The year is 1324 in Venice and Marco Polo is dying. With his last breath he gives his greatest treasure and gift to his friend Peter Tayal. Fast forward to current times agent, where you must rush to Fiji to help one of the agency’s long-term partners Waradi Tayal whose prized possession the Pearl of Marco Polo has been stolen. HELP has tasked you with returning the pearl to Mr. Tayal. At least early in the game it looks like Sam is MIA so you are on your own to solve this one. When you arrive at the Tayal Pearl Farm you find Mr. Tayal a bit distressed to say the least but I always wonder if the characters who are so fond of giving orders have ever heard of the word PLEASE! At any rate you set off on the mission to retrieve the pearl and you may definitely be in over your head on this one.
The graphics and other technical attributes are exactly what I have come to expect from the excellent EPIX team. I particularly like their Custom Mode that offers more opportunity to set up a game the way I like to play. During your adventure you will have your standard HELP kit to assist you. There is an interactive map that you will find early in the game and to access it you can either open the box or click on the map tab on the outside of the HELP kit. I always have enjoyed the Hidden Expedition games and like reviewing the Fact Cards as they are found because they contain so many interesting tidbits of information.
The HOP scenes are well crafted and I enjoyed playing through most of those in the demo. If you do not want to complete the HOPS you do have the option to play an alternate Match-3 type game. As usual there is variety in the types of HOPS so there is something for everyone. Where the game becomes terrific is with the puzzles. The electric grid puzzle early in the game is one that I found quite challenging. The early phases of the super puzzle are easy to solve but the main grid puzzle is tricky and takes some thought to figure it out correctly. Of course if you have the full game version, there is always the strategy guide to help. As much fun as the super puzzle was, I wasn’t thrilled by the next major puzzle that involved jumping out of a plane.
The CE version of the game includes collectibles, morphing objects, HELP Fact Cards, and achievements. The other extras include replay of mini-games and HOP scenes, a Souvenir Room, Concept Artwork, Wallpapers, Music, Strategy Guide and the Bonus Game.
I wasn’t swept away by the previous Hidden Expedition game but this one seems much better and is definitely more interesting and yes, exciting. The series is still one of my favorites because I enjoy the Fact Cards and the generally well put together storylines. Even though I love the Hidden Expedition series, I suggest that you try the demo to see if Pearl of Discord is a game you will enjoy. Show less

Somehow I’m still exhausted from this chase around the globe. But extremely satisfied and happy and full, like after an exclusive dinner with several courses, all of them cooked and presented to a very high standard. Graphics could have been a tad more detailed.
After the appetisers, the intro scene and the „sounds on“ screen, you get to the main menu and are already gaming, as well as when the game is loading. Great idea!
And what a fine dinner, ehm, game! Starters are served on Fiji, the story unfolds, picks up speed, you are in the middle of the soup, I mean the action.
Fight a ninja, drop into the sea, do a parachute jump, dangle from a rope, ride a speed boat, find clues and useful things on a plane and play with a tarsier, get out of prison, blow glass, dance with a stranger and finally resolve the case.
Gameplay was absolutely top! The HO’s and „mini-HO’s“ came with great variety, some items were pretty tricky to find. Another twist on game play: you find the motifs list for one HO before you actually start it.
The puzzles were a lot of fun, some of them were new to me, as the one at the end of the main game where you have to place marbles next to polygons.
The Bonus Chapter was excellent, a sequel to the main game, but from the perspective of another character you’ve met before.
Be on your toes if you are after all achievements! Apart from the usual ones, there are some very unusual ones. Touch everything, play with everything in front of you, enjoy all interaction.
I was relieved to see Venice safe again, but sad the game was over. Luckily I didn’t get all achievements in the first play through, a good reason to start the game over! Show less

I only played the demo and my adrenalin is still soaring! The story begins with Marco Polo handing a priceless pearl over to a comrade for safe keeping, in his last moments from his death bed. Keep it out of the hands of the greedy, evil Zambetti family!! No, we do not like them but this would be a pretty dull adventure without them in the picture.

