The story of the Countess and the shade thing is finally something worth developing in a sequel . She can't beat Charles Dalimar, but has potential.
But please bring back real actors and video footage, these gave the old MCFs that eerie feel of twisted reality.

Hmm, a lengthy 5 Chapter game +demo within a few hours is pretty impressive! I must admit that Eipix has done a wonderful job with the Morphing Objects and Collectible Mirror Shards. The Morphs changed at a slower pace, and for once they didn't choose an obvious item to Morph. Most of the time I know which item will morph the second I enter a new scene because they always chose an object that looks out of place in the scene. Even the Mirror Shards were somewhat challenging because they located them in unusual areas of the scene. I liked the graphics much better this time because they made them a tad bit darker and slightly more detailed.
The Hidden Object Scenes we rather unimpressive and far and few between. They clearly poured all their effort into making this a puzzle adventure rather than a Hidden Object adventure, adding just enough scenes to qualify it as a HOPA. Most of the scenes are Interactive List finds or Keywords in Sentence finds but there are also Multiple finds and Silhouetted Shape finds. I found the scenes to be lacking clarity, therefore, some of the items were hard to find because you just couldn't make out what an object you were looking at actually was!
I hope you like Mini-Games because there are a ton of them and they are back to back most of the time. Although I found the instructions to be confusing at times, the puzzles themselves aren't that complicated. The Super Puzzles once again make an appearance as they always do in this infamous MCF series. If you're new to this series, Super Puzzles are multi-layered puzzles, but in my opinion, these weren't as interesting because they were just made up of several mini-games, not the usual Rube Goldberg style puzzles that this series is known for. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter before and after the demo:
1-Swap pie-shaped sections to create a path for the sword.
2-Select & rotate the correct key that matches each shape.
3-Select & drag tiles vertically or horizontally to match the central piece.
4-Drag left & right ribbons to match center symbols when combined.
5-Press directional arrows to move a beam of light through a maze.
6-Super Puzzle #1: Press books to receive the first clue.
7-Super Puzzle #2: Drag tiles until their symbols match the pattern.
8-Super Puzzle #3: Place the heart between the two lovers.
9-Super Puzzle #4: Rotate tiles to create a path.
10-Super Puzzle #5: Press directional arrows to cover entire grid with ink.
11-Super Puzzle #6: Rotate overlapping circular discs to create an image.
12-Super Puzzle #7: Drag books over numbered tokens to deduct numbers to 0.
13-Rotate dials to correctly point to the direction of the symbol.
14-Rotate petals to complete flower images.
15-Swap cubes to match the flowers in the correct order.
16-Click the moving figurine to guide it to the mirror.
17-Direct the beam of light to the end by adjusting mirrors.
18-Drag a line to flip all tokens to the Black Countess in 2 moves.
19-Push side tabs to match the numbers revealed on the book.
20-Drag a line to connect identical gems passing through all holes.
21-Place dominoes correctly according to the equations.
22-Choose 4 symbols that create the symbol shown when combined.
This Collector's Edition version has 8 Wallpapers, Concept Art pictures, 6 Movie Video Cutscenes, 7 Music Soundtracks, 12 Achievements to earn, 18 re-playable Hidden Object Scenes, 24 re-playable Mini-Games, 37 Morphing Objects, 37 Collectible Mirror Shards, 4 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter and a built-in Strategy Guide, enjoy, just don't look in the mirror!

As as much as I wanted to prolong playing this game, I soon reached a moment where I couldn’t stop.
I had to be torn away from the computer to do at least some of the minor Real Life matters as cooking a meal. Tradition on MCF release days: Broccoli. Ok, this is a review site, but the recipe for „The Countess“ was stunning and I enjoyed this feast of a game tremendously.
I loved loved loved the details, as the gull flying off when the stone head falls off Codington Bridge, the, sorry, SPOILER!!! pig head morph in the Mansion Yard, the preinstalled 999 code on the padlock, the steaming sock in a HOs, tributes to former MCF games.
Creepy story fine, with a humorous approach even better. Whether intended or not. The sentence „This record is scratched“ sent me to the floor. Those who are familiar with Monty Python know why.
Gameplay is top notch, I appreciate the clear indication if you have found morphs and collectibles in a scene.
The Bonus Chapter was carefully composed. The main game ends satisfactorily, the story of the BC complements it.
For me the rhythm of the game was perfect, adventure, HO’s and the brilliant super puzzles. All accentuated by the music, a subtle variation of MCF tunes. I’m listening to the sound track right now.
The game made me forget everything around me, took me back to former stages in my life when I played the piano the way you had to do in one of the mini-games, sent cold shivers down my spine, made made me feel sad and made me laugh.
Everything cooked to the point, well seasoned, no wish left opened.

