This is a fantastic fantasy themed game that gets better with every chapter. I have purchased so many games that are really fun in the demo, but become stagnant the further you progress. Nothing about this game became tedious, not even the mini games associated with the Magical Ring, which often are boring with little challenge, I really looked forward to each new chapter.
An adorable Golden Retriever puppy has just adopted you at the Lost Hope animal shelter. (If you've ever been to an animal shelter you know they choose you, not vise versa lol) This adoption was meant to be, this is your destiny, and his! Turns out, Ice is no ordinary companion, Ice is from another world and he has been sent to find a human worthy of the Ring of Destiny. The Ring of Destiny is capable of moving mountains or changing history, the ring will transfer you to the world in need of help, which just so happens to be Agora. The Chief Wizard of Agora will be your mentor, and will prepare you to fulfil your destiny to face the Shadow people who have nefarious plans to destroy the world.
The Ring will need to be recharged after each use, in a Match 3 type game where you click and drag as many identical symbols possible until they have all been matched. Eventually your ring will have many capabilities (flight, sight etc.) , but for now, the ring can only ward off the evil Shadows. In the Collector's Edition, each scene has 2 opaque Hidden Dragon, as indicated by an icon tab on the left of the screen, some of which present a nice challenge to find! The CE also has several Achievements to earn, and both versions offer plus sign inventory items that require some type of interaction before using them such as a small puzzle.
The Hidden Object Puzzles are just so-so, in the beginning, but become increasingly more interesting as you progress. There are HOP's where you find key words during a story, Interactive list finds, Fragment fins, Silhouetted Shape finds or following a recipe in the correct order. My favorite one was on the deck of a pirate ship inside the mouth of a giant whale!
The Mini Games are actually creative, some super easy, some frustrating, but interesting enough to look forward to the next. The following are brief descriptions of some of the Mini Games you'll encounter during the demo, and a few of my favorites after:
1) Lead Ice to the shoreline avoiding monster arms, when the number on the spaces change to the number 1, the monster arm will appear there on the next move.
2) Restore the image by selecting different pearls to swap puzzle sections.
3) Using the clues, select runes in the correct order, followed by a Match 3 game.
4) Several puzzles where you must trace shapes without going outside the lines.
5) Help Ice find the correct path by selection matching prints in variations.
6) Destroy all of the shadows by moving the wizard to spaces adjacent to them, the shadows will multiply in areas further from the wizard.
7) Select the objects in the scene as shown on the scrolls to talk to the dragon.
8) Connect a continuous line of numbers in ascending order, the numbers are not continuous however, the number may start at 15 and the next highest may be 62 etc.
9) Arrange masks on a grid using one empty space to slide masks until each mask is on it's matching square.
10) Move the green star to the red star by choosing numbered buttons only once. The star will move to the nearest star with that number.
The Collector's Edition has 4 Music Soundtracks, 7 Wallpapers, 4 Screensavers, 6 Concept Art pictures, 12 replayable HO's, 16 replayable Mini Games, 11 Movies, 15 Achievements, 46 Hidden Dragons, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Adventure, enjoy! Show less

