Many people believe the legendary Oregon Phoenix is to blame for the recent rash of fires that claimed the life of Dr. Steven Peek, a chemistry professor at the Stone Spire University. The Mystery Trackers have offered their help investigating the strange phenomenon occurring at the Stone Spires Hotel. Dr. Amanda Sate worked with Steven at the University, and her affection for Steven was her inspiration for renovating the main University building into a Hotel, to be closer to Steven. It's Time to get to work detective, sifting through the ashes to uncover solid evidence won't be easy, but chasing a mythical legend will prove to be even more difficult!
The legendary Haunted Hotel series has been evolving lately as well. Haunted Hotel: Phoenix, has given the series a new set of fiery wings, and this edition is definitely proof that it's heading in the right direction! The computer generated graphics are crystal clear, and the characters are real people, features that give the player a sense of actually being part of the game instead of just watching the events take place. Many of the inventory items are complex inventory items which require some type of interaction before using such as combining that item with another inventory item or fixing the item so that it can be used. The Collector's Edition has additional features not available in this Standard Edition, There are 20 Collectible Puzzle Pieces, 12 Legendary Bird Figurines with a small bio and origin, and my all time favorite feature, 21 Morphing Objects
The Hidden Object Scenes are varied with interactive List finds, Silhouetted Shape finds and even a HOP where you click to move some of the objects in the scene to see what item is behind it, and find the object hiding its matching pair. There are also several small HOP's within zoomed in areas that require you to find 3 pieces of tape, 3 chains and various other inventory items, but they're not hidden or difficult to find, in fact, the items are so obvious it makes you wonder why they bothered with this feature. The Mini Games are decent, some of which I haven't seen before, or at least they are a variation of an older puzzle. Many of the games involve swapping wires or resetting wires by moving the jacks and pulling a lever to see which ones are correct. I enjoyed the Mini Game where you have to turn several bumpers to help the tennis player score points by guiding the tennis ball past the player on the right.
The Collector's Edition has 8 Wallpapers, 10 Concept Art Pictures, 17 Achievements, 12 Mythical Bird Figurines, 20 Stained Glass Puzzle Pieces, 21 Morphing Objects, replayable HOP's and Mini Games, a Secret Room, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter. Enjoy! Show less

Graphics were excellent as were the effects and voice overs. I had the music turned down so I can't really comment on it. Everything was clear and the colors very nice.
The hidden objects were varied. There are the lists, sihouettes and other variations. Kept me me interested all the way through. Mini games were numerous and also varied. Not much we haven't seen before, but they were pretty decent. I actually had the patience to play most of them. I did have some difficulty understanding some of them, but that's why they have the skip button. There are several levels of play and you can chose which you like. I picked custom so I could set the skip and hints at a faster rate. The interactive map was helpful. It showed areas where there were things to do and would transport me wherever I wanted to go.
The story was interesting. It had some twists and turns that caught me by surprise, but it was a very decent story. Love is fickle and this showed it.
I don't know if the game was shorter than most or it was just so interesting that time flew. I don't really know how long it took to play, but it seemed like it was over before I expected it to be.
Give the demo a shot. I think you'll like this as much as I did. Show less

