Freddie Toppan and his wife revamped what was once a nursery, into the Lexington Hotel. Well, that's always a bad idea, and sure enough, Freddie was brutally murdered after his wife died mysteriously, and the Hotel was shut down and abandoned. Well, not entirely abandoned, because there are things that go bump in the night, a creepy little girl who doesn't seem to know she's dead, and then there's the Nanny. Naturally your sister Samantha, couldn't resist filming a documentary about the ghosts that haunt the Hotel, but these aren't your average ghosts, these ghosts are angry , and deadly. Now little sister is missing, and you must enter the Hotel of Horrors and save sis before she becomes a permanent resident of the Lexington Hotel!
I love the creepy vibe the graphics instill upon you, every scene has something going on in the background, hands that burst through glass, ghosts that shouldn't be in reflections, and spiders that spew out of crevices, not to mention all the moaning, groaning, creaking and pleas for help, it's really cool. Somehow you find Samantha's camera before you enter the Haunted Hotel, even though camera footage clearly shows the camera being dropped by Samantha in the upstairs hallway. Anyway, as you find cassettes throughout the Hotel, you place them in the camera, press play, to watch the footage, and press the print button to receive a photo that will be used in the same area to find clues or instructions when matched with the correct scene. There are also several Achievements to earn, 34 Collectible Flower Petals, 21 Morphing Objects and several Morphing Orphan Photographs.
The Hidden Object Scenes are mostly Silhouetted Shape finds, but some are interactive list finds and even scenes that task you with uncovering 6 identical items. There are also several Zoom Zone's with small HOP's where you find fragments or multiples of the same item.
The Mini Games are around every nook and cranny, the only complaint I have is that they are all super simple and can be done within seconds. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you will come across during the game:
1) Set 3 different knobs to the correct positions using diagrams.
2) Push down all buttons in the correct order by trial and error.
3) Paint a canvas using a color coded symbol method.
4) Swap puzzle pieces to create an image.
5) Lift four levers to the upright position, some levers affect others.
6) Enter the code shown in diagram.
7) Recreate an image from torn photo pieces.
8) Place all weights onto the scales so that they are all even.
This Collector's Edition has 10 Wallpapers, 10 Concept Art pictures, 4 Music Soundtracks, Achievements, Morphing Orphan Photographs, 24 Collectible Flower Petals, 21 Morphing Objects, 12 replayable Mini Games, 15 replayable HOP's, a Secret Room, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter, enjoy! If you're wanting an ADULT adventure game with Adult graphics and storyline.. with no pink hues nor cartoon child-like graphics.... this could well be the game for you. With this game comes a good dose of mild nerve-jangling atmosphere, the ambient and environment sounds are excellent and there is just enough of each not to be overpowering or for the dark atmosphere to lessen and lose impetus or tension build-up; the balance is well thought out. All sounds from music to voice are adjustable in the main options menu so turn up the volume and have some fun! As previously stated, there isn't any child-like graphics; this is an Adult game that's been beautifully engineered, developers have put a lot of work into getting it right and although NO GAME can appeal to everyone, its good to see that much thought has gone into making this a game you WANT to know what happens next - it is a sweet n spooky - maybe to some 'mildly-horror' - game. It's a refreshing change to settle down to an adventure game that does keep you interested and focused, it keeps the gamer playing never letting them go for a minute, in some places its 'edge of the seat' happenings, or something inside them screams or trembles oh, Oh, OH.....I can't leave the game - I need to just finish.....etc., etc., etc.' - its a game that DOES hold itself well, its very well put together and to the Devs I say, well done guys n girls!
How good is the game? With much comparing recently between the old and the new style in the MCF Ravenhearst release, you either love the new style or hate it...At the time of this review, on average the Haunted Hotel CE's carry a 3.8 - 4.1 average rating, MCF Return to Ravenhearst achieves a 4.3 rating, which is in sharp contrast to MCF Key to Ravenhearst which only has a 3.7 rating. All of which speaks for itself.
For a good solid adventure game that holds adult graphics and theme throughout, has a compendium of puzzles and although they won't tax the mind, they do allow the gamer to do the necessary before moving on without any lag in the game, however, if you choose the hardest setting, you might be in for a surprise regarding puzzle-difficulty, lol.....the game is easy to navigate around, clear concise instructions, HOG scenes are easy, bright and well lit (no dark dank junkyard miniature items to find), its a well laid out interesting adventure and one that is a worthy winner for my money! Haunted Hotel The X is the eighth game in the series and a truly creepy mystery. Your sister, Samantha, has apparently gone missing after letting you know that she is on assignment writing a story about a local haunted hotel. Terrific brother that you are, you set off to investigate what has happened to sis. Once you arrive at the old hotel, you begin to realize that things are not what they seem and that Samantha has apparently become mired in a whole lot of ectoplasm.
The game offers four modes of gameplay: Casual, Advanced, Hardcore and Custom. If you select the custom mode you can click various settings on or off depending on how you like to play. Most important for me is the setting for hint and skip times. In this case the time range for both settings is between 15 and 90 seconds. Another option this developer includes in its games is the option to either continue or reset the game when starting to play after exiting a previous gameplay session. The graphics are excellent with some awesome special effects that enhance the ghostly creepiness of the storyline. The sound package is wonderful including the lip-synced voiceovers.
Your tools include a journal and an interactive transporter type map that are present at the beginning of the game. You have a video camera where you can view footage after you find a cassette. I don’t want to explain the significance of the camera because if you play the demo you will discover how to use it. As they say, discovery is half the fun.
The first HOP is a silhouette type, followed by the standard list type. I didn’t find any HOPS that were the strictly interactive type although some did require minor interaction to find items. The puzzles seem typical with the first one being a very simple dial puzzle and the next a slider type. I am sure the puzzles will increase in difficulty as the game moves forward.
The extras in the CE release of the game include collectibles, morphing objects, and achievements. The other extras include wallpapers, concept art, music, replay of mini-games and HOPS, the secret room, bonus gameplay, and the strategy guide.
Overall, I loved this game. Foremost, the game had a storyline that sucked me in and held my interest. The pace was excellent and the game didn’t seem to drag along without capturing my interest. I love a good ghost story and with Haunted Hotel the X we certainly have one. When I finished the demo, I couldn’t wait to hit the buy button because I know this is a game I will love. It looks like the devs have gone back to the roots of the first Haunted Hotel games and come up with a wonderful ghostly mystery. If the game has any shortcoming it is that the puzzles are just not as challenging as I would like. That being said, we all have different tastes in games and the puzzles might not be your thing. Even though I loved the game you might not agree. Please try the demo and see if Haunted Hotel The X is a game that you will enjoy. Show less