I love the Living Legends series and Immortal Love, and now these developers take the genre to a whole different level. Edge of Reality: Ring of Destiny is a hidden object adventure game in which you play the role of an ordinary woman who gets herself into an extraordinary situation. The gameplay mechanics are pretty much the same as in every other game in the genre, but the adventure is engaging enough to keep you distracted from this fact. Not only that, but some of the puzzles can put you to the test if you are not familiar with the usual tricks. As for the story, it all starts when the main character decides to adopt a dog and is about to take it home in her car. However, the dog (whose name is Ice) starts acting all anxious when they reach a nearby swamp, which is when she decides to let it lead her to the place in question. As it turns out, she finds a powerful ring in the water and she is transported to a different dimension once she puts it on. I was totally captivated with the story by this point which is early in the adventure. Most fantasy stories contain some kind of powerful item that can decide the fate of the entire world, given the fact that the faction with control over it is guaranteed to win the war. There’s always some kind of adventure surrounding the artifact in question, which happens to be the case with the game at hand as well, although it’s a bit more complicated than that. As always, most of your time is spent trying to figure out what items can be picked up and how can you combine them in order to unlock the way to the next area. It actually gets pretty intense after a while, and the objects you have to find are never the same. I thought the puzzles were pretty exciting, although most of them are just asking you to unlock some kind of mechanism or find a specific pattern. Things are quite decent in the graphics department, and there are even some 3D objects part of certain scenes, such as the dog in the beginning. The level of design is very engaging as well, and you can tell that a lot of work went into every scene to make them as detailed as possible. There’s even exceptional voice acting and a nice soundtrack to keep you company along the way. It's a fantastic trip to a different dimension worthy of Editor's Choice Award. Ring of Destiny may not impress players with it's puzzle quality or exciting new gameplay mechanics, but the journey and the story is definitely worth the bother, especially if you are a fan of the genre. In addition, the game world looks gorgeous, and it’s a pleasure to explore it... Show less

Excellent graphics, good story line, and the ever helpful hint button ... what more can an old woman want? I love this game - it is above average adventure and who ever wrote it has amazing imagination.

This game has an involving story that kind of falls apart at the end (like a lot of these games do), but I liked that it had a shorter playing time and the puzzles weren't too challenging.
It was like getting to be a part of a movie, and it's exactly what I wanted.

Overall: Intro was good. Really liked the dog but he’s trapped in a crystal ball and is rescued near end game. After several journeys the ring learns a number of abilities. The flying one was annoying with flapping wings, but short lived so can be overlooked. Disappointed again to see another game with so many mini games vs. hidden object games. Hints are quick to return and the storyline is enjoyable with diverse locations and tasks. Well done game with interesting characters, a couple dragons and of course a villain. Would have liked more interaction with characters along the way. Nice ending with a simple closure.
Graphics: Exceptional well-developed scenes, clean and worth taking a second look. You travel to a number of different and some even unexpected locations which keeps up the anticipation...where next! Characters are diverse and attractive, that is if a gnome can be attractive, but he was rather cute and really didn't get equal play time. With such great characters it was too bad that they were backups vs. frontrunners in this game.
Sounds: Great.
Music: Can be repetitious at times but most often blends in well with objectives.
Hints: Great. Returns are quick so no sitting around impatiently. Skip is pretty fast too because I usually give mini games a try and by the time I get frustrated the skip is ready to go!
Map: Good.

Hidden Object Games: Excellent spiced up with variety and a few surprises. Objects are clear, easy to see but still a challenge with some little twists on a few scenes, a nice change from all the same.
Mini Games: Way too many of them! Minis ranged from easy to difficult with some issues along the way. A little perfecting would have gone a long ways. Some were confusing but on the most part they were well done. Crosshairs were difficult to line up and a bit annoying, but I have to give the developers kudos for coming up with so many and some different ones. Of course there were the usual ones as well and all should appeal to mini fans. Show less

The game is good for people who like brain teasers. The puzzles look deceptively easy or straightforward, but end up being hard to solve. A few is OK, but almost a third of puzzles are harder than usual, which ruins it for me. Some of the puzzles lack a Reset button, which is helpful if the puzzle is challenging. However, hardcore mode allows for Hint, skip, and even helpful messages.
Other than these 2 quibbles, the story is good and the game is quite long. Voiceovers are very good and match the visual appearance of the characters. Actions to progress are intuitive and make sense (with the helpful messages). Show less

Good adventure with a lot of mini-puzzles and very few hidden objects (which do repeat a couple of screens with different items to find). Some of the puzzles are hard. You have a dog to assist you but he doesn't stay around very long in the beginning.

