This game is soooo good. It is another game from ERS in a large series (I have them all) but I think it is the best. Drawn beautifully, sound is great, story line is gripping. It flows and makes sense, so you know what to do next. HOP's are interesting and some different than I have seen before, all are fun. This is a dark, bloody HOA with all the bells and whistles: interactive map, gorgeous graphics, and interactive HOS. I thought the game didn't live up to the Editors recommendation - that was, until I hit the garden labyrinth.

Honestly, Monster in Disguise is worth it just for this puzzle. I didn't even make it through before my hour sample ran out. The puzzle is huge, with a mapped labyrinth you negotiate in the mist, trying to locate objects to get you through the rest of the maze.

I'd happily buy a game that's based on this concept alone. Kudos to the designers - have they come up with a new kind of puzzler?

I'll definitely be purchasing this game, thanks to this maze and the need to collect coins throughout. I always enjoy looking for money in a game - it's like finding a ten-dollar bill in the pocket of your jeans after you do the laundry. Show less

This edition surpassed my expectations of the popular series. In Grim Facade: Monster in Disguise you play the role of a detective trying to find and stop a serial killer named Bloody Stanley. The game feels and plays like most ERS HOPAs, except this one features a much more pressing atmosphere with excellent graphics and sound/SFX. Your job is to investigate scene after scene and gather enough clues to lead you to the next area, where more PUZZLES await you. This edition of Grim Façade will be remembered for it's extraordinary puzzles. It’s important that you pay attention to every little detail too, but don’t expect too much complexion either. As such, there are a couple of areas you can interact with in every scene, and each one of these areas holds at least one valuable item. You get to choose questions to ask characters in the story. The whole thing is pretty linear, especially since there’s only one way to solve each puzzle you come across. Speaking of which, the actual puzzles are in fact mini-games you have to tackle every now and again. Even if they look differently and feature different components, the core concept of the puzzles is more or less the same, since you have to either find patterns or rearrange various jigsaws. There’s some variety later on, and the difficulty level is moderate, even for inexperienced players. I think that was a smart move on behalf of the developers.
When you learn from the inspector that they fear they have the wrong suspect in custody you really begin to feel immeresed into the story. I think the device you discover which allows you to find memory fragments once you find all of them results in a cut-scene that shows you secrets of past events relevant to the murder mystery. It adds to the overall experience of the adventure. Fans of the genre and Series will be able to truly experience the story and the location thanks to the gorgeous hand-drawn graphics. The artwork is very nice and detailed, which makes every scene look like it holds some kind of terrible secret. Moreover, the sound effects go perfectly on top of all this, not to mention the voice acting and the soundtrack. I have always been a fan of the series and Grim Facade: Monster in Disguise is a pretty strong adventure game, at least for the casual crowds out there. Hence, if you enjoy finding items and combining them to solve puzzles, this is certainly a good choice in the genre.
Players of all levels can enjoy this one, except children. The game warns you in the beginning that it contains GRAPHIC CONTENT and I loved every moment of it!!!
 

Up front runner for game of the year award. This game did things with a twist. First I thought oh another annoying Ghost finder. But it paid off for how it played out when using the device. The coin purse was very well done and loved it. The cat was something else. I like how that played out. I was SO absorbed into the game I forgot to look. Front page was slightly interactive and the music on that page held promise of excitement. Loved it. So fairly well done front page. Just like all Grim Façade games, it was great...loved the effects and the storyline. Was scary at times and couldn't wait to see how it ended. Big Fish Games always pulls through. Thanks for the great games!! :)

This game kept my interest all the way through. I had to stop and cook before I played the bonus chapter because I had not realized I didn't move while playing this game. The story-line, the graphics, mini puzzles, music momentum, and hidden object were superb. I had to buy the CE because I felt like I did not want the game to end. The Grim Facade games all seem to have that extra something that 'makes' a game.
This particular game i found had a rather disjointed and confusing story line. I'm still not entirely sure who it was that dun-it, or why. But that didnt make the game any less enjoyable, which is a rare quality.