Return to 1979 to a haunted house in search of your sister, Samantha. An angry presence has kidnapped your sister and is now targeting you. Being guided by the ghost of a little girl, search for your sister while uncovering the sinister history of this hotel and the murder of its owner. I LOVE this game. The graphics are eerily dark and create a nice little spook fest. There are more puzzles than HOP scenes. Most of the puzzles in the demo are easy; however, there is a balance/weights puzzle toward the end of the demo which is slightly difficult. The puzzles in the demo include several matching puzzles, a sliding tiles puzzle, sequencing puzzles, a jigsaw puzzle, a balance/weights puzzle, and a paint-by-number puzzle.
The HOP scenes are varied as well. The ones in the demo include a silhouette, several mini-HOP scenes with small amounts of items to locate, and lists of items to locate. There is one multi-step scene which results in a sliding tiles puzzle after locating all the items in the scene. There is NOT an alternative game to play in lieu of the HOP scenes.

Hints and Skips 15 to 90 seconds

I love this game. It actually tries to scare us and the creepy factor is high. Many games now are trying to cater to a more gentile clientele; even the new Ravenhearst game was decidedly more colorful and far less creepy than past editions. I love a good scare and this game delivers. Not all of us want fantasy type games. A nice creaky hotel and a vengeful ghost is just what I needed.
Bravo!

HOGs were mainly list type with a silhouette thrown in for good measure - lol. Not tremendously interactive and no alternate game. Mini Games were quite fun.
Interactive map and a camera that plays back cassettes for you.
CE Bling will consist of the usual fare plus:
* 21 Morphing Objects
* 20 Puzzle Pieces
* Rose Petals (found 1 by accident and didn't find any more)
This is a great standalone game (don't have to own/played the previous 9 games), great for beginners through experts, great storyline that flowed very well. Perfect if it would have come out for Halloween instead of Thanksgiving. Just sayin'.
I own the previous 9 games in this series and will definitely be adding the CE of this one. IMHO, it is definitely CE-worthy.
Join me in finding out about the Legend of the Lexington Hotel.

In this game Elephant has gotten it just right-at least for me.
The flow of the story is very logical and the HOS and mini-games fit perfectly in that logical flow.
The HOS & mini-games, while not overly easy, are for me very doable, without having to resort to using the hint, skip or strategy guide.
For me this made this a very enjoyable game, worth the purchase.