I have to say I'm quite impressed with EIPIX. I saw the ratings on the whole and I think part of the problem is that this game is very heavily laden with puzzles and, at first, I wasn't going to give this game a five-star rating due to that fact but I think these devs deserve it for their cleverness. I mean many of the puzzles, to me, were very challenging and tedious. A few were easy but nonetheless fun to do and that's what I like about this game. I'm playing the CE version and am more than half-way into the game, but I had to stop and report my views on this matter before I lost my train of thought, which happens more often these days. LOL!
EIPIX devs' graphics are always top-notch. The music was fine; the storyline is great; the voiceovers are wonderful. The special effects are spot-on as usual. Good map and hint button.
The Countess, in her natural form, is quite beautiful but not a pretty sight to behold in her evil form! Ugh! No wonder the mirrors are cracking!!! Spooky! Spooky!
I kinda' liked one of the notes that I collected along the way as follows:
"I have no creativity left to offer, yet the mirror is calling for me again. I feel its hunger wrapping around my flesh, taking my form, while slowly pulling me to the other side. Will it keep its promise of reuniting me with my family?" Signed -- Gloria
Well, Gloria, we shall soon find out! I like this game a lot and there were a few puzzles within a puzzle that I enjoyed very much and actually got them all. Great job, devs. Very innovative.
My only complaint is that some of the mini-games throughout had no instructions so you're left on your own, which is fine, and obviously there is no hand-holding in those cases, but you do have a hint button which I refrained from using. For me, I had to stop and think, take a break to make a cup of my Espresso coffee, and come back to the game. I think the caffeine helped! And as far as I could tell you couldn't skip those puzzles. These types need patience which sometimes I lack but I stuck it out. So this is indeed a thought-provoking game! Yes, I'm impressed!
I definitely recommend this game. Bravo, devs! Show less

I actually had stopped buying MCF titles when the stories about the Dalimars got weirder and weirder, as well as sillier and sillier. I hope that the Countess is the beginning of a new story-line, since it also features a creepy house with lots of puzzles, and a villainess that could easily be back.
There are tons of puzzles in this game. None of them are as tough as the original MCF's, but they are not as blatantly stock as many games.
The one small problem I had with the game was that hidden object scenes were not as inventive as they are in many games today. However, I don't play "hidden object games" for the hidden object scenes. I play them for the story-line and puzzles. The story-line was was at least internally consistent and not as gross as some of the MCF's have been, and the puzzles were quite good.
And one of the best features was that you could go back and find any of the collectibles or morphs after the game and bonus chapter were done. If you just want to play through the story without worrying about collectibles or morphs, you can wait until you are completely done, then do them as an "endgame" activity. I've played a few games that are doing this recently, and I give this feature a big thumbs up!
Overall, I hope there are more MCF's in the future that are like this game. Show less

The demo was very entertaining. It was full of very creative puzzles, the HOPs were great. I enjoyed them all and found them delightfully challenging. The graphics were stellar and sported rich, natural colors. None of the purple, blue or pink palette that irritates me to pieces. The characters were done very well and the voices were excellent.
Getting into the house was a bit tricky, I had trouble getting out of the entry hall. Right away there was someone in need of rescue, who had been in hiding. But alas! I was of no help at all. The evil force of the house just swooped in and began its dirty work! The storyline interests me a great deal because it is a supernatural mystery. And I am counting on MCF to provide us with a quality game.
I had lots of fun in the demo. By the way, the game ran so smoothly. No black screen between scenes, there was instant response to everything, and no stalling or freezing. I didn't check the extras beforehand, but I did find morphs, lots of pieces of broken mirror, earned a few achievements. And the pop-outs were so quick I hardly had time to read them. The game had all the usual MCF helpful amenities as well.
I think this game will be very satisfying and I feel confident in giving it a five-star rating. I am a big fan of MCF, own them all. Give it a try, even if you may not share my enthusiastic opinion, I hope you have at least a little fun,

I usually anticipate a new MCF every year at this time and 2018 is no exception. This review is based on the demo portion only.
The master detective ( that's the player ) is summoned to Codington Mansion, a place seemingly abandoned for 200 years yet there are some very weird goings-on occurring there.
Getting into Codington requires some effort and first we encounter a young lady whose task is to completely renovate the manor yet her crew has been befalled by something sinister and she has been in hiding until rescued by the detective. Alas not for long as she is swept away in a black fog.
The detective then must find ways to enter various rooms within the mansion and does so via HO segments, puzzles and gathering items that are always prevalent in these types of games. This is not a game for beginners as most of what needs to be accomplish to make progress requires lots of thought. There is no hand holding within the puzzles and this is a good thing for those of us who relish the difficulty. The Countess is a game where the hint button might be used often.
As is always the case with MCF entries the drawings and graphics are spot on terrific. Being in a creepy old mansion in this game is reminiscent to me of the Ravenhearst saga. Instead of the Dalimars confounding us here we have a demented old lady Codington.
The game includes both collectible items and morphs. Speaking only for myself when I become so engrossed with the game I tend to forget about the collections. The forgetting is certainly the case in the Countess.
The MCF games created by Eipix last year were good but nothing special. My feeling after the demo is this MCF is a cut above and should be a very worthy addition to the series.
So enjoy the holiday week, eat lots of turkey, watch football and dive into the Countess. Show less

This time, while investigating the disappearance of your friend Lady Eleanor Codington, you visit her abandoned mansion to discover that it is plagued by an evil entity known as The Black Countess. To resolve the mystery of the Codington curse, you will need to delve deep into the family's history and resolve numerous puzzling challenges. There are plenty of dark twists along the way as the sinister story unfolds.
The Countess is one of the most entertaining games I’ve played in a while. The game has its share of hidden object screens, but it’s loaded with a wide variety of puzzles, including the Rube Goldberg “super puzzles” that the MCF games are famous for. The mini-games range in difficulty from fairly simple to challenging, but they are all very entertaining. The Collector’s Edition also offers morphing objects and collectable items in the form of 37 fractured mirror shards. The game is reminiscent of classic MCF games like The 13th Skull and Dire Grove. The graphics are crisp and detailed and really work well with the moody soundtrack to establish an eerie setting.
If you enjoy solving puzzles like I do, I guarantee you will love this game. I’m hoping this marks a new trend in HOPA games to include more puzzles. Show less