The only thing i did not like about this game - which seems to be the norm for this dev, is that if you miss a collectible you cant go back to find it once the game has ended.
Certainly one of the better games i've played this year.

OVERVIEW: Is Bloody Stanley, a serial killer, still on the loose? Supposedly he has been captured; however, could the wrong man be sitting in prison awaiting execution? Play a detective called in to investigate the savage murders in this blood drenched superb 5-star game. I LOVE this game! The story is compelling. The graphics are beautiful and gruesome at the same time. The demo is very short; however, it whet my appetite to purchase this game immediately. As is common for this developer’s games, you collect coins to purchase inventory items and pay the carriage driver to drive you to different parts of the city. You also collect another set of coins to purchase skulls and swords which are in a trophy room. This game is classic ERS, crafting a wonderful, magical game! And, of course, Death, the scrappy cat, returns to make his presence known as well.

HOP SCENES: There are only three in the demo. One of the scenes is a list of items. The other HOP scenes are multiple-step ones which have silhouette items followed by another list of items to locate. They are few but very well-done.

MINI-GAMES: There are four puzzles in the demo. One is consistent throughout the game in which you collect memories with a gizmo called a “memory collector.” The other three include an assembly puzzle which gives you the ability to choose between Casual and Hard settings. As I have stated many times, I wish more developers gave us this option. The other two puzzles are maze puzzles.

AFTER THE DEMO: AN EXCITING NEW PUZZLE! There is an exciting new variation of a maze puzzle! I have not seen this puzzle before in a HOP game and it is unique and well-done. This maze puzzle is time consuming but enjoyable and requires a little strategy! I thought the HOP scenes I played after the demo are well crafted as well.

i loved every aspect of the game - clear objectives, different kinds of HOs and fun puzzles where you can choose between casual and hard mode, which i haven't seen in puzzles before - i always look forward to the puzzles in HOPAs and i loved them in this game, i found them challenging, but totally doable - also the HO scenes were varied, not only lists - both minigames and HOs can be replayed after the game

the difficulty of the game was just right for me

i rate myself as intermediate even though i've played HOPAs for years, but i always play in casual mode

i will play this game again and highly recommend it to all skill levels Show less

Your first day on the job could turn out to be a brutal one – at least this is what it seems like. In this newest game in the Grim Façade series you are the new detective in town and have been tasked with investigating the latest murder in a recent string of killings perpetrated supposedly by someone dubbed as Bloody Stanley. A local man has been convicted of the murders but he’s on death row awaiting execution and the police captain is beginning to wonder if they have the wrong man in custody. Jump into this new Grim Façade to find the killer and help save an innocent man from meeting an untimely end.

Everything about this five-star game is top quality from the graphics to the sound package. One thing I like is that in the custom level the hint and skip buttons work independently.

As with the other Grim Façade games you will find coins to be used to purchase needed items from the local street vendor. Dare I even mention the word pet helper? Even though he isn’t the traditional pet helper, that scraggly cat with attitude – Death – is back and, in this case, he is a welcome addition to the game.

From what I see in the demo the HOPS are excellent, varied, and interactive. IMHO, these are some of the best HOPS from this developer who seems to have recaptured some of the creativity that once had it as the leader in casual games. The enjoyed the first HOP that is interactive and quite a bit of fun. The mini-games are excellent and some of them required a bit of thought to solve. My favorite is the very first mini that involves placing varied shaped tokens into a panel according to shape. It is not difficult but it is tricky as you can easily get stuck. All in all I am impressed by both the HOPS and the mini-games.

The CE version of the game contains the following:
Find Collectible coins scattered randomly in various scenes. These are not the same as the coins we use to purchase items from the merchant or for travel.
Achievements for those who love earning them.

I LOVE this game and purchased it almost immediately. The storyline is interesting and before the demo ended I had seen enough to know that this is one of the best in the Grim Façade series. Even though I am not a “cat person” there is something about the scraggy and beat-up feline that I think a great addition to the game. Even though I love this game, please try the demo to see if it is a game you will enjoy. Show less
