very little interaction that quite frankly I appreciate after playing a recent game where every HOS was so interactive that I became frustrated. IMHO, it is very refreshing to return to the standard list type HOP where I am not constantly playing a guessing game of what to use where in order to get through the scene. I like the innovation that some developers use when creating their HOPS but VARIETY is the key. Too much of any one style becomes boring and tedious. The puzzles I have encountered are not too difficult and they flow well with the storyline. Hopefully, I will run into a bit more challenge with subsequent puzzles in the game.
In the CE version of the game we have achievements to earn and collectibles to find as well as the inclusion of the bonus game, wallpapers, strategy guide, music, Secret Room and a game of solitaire. The extras are fairly typical of what this developer includes in their games and on par with what we find in most CE games.
The storyline for Riddles of Fate Memento Mori is very interesting as we set about the challenge of assisting Death with his task. I love the graphics, including the depiction of Death who is rather brooding, and attractive in his great set of armor. As I mentioned above, I enjoy the great old style hidden object scenes that include not too much interaction so for me the game was an instant purchase but, as always, I recommend that you at least try the demo to see if this is a game you will like. Big Fish does it again with a great story about "Death" whose mission is to restore balance and justice on earth and banish his all-time nemesis; Chaos.
I think the best storyline of the game was explored in the bonus chapter where you really find out the origins of Death, aka "Daniel"; and his untimely and unjust murder inadvertaintly caused by the human equivalent of his impulsive BF "Chaos".
The origins of "Death" makes for a wonderful Halloween release by Elephant and a great concept for a new "Death" series with infinite possibilities and potential, particularly given the introduction of the Horseman of the Apocalypse at the end... is Daniel to be the 4th?
Visually RoF is utterly fantastic and the animation is top notch. The sound quality is equally superb with special note to the voice of Death which was very in two words; very sexy and the voiceovers in general which were top notch.
There are also a number of gadgets to play, such as decoding devises, print developers, key makers, as well as a special lens given to you Death which gives you the power to speak with ghosts. These tools allow you to solve various murder mysteries with the aim of catching the culprit who has disturbed the natural order of life. Death, in this context, is given the role of restoring justice by avenging those who were unjustly killed (as we later learn he was in the bonus chapter).
As in all Big Fish games, we have a great blend of game tools, creative HOS, mini-games, boxed items, and morphing objects which are given it's own special category in the bonus chapter of the CE... all which were thoroughly enjoyed. I do wish there was a way to return to game scenes to collect missed cards (I was only missing ONE... COME ON!!!) in order to play the bonus game of solaitaire, a feature which I had seen in other BF games.
A great blend of mystery, paranormal, macabre and superhero genres and wonderful addition to the BF tradition of gaming.

Love the graphics and the voices, which I don't usually listen to as they don't seem to fit the characters in my view.
Story is done well.
The mini games so far are not real hard but do take some thought which I like.
I think the elements of this game have been explained by others so I won't, but I think this is really worth giving it a go.

Death may be big and scary, but he also stinks at his job. There's a delicate balance between life and death, he tells you, and souls must die in order for the new ones to be born. Which, y'know, makes it sort of a big deal when a bunch of wicked souls decided to run from him rather than to go gently into that good night. Death claims he's afraid of accidentally punishing an innocent soul, so he needs your help as an expert detective to trot around the world and root out those who have gone to extremes to literally cheat Death. Not that that's apparently hard to do if running away takes you beyond the reach of his immortal powers. Using his magic ball (stop that snickering), you'll travel to different places around the world, each acting as its own contained story revolving around a different wayward soul. Periodically you'll also need to return to your home to make use of your tools to copy keys, decrypt writing, or develop photographs and so forth, but the bulk of your work is in solve puzzles, hidden-object scenes, and identifying suspects on the ground. The farther you go, the more it becomes apparent someone is actively meddling in Death's business, and yours.
Though it doesn't sport a customiseable difficulty like most casual adventures these days, Riddles of Fate: Memento Mori does just about everything else you'd expect and delivers a rock solid performance in the process. The way the game leaps around the world provides you with not only different settings, but different stories. They're all interconnected, of course, and on the short side, but each location represents a new cast and tale that keeps the game fresh as you play while moving the central plot along. Despite characters looking really, really creepy when their mouths animate to speak, Memento Mori's design is absolutely gorgeous, even down to the ornate User Interface. Though every location is dark, probably because Death's overly elaborate Yoshitaka Amano-esque design would look laughably out of place in a sunny, cheerful park, the attention to detail in every environment and the use of rich colours makes this one easy on the eyes in a big way.
The downside to all this is that Memento Mori just isn't much of a challenge. Splitting the game up into three separate, contained locations means that you're always going back and forth in very small, isolated areas, never really giving you much of a chance to get stuck or the puzzles a chance to get more elaborate. The balance between good old fashioned point-and-click adventuring and hidden-object scenes is very well handled, with the latter having just enough variety in the way they're presented to make them stand out. Despite the promise of world travel, it's still only a game that's probably going to take most players a few hours to complete, which is a shame since its premise is such a darned cool one. Having to return to your home and use your Detective-sy implements to decipher writing or develop photographs is a nice touch, and the supernatural themes means you get your share of magical doo-dads to fiddle with. Take that, Harry Dresden. Riddles of Fate: Memento Mori is still as beautiful and clever as you'd expect an Elephant Games title to be, even if it may not develop enough teeth in the complexity department for some players, and if you want something kitschy and cool rather than creepy to sink down and relax with for an evening, you'll definitely want to try the demo at the very least. Based on Demo- This game is quick moving, has an interactive map, great graphics and a descent storyline. This game is perfect for this time of year. If I had any complaint it's that there aren't any morphs, and there isn't an alt mode for HO's. The games are pretty easy from what I've seen (no easy/hard mode) but they're still fun. I'd suggest playing it on Hardcore, it'll be a challenge!