Haunted Hotel Phoenix is the seventh game in the series and an excellent mystery. Phoenix takes place in Oregon, USA during 1979 an area that has been ravaged by recent wildfires. The authorities are not sure if the fires are the work of an arsonist or are perhaps caused by the legendary Phoenix of Oregon since witnesses report seeing bird shapes flying in the fires. In a crossover nod to another series from this developer, you are a detective working with the renowned Mystery Trackers organization and have been called in to investigate the fires in Oregon. You arrive at the Stone Spires hotel and that is where your adventure begins.
The game offers four modes of gameplay: Casual, Advanced, Hardcore and Custom. If you select the custom mode you can click various settings on or off depending on how you like to play. Most important for me is the setting for hint and skip times. In this case the time range for both settings is between 15 and 90 seconds. Another option this developer includes in its games is the option to either continue or reset the game when starting to play after exiting a previous gameplay session. Many times if I think I have missed something early in the game I will select the reset option so that I don’t have to change my profile name and then fiddle with all the game settings. I wish more devs would offer this time-saving option in their games. The graphics are very good and appear nice and crisp on my laptop. The sound package is wonderful with music that seems a bit loud even when turned very low. The game has wonderful voiceovers that add a lot to the game. I rather like this modern new look for the Haunted Hotel series.
Your tools include a journal and an interactive transporter type map that are present at the beginning of the game. You will find other maps as needed as you progress through the game but those are only for specific purposes.
The HOPs include the standard list (my personal favorite), uncover matching pairs, finding a specific number of a certain item in some areas, and silhouette. Some of the HOS require a bit of interaction but not all of them and that is okay with me since I become very tired of HOPS require so much interaction that they become tedious. I like what first drew me to the genre and, fortunately, this series still offers me the basics. On the other hand, I love puzzles and, sadly, I didn’t seem to find many of them in the demo but I hope they will show up later in the full game.
Overall, I loved this game. The game has a great storyline that sucked me in and held my interest. The pace seemed good and didn’t drag on too long before capturing my interest. When I finished the demo, I couldn’t wait to hit the buy button because I know this is a game I will love. What a great new spin on the Haunted Hotel series and if future games are this good, I say keep them coming. We all have different tastes in games and although this is a game I really love, you might not agree. Please try the demo and see if Haunted Hotel Phoenix is a game that you will enjoy. Show less

I love a game that doesn't need to be a CE to be great. The finish is a wee bit corny but, somehow, this didn't bother me at all. In fact, it fit perfectly, the more I think about it.
Haunted Hotel: Phoenix takes some big shifts but, mostly you're always moving forward without too much back and forth. The puzzles are a great mix of ones we've seen and some new ingenious and fun ones. Challenge levels varied but all were enjoyable. There are not very many HOG's, but the ones there are are good, and challenging enough to be satisfying.
But in Haunted Hotel: Phoenix, it's the story, the unfolding mystery and our part in it, that all make this game great.
My congrats and thanks to the creators of this game. I highly recommend Haunted Hotel: Phoenix to anyone wanting to enjoy a good mystery. Show less

This one is really good! The twists and turns taken to find clues, and the surprise and cleverly adapted tools you'll use to do so, make this game far from the usual dull formula some HOGs use. Love the graphics and even the storyline, which I don't usually think much about, is pretty good. Happy investigating!

I liked the spaciousness and grottiness of the mostly ruined, old university, because the details and graphics were so nicely done. Infact the graphics were excellent! The backdrop happens to be mountains. Nice.
There were very few HOPS, very few puzzles and the game is mainly adventure – a very intriguing one- and of course there are lots of items to find in the environment. The puzzles that were present were a mixed bag and the HOPS were fun to do, nice to look at and straight-forward word-lists, with one or two items requiring extra work.
I can't remember seeing anything scary, there was just great atmosphere created by good timing, good cut-scenes, excellent graphics and environmental sound effects. Show less

The famous Haunted Hotel franchise is back with a brand-new, thrilling installment! During the past several years, Northern Oregon has constantly been plagued with wildfires/ Are these the work of the legendary Phoenix or the product of an arsonist? Project Eternity is back with a new villain - Duke Callahan. Now it's up to you with the occasional assistance of fellow Detective James to help save Steven the scientist. Only Steven knows the chemistry secrets to the newest Project Eternity (immortality) but you'll have to defeat Duke Callahan, a hypnotist, and a slew of puzzles and unique hidden objects scenarios. It's a fast paced thriller with a great story, and delivers over 4 hours of gameplay with Bonus Chapter. Bonus Chapter is not relative to the main game but is a fun addition. I recommend Haunted Hotel Eternity CE too since we first learn of Project Eternity in that adventure. Casual gamers of all levels are sure to enjoy this edition. Thanks Big Fish! Show less