Keep it out of the hands of the greedy, evil Zambetti family!! No, we do not like them but this would be a pretty dull adventure without them in the picture.
Honestly, this was the most exciting game I've ever played. The escapades had me so edgy, just rapid fire, one thing after another. And that's just the demo! A thrill a minute and if the entire game is like this, it looks like we're in for a long, wild ride. The ninjas will see to a big part of that, I'm sure. Right from the start, we battle ninjas, zoom off to Japan, parachute into criminal territory. The non-stop challenges were amazing!
I loved the music. The graphics were stellar, the scenery was gorgeous, the storyline was outstanding. The characters were super fine and the voices were superb. There was such detail involved in everything.
The assortment of HOGs and puzzles were very satisfying in every way for me, being complex, challenging, interesting. I skipped one thinking it would take too much of what time I had remaining of the demo. I really liked the narrative HOG and the others were quite interactive.
There was a good map, but can't address the collectibles because I was far too busy to pay attention to the extras.
Thank goodness Waradi Tayal called H.E.L.P. in on this case. Otherwise, I would have missed out on an abundance of breathtaking action. Just stand aside when I make a mad dash for the Buy Button! I absolutely love the H.E.L.P Expedition games. I'm anxious to see how this all plays out! In my opinion, very deserving of 5 stars.

The visuals and music are superb and moves with the amazing storyline, while it crescendos with perfect timing. The challenges were enough to keep me nervous about my time, but not enough to frustrate me. This is a 'great' game and I can't wait to see how it ends. Thanks, Mia! :) Show less

The main reasons I enjoyed this game was the creative license that ended with a good story. The other reason I enjoyed was it was a game of well intrigue and vengeance that seem present in human nature.
I liked the game because it was not centered around some weird monster type creature but the warped personality was a human character.
Good work folks!

I really love playing the role of a H.E.L.P. agent and this edition is one of Eipix's best! This time agent your investigation is the ultimate quest to save Venice from being destroyed by a plot to flood the entire city. It all began Back in 1324 in Venice when Marco Polo entrusted his friend, Peter Tayal, with a special pearl just before he passed away. The pearl has since been securely kept with the Tayal family until today when the pearl was stolen! As a H.E.L.P. agent, travel to Fiji where the pearl was kept and hunt down this invaluable gift from the greedy Zambetti family! The Pearl of Discord delivers one of the most intriguing storylines in the franchise’s recent history. Not only is the long-term rivalry between Marco Polo and the Zambetti family fascinating, but the action-packed events also keep us on the edge of our seats. Despite starting the game in Fiji, The Pearl of Discord actually takes you around the world; from Japan to Venice. The environment is constantly changing, keeping the game fresh from beginning to end. The visuals in Hidden Expedition: The Pearl of Discord are Eipix’s best works in quite some time. The intricate artwork is mesmerizing, while the quality of the graphics is second to none. In addition, Eipix also delivers stunning animations and cut-scenes this time around. There were moments in the game when I just stopped to appreciated the beauty of this game. Compared to the exciting storyline and the amazing production, the gameplay is slightly disappointing. The Pearl of Discord is basically a cookie-cutter of most Eipix games; predictable development and somewhat easy tasks. This doesn't take away from the fact that the game is incredibly entertaining, and the solid puzzles as well as the creative hidden object scenes definitely add some value to the game. I didn't regret a single minute during the five hours of Hidden Expedition: The Pearl of Discord (it took me that long just to complete the main game) and I also enjoyed the bonus chapter just as much. The bonus content that comes with the Collector’s Edition is pretty awesome; a strategy guide, wallpapers, soundtracks, concept art, re-playable hidden object scenes, re-playable puzzles, a souvenir room, achievements, collectibles, and morphing objects. I can't believe this is the 14th game; all of which I have played in this series. Does it seem like I am an avid fan? (LOL) I truly am and I will continue to play an investigator in Hidden Expedition League of Protectors (H.E.L.P) for as long as developers continue this long running series. Cheers!
Check out each title in Eipix's ongoing popular series and play all of them!

Pros: the usual excellent graphics, nearly a travelogue game as these are prone to be. Driving music added to the urgency. Competent to good voice acting, (well, there was the guy from Fiji who sounded like he was straight from Mumbai), a good mix of puzzles, some of which were actually challenging.
Cons: ending a bit abrupt but consistent with the plot. Ah, the plot - high-tech artifact makes its way into a pearl and is stolen by ninjas at the behest of a mysterious Italian lady working on a seven-century vendetta based on a waterlogged house that Marco Polo sank to save the city. It was just goofy enough to be fun, but seriously?
Well, never mind. No one expects War And Peace, and it gave us a chance to rappel in Tokyo and ride a really cool jet seaplane to Venice. I'll take it! Show less