OVERVIEW
Edge of Reality: Ring of Destiny is proof that one can’t always judge a game by its demo. I wasn’t overwhelmed by the CE version, finding the puzzles relatively easy. However, I picked up the SE as part of a sale, and I’m glad I did, as the puzzles got progressively more difficult.
DETAILS
Storyline (8/10★)
When you adopted Ice, a gorgeous, cream-colored Golden Retriever, you had no idea he was a messenger from the fantastic world of Agora. But Ice specifically chose you to wear the Ring of Destiny, an artifact with several magical powers. Because Agora is in serious trouble.
Glivera, an evil queen imprisoned in the Labyrinth, has gathered shadow creatures about her. Even now, they are on the verge of breaking free and crushing Agora under eternal darkness. Aeron the Wizard barely has time to teach you to use the Ring before you’re off on your quest.
Adventure (4/5★)
Travel around the beautiful land of Agora in search of traditional and magical items to aid you in your quest. Help the denizens of Agora, including a dragon, and they’ll help you in return. Mix up potions and repair devices. And use the powers of the Ring (which I won’t reveal, because that would spoil things).
Hidden Object Scenes (3/5★)
HO scenes included interactive lists, find the highlighted words in the narrative, silhouettes, FROGs, and more. Some areas were visited twice. Quite a few were creative in their presentation, and some of the objects were difficult to find.
Puzzles (4/5★)
I won’t bother describing the puzzles in the demo, or the repeating ones involving the Ring. Further on, they get tougher, so over the course of the game, there’s a good range of challenge from beginner to expert. Some of my favorites included:
• STAR CHART - A field of numbered stars has marked start and end points. There are buttons numbered 1-6; each may be pressed once. Chart a path through the starfield by pressing the buttons. Pressing a button will move you to the nearest star that matches that number.
• COMPLEX LOCK - A key must move through a grid to its goal. You are given four path patterns to use and reuse. Make sure the key doesn’t leave the grid.
• ALL BUT ONE - Tokens with several symbols move along a path. The goal is to remove all but one. A token can be removed if those on either side of it match.
• MATCHING ORBITS - A sun has planets circling it on three orbits. Each planet is marked with 1-3 stars. Below is a star chart. Select and rotate each orbit until the planets line up correctly with the star chart.
• BOSS LEVEL - Assemble a circle from eight colored runes following the given rules of logic, which specify that certain runes either must be or cannot be between two others.
• MAILBOX MAZE - Move the token to the goal, lowering barriers by landing on spots of the same color. Requires strategy to avoid dead ends. Three levels.
• RAYS OF LIGHT - Guide the light rays from the center to the four pictures by placing barriers on the grid to reflect them. The rays advance automatically one square after each move, so plan ahead.
Game Design (4/5★)
Excellent interface with a nice, big inventory. The map was well-designed and indicated active areas if you so chose. I would have liked a touch less hand-holding when it came to charging and using the ring, though.
Logic (5/5★)
Nothing bizarre.
Graphics (5/5★)
Stunning panoramas are the hallmark of this game, and the palette subtly shifts from warm, welcoming tones in Agora to icy, arctic shades in the mountains, then to an eldritch mix of discordant colors in the Labyrinth. There’s no mistaking this for Earth; the fantastic elements are beautifully rendered. Characters are drawn well, and animation is smooth.
Sound (4/5★)
I did find the music a bit repetitive at times, but not quite enough to annoy me. A few more tracks would have been welcome, but what I heard was enjoyable and varied. Voiceovers were professional, and environmental sounds were excellent.
CONCLUSION
Rating = 37/45★ = 4.1★ (rounded to ★★★★)
I recommend this one for its engaging storyline, variety of gameplay which includes quite challenging puzzles, and pure eye and ear candy. Other games by this dev that I’ve enjoyed include:
Bridge to Another World: Alice in Shadowland CE (2016) ★★★★
Living Legends: Frozen Beauty CE (2013) ★★★★
Living Legends: Beasts of Bremen CE (2017) ★★★★
